I have been an American Express Blue customer since 2000. I have excellent credit and always pay my bill on time. I recently made the mistake of signing up for an Amex gold card through Delta. I was making a trip for a family emergency that turned into a medical emergency and Delta was horrible. When I returned I was still dealing with the emergency, and I noticed an email from American Express. The email stated that they were transferring a portion of my credit limit from my Blue card to the new card...no discussion, no approval, and no prior information given when I was signing up. As I still did not have the card I decided to wait to contact. Weeks went by, and still no card. Thoroughly disgusted with Delta, I decided to cancel the card. I got stuck in phone automation hell with no opportunity to speak to a person. I finally was able to cancel the card. A few days later I called back to be sure my credit limit was restored. I was transferred to 4 separate people that were supposedly part of the "team" that would fix this. Getting nowhere I finally asked for a supervisor and was transferred to Emily. Emily stated that it was all my fault and the credit limit would not be restored because I cancelled the gold card. No effort, no respect for a 25yr faithful customer, no concern for the fact that American Express created this situation without my permission- just no. I have other cards and again I have outstanding credit. What a vile way to do business and horrible customer service. We have numerous bills associated with this card that will now be paid elsewhere. We paid our bill every month and never had issue. I doubt American Express will take any of my complaints seriously after the behavior I experienced with their incompetent customer service department. I would say if you don't need the card get rid of it before they screw you over to!
Recommendation: Stay away from this company, zero customer service, zero respect for customers!
