I was living in a 3-bedroom home when I became disabled and had to move into an assisted living facility. I contacted ADT to cancel my service, explaining my situation. They told me I was only 2 years into a 5-year contract and that I owed $1,942. I explained I couldn’t afford that and asked why I should pay for a service I could no longer use. They showed no empathy or flexibility.
I removed my credit card from their online system, thinking that would prevent further charges. But last week, my disability check of $2,350 was deposited—and the very next day, ADT withdrew $1,942, causing my rent check to bounce.
I called my bank to dispute the charge. They said they’d send me forms, but it would take 10 days. I don’t have 10 days—I’m being evicted. I now have to move into a homeless shelter that offers no support for disabled individuals.
ADT’s actions have left me devastated. They ignored my disability, refused to work with me, and took money I needed to survive. I’m sharing this so others know what kind of company they’re dealing with.
