WestJet Airlines review: Rewards program

I have been a WestJet card holder for years. Of recent I have been trying to use a companion voucher that expires soon. I have tried at least 30 options to use it and each each time it gives me a higher fare than if I don’t use it. One flight with the same exact flights cost me 1.00 more. Other flights it’s hundreds more as the flights that were 325 say without clicking the voucher when I clicked the use voucher the same exact flight changed to 525. These weren’t partner flights but all WestJet only flights. Also I booked a WestJet flight and used some of my points. It wouldn’t let me use all my points. I understand this is tax portion. I know WestJet has reconfigured their flight fees to prevent using points and saving on companion but this is getting ridiculous. Then a companion fare trying over 20 variations is costing more than not using it then it needs to be investigated. I am going to reach out to W5 as well as something is rotting with WestJet. If they are going to offer and charge credit card users for this program then it should be of benefit not cost you more. It seems like a scam to me and they are getting away with tricking consumers. Also when I use points to book a flight and I cancel is it acceptable to say that they can take 45 days to put it back? I honestly don’t trust that they will and that by then most people will have forgot and not notice getting them back. They should be required to return my fairly earned points back quicker than this. It feels more like a punishment than a reasonable policy. I would like to use my points to book another flight but I can’t so now I have to wait 45 days and book that same flight at a much much higher fare. This is not a good program anymore and is even bordering if not a total scam.
