University of Phoenix [UOPX] lies, deceit and fraud

In 2004 I was called by a UoP counselor. I knew I wanted to continue my education but didn't think I could manage it or afford it. I was told I wouldn't have to worry because I could get a grant. I agreed to take a single class to see if I could manage. 3 weeks later my son beca, e ill and I withdrew. Again, I was told I wouldn't have to pay anything.

4.5 years later I get a bad account by California Student Aid/EdFund/CSA/ACS/College Loan reported on my credit report dropping my score 80 points. After 9 months now of investigating, I discovered that UoP obtained a loan in my name. They signed me up for some Criminal Justice Program without my knowledge, claimed I earned 3 credits and a C in the class I didn't attend as I was in the hospital with my son and moving from the apartment that we were ankle deep in raw sewage with.

I filed a complaint with the Department of Education. I found the list from the UoP showing that I did NOT complete the documents for the student loan. Forms they claim I "electronically signed" were placed in their system in 2005 (1 year after I withdrew). On these forms they stated I was a medical collections agent, I was not. They placed an address on the forms that I did not live in until after I withdrew, yet they claim I "electronically" signed these forms a month earlier. Why is it that some forms I was able to sign but the money forms I supposedly "electronically signed"?

Now I am being forced to pay this loan plus the interest, even though I didn't sign up for this, nor knew about it until nearly 5 years later. Otherwise I can't obtain the mortgage for my house that I have already paid the non-refundable 5% down on.

This school needs to face justice, be closed down and the people running it need to be held accountable fully. Why isn't anybody doing anything about this company?!? How many more complaints and similar stories, law suits and disputes does it take to make a company be held accountable for their very unethical business practices?!?

If there are any answers, please let me know. I have all of my documents prepared and ready. I want to fight this company to the fullest.

That is HoRRIbLE! I really believe the fradulent acts are tied between the school and reps who process our loans from the actual loan companies. The government and loan companies should require actual signatures to process somethng of this extinct. This is a very valuable financial reponsibility, to leave in the hands of such businesses, who are out to cash in. I can't understand how banks submit 10, 000.00 to an online school, and I can't get a loan for a home deposit and new business. Are they working together?

I never attended this school but, I attended one similar. Colorado Technical University is pretty much the same way as uop from what I have read. They are all scammers out to get your money. If I could give a piece of advice to anyone planning on going to school it would be to attend a community college or state school as they are much cheaper and credible. It sounds to me like you need a lawyer on this one, it's fraudulent to sign a loan for someone else and there has to be some way you can sue them or get them investigated.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] university of phoenix complainers

I feel like with all the complaining going on most of you people are just whinners. As I am reading your compalints I notice that some of your complaints are pathetic. UoP was went over most of these things with me and I still decided to attend. The one person who hasn't received a dime to buy drugs and now has to use their daughters child support. Well UoP did let you know that finicial aid takes anywhere form 45 to 90 days. I did the calulations, you are no where near it. You just started school. Also the people requesting transcript (pay for them) if you want to get out an agreement that you as an adult sign up for. Just pay for the damn transcript. I have not read one legitamate complaint on this website it's ridiculious.

I was looking into uop...not any more. The kind of things Ive heard about this school are ridiculous. Besides the degree being pretty much worthless from what I can tell, it's outrageously expensive. Plus once you consider the fact that no other schools will accept their credits, Its an easy decision to not go there. Plus, If I wanted to teach myself, Id just go down to the public library. All in all, it sounds like a crazy scam. Oh, btw, any of you people that are students and defending the place are probably just in denial because you have already forked out thousands of dollars. You people are the sheep that uop loves. The ones complaining, joining lawsuits, etc, are people sticking up for them selves. There is nothing wrong with that. From what I can tell, even a community college associates degree will get you farther in life than a masters from uop. At 1/1000 the cost at that lol

The organization is crooked; that is all there is to it. If a student goes through their process, without any hiccups and graduates, all is well in the world. The school gets their money and the student gets a piece of paper that hopefully will be helpful in gaining a better life for themselves.
However, if the student has a problem that takes them outside of the normal track, the unethical and possibly illegal practices of the school come blazing forth. The school MUST (can't verify this but it sure seems that it may be the truth) strongly coach their financial advisors to push the students through the loan application process. You appoligists, did you fill out your own paperwork? Most people I have talked to were urged to allow the FA to do it so it would "go quicker." Why do this? So the student will give the school permission to handle the money for the student instead of the student being issued a check.
Once the loan is approved, the school will book as many future classes into their financial system and dedicate those funds to the classes. If a problem occurs, like an illness, the school sends all the money back to the government because they don't want to mess with their source of money, then they turn their attention to the sick student to get that money back.
For those of you who were "challenged" by the classes at UoP, you probably would have been challenged anywhere. I can tell you that my MBA is a $40K piece of paper. I didn't learn anything in the classes. The econ, finance, accounting, etc. were not even refreshers of what I had in my undergrad classes. The marketing and other management classes didn't even use the books we were forced to buy from the school store.
Run screaming while you can and find a place that doesn't make you feel like you need a shower every time you talk to them.

I've attended UoP for my bachelors, and decided to stay for my masters in Developmental Psychology. I really don't think I could have made a better choice, to be honest. It seems as if most people that complain about them really just couldn't stick it out. All it takes is patience, and...you know...a little intelligence. They have always been helpful and all of my advisors have been unbelievably quick at getting back to me about any complaint I may have.

I have had a few courses where the professor wasn't up to par with what I expected, but I'm sure that happens at virtually every school. And only once did I receive my financial aid funds a little later than I expected, but I eventually expected that too happen, and actually more often than it did.

I also have a couple of friends and relatives that attend, and they have the same experience I've had. There are always little issues that happen along the line, but it's part of life. They've not ruined my finances, or anything. If anything, they assisted me in finding MORE options in funding my education, and in the three years I've been attending, have only had to take out one student loan at the very beginning.

I'm convinced most of the people that complain hold grudges, rather like a five-year-old would against another child that has a toy they want. Really, suck it up and stop trying to bring people down with you!

Nov 19, 2010. I have been attending UOP since last April and my only problem with them is the recent changes in the pell dispursement. I have been given the run around on a weekly basis and it is very frustrating. I have not failed any classes or even came close to it and still try to work hard. I actually enjoyed the school and even recommended it until now. It has been well over 3 months and still not one person has given any real answers to what is going on. I am not here to "whine", I would just like the truth. I have only read negative things and cannot get any answers from the school. I have called Dep of Ed and the implied their part is done, as far as the grant money, and it is all on the school now. I would just like some answers please.

I wonder if the few who are on here defending UoP work for the same group that runs the call centers that claim to be a University? I have read and heard far more negativity than positivity since I began having my problems with them.

@ jason1984, yes I failed a couple of classes your right, my fault. And yes I live off of my loans because my job doesn't pay me [censor], but I have a job and have had one since I was 15. @JEE86, you didn't work your [censor] off for your degree. You posted a few BS answers to even more BS questions on a discussion forum. and @M.King, your right UoP went over most of it, not all of it, and then skirted the truth on others.

My problem with UoP is the lies they told before my first block started. My enrollment counselor told me that Harvard uses UoP for its continuing education classes and that the credits I obtained their would be transferrable to any University within the same regional accredidation, these are both egregious lies. I also asked about the amount of time I was expected to be in class, as I was weighing my options between the local community college and UoP, and was told maybe three hours a day twice a week. Well anyone who has attended knows this is not the case. You are required to be there two days for attendance, however the "facilitators" require participation 4 days a week. My grade is a direct result of their system not working properly, my "facilitator" not responding to questions, not being clear about expectations, and numerous other things. Getting no credit for answers that did not meet word counts by 2-3 words instead of reduced credit. Its BS, completely up to the facilitator how to grade, no structure, no rhyme or reason to anything. I hope all universities like this get shut down

You obviously have absolutely no idea what your talking about if you think the University of Phoenix gets the Financial Aid money within the first week of school. The funny thing here is, all the people that get on these websites and complain about UOP or any other business for that matter, generally screwed it up themselves. I bet you if we looked your records, we would see a lot of failed classes, drops, and missed attendance. The Finance Counselor goes over all of this with each student before they start class, yet you idiots decide to be lazy or just plain stupid and fail anyways. How about saving the money you receive from your Excess Funds and investing it? Or maybe putting it in a savings? Those are much better ideas then living off of it because your do damn lazy or student to get a job. If you go to class and passes those classes like your supposed then most people graduate. But its the complete ignorant [censor]s who feel the world is out to get them.

First, you must be a UOP student due in part to your atrocious spelling, which is even more ridiculous due in part to this box providing you with a spell check of sorts. And financial aid does not take your claim of 45 to 90 days to process. It disbursed the school after you complete one week of classes. You really didn't think they'd let you go through a full "block" of courses without having received money to protect themselves now do you? They just hold on to it in the event you fail to complete this "block" of courses. If you don't, they send it back to the lender and then bill you, simple as that.

I'm a graduate of University of Phoenix. This school was very helpful for me. The education was well paid for. I don't understand why people have such negative comments about this place! They are nationally accredited, and fully accredited by a Postsecondary Education Commission in the state where I reside. So, employers recognize it where I live. However, not all states recognize University of Phoenix transcripts/credits. All people should research products/services before they agree to them, even if it is education. Not all online schools are accredited in certain regions and states- it is up to the student to research that or ask questions. I do believe the government website has University of Phoenix down as have 38 states that they were individually accredited in, as well as being recognized by the NCAHLC and the US Department of Education. I'm tired of hearing people say UOP is a diploma mill! I worked my ### off for my degree!

Dear M.King:

Your response is poorly written. You managed to have "butchered" the English language to the point in which your argument does not have any credibility.

You obviously have been duped which demonstrates your lack of intelligence allowing yourself to become prey to an predator online education institution.

I hope you do learn something from the organization. At that time, you may become enlightened allowing you to come to a rationale and informed conclusion about the purpose of the University of Phoenix.

If you want the truth, read my post.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] Unethical and misleading practices

I just read your complaint about the University of Phoenix and their misleading practices forcing students to go through a reentry process.

I too worked with my academic counselor and they even made sure that the courses I needed to complete my degree would be transferable into the program. She was aware that I had lost my job and needed to pay out of pocket so I would need to transfer less expenses community college classes into the program. I only had two more classes to go and I had a year to complete the last two classes. When I called her about my last course she checked to see if it would transfer but later that week told me to call some other person. She did not tell what this person's role was so this was curious to me. She was the third or so individual I had as a advisor so I wasn't sure if this was another turn over moment. UoP has high staff turnover.

This person turned out to be a re-entry counselor. I told her that I didn't understand why I needed to speak with her since I had been transferring my course work in and had never heard about needing to re-enter the program. At no time was I notified that I was in violation of some sort of policy. She told me that I would have to go through a student appeal. She also said that it was unlikely that I would win the appeal she said."...no one does."

I was very dismayed with the news yet hopeful because I had been attending classes and active in my education. The only set back was when I was diagnosed with a serious illness that required me to take a break. Despite this optimism, three to four weeks later I was told that my appeal was denied. She called me back and nothing came in writing to me about this denial. I don't even know who the appeal committee members are or the appeal committee make-up.

Now at this point, I have to take 8 classes instead of the one final class and it creates problems for me with securing further employment opportunities in a highly competitive job market in Michigan.

If there are any others who have had similar issues I welcome to hear your stories whether or not they were resolved or not.

Thanks Kindly,

Me too! I am going through that exact same thing. I am taking my final 2 classes, which are first year general ed, and the semester ends Dec 16, 2010. My deadline date for my UOP degree program is Nov 20, 2010 so they will not give me my degree. I have to take 3 more classes, they will not accept them transferred in from a major university program, and quoted me a price of $8, 000 for 3 classes! I went through a lenghty and painful appeal process which lasted over a month and then was denied. During the 2 1/2 years leading up to this I was in constant contact with my academic counselor, who never, at any time, mentioned the deadline date. I am accusing them of intentionally letting me fall outside of the deadline to get another $8, 000 from me. Their academic counselors are sales people, they continuously called me to enroll, but never gave me a single bit of academic advisement or guidance. I am mad.

UOP is a scam. They are refusing me my BS degree saying that my "program" has expired and entering into the new "program" would require me to RETAKE around 27 credits. I am already $50k in debt from UOP and am 2 credits shy of my BS. TWO ELECTIVE CREDITS!

I graduated with a BS/IT in 2001 before all the hype and bad press University of Phoenix was generating. At the time I had all ready 5 years experience in my field which was Information Technology with a focus in web application development and project management.

Up until recently, my experience spoke for itself. I acquired work without problems, no one gave a second look at my degree because of the amount of experience I have. Now, I’ve been solidly denied work due to the fact I have my degree from UOP despite my solid experience. This is unbelievable. People are actually telling me I have solid PM experience but they require a “solid degree” to take me seriously. IN fact I’m having conversations with people who tell me not display it at all, like I don’t even have a degree.

In this job market with over 15 years experience, to be denied work because of the degree I thought was obtained from an accredited school because the school itself is being irresponsible by creating such a bad reputation I can’t get a job anymore. UOP is now causing a backlash and now I have a worthless degree.

With Intel, Cisco and many other companies that won’t touch me because of the degree, this means UOP shouldn’t be offering degrees that mean nothing in the field the degree is meant for. They’re taking money for a document that is worthless even for a person like myself with years of experience. I can’t imagine what it is like for newly graduated people.
If you’re attending QUIT NOW. That is the only advise. It doesn’t matter if the work is hard or it’s accredited. I have recommendations from people who worked along side John Chambers from Cisco and that still didn’t matter. The companies want to be able to tell their clients or customers what school their project managers went to without cringing.

You will find it hard to find a job with a degree from UOP > That’s the only GUARANTEE you’ll get.
So where do you go? UMASSONLINE, Penn State, and there are online classes you could attend to get your general ed with West Valley College in CA and others. THey are real schools. These options were not there for me in 2001. I’m glad they are now.

The truth about UOP: http://myphoenixmistake.webs.com/

STOP GOING TO UOP NOW!

this is extremely alarming to read the other complaints. I stopped school back in 2007 short 6 credits (2 courses) of my degree. both courses were basic math, so i intended to take them at another, cheaper school. long story short, i put it off (until now), and was just told i have take a total of 14 addtional classes if i want to receive my degree. i basically have to retake 12 of the 20 core classes because they have been "updated". im in the process of writing an appeal, but am not sure what to say. im likely going to go down the "financial hardship" road, but it sounds like there is nothing i can do. god i cant believe i wasted $20, 000 on that [censor] school. if anyone has a better idea of what i should appeal, please let me know.

I also have had the same experience. I completed ALL of my classes in the "upper division" and returned to a community college to complete the core curriculum. Due to the amount of classes, this took me quite a while. I had been in contact during the entire time - my counselor confirmed my correspondence - they have records of every phone call and email. However, not until I transferred all of my credits was I notified that my degree plan needed to be "updated."

I am putting together an appeal letter now but after reading several of these posts it looks like my chances are slim to none. I do know this - I will not take another class there. I will appeal, and I I do fail, I will go to a real school and finish whatever I need to finish. The stigma of this school is worth the extra effort to avoid. It will be a crap shoot to see which classes may transfer, but I am not about to take 8 classes - that is 40% - to "finish" something I have already completed. My only advice is to weigh all of your options, cut your losses, and keep your eye on the prize. If you are looking to truly advance your career, this easy way out apparently doesn’t fit the bill. I thought as the school grew older the reputation would build – it has not. I walked in to a degree program which was too good to be true - and it definitely was.

I agree 100% with both these comments about UoP. Mine goes all the way back to 2003, and have STILL not gotten a full resolution. I had attended UoP from 2000 to mid-2002 when I had to withdraw due to a death in my family and was responsible for a lot of probate hearings, etc. Thinking I was okay with coming back, I spoke with a "Kenneth" in the Financial Aid department who assured me all would be okay, that my "file" would be updated and that he would "see to it" that my Stafford loans were not cancelled and placed in "full-time student" deferment status. This is when all hell broke loose.

So, I start classes back in January 2003 and everything is all good until I have to yet again withdraw due to more probate issues. So I do, and next thing I know I suddenly have a $2, 130 balance due to UoP! I raised the roof, tried to locate this "Kenneth" and the nice, friendly receptionist/gatekeeper would not let me see him, as he was always "busy" or "with another student". He even skirted my calls; I would average three calls a day until I finally got through...to a lady who said he had quit! That just infuriated me more, and now by this time my $2, 130 balance had reached corporate collections. They too were not very helpful, trying to tell me that was what I owed for ONE class. There was no way possible! I explained to them over and over that I was going through probate/legal hearings and they seemed like they could care less, that paying back that money was top priority to them rather than something I had no control over.

I have ultimately tried and tried and tried to resolve this with their internal collections unit but still get the same story..."you owe what you owe." I told them I could pay in installments due to the age of the so-called "debt" if this would satisfy them but they wanted everything up front. To this day they still say I owe the amount, I firmly and adamantly contest it. Now it is showing on my credit report as a charge-off, I have disputed it three times over, and they still say it is a "valid debt" owed to them. Bottom line, I totally refuse to pay this at all due to some financial aid counselor who didn't know their job from a hole in the ground.

If some class-action suit does come about (SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING instead of talk the talk), I would love to join in. Apollo Group (d/b/a UoP) needs to be grounded fully, for all the headaches they cause people and the monetary burdens they place on people.

My wife unfortunately had the same exact thing happen with her! We are currently battling the same issue as we speak. Were you able to resolve your case? My wife just got her second denial notice. Like you, she was never made aware of a policy change, in fact, the UoP counselors had not known about the policy and therefore admitted that my wife was never made aware of it. Still did not help! My wife was down to 2 remaining non-core lower level electives that were not transferred when she had a medical issue that she had to deal with. The kicker is, she went for two years straight with no breaks at all and had a 3.78 GPA.

We are furious but don't really have any recourse. I was told to take it up with the ODM office.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] financial

I became a UOP student in March of 2017 I couldn't complete my paperwork there uless I signed up for a student loan. I was a single parent at the time with 3 teenages at home one being my nephew. I was making $25, 000 a year and on food stamps. I did FASFA the beginning of that year and qualified. I ended up with a $3500 loan through Sally Mae because of UOP not to mention only 1 of their credits transferred to another college. I am so upset with all this crap that I have been through with UOP it just makes me sick. I can only imagine how many others this has happened too!

I registered with University of Phoenix back in 2017, I later withdrew from the classes and a couple of years later I re-registered and was told that I owe approximately $1800.00; which I thought was outrageous since I withdrew. Later I paid with the amount and re-registered. My work load became more intense at work because I had to also work another position, and with that I emailed and called and told them I would have to end my classes and was told that I should withdraw and I wouldn't be charged. Well, low and behold due to identity theft I got a copy of credit report and who was on there...The University of Phoenix...I sent an email and told them I do not owe this money and they refuse to zero it out. What can I do to get this off of my credit report? I am disputing the claim that I owe this money and they will not work with me.

I have been a student since october 26th and I have been having the most miserable time so far. The school seams to be fun, but I have not seen a dime as far as grants or financial aid. I have been too two colleges and I have always gotton money asp. I have been having to use my daughters child support to pay for the internet and all my supplies. So as far as I am concerned I would not even give this school a referral. And I don't even drink or smoke or use any kind of drugs, But I know someone who uses her school money for drugs, just makes ya wonder what kind of school this is. so far I do not think very highly of this school.

In 2017 I attended Axia College online. What a mess. They must have contacted me 10 times a day AT LEAST until I was approved through the federal government for funds. Then all of a sudden all these Axia people who were supposed to be there to help disappeared.

They started me on a class without notifying me. They then treated me like an elementary school child and took away a class because they said my attendance was not satisfactory (I am in my 60's). Then I begged them back for the class they took away and they stated that my attendance was not good enough (What?) even though I had no idea I was enrolled. Then I could never get in touch the same counselors who said they would always be there for me for any question or problems I may have.

I was almost finished with my one and only class and ready for final tests when toward the end of the class I answered an participation question.

Upon answering that question I was verbally and viciously attacked by another student for my answer. It scared me so bad that I I backed out of the class and tried to call a counselor. No one would return my calls.

During this time is when Axia College finally gave the class back they had taken away but no one called to tell me and I was not about to login due to the student who attacked me. I could get help from no one. However, when it came time for monies to be paid you better believe they called me. I will not pay a dime for one class I never attended to a class I never knew I had to a college that will not return phone calls and I did not approve any federal monies to be paid to Axia. They are coming after me hot and heavy for $2, 000 for one (1) class.

I will not pay them. They have destroyed my credit. I will not pay them. They have harassed me for monies by sending me one letter each day for over 3 months. I will not pay.

There seems to be no numbers they supply a student with if the student has a problem. They do not care about you after they know the money is approved. The money is their bottom line. Period.

Question: Do the teachers at Axia College have no control over the classes that they cannot see what is written before it is posted online? I was fearful for my life upon received the student attack. It is only a matter of time before something bad happens to another student because of what Axia College is doing and if I were a teaching at Axia I would be very careful because Axia is using you and if you have not control over your classroom are you really a teacher?

Axia College is a dangerous place to attend and anyone should know that you can be attacked by another student just for doing your work. Everyone attending class there need be very very cautious!

This college is treading on thin water and should be reported to federal authorities for misappropriating the federal monies they receive for your attending college there and the Texas Attorney General for a verbal attack on a student and the Department of Education for approving them for monies in the first place.

I have kept all my names, dates and documentation. Please everyone keep yours also because this will happen again sooner or later.

Axia College is liars and thieves. I do no want to see anyone be hurt, physically or mentally. . This college is out of control. Any college that is incapable of protecting its students is unacceptable.

Horrible school, horrible customer service. I started one class and I tried to withdraw from the class because I had just started a new job and I was living in a hotel room for two weeks. In that time I fell behind. When I approached my instructor, she gave me pointers on how to try for a D. When the class was over I was told that if I had sought help to leave the class sooner they could have helped me. Because I didn't pass the class financial aid didn't cover it and I couldn't continue the class until I paid the $1700 for one class. They are over priced for such horrible customer service. They wont help in any way and they will mess up your credit. They also have no fear of the Better Business Bureau. Save yourself the effort and just register for online classes with a community college or your local state college.

In 2017 I registered for AAHCA/Medical records and the counselor put me in another classAHCA the day before, then did not change this, which I am sure was intentional and a good bonus for her. The courses ran the same until four months before graduation, then they wanted me to take out another loan to complete a course I did not register for and offered me one class for free. I still needed four other classes and would not even be certified as I was told when I enrolled. Even though I had copies of enrollment papers and all emails. letters. I contacted BBB, Consumer affairs, FTC, Department of Education, Student loans, Attorney Generals, Senators, College and University Accredidfation office( Accredidation office I never heard back from). I was told nothing could be done since they cannot help with courses or funding for a wronged education, it was out of there jurisdictions. . I think the Government is involved in a scam with student loans so they can collect that interest. I would think the University should be paid if the proper degree is received, but they must offer up some great campaign donations. I don't see how they can get away with this. Like many others I have been scammed by financial aid and University of Phoenix just to be in debt with nothing more than a $20, 000 for a General education which is worthless. My name is Maya and I am complaining about the University of Phoenix/Axia College. I have been with the University of Phoenix/Axia College for one year and it was going great in the beginning. My grades were perfect and I had no problems until my last two courses which were Environmental Science and Cultural Diversity. I was told in my Environmental Science class to express how I felt about nature and not to mention my HONEST opinion, that's exactly what I gave and I was attacked by the instructor. That is just the beginning of my problems with UOP. In my Cultural Diversity class I was told off by one of the students who happen to be older but i did not sweat it. The student told me that I need to open up a African American history book. We were told in the beginning of the course to write a autobiography of ourselves and that is with every course you start at UOP. I am an African American and I found the remark to be very racial and prejudice. I also stated in one of my discussion questions that I was from a mixed ethnic background and I felt I was attacked for it. I recommend anyone who wants to go to this scandalous school read up on your facts first because if you do not do this they will leave you in the dark and drag you though the mud so please be careful. I am in the middle of a situation right at this very moment with UOP, they want a very hefty amount of money for classes that they failed me in and not to mention again they asked my HONEST opinion and I gave it. I should not be punished for my personal opinion especially since it was asked for. In my time at UOP, I have only heard from my adcademic, financial, and enrollment counselors a few times. They tell you to call and leave a message if they are not available but contrary to popular facts they do not call you back. it is the same process with emails they do not get back. So, once again I recommend for anyone who badly wants to go to online schooling or should I say distant learning make sure you read all of the complaints and all of the paperwork they send in the mail it will help you see how scimmish and scandalous they are.

I was recently blocked in the online community because I reported Religious Abuse. There were people making comments ( I made None) Only reported what I saw were people were stating any religious beliefs other than their own were going to "Burn in Hell". I found this to be very inappropriate not to mention against anyone that read this university online community against peoples First Amendment Rights. So I reported it. Now over three weeks I have been blocked in all communities by the AC office stating I wrongfully reported abuse where there was non to mind my own business, get over it, and move on. They did not only block me there but I have lost my Library, Help icon and many more. I would really like to know what right do I have and what can I do about this. We as student do pay resource of 95.00 per class and if I am being denied these things. Then why should I pay these fees? Please advise me on what I need to do.

The University of Phoenix crossed an ethical line. After endless computer trouble I knew I needed to drop before the 2 week deadline, they wouldn't let me drop. They went as far as to post threads in Arizona to meet the class requirements. Just enough to allow full billing. Then it was"sorry we can't help", How convenient. I refused to pay, they refuse to let go of the credit report they hold hostage.Anyone with a similar complaint should contact Leanne Chitwood http://arizonabbb.org/ not that she was any help, I don't think anyone realizes how often this crap happens.

I attended uop in 2017. They were extremely helpful signing me up, but when they started pushing financial aid, I informed them that I had the montgomery gi bill and did not want a loan. They persisted and told me to do the loan for the time period until the gi bill kicked in. I now owe sally may $3000.00. While taking classes, they increase tuition so I had to pay out of pocket as well! I finally got fed up, emailed my counselor, the teacher and staff member that I was pissed and quitting school. I attended 2 weeks and now I owe them $1100.00 out of pocket for not canceling the proper way. They will not release to my new school until I pay and since I put uop on my list of schools I had attended while applying for my new university, they will not accept me until I get uop transcripts sent to them. One big student trap. Beware vets or anyone interested in uop, they are not worth it and the government should warn all veterans about uop's shady practices.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] thieves

I was recently enrolled at the University of Phoenix up to a week ago. During my whole time there I could not stop thinking that I was completely wasting my time there. Well I decided to quit, and I have become convinced that I was wasting my time.

First of all I should have been concerned about their recruitment process. They purchased my contact information from a dishonest source and then recruited me very actively for a whole year. They would not give up. I screened so many phone calls before finally giving in. This recruitment method is characteristic of a corporations commitment to their only purpose, making money. They want to enroll as many students as possible, and they pusch all students to borrow large sums of money from the government. The average UOP student will pay about $ 32, 000 for 2 years roughly for a degree.

Often during the middle of a class they will inform you that there are remaining balances that the government did not cover. At traditional schools, students usually know about outstanding debts before a semmester begins. Not at this school. As a result, i told the school i could not come up with the outsatnding debt, and that I was not interested in doing so. Next thing you know, the school was able to locate a grant to pay for the remaining tuition. It was obvious that once I would not pay it, the school paid it. This way they can keep you enrolled and collect more loan money for students in the long run. They still would profit more by keeping students as long as possible.

Another issue is the school's decision on the order in which I took classes. I previuosly went to the University of Florida and only needed 2 math credits to obtain my associates. When I decided to quit recently at UOP, I told my counselor that when I come back after a break, I would prefer to finnish those 2 classes before I continue with my upper level undergrad work. I was told that was a bad idea becuase they know what is best for me. The counselor stated that taking the math credits would throw me ofdf rythm with my businesses classes. I think the real reason is they felt that if I finnished those courses, I colud get my associates and enroll elsewhere. They construct different plans to hold students therer as long as possible.

The biggest issue is the quality of the programs at the school. The professor's are great, but I hate to say it but most of the people in classes would not survive one semmester at a traditional school. At UOP these people are pulling A's and B's. Many of them can not even write on a high school level. At the shcool you have to write on average 2 lengthy essays per week, but students recieve great grades for just trying. The school just started throwing test and exams into class cirriculum, however the teahcers give you all the answers before the tests.

I realized that obtaing a degree at this school would do nothing for me. Sure the schoolis accredited, but $32, 000 is a lot to pay for a meaingless degree. I believe a prospective employer would never hire me, and I would be stuck with an outstanding debt owned to the government.

I have been out of class for a week now, but the school has no idea that I am not interested in returning. I know I am going to go through hell trying to permantently quit.

My advice is do not waste your time and money because this is a subpar school that seeks only profits. Employers are well versed on this subject so the average graduate will most likely end up only working for the school.

Stay away from UOP, Keiser U, ITT, DEvry and the rest of these schools unless you are certain they can help you.

You have been warned.

uOP rejected my employer's tuition reimbursement & instead accepted a student loan, so I was left in debt because of their incompetence & failed to correct the error. They are a bunch of thieves at uop, the financial aide dept. only communicates with you once and that is the ONE time to get your money once you sign the contract it is very hard to talk.to them afterwards, they do not return calls. I have dated documents with times & names of whom I spoke with concerning mix up with my employer's tuition reimbursement attempts to pay for my classes Vs. accepting payment thru a loan. I basically spoke with a person at an unk remote site & I was told that they no longer met on a person to person basis, it was all done via telephone. Which I thought was so chicken ### of them. For years I had been trying to get UoP to refund my money which was about less than $8, 000.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] what education?

I have been attending UOP for over a year now and have had nothing but problems. Learning teams are antiquated and really do not work at UOP. Most students stay with the same group for several classes. Once ensconced in a learning team, no outsiders are welcome to join. Instructors (oh I'm sorry they are facilitators) are aware, but don't care. So, your learning team completely ignores you and you end up with a failing grade because you didn't participate in your learning team. Sounds like the chicken and the egg huh? I haven't seen a dispersement check in ages and no one can explain to me why. Employers don't recognize UOP and credits don't transfer to a REAL school. I really wish I had never set foot on UOP soil.

If you or anyone you know is considering UOP, tell them to run as far and as fast as possible in the opposite direction.

HEY! Go easy on this student. I attended UOP over two years ago and I disagree with learning teams. The learning team was not what I expected it to be at all. I thought we would all put our share of ideas to work. Unfortunately, after doing so things did not go over well at all. This student who was on our team stated she would do her part in researching she did not we lack points on our presentation. Luckly, I followed my first ming and research the topic which brought the team back to an A+. I have my other fellow students to thank. I do not understande why we have learning teams. Oh! be sure to pay UOP. They will try and block you from transferring, you may want to contact a lawyer. Stay away from BMC I have heard something about them I say go to a real University like Avila this way you get what you expect and pay for in an education.

If you have had nothing but problems then why are you still attending? You will end up with learning teams at any other online school so you might as well just get used to it. You don't have to be an online student to "not do" your work. I have had learning team members at a ground campus not show up for meetings and not participate in an assignment.

PS credits are transferable because I have done it. May want to do some mroe research before you bash an educational institution... Try getting into see a counselor at a ground class, and also try to get them to help you put together your schedule...They're useless, I graduated with 18 extra credits due to counseling issues. Try and transfer classes that don't even count towards your program while you were wasting your ime listening to anoher couselor, then you come talk to me.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] tution/collections

I am in debt to University of Phoenix for $2000.00 due to classses that UOP dropped me from, these classes were paid for by my student loan and the money was sent back to the lendor becuase the class was not completed. I have been trying to resolve this issue for nearly a year now. My account was transfered to a Corporate Collections Department therefore no one at the School will help me get my education back on track, all they will tell me is the money has to be paid to the collections depatment before anything will be done. Under advise of a financial counselor, I completed my FAFSA for the year and I am eligible for $5350.00 according to the FAFSA webite as of today 11/4/09 however a check cannot be cut because a school has not signed off, the school can't sign untill I am registered for a class, I cant register for a class untill the past due balance is paid. I can't pay the past due balance without my FAFSA, in addition I have a student loan that is accessible pending return to class, I have asked that my account be returned back to the school so that I may re-enroll at the school, I understand that I have a past due balance. What I don't understand, is that between my student loan and my FAFSA the past due balance plus any current fund requirement will all be meet before my first semester has even ended, why the school refuses to pull my account back from collections when it isn't even a third party collections agancy. It is still within the company. I find it hard to believe, being that I have worked collections for a great number pf years both 1st, 2nd and third party collections and know for a fact that a client can withdraw a single account at any point and time. If the Debtor is trying to resolve their debt with them directly. In this case that is what I am trying to do and I keep getting the run around by each department. I do not believe that having solid proof (NLDS), knowing full well, the school can get all their money owed plus future payments, they would still refuse to assist a student in trying to get their education and get their funds in the meantime.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] misleading

I began a Business Managment degree program with Univiersity of Phoenix in April 2003. I had only a few elective credits to complete before graduation in September 2006. I met with my "Academic Counselor" prior to deciding which elective test I would take to complete my credits. She suggested a literature test (which was very difficult), I took the test and passed with flying colors! 4 weeks later I received a letter from UOP headquarters telling me that I would not receive credit for the test I took as it duplicated coursework at UOP. I tried to appeal 3 times but was denied. I was so furious that I have not pursued finishing those credits unitl now. I just called UOP to get the updated test list and was asked if I had received the info about the UOP Bus Mngmt Program policy change. No, I have not. No email, no regular mail, no phone call. I am within my time limit of completeing my credits to get my degree (it is 7 years from your start date) but now I have to appeal to UOP to finish those credits without being forced to take 10 additional classes that are part of the NEW program at UOP. UOP is a joke, I would NEVER suggest that anyone attend as eduation is not important to them, the almighty dollar is.

Giving the opportunity to go back to school for my associates degree was blessing for me. I decided to go to UOP and they said that my tuition and materials will be paid for through financial aid and a student loan. My grade point was 3.5 and I was exertremly proud of myself because I never thought I can do so well in a university. After four months I recieved a letter in the mail stating that my balance was zero balance. In September, the financial advisor called me to make payment arrangements on my account. She stated my account had a outstanding balance of 1, 400 dollars and I can pay out of pocket or pay thru my student loan. I was upset thru the whole conversation because she stated that I couldn't take my next two classes until the debt was paid in full. I ask her why is she calling me about money when I recieved a letter stating that my loans was paid in full, of course the phone was in silence. She never gave me direct answer about this and I start getting really upset because I felt misled, lied to, and robbed. My next classes started on October 4, 2010 and they dropped me from the school because I didn't have the money to pay for them. I didn't hear from them for weeks, than I get a call of course a week before Thanksgiving from Michelle (financial advisor) saying I'm 60 days late paying on a debt. I explained to her I couldn't afford the school and if I had that kind of money I would have went to a Community College instead of UOP. She said that the debt will be transfered over to collections and I can make payment arrangements with them. Today [protected]) I called collection to make payment arrangements and they decline the offer I gave them which was 20.00 dollars a month because I'm on a fix income, they decline and said I have 90 days to pay or the debt will go on my credit report as bad debt. They wanted me to give them 1, 246 up front or pay 400.00 dollars or else my credit will be ****, but I just do not have that kind of money. I need help, they lied to me and all I wanted is clear answers and I'm getting the run around and now UOP is distroying my future and credit all in one year. I only took five classes and owe 8, 000 dollars to my student loan and found out that all the classes I took is not transferable to any other college. I'm frustrated and need help to get my money back. I want in on the class action suit. Any additional information to get involved I will gladly give. Please contact me and hope this web site can help me and others that have been misled. I want to talk to someone or make some type of moves because believe me UOP is not going to stop using, misleding, lieing, over charging people until they are shut down. PLEASE HELP!

I had the same experience, they changed the 7 year to 10 year graduation requirement on me. Even though I have proves that they did not disclose the information properly, or that they were misleading, I had no luck changing their mind. I am still paying the loan for an unfinished degree, and refuse to go back to University of Phoenix, unless they will allow me to finish my degree under the 10 year guideline. I get the same impression that they are after the money. I do not know how these people can sleep at night! Can 't they see how much damage they cause! I am furious, and I do loose sleep over it! Anyone who has the same situation, please comment; perhaps, we will be able to build a strong case against them and will be allowed to finish a degree as promised.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] non pay for required training, hostile work environment during training

I have a PhD and decades of teaching higher education and was accepted to teach classes on line and entered into the faculty training last week. There were 11 additional people. I was shocked when the trainer showed discrimination by allowing a candidate to complete an assignment - I had the same computer problem, and she did not offer me the same consideration. When I questioned this she, without my permission, took my personal comments out of context, degraded and humiliated me by forwarding them to the rest of the class, thus creating a hostile work environment. My complaints to their internal reporting system would not take my formal filing, thus I forwarded a cease and desist warning, and am working within the state employment agencies between my state and Arizona.

It is also noted, for students who go there, that actual student emails and comments were posted for faculty to review during training. These were not altered in anyway and I am sure they do not have the students' permission to utilize these. In addition, I now find out the required training is voluntary and I will receive no pay for the over 57 hours I put in. Please let me know avenues you may direct me in aside from the employment agencies that I may also register my complaint with.

I also have a PhD in my field, years of University teaching experience, and I work as a professional in my field. I looked into teaching for U of phoenix; I sent in my resume and in return I got an invitation to send in my transcripts. I also received a very suspiciously vague description about the "training" that is required that is not paid. I asked the faculty recruiter what exactly is involved in this unpaid training, and she refused to answer the question (Judi Villa in Louisiana). It soon became apparent that these people were recruiting faculty by being very dishonest. One must wonder if this applies to there student recruitment as well.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] money over cancer

I enrolled in what I thought was the University of Phoenix for online classes to complete an Associate's Degree that I had never found the time to complete back in September 2009. It wasn't until they had me hooked that I realized I would be attending "Axia College." I started having problems almost immediately with counselors talking in circles and "misunderstandings" alsmot right away. After a month long battle with getting my previous college credits accepted towards my program and paying for PLA (Prior Learning Assesment) credits, I began acing my classes. I have now completed 5 blocks of classes with all "A's" with the exception of 1 Math class; my final grade was a "B."

Recently I informed my counselors that I needed a break because I was under medical care. I withdrew from my classes and received a 2 week break. Almost immediately I was informed that I would need a surgical biopsy, which I promptly reported to my counselors at Axia College right away. Since I had already used up almost all of the first 2 week break, I requested another break with hopes that the results of my biopsy would be good news - meaning I would be fine and able to return to classes on October 12, 2009.

I had my surgery on September 28, 2009 and my Academic Counselor Erin M. called me less than 24 hours after my surgery she said to "make sure I was on track for my classes on October 12." Needless to say I was annoyed that she was bothering me with this nonsense when I had informed her of my surgery, date, time and location; as well as specific medical information relating to the surgery. (I flet like they were questing my intregrity!)

I received the results of that biopsy on October 8, 2009. Well, the news was not good. I was informed that I had Follicular Lymphoma and would require approximately 6 months of treatments - meaning a possible combination of radiation and chemotherapy. I took a day to process the news, call family, friends and loved ones and then I sent an email to my counselors at Axia College informing them of my situation, as well as providing documentation from my surgeon and doctor. I informed them at that time that I would need to take time off school while I received treatment for Cancer.

As per my usual experience my Academic Advisor did not answer my email right away, as "she was out of the office." (Over the past year I found this to be the case every time I needed to chat with her - all I can say is I hope she isn't terminal because Erin M. is out sick at least 1 - 3 days almost every week! Anyway, I tried to follow up with a phone call on Monday because I was supossed to start my classes, and I wanted to make sure they knew I would not be starting.I waited as Monday, October 12 was a holiday. (I also informed them that I would be seeing my Oncologist for the first time Thursday, October 15, 2009.)

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 I spent most of the day creating a durable power of attorney and researching cremation plans and costs "just in case." After a long and tearful day my Academic Advisor (Erin M.) and my Financial Aid Advisor made a conference call to me. Can you imagine my outrage when they told me they were calling to "make payment arrangements" for the classes I withdrew from because I was ill. I told them to "shove their payment arrangements where the sun didn't shine, and promptly hung up on them.

I learned early on with these people to get everything in writing, so I kept each and every email I sent or received from anyone at, or affiliated with the school. Erin M. has tried to tell me that she was "unaware" of my situation when I told her I was angry with her timeing and her lack of sensitivity relating to my sudden onset catastraphic medical situation. (I know I kept her informed and I have the emails with dates and time stamps to prove it!)

The bottom line is in life Cancer trumps everything but money owed to University of Phoenix. It seems as long as they get their money, all is right with the world. Be forwarned! You could be going along in your everyday life, find a lump on your neck and find out you have Cancer too! God help you if you are enrolled in University of Phoenix, because they will call your graveside to "make sure you are on track" and "make payment arrangements!"

University of Phoenix [UOPX] creditability

I was reviewing alot of the complaints againt Axia College / University of Phoenix, and was shocked to learn that it was a scam. Alot of the complaints stated that alot employers will not except a degree from UOP, along with complaints of money scams. There was also a statement made about the students in college lacked in education, text books had spelling and grammer errors, and the the professors did not respond when needed.

I am currently in my sophmore year with the University of Phoenix. In just a few months I will be graduating with my Associates in HealthCare Administration and I am looking forward to obtaining my Bachelors Degree.

I myself have been skeptic of this school. How can one obtain a REAL education online? At the time I was enrolled in Illinois Central College and my sister was enrolled in UOP. I sat down with her one day and compared notes. All in all, we were obtaining the same education. The difference was the convience.

Before I transferred, I consulted my school counselors. They assured me that University of Phoenix is an Acredited school. They also added that the University meets the same requirements as they do. Therefore, whether I choose ICC or UOP, I will be recieving the same education.

To comment on the financial aspect of UOP, I have never had a complication. My checks were distributed to me within 6-8 weeks. Keep in mind that this is a combination of loans, therefore there is a long paper trail. If you have questions, it is very important to stay in contact with you financial and acedemic counselor.

To boot, the loans that I have obtained to go to school, also boosted my credit score. (As long as you pay your loans off in a timely manner.)

Keep in mid, its a personal choice. But for me, I am greatful for the opportunity I have to go to school. Good luck!

I am actually getting the same degree as you tlittle 03. I will be finished with my associates in a few weeks and will be continuing on to get my BS. I also have not really had any problems with this school. The only hesitations I ever had were because of all the bad stuff I read on these things. Alot of these complaints could be cleared up if the individuals would have just read the information they signed when they decided to go with the UOP. Read the fine print! No one is stopping you. My experience in this school has been challenging academically and helpful financially. I am not a stupid person and I got very reasonable grades all through highschool as well as now in this school. I am a single mother so I qualify for big payouts every 6 months or so. I get $2000 checks in the mail multiple times a year! That money really helps a single mother like me. I am very in tune with my financial status at the UOP and every cent I have recieved from my lender or the government is accounted for. Do your own research and keep track of yourself. Now not everyone is going to have a great experience. Didn't your mother tell you that you can't please everyone. The people that have problems with the UOP probably did not follow the rules. It is called life and you need to suck it up and take responsibilty for your own actions.

bigtimegeologist: Please return to Oklahoma State University. Your spelling and grammar is horrible. MicroSoft offers a program called Word which can check both spelling and grammar. I am sure such a big time school like Oklahoma State told you of this program.

tlittle 03, I guess they don't teach punctuation, spelling, and grammer at UOP. Reading your comments told me all i need to know about UOP. Try getting a real science degree there like engineering (EE or civil). If you pay the money you should get the "real thing". Ask your trusted counselors if you can get a dgree in geology or law.
I have a BS from Oklahoma State University and trust me, IT"S NOT HE SAME!

University of Phoenix [UOPX] discriminatory practices, misuse of title iv funds and accounting practices, and substandard ethics

Please let me introduce myself. I am currently a Doctoral of Organizational Management in Leadership student with the University of Phoenix and a 2008 graduate with a Master of Business Administration and specialization in Public Administration. I am also a former Online Academic Counselor located at the main campus in Phoenix, AZ.

BACKGROUND HISTORY

On April 10, 2009, I resigned from my position after 2 and a half years. In March 0f 2009, I filed an age discrimination charge with the EEOC and the Arizona Attorney General's Office. After filing the charge, my work environment immediately turned hostile and efforts were being made to terminate my employment.
Prior to going to the EEOC, I informed my manager that I needed a day off. I informed him via email that I was going to go to the EEOC and make a charge. Within 2 days after filing my charge with the EEOC, I was immediately put on a performance plan. In essence, this was a form of retaliation for going to the EEOC and making the charge. One I was placed on the performance plan, I immediately informed my attorney. During this time frame, my attorney was negotiating with the Apollo Group, Inc. legal counsel. While my attorney was negotiating the terms for my request to move to a different division, I continued to work in a hostile environment. I was continually asked to attend meetings with my manager, James McAdams, and senior manager, Jennifer Beane. The meetings were explained to me as a requirement for the performance plan; however, I know the meetings were held as a method to make my work environment as uncomfortable as possible. I was also explicitly told not to communicate with any of my colleagues at any time.

Furthermore, I later found out after I left the company that some of my colleagues were specifically told by management not to communicate with me in any shape or form during or after work. If the organization found out that they were corresponding with me, they were informed that they would lose their jobs. The reason for this was to prevent me from informing other colleagues of my situation and charges to the EEOC in an attempt to beat down any support for my case. While I went to work and completed my duties, I was told on a daily basis that my request was being considered and that I would be transferred soon. After 1 week, I still did not receive the transfer that was promised and negotiated by my attorney and Apollo Group, Inc.'s attorney. In hindsight, we realized that it was a stall tactic to allow my manager and senior manager to enforce the performance plan within a two week period of time. If I did not perform according to the performance plan, I would be terminated. As a result, I knew that the performance plan was unattainable and subjective to the requirements of my manager and senior manager. Therefore, on the day that I was to receive the results of my performance plan I decided to submit my resignation and leave under my own terms. While I was leaving the facility, I decided to stop by and speak with Vice-President Nikki Mancuso. She was unaware of my resignation and told me that she was aware that they were attempting to get me transferred. After our brief meeting, she said I could go home and that I could use my vacation until the transfer was completed. After one week, I finally heard back from the human resources department in a conference call with Ms. Mancuso and the HR representative. In less than 30 seconds, they informed me that the company was going to accept my resignation and the transfer was not going to be awarded.]

Since my resignation at the University of Phoenix, I have decided to make it a life long crusade for me to inform the public about the practices of this deceptive organization. As of today, I have gone to numerous lengths in speaking out against the organization. I have posted on similar sites such as [redacted], FACEBOOK, and even created fake dating website profiles displaying my story. Ironically, the University of Phoenix has a presence on FACEBOOK and a huge marketing effort as well. As a result, I was informed by FACEBOOK that my account would be terminated for violating policy which never was explained. I think its obvious why my FACEBOOK account got terminated.

As of today, I continue to get inquiries through different emails and websites about my experiences as a student and employee with the University of Phoenix. I intend to convince as many students and employee's as possible to attend and work for other institutions in an effort to compensate for the financial, educational, and personal damage the institution has caused me. At present, I have changed the minds of over 60 students and 15 potential employees from attending or working at the organization. Based on those numbers alone, I would propose that I have eliminated about $3, 600, 000 from its revenue. A far cry from my humble $35, 000 a year academic counseling position. SO maybe it wasn't in the best interest of Apollo Group, Inc. to accept my resignation? Or at least, I'm going to think that way.

I'm not stopping at those numbers either. I have made this a life ambition and will continue to encourage individuals both students and employees to become active in speaking out and standing up for yourself. If you are an employee and feel as though you have an issue, go to the EEOC, make a charge, and take a stand. If you are a student and feel the you have been wronged, write your congressman and the Department of Education. If you are a potential student gathering information, I would suggest that you attend elsewhere. GOOD LUCK.

The following is my account of the operations at Apollo Group, Inc:

HOW APOLLO GROUP, INC. OPERATES FROM AN INTERNAL VIEW

My intent with this report is to offer current or prospective students some insight to the University of Phoenix and its parent group, Apollo Group, Inc. The bottom line with Apollo Group and its educational institutions (AXIA, University of Phoenix, and Western International University) is the bottom line. The company's mission is to profit at the expense of those who cannot attend elsewhere. Ask yourself, why is it so easy to get into the University of Phoenix, Axia College, or Western International University? The answer: Apollo Group makes it easy for the student to start quickly by maintaining and open enrollment policy. Once the student is enrolled, the company keeps the student in attendance by using sales strategies (promise of a better job), scare tactics (collections), unearned grades (A's), and financial hooks or gimmicks (Title IV misappropriations). These practices generate the billions of dollars in revenue for the organization which more than 70% of that revenue comes from Title IV funding.

As a student, I was not aware of these strategies. I began my education with the University of Phoenix by entrusting those within the organization and believed everything I was told. When I became an employee on January 29, 2007, I was thrilled to be in a position of helping fellow students. However, I quickly became disenchanted with the organization. Within the first 6 months of my employment, I was witness to students receiving grades by faculty that were unearned, employees given preferential treatment based on their religion, employees unjustly promoted to positions above colleagues with better qualifications, age discrimination, and substandard business ethics. In addition, the organization trains both faculty and staff to operate in a manner that leaves the student with the impression that the student come's first at the university. This is a complete fallacy.

I put together the following statistics for the audience to consider in forming their own opinion about the intentions of Apollo Group. As an Online Academic Counselor, I was assigned a student load of approximately 400 students. Of which, 300 to 350 of those students would be active at any given time. During my tenure, I held a retention percentage between 60 to 65 %. On average, the cost of tuition is $2, 000 per class taking into consideration the cost of attendance for all the institutions under the Apollo Group umbrella. Using my highest retention percentage as a peak indicator, 65 % of 400 equals 260 active students. 260 active students paying roughly $2, 000 a class generates approximately $520, 000 in tuition for a 6 week block. The University of Phoenix refers to classes taken in blocks with blocks being 5, 6, or 9 weeks in duration depending upon the institution. For this illustration, I use the 6 week block which coincides with the length of graduate courses. Therefore, using this time period or block gives the benefit to the University of Phoenix in calculating revenue generated based on time.

Using the 6 week length of time for classes results in 8.66 blocks in one academic year. Using 8.66 times $520, 000 equals $4, 506, 666 annual dollars from 1 online academic counselor. In my division, the Online Southeast Division had 8 academic counseling teams during the time of my employment. Each of those teams had a minimum of 8 academic counselors resulting in approximately 64 academic counselors; however, this number will vary from time to time due to the growth and turnover factors. By still using these numbers as a base, an overall projection of annual retention revenue can be generated for the Online Southeast Division and that figure is $288, 426, 666. Staggering? These figures are for only 1 division. There are 8 divisions that comprise University of Phoenix Online (Southeast, Northeast, Midwest, Mountain, Southwest, West, Military, International). Again, using the dollar figures as a basis from the Online Southeast Division, the total revenue generation for all divisions with the University of Phoenix complex exceeds $2, 307, 413, 333. YES! Over 2 billion dollars and this does not include ground campus revenue. These dollars are the ONLY concern by Apollo Group Inc. and its management.

SALES, SALES, SALES

I think the following might be of interest to many of the readers, but about a month (March 2009) prior to quitting I attended our division awards ceremony. During the ceremony, the Vice-President, Nikki Mancuso, of the Online Southeast Division speech which focused on the growth of student enrollments for the division. This is a subtle way of referring to the monetary growth for the company. She made no reference to the our work and its impact on the student or the education industry. During the ceremony, the management team gave out awards and distributed them to enrollment, finance, and academic counselors. [At the time of this original report, Ms. Mancuso was still employed with the University of Phoenix; however, I now understand that she resigned shortly after I filed my EEOC charge and now employed by Grand Canyon University along with a number of other former Apollo Group employees. I find this to be a little queer.] Prior to the ceremonies, I had decided to take note of how the ceremony broke down in regard to award distrubition. After the awards were distributed, I calculated that approximately 100 awards were distributed. The breakdown of the award distribution was as follows: 70% Enrollment Counselors/Managers, 20% Academic Counselors/Managers and the remaining 10% to Finance Counselors/Managers. The results of this breakdown clearly suggest that the emphasis of the Apollo Group institutions is primarily focused on enrollment (or the proper term: sales). The reader may also find it interesting that the awards were titled Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. As a former sales representative who attended sales conventions and award ceremonies in the past, I felt as though I had gone back in time to a place I had been before.

THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND THE POLITICS

Due to the enormous revenue generated by this organization, the company has become so powerful that it can manipulate political entities. One such entity is the Department of Education. If the Department of Education decided to perform due diligence and complete a rigorous audit of the companies accounting practices and uses of TITLE IV funding, the Department of Education would have no other choice than to strip the organization of TITLE IV funding. Matter of fact, the Department of Education could have used the organizations latest legal issue regarding religious discrimination (preference to Mormon's) as a basis to eliminate TITLE IV funding; however, as usual this body of government choose to look the other way. Furthermore, the organization continues to walk a thin line in complying with TITLE IV funding in addition to other compliance issues such as FERPA (Federal Education Rights Privacy Act) and DNC (Do not call) violations. Due to these ongoing compliance issues, the Department of Education could revoke its funding and strip the university of its accreditation; however, the Department of Education much like many of its other political counterparts choose to ignore the problem by monitoring rather than enforcing.

So why does the Department of Education stand idly by and let the organization do as it pleases? There are three reasons for the Department of Education's “Hands Off” policy as it relates to Apollo Group, Inc and the University of Phoenix. Those reasons are as follows: 1) the power struggle between government entities and corporate America. The financial wealth of the organization has become so massive and powerful that it can and does influence the political institution that governs its behavior. 2) The power of money extends to its lobbyists, shareholders, and the political influence of those shareholders. The politically influential shareholders have a self-interest in the financial well-being of Apollo Group, Inc. I could list a number of politicians who hold Apollo Group, Inc. shares; however, I fear retribution if I were to name names. Here in Arizona, I may even come up missing. Thus, those individuals will use that power to prevent any financial harm to the organization because it will impact their financial stake in the organization as well. 3) Due to the company being the largest private educational institution, the company has the largest number of students that could be negatively impacted. If the Department of Education decided to stop TITLE IV funding, chaos would ensue due to the mass exodus of students to other institutions. In addition, how does the Department of Education manage the funds previously and currently distributed to existing students? As a result of these concerns, the Department of Education has taken a "hand off", wait-and-see, monitoring approach rather than perform the duties expected of the organization such as enforcement.

THE QUESTION OF ACCREDITATION

Apollo Group, Inc. educational institutions are not accredited at the same levels of other prestigious institutions for certain disciplines such as business degrees. Please check out the MBA program and its accrediting body. The university misleads students into believing that its MBA degree and other business degrees are on PAR with other institutions such as Harvard and others. For this alone, the University should be chastised by the Department of Education for using substandard business practices in the recruitment of its business students. This does not apply to only business students, but students in other programs such as Nursing, Counseling, and Education. Remember, INTEL dropped their affiliation with the university for some of these reasons and more.
All I can say is BUYER BEWARE.

HOW TO GET OUT AFTER YOU GET IN!

# 1: Ignore your financial, academic, and enrollment counselors. These individuals are trained and coached in sales strategies to discourage students from dropping out or transferring. Also, do not fall for the Financial Aid/Student Loan/Return to Lender scare tactic. These are strategies used to put fear into students in order to keep them in class and not to leave the institution. [I was forced to use this strategy with my students on a regular basis.] Another tactic is the two week break tactic. Counselor are trained and coached to keep students from not taking a break longer than two weeks. If a student takes a break longer than two weeks, the student is considered a t-drop [UOPX terminology] student which affects the performance matrix of the counselors. The performance matrix is a measure or device in which counselors are evaluated for raises. The matrix can be manipulated in several ways and often times done so by management. The intent of the matrix is to force a sales-based, pay for performance strategy at the university. The performance pay structure travels a thin line in being compliant with the Department of Education requirements for paying counselors. Again, the Department of Education has turned its head away from discouraging this practice and forcing the university to use another pay structure.

#2: Make sure your account is paid in full at the time you take your last class. DO NOT spend your financial aid money if you know that you will be leaving the school. If you have funds on account or received an excess check, DO NOT spend these funds either. THIS IS THE HOOK. If you do not have the ability to pay this back at the time that you quit, you will not be able to obtain financial aid at another institution or have your transcripts sent to another institution for evaluation to be admitted. If you owe money to any institution at Apollo Group, be prepared for a tumultuous journey of leaving the institution. You will continue to be harassed by all your counselors and at some point the collections department.

#3: Demand an Official Withdrawal Form and make sure to get confirmation that it has been submitted to University Services by any of your counselors. DO NOT violate any student code of conduct policy. Violating this code could prevent you from being accepted as a potential transfer student at another institution.

#4: DO NOT let them intimidate you.

SOLUTIONS

DO NOT refer people to the institution. Prevent them from attending out of their best interest.

Trust me when I say look for other institutions. Today, many traditional schools including junior colleges offer online classes that are convenient for all learners. In the past, Apollo Group, Inc. had a monopoly on the industry resulting in its rapid growth over the last 20 years. In addition, beware of other similar online institutions such as Grand Canyon University, Kaplan University, The Art Institute, and South University with the later two belonging to EDMC. EDMC current president is Todd Nelson. Mr. Nelson is the former president of Apollo Group, Inc. I recommend googling Todd Nelson, University of Phoenix, and learn the history of his administration and the legal battles incurred under his administration prior to attending or working for any institution under the EDMC umbrella. Also, I would recommend googling Brian Mueller, University of Phoenix, and Grand Canyon University too. Mr. Mueller replaced Mr. Nelson at Apollo Group, Inc. and recently left Apollo Group, Inc. to become the President of Grand Canyon University. Many former employee's of Apollo Group, Inc. now work at those institutions. I wonder why?

If you want a quality education from a respectable institution, search out those institutions that were brick and mortar schools that now have established online classes. A few examples of these types of schools to consider would be University of Texas, University of Tennessee, and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. You may need to meet a more stringent entrance requirement and be required to take a graduate entrance exam, but in the long-run you will definitely receive a better ROI (return on investment) on your education and institution.

1st RESPONSE TO ORIGINAL COMPLAINT:

Response to Inquiry about UOP Employment Experience

To XXXX:

I receive several requests by potential employees and students about my experiences as a student and employee. The following is my general response to those who inquiry about my experience as a university employee. I wanted to share these thoughts with those of you who are interested.

If you need a job and they offer you one, I would take it. The university does have great benefits. My issue was not with the education but with internal opportunities, discriminatory practices, and legal issues the university has had to deal with in the past few years.

I left the university as a result of age discrimination practiced within my division. Prior to my resignation, the university settled a religious discriminatory lawsuit in 2009 regarding preferential treatment to Mormon's. The settlement was to avoid greater consequences if found guilty in a court of law. Since the
evidence was substantial against the university which I continued to witness even after the settlement, the company followed in the footsteps of other corporate "copycat" strategies to avoid a guilty verdict in a court of law in order to maintain damage control both financial and public image.

In my case, I filed a charge with the EEOC for age discrimination and retaliation which is being investigated as of this update. The EEOC believes my charge has merit and is looking into the matter and moving forward. When I left the company, I was not quiet. I sent emails, filed reports, kept all my documentation (email
communications), and submitted reviews to a number of websites such as [redacted]. I also was vocal and had a presence on Facebook until
Facebook removed my account. (Most likely from pressure by the University of Phoenix).

Working in other positions outside of enrollment still leaves you suspect to the mistreatment by management. There is not a less stressful position than another. If you are young, white, female, and somehow connected to the LDS, you have an outstanding chance in moving forward within the organization. If you are a demographic outside of those parameters, I would suggest that you may find it very difficult to move forward in your career with the company.

Matter of fact, I have several friends and former colleagues still at the university. I just found out by one of them that they had been threatened by a Finance Manager in the Southeast Division (Daisy -----). She told them that if they communicate with me or the EEOC about my charges/lawsuit that they would lose their jobs.
THIS behavior is against the law and I'm actually in the process of informing the EEOC about this information. This is the type of behavior and environment that you will be dealing with.

However, I would never tell someone to turn a job down in this economy. You can take the job, finish your education for free, and over a period of time if you
do not move forward simply quit. I took that path; however, I decided to quit at a bad time. In the meantime, I have joined another educational institution who places value on the student and its employee's and relies on sound and ethical business practices. This is in contrast to the business principles practiced by Apollo Group, Inc.

I am still working on my Doctorate with the university for a couple of reasons. I got caught in the financial aid trap the university employs and must finish 3 more classes. Once, I finish those classes I will be transferring to Boston University Online to finish my Doctorate degree.

I hope this helps you. Most importantly, you have to live with your decision. You are definitely on the right path by inquiring about the organization. Get all the information and base your decision on that information.

2nd RESPONSE TO ORIGINAL COMPLAINT:

Getting out in Texas: Amanda

Dear Amanda:

I want to address your concerns and inquiry about how to leave the University of Phoenix; however, I first want to congratulate you on choosing to further your education. In deciding to further your education, I am positive that you have made the right decision for yourself.

Since education is considered to be a person's greatest investment, each person should be confident in getting a substantial return on that investment. Therefore, your concerns about the University of Phoenix are legit and real. What ROI will you receive on a degree from the University of Phoenix? This is a question that I cannot answer nor any University of Phoenix employee. The only fact about getting an education is that the POTENTIAL to earn more is greater. Nothing more, nothing less. If any University of Phoenix counselor tells you otherwise, they are doing you a disservice and should not be in the educational field.

I always struggled with the term counselor in the post-secondary educational industry. The term has a loose attachement to those positions of Finance, Enrollment, and Academics at the University of Phoenix. The use of the term gives a false sense of security to current and future students that they are being counseled by professionals. The more appropriate term would be Representative or Advisor. The Representive or Advisor terms are commonly used by traditional schools, colleges, and universities. In fact, individuals in Finance, Admissions, and Academic positions are representatives of the educational institution and not professional counselors. Professional counselors require a minimum of a graduate degree and/or a license. In the case of the University of Phoenix, none of the so-called counselor positions require an advanced degree or licensing. As a result of this false sense of security, the University of Phoenix purposely built an effective business strategy by creating position titles that dupe current and potential students into believing that they are receiving professional counseling services.

In addition, the University of Phoenix DOES NOT require a degree to be an Enrollment Counselor. Therefore, someone without a college degree can obtain a professional title such as counselor. During my employment with the University of Phoenix, I discovered that many Enrollment Counselor's ($35K starting salary) where making up to $15, 000 dollars more a year than I was as an Academic Counselor ($35K starting salary) which required a degree. In some cases, Enrollment Counselors have made more than $100, 000 dollars a year and without a degree. Does anyone see the irony? Due to this irony, I struggled every day with the contradictions between my personal values and ethics and those of the University of Phoenix in advising my students. I also became disenchanted with the institution because of its value placed on performance for those without degrees in comparison to those with degrees.

Ask yourself this question, how can I attend a university where the person enrolling me does not have a degree and makes considerably more money than an Academic Counselor which requires a degree?

One of the most effective strategies Enrollment Counselors use is informing the student that they can make more money with a degree than without a degree. How is that ethical? Especially when the university itself pays individuals without degrees more than those with degrees. In addition, the potential student has Enrollment Counselors telling them how important it is to have a degree when those individuals do not have a degree. Today, I still struggle with these concepts and the University of Phoenix pay structure.

I will never forget my introduction to the former Apollo Group, Inc. President, Brian Mueller, who now is the President of Grand Canyon University. After completing my initial training, Mr. Mueller gave a welcome speech which turned out to be more of a motivational, sales pitch for the university. A very bright, well-spoken man, Mr. Mueller mentioned one particular Enrollment Counselor who started at the University of Phoenix. He mentioned that she was making over 6 figures within a year. At first I was impressed; however, after about 3 months of working on the "floor" I eventually realized the primary motivation and intention of Mr. Mueller and Apollo Group. MONEY.

The University of Phoenix and its sister schools have perfected a cloaking device that allows itself to offer a valuable commodity to the public with little or no value in an effort to capitalize and profiteer from those who have few choices and resources to pursue an education elsewhere. The institution has caused more harm than good to the educational industry. Yet, the institution continues to prey on those who have no other options.

Just some more information for you Amanda. I do want to address your concerns about how to leave the university.

1. Finish your class. DO NOT drop.

2. DO NOT spend your excess fund check. If you have a balance, leave it on account.

3. DO NOT hesitate to contact another college and start the enrollment process. Other institutions have better equiped counselors/advisors/representatives that actually want to help you. If online is your only alternative, consider JUCO and career schools that have online classes. Also, be mindful of the tuition rates, accreditations, and career services offered after you graduate. Its all about ROI (return on investment).

4. Request an Official Withdrawal Form. Sign, date, and FAX it to your Academic Counselor or contact University Services. I would recommend contacting University Services and faxing it to the number they provide you. If you fax it to an Academic Counselor, it may never get faxed into the system because once it is in your records its official. Otherwise, the Academic, Finance, and Enrollment counselors can and will continue to hound you about continuiing or returning to class. MAKE SURE YOU GET CONFIRMATION that the Official Withdrawal Form has been received. Confirmation email would work, if you can get it.

5. Make sure all your accounts are in good standing. If you follow these 4 steps, you should be free and clear to move on with your education at another institution.

6. Avoid further contact with any University of Phoenix representative.

Hope this helps.

I am writing to voice my complaint loudly. In one of my previous courses, I was dinged for plagiarism in Week 1 and in Week 2. While i realize this is bad and not the face that UOP needs, it was a big mistake. I was dealing with the death of my father and working two jobs. I was overly stressed and was not making sound judgement calls. I do feel that receiving an F on both assignments was fair, but they continued to let me take remainder of course; although the plagiarism occurred during week 1 and 2. I was obviously working remotely so I did not get the warning message from Week one until far into Week 2. How fair was that? I tried to resubmit week 2 work as I had accidentally turned in wrong work. Now I was told not to fight ethics board and to move on. I am not taking that chance. I wasn't my grade back because this is not who i am. I am a good student who messed up. zoopiegbv2-@ghotmail.com

I am a student who withdrew from UOP last week but according to their website I withdrew in Sept. My account showed a credit balance until today and now I owe them 1745.00 for the last class I took. Today they sent back the subsidized loan and the unsubsidized is scheduled to come in on Nov 19, 2010. Can the balance I owe be deducted from the unsubsidized 3, 000.00 even though I have withdrawn or will I have to pay out of pocket? I have enrolled at a new school for January. Is there anyone who can answer this question for me so that I can stop worrying about it. I have been getting the run around from my academic advisor since the end of September.

Filing a grievance with EEOC was a correct decision. My client was an employee at the Southern Arizona Campus. He enjoyed his job and was doing well. Shortly after he returned from a FMLA approved abscence the workplace environment noticable changed. While all this has been unsettleing for the family they were willing to move past it quietly. But because of one managers persistance on retaliation the employee felt forced to seek help. Nice management style UOP.

A friend was "let go" from the Southern Arizona Campus after working as an Enrollment Counselor for almost two years. He enjoyed working there and was shocked when the end came. It appears to me that the middle management team rule with emotions rather than facts.

UOP is also going against their own policy of not contesting unemployment benefits with this employee. They are fighting benefits that are less than a $100 a week. This is even low for UOP. Where is the campus director? Allowing this to go on while on his/her watch should be embarrassing.

It is a far better approach not to irritate a former employee, UOP.

Great report. Thank you for sharing. I worked for UOP for three years and suffered through COUNTLESS empty promises about pay and promotion. I, too, left the university over age discrimination and have filed a formal charge with the EEOC and they are moving forward with it. People half my age were getting promoted with as little as a high school diploma but they were attractive and young, so why not. I don't have to prove my position with the EEOC. All they have to do is look at the hiring/promotion numbers. Everyone I worked for was under 40, which is the protected class age. My manager, director and associate vice president were all under 40. Everytime I was skipped over for a promotion, the promoted person was under 40. Really not hard to see once you look. If anyone feels like UOP discriminates against age, sex, religion, race, they should go directly to the EEOC and file a charge. The more charges filed, the more UOP will understand that discrimination is simply not tolerated.

I would like to thank you for your post about withdrawing from class. My academic counselors switched my degree program without telling me now 2 years later and 16, 000 in debt I was going to school for somehting different. I waited until my classes were finished and made copies of all my accounts and other items that may be necessary down the road. I was also eligible for 10, 500 for a pell grant and I only got part of this the rest ( the fiancial aid counselor said it went on my account) but does not show. I already contacted the student aid and have to send them all my paperwork. I only had two blocks to go but decided it was not worth wasting $5-10, 000 more dollars for a degree I cannot use.

Thank you forposting ways to withdraw fromUOP. When I first started I was supposeto be in the medical billing program. The secondcounselorswitched this to Healthcare administrationwhich I didn't learn much more than I would of seeking information on the internet. I receive my associates degree in Healthcare Administration in April, but itis not what I signed up for. Then Ireceived a Pell grant and only received part of the funds and my counselor told me all of this was paid. Iamgoing to finish my degreebutam considering getting certified for medical billing at another school.

You say that if there is a credit balance on account at UOP or Axia College it should have been returned to the student? Their financial aid department is real slow and doesn't care about the funds they are to return to the student is this true?

Hi Stephen,

I was stunned by the degree of malpratice by UoP; however, not suprised. I am going through a horrible situation with them right now concernig financial aid and the fact it appears I was purposely enrolled in the wrong program. I was emphatic about being enrolled in the education program, however, my enrrolemnt counselor purposely enrolled me in humanities. I had researched the Teach Grant Program and knew that I would qualify. I told her (Lisa Ulness) that loans were to be secondary. Now I am stuck with loans. I have been harassed, coerced, intimidated, screamed at until I had a complet breakdown because the financial aid person (Jonathan?) would not take "no" for an answer. I have the feeling that loans are more to their benefit than grants.

I have been in a state of deep depression for the past eight days, uncertain about my future, (Jonathan told me that he was in control of my education, and I would never receive one without his aid) and I feel like I am all alone in this situation. Can we bring a class action suit against them? Can we picket following the proper lawful procedure? I am willing to do anything within to scope of legality and morality. My intention is not to hurt anyone; I just want justice.

Thanks for your information. I wish I had known before June 30th, 2009.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] failure to release financial aid information

I have been requesting information from the University of Phoenix financial aid processing department for two months now. I have completed and faxed to them several FERPA forms in order to retrieve information consisting of my financial aid and loans. I provided them with a student verification form to complete and the first time it was sent to me by mail and e-mail filled out incorrectly. I was requested by a supervisor to re fax another FERPA form and student verification form to be completed and they would return it to me within tree to five days. When I returned the FERPA form asking it to be mailed to me, I also faxed a letter with it asking that due to my delay it be emailed to me, since I needed this information promptly. I was informed by two supervisors that it was okay as long as it was e-mailed to the e-mail address that the school had on file for me. I also stated in this letter the supervisors I spoke to the wit I have endured, the exact information I was seeking for on the form and for the school year. Not to mention I even sent faxed to them the error copy of the sudent verification form. Since this has been done I have not received anything back. I have even contacted them on many occassions trying to find out whats the delay. My financial aid officer has even tried contacting them for me as well and the third party I have been trying to supply this information to for two months now. They have been very unprofessional and uncooperative. They are now stating that it has been e-mailed and mailed to me but yet I have not received it. I want to add again that the final FERPA form I faxed, I asked for it to be mailed. It has now been another month. I and my financial and third party are becoming very drained and stressed with this situation. I want to add that the information I am requesting is for emergency housing so that I may continue to attend school. I am really needing to have someone contact me regarding this issue and investigate. Thank you

I as of Nov 11 2014 have been going back and forth with this schools financial aid department. I am 80percent covered by The Va and for the 20percent I am applying for financial aid. I have completed one class they have collected 80percent from my Va benefits. I have sent in several sets of paperwork. The issue seems to be my Way state drivers license twice now they have said its not excepted, because I am no longer military and my license say military. Its not for myself but because my spouse is active duty.I don't understand why is that such an issue. Here it is almost 3months and I'm not enrolled in any classes and my financial advisor never seems to know what's going on with my process. At this point I really need to look for a school that don't take your moneythen cconstantly look for reasons to not pay you.Wonder if I'll be penalized for applying elsewhere .

Yes, I am also disappointed with the University of Phoenix's Financial Aid process. Though they've improved significantly with the theoretical part and course rubrics, they need to get better with handling students financial aid money/refunds. Financial Aid (loans) are available, as the studentloans.gov website indicates, for dependent care expenses, housing, books, computers or whatever resources deemed appropriately to help one get through school. If I was counting on my refund to be available when I needed it to, and was waiting to assist me with housing costs, I'd be on the streets. How can a student study effectively, when they try to plan to receive their reimbursement funds, around the trying to successfully complete courses, etc? The refund processing time is ridiculous! Extreme delays! And the thing that gets me the most is that they "literally HOUND" you to enroll in their programs and make sure they literally walk you through the financial aid process; however, when it comes to meeting your needs and expectations once you get in their school, you encounter a whole different ballgame. Its like having an insurance company who's happy and doesn't mind taking your premiums; but when its time to pay out, everybody wants to give you a hassle and go AWOL/missing. WOW! There ought to be a law. I may write to the US Department of Education about this. Its a shame.

I requested an increase to my loans of $1132. The $1132 was only in increase to my orginal loans. $561 (of the $1132) scheduled 12/28/12, original loan and grant (can't remember how much, will have to check my disbursement letter) scheduled 2/22/13, and $561 (the remaining part of the $1132) scheduled 03/29/13. I still have not recieved the 1st part of the $1132 which is $561. It posted on my student acct on 12/28/13 and was told to allow 14 days. It's way past that. Im being told by my FA advisor that it was re-evaluated and for some reason they did some kind of credit split (whatever that means) and it's delaying my aid until March and she's checking in to it. Seriously? March? I was scheduled for my orginal loans 2/22/13. I'm only waiting on the 1st half of my requested loan increase which was suppose to have been disbursed 12/28/12. I've never had any issues before receiving my financial aid and now Im beginning to regret asking for an increase because it seems like everything just went wrong. Im just confused because I dont understand the problem (thinking increasing my loans was a simple request) and frustrated about the whole situation. I need a better understanding of whats going on and I need for someone to correct the issue. Why does it feel like Im being punish when I have been doing everything Im suppose to do? Can anyone help me other then my FA Advisor? Dont get me wrong, Im not upset with her because it may not be her fault although, I had no problems with my old FA Advisor or receiving my aid. Asking for help seemed to only caused me more problems and now Im getting the run-around.

I just started a UOP and I was wondering how long it would take for me to recieve my financial aid award letter nut from the looks of it I will be waiting for ever. I am really waiting on my refund does anyone know how long thats going to take. OIf it takes over two months for my award letter to kick in then it'll probably take longer for my refund to be given back to me.

I have been an UOP student for almost a year and a half now and have had nothing but problems with the financial aid department. I have been overly thrilled with all my courses however. I receive 100% tuition assistance to pay for my classes since I am military but only up to $4500 a year which does not cover all my classes so I have been applying for pell grants as well. The first time I applied was April of 2011, I finally received the excess funds (which was all of it that time) in September after being told numerous different reasons for the hold up and finally calling the call center myself & learning that my financial counselor had been lying to me. Then I applied for the new year on August 1st and have been fighting for that one ever since because I filed my taxes married filing separate and as head of household. My husband and I were separated for more than 6 mths and in different countries...I met all the filing requirements. Anyway so they requested that I send in a statement from the IRS or a professional tax preparer stating that I filed correctly. I filed my own taxes so I was my own tax preparer and I called the IRS and they said they had never heard of such a request and couldn't do a statement for me but gave me the reference regulation and even said well we accepted it didn't we... So I typed up a MFR with the regulation requirements and how I met each one. I then went to the legal office on base and had a LAWYER who is also a certified public accountant and in charge of the base tax office do a letter for me. I sent all this in and they replied with " student sent in letter, military person sent in letter, neither are acceptable. Need statement from professional tax preparer". My financial counselor (who just changed after the lying one went on maternity leave) told me I had to have this before I could start my next class (next week) so I very professionally told them to go screw themselves and I would gladly take my education elsewhere.

I graduated in September 2011 from the University of Phoenix, and in November 2011 they are still requesting money from my studenet loan company and grants, even though I am enrolled in another college. Now, after I have called and emailed financial managers, I am told "they are looking into it". What BS! I will never recommend this "rip off college" to anyone! I just wish I knew then what I know now about this place!

I have been taking online classes since October 24 of this year and every time I contact my financial aid advisor I get the run around they tell you this and that and it is really sad to say that this school sucks and I ahte that I even applied to it. I recently found out today that my financial aid has not been awarded yet, and that my financial aid advisor just sent off my papers, so they say. I fcompleted my financial aid, admissions, transcripts have been received and credits have been transferred since Sept 20. So why is it that I am able to attend classes with no aid. Can someone tell me the best way to handle this issue.

I've been trying to get my financial aid processed since Aug. of 2010 and its almost March 2011. They keep telling me my academic counselor has not built my schedule and all kinds of other crap. They even sent me a award letter and then told me that its not valid they need to go back and re-calculate some things. I WOULDNT RECCOMMEND this school to anyone and I dont think they should allow people to start classes until they get their funds in order because I feel like I'm doing my finance counselors job.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] financial officers and practices

I am very unhappy with the way the UoP has treated me in regards to my financial officer.
The original officer I was assigned seemed knowledgeable enough, but failed to tell me verbally that my aid would not cover the cost of my 4th and 8th classes. If I had been told this (although it is in the very small print of my contract), I would have kept shopping around for schools. Unfortunately I was laid off the third week into my first five week online class. My financial advisor was then removed from my case and I was assigned someone who refuses to return calls, doesn't really seem to want to help, and won't provide me with my options. I am going to contact my lender and see what recourse I have to completely get out of my contract altogether, as I really feel like UoP has cheated me.

Please let me know what happened with this. I am currently going through the same thing with UOP/Axia. My financial advisor was Veronica and left me in the wind. When I got a new financial advisor, she just wanted money out of my pocket with no explantion to what really was wrong and now I have withdrawn and the money they want is higher. If anyone knows of any lawsuit regarding this University, please let me know so I can join the band wagon thanks smtait2009@yahoo.com

I am very unhappy with the financial officers as well. I am getting a run around from that department as far as receiving information for myself and financial aid from school. I sent of a FERPA Release form and a form to be completed of a student verification and financial aid to them and they sent it back incorrectly the first time and then had me resend the information only to now deny me the information requested. Would someone please respond to this e-mail and tell me where I can make a complaint and to whom about their misconduct. You can e-mail me at playette1play@aol.com Thank you,

University of Phoenix [UOPX] f.aid

Wow... First of let me say yes, my advisor is good. He keeps in contact etc.- but... There financial aid counselors are horrible... They are true blue sales men. Theyhave miss informed me about my loans - which I am waiting for to purchase a new battery for my laptop and other tools I need - more paper, pens, printer ink, etc. They have misinformed me under informed me and I am pissed. I got the corporate office of dispute number about an hour ago, but they are closed now in their time zone. I will however call first thing in the morning. If this issue is not resolved I will be dropping my courses. I do not like for people to lie to me. Not only did my fa counselor lie - his supervisor did as well. Watch out for them and your money! Oh, my first 2 classes books are suppose to be free - as I signed a waiver. I'll be watching for that too!

Hi madstudent1,
What is the current status of you UoP experience now? Did you spend the leftover money they sent you? I did, and now they called two months later and told me I should have never spent. They want it back because I don't have enough financical aid money, which they neglected to tell me when my loan was approved.

Liars, scammers, cheaters, thiefs. I am beginning to think they are part of the "Stepford" cloning experience. These people cannot be human! Did you read about the lady with cancer? I am appalled! But then, I am human.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] financial aid and all advisors

I had signed up with university of phoenix in june of 2009, i was told dont worry about anything financially that for sure i would be eligible for financial aid and that i am already eligible. So i started class and in my first week financial aid is giving me crap about my taxes and my marital status. I use to live in kansas where common law was recognized and now i moved to california and california has to recognize it. But that [censored] financial aid dept for university of phoenix said it does not and that i had to correct my taxes which i filed correctly. They said they will never accept me for financial aid until i file a 1040x and i emailed my "finance advisor" which he didnt do crap for me. Told him i filed correctly and i have nothing to fix and he said well sorry if you can not get financial aid then you cant continue school. I was like what the hell. . . Then he told me i owe for the two weeks of school that i attended online (Axia online) . So now i owe 344. 50 for something i was told not to worry and i was already approved by my enrollment counselor which was some young kid. I should of known when i met him because he was like a sales person if anything ! So i basically signed up to get a bill "for free"" yippie for me ! Anybody thinking about signing up with university of phoenix please do not they are scam artists and frauds ! They will lie straight to your face, rushing you to sign up. And when you sign up they dont bother with you anymore ! So please please please do not sign up with university of phoenix. . . Of course unless you want a free bill to pay !

Recently I became a student at the Axia University and later found that I was trapped inside of a "slavery"campus. I would never have receive breaks and always had to report to class no mattere what. The school is three credit hours 1, 034 dollars per three credit hours, that means when I graduate I am going to the old the "mandortory student loans" "Sallie Mae" over 30, 000 dollars. That is only for an Associate Degree I am trapped inside this horrible nightmare can someone help to get out!

Well, it seems to me unfortunate that so many individuals have had bad experiences from the University of Phoenix. Although I have never attended, nor do I plan to attend the University of Phoenix, it is apparent that many have had similar financial disputes with the University, and as an end result, have taken a grievous loss. While others have had good experiences with the University, it is also evident these individuals are in no way empathetic toward those who have not shared the same wonderful experiences. In many ways, the feelings, or lack thereof from these individuals, is a reflection of the indecorous nature of the University staff.

While the University affords seemingly good opportunities, those who are in unfortunate financial circumstances are left out to dry. Why is it that our educational institutions care less about educating, and are more concerned about the profits they rake in? It is no wonder we ranked 25th in Math, 17th in Science, and 14th in Reading out of 34 countries. The very individuals who need a chance to receive a proper education are being left behind. I would like to express my deepest condolences to those who have been failed by the education system. They have not only failed you, but have also failed our Country, by allowing this nation to fall behind.

Please, for those of you, who have been down on your luck, do not be disparaged! If you want to change the system then you have to become a part of it. So, it is my hope that all of you persevere in your endeavors to be the best that you can be. On that day when you become a part of that system, which has kept you down for so long, it will be up to you to recognize and correct its inherent fallacies. It is up to you to change the system from the inside out, so there is not another starving mind being refused the same opportunities afforded to those of great wealth, or a higher social status! We must unite as one nation, under God!

In closing, I would like for those reading this post to reflect on the words spoken by a man who changed a corrupt system for the betterment of society.

"A society governed in terms of double standards is self- destructive".
- Mahatma Gandhi

I would have to agree that the UOP is really a mess, I am currently enrolled and they gave me such a hard time. It seemed like the enrollment advisor called me everday until they finally convinced me that finacially I would be covered including my discount I would get. Well on the first block of classes and I had the hardest time because my wife and I been separated for the past two years but on the finanical aid they only ask if you are married, divorced, or single, so I was neither one because techinally we ar still married..little did I know that that would give me the blues, so I had to go to my taxpreparer and explained to them because UOP said I did my taxes incorrectly I filed single/head of household. Finally after sending a letter, and my taxpreparer explaining they gave me the approval. Here in Louisiana they do not have legally separated. So I received first dismurment and that took it all because it paid for 4 classes, now recentlty has of 6-24-11 I was suppose to have a some coming back to me (which I was going to use to buy me another laptop for school). My finance advisor held it for the next block (8/14/11) because he failed to register me for the next finanacial aid...I had to find out when I called the school, he wasnt going to even call me and tell me nothing. When he thought I was going to have to pay the school he called me every single day and constantly sent emails. I am starting to look at transferring to another school that is closer to home that offers online.

I signed up around August 2009, was told i can sign up to get finacial help to pay for the entire schooling online that was around 15 grand or something, then they were to send me 2 different disembursement checks while i was doing this online to help me pay for anything i needed.Phone mins for my cell phone, a computer if i needed that, anything basically so i can take care of things to do the classes online.I did get my first check almost a month after i started classes. The next check i recieved in December. I was told if i drop out anytime i would have to pay back those 2 checks that were deposited into my bank. Or if i didnt pass a class i would end up having to pay to retake that class.WEll i was working days and nites taking care of my kids and everything else, doing my class work online and doing well actually better than i ever did in school 20yrs ago. Then around April 2010 i had the 2 classes for the 9 wks like we have been doing how it changed every 9 wks, so one class happend to be Intermediate Alegbra. Now for one im no good at Math period! and two we had choices in high school to sign up for algebra if we wanted, well of course i wasnt about to do that. So around this 4th wk of this class online i was already at a C-, so this discouraged me, and i asked counselors what to do and how get help. The teacher for this class suggested i take a class outside of the home.I was like wow seriously! seems how i already worked as much as i did, how could i find time to pay for a class to train me better in algebra? so with very little help or anything positive i gave up and quit. The status is i am withdrawn from Axia since May 2010. But recently this week, , [protected] i had a deposit of over $2000 put into my savings account for me from the ACH/Appollo which was how the checks before were deposited and who they came from.I have been getting letters since i quit last May from Nelnet the place i guess they sign you up with to repay the loans. They sent me one the other day saying i had to pay them and there was interest being added on seems how i havent attempted anything.Kinda hard to do now since i had to quit my job Feb 2011. So not sure how there site says something as far as getting assistance or something to make a payment, change your repayment option, apply for a deferment or forbearance, and much more! And according to that site i now owe over $800.Which is going to be impossible to pay right now, when im barely making it month to month on hardly nothing and being a single parent def not easy.So has this happend to anyone? Im not sure why Phoenix would put the deposit in my savings account of that high amount knowing I havent been online and they have me as a withdraw status since May 2010. The bank teller told me at first i could just take it out seems how its good, and if the school made a mistake thats on them. But it would be my fault im sure if i even touched that money and id prob be the one thrown in jail or having to pay back more than i already owe.Any opinions out there what to do? ive contacted all i can about this and only have heard from Nelnet but not Phoenix if this is there actually mess up.

The University of Phoenix is a joke. I was having a smooth ride until I was appoved for a grant. Once approved I was "randomly selected" for an audit and the school lessened my grant amount which wasn't much to complain about but then some four months later when it still was in the "certification" process I was told that I would have to pay out of pocket until the grant was certified and I have nothing but A's and B's. If that wasn't enough, I had a family trajedy and emailed my academic advisor for over a month, with no response, to request my fourth set of classes be pushed out for the maximum time allowed. Well when arguing about my government approved grant that they still hadn't given me, I was told my advisor wasn't responding because she was no longer my advisor and neither the old advisor nor the new one kept me abreast of the situation. I was even told the new advisor was an "asset to my graduation team" when she did not even take the time to call or email me to let me know who she was and that she would be my advisor. I found all this out the Friday before the classes were to start and conveniently enough I could not address the issue with anyone prior to that Monday. They suck!

ALL schools with online classes charge more for internet courses. ALL of them. Plus, a degree is a degree from an accredited university, which I may add, the University of Phoenix is. When a person is taking online classes, it is for the convenience of being able to take these classes at basically your own pace. If you want convenience, you have to pay for it. Plus, a friend of mine is taking classes through Vatterot college, here in Joplin, MO and she too is going to wind up owing 30, 000 for her associate's degree. While it is an outstanding amount of money, it is not impossible to pay back, and it is definately worth it. There is no question about whether I feel it is worth it to pay back that kind of money or not, because I do. A good education, such as the one I am receiving from Phoenix, is priceless.

I have to agree with him about getting the run around with financial aid. I too had to file a 1040x when I was told by the government that I filed correctly. However, instead of complaining and being angry about it, I filed it. I didn't even have to wait until I received the official copy of it, all I had to do was send in the same form to the college that I sent into the IRS. (Who, by the way, informed the school that I had filed correctly.) I love the University of Phoenix, with the exception of my financial aid. I am still getting the run around about my refund, which really makes me angry, and I had a twisted financial aid advisor at first. Now, I have a good one who has done in less than one week, what it took the previous one since April to do. My teachers are excellent, and now, so are all my advisors.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] lack of credibility

I can only enourage anyone thinking about attending the University of Phoenix to run as fast as you can away from doing so. After completing my MBA/Marketing with UOP I decided to continue with a Masters of Public Administration. I went through the process of re-enrolling and was told that my paperwork for the MBA/Marketing would cover my being certified for the MMPBL. I started my first class in the MMPBL, on May 26th and never did hear anything from the fianncial counselor about when my certification process was going to be completed and when I could receive my financial aid funding. Until one day two weeks into the class, I received a phone call that my file had a "pending" status because "there were conflicting numbers on my 2007 Federal Tax Return" and that I needed to get a Federal Tax Return Transcript from the IRS and fax it to UOP to remove the pending status. Mind you that this was the very same Tax Return that they used to certifiy me in 2007! I complied and got the transcript, scanned and emailed as attachment the same day requested. The next day I received a call from my financial advisor apologizing to me because research had made a mistake and that the tax return was fine! I was so stressed out that I thought I was going to have a heart attack! But wait --- it gets better! The next day I receive a call from the Sr. Financial Advisor UOP ( mind you I am now in my fifth week of class) who told me "I am so sorry, you are not eligible for any financial aid funds for they were allocated during the time period you were completing your MBA/Marketing and this is all UOP's fault and we sincerely apologize."

I sat at my desk listening to this incompetent twit and thought told him that because of his lack of leadership and knowing what is going on with his staff --- I am not in a financial crisis and I expect a formal letter of apology from him stating the facts as they happen and stating UOP's wrong doing. I told him that he broke not only the bond of trust --- he also ruined my credibility. I told him that I wanted out of the UOP without any financial responsibility. I dropped my class and I am until the day I die spread the message that if you play with the incompetents at UOP then you will soon become one. Stay clear of UOP and run towards another online university that believes in treating students with dignity, honor and sees us as human beings. AMEN!

Ok,

I am not disagreeing exactly but want to offer another perspective, if I may. I am wondering if any of the posters here were specifically told by their employer that UoP degrees really don't have credibility with them. In my experience, short of Ivy League big boys, an MBA or other Masters plus degree doesn't hold much wait without the corresponding experience that goes with it. I have a B & M undergrad, and an MBA and MA from different online schools and just started my PhD with still a different online university. I have over 15 years of experience to back up my education and have yet to have any challenges getting a six-figure job.

I can only imagine the frustration of busting your behind and blowing the budget to get that little piece of paper, but it is what you do with the knowledge in the YEARS after that will better secure your future. I think someone gave you bad data as it relates to expectations. In this economy that MBA may be exactly what allows the the entry level job where those with only a B.S. may be left hangin.'

Even though no one has asked for advice, I would offer it anyway from this old geiser; be patient, be deliberate with your job search and goals, and put in the work and time towards your dreams and enjoy the journey.

May God Bless you and your situation and lead you down the right path.

Sincerely,

Dustin Kennedy

I totally agree, run as far away from the University of Phoenix as you can. Their MBA has no credibility and will not help you with your career. I "graduated" with my so called MBA almost 4 years ago. I was laid off from a management position with a large corporation. Now even with this lovely degree that was supposed to earn me a higher level position is a joke. I have over 100K in student loan debt because I had no help to pay for my education, yet the job I am doing is an entry level position that barely pays enough to make the monthly rent. The MBA from Phoenix has NO credibility and will NOT help you in your career.

@cookie monster- I find your remarks facetious. I guess you can't read or you found it a little arduous to comprehend the fact that I specifically wrote:
And those idiots that post just to argue and act like dumb ###, I don't give a ### what you say or think, go do something else with all your free time.

And it had nothing to do with Math & Grammar, so maybe "you" should be the one that needs to go to school. Stop taking all those drugs and maybe you could actually learn something. You use one word that you obviously had to look up, and have the nerve to say I have subpar English? "lol...Unreal "what ever!"

You don't have a clue, so take your ungainly, uneducated ### ### outta here.

I have an associates in Business from Axia U of P. No job... They seemingly take more out than you actually need for school driving up the cost of my loans to a ridiculous amount. The school is not reputable so I cannot get a job in business with this degree and they said they would help me find a job and never even offered help. Also, one of the teachers was a total creep and began emailing my personal email address in a pretty unprofessional way. I was not happy with the level of education and feel as if I learned very little to no practical skills in the degree I actually completed. I am in.

I was out of work and hope when I answered a questionnaire, within 24 hours I was enrolled as an UoP student. Sure they will give you "living" money, buy want to take it back. I was issued a "loan" for which they took half. At 55 and having graduated hs in 1978 (yes, before the onslaught of the computer age), I deeply struggled to not only do well in class, but also to teach myself computer. It really hurt when a "teacher" asked what was I doing in college if i couldn't do computer skills, that was the downfall of my extended education. I would have loved to finish up my last 2 classes, one Algebra (I didn't have to take it in hs, but in college I had to take 3 of them, , , , agh!), and one psychology class. Now I find harassing emails, and threats of court interference. The field I wanted was not available (animal husbandry), so I opted for Hospitality, Tourism and Travel, which I enjoyed. I have asked for assistance, now I really need the help with the student "loans" part, I feel I was lied to and tricked into signing my life away. HELP! please!

I as well have been swindled by UoP. When they called me and asked me if I would be interested in attending, I thought it would be a good idea if I did not have a financial hardship as I was a single Mother of 3 and taking care of 2 other children at the time. The person assured me that I would not have anything to worry about it would all be paid for and I would not have to pay anything back. Two months later he was gone and someone else was in his place. Several counselors and courses later, I am being told I have financial paperwork that needs to be completed. I would not sign anything. I knew something was wrong when all the people kept changing. All of a sudden I was not eligible for any grants and I could not continue with school under any type of loan, working only part time. Now I owe the Government about $10, 000 and how am I supposed to pay that back?
I am willing to be a part of this suit.

a person has to understand, if you receive grants, you have to fulfill those grant requirements or otherwise, the school has to return those grant funds back to the dept. of education. i have been with the UOP for over two years and have never encountered a problem financially. If you quit before requirements are met, the school HAS to return the money, it is in the financial agreement. If you have attended, didn't meet the requirements, you have to pay for the material and the instructor that covered and coached during those times you were enrolled. I am no employee of UOP but transitioning from my associates to my bachelors, I could not be happier.

how can a person be covered 100% by grants when the maximum the dept. of education will grant is $5, 500? When I enrolled, tuition was $8, 840. Seriously, we cannot expect the government to pay for everything...it would be nice, but there are so many students or even potential students that do not do their research and stay-on-top of their financial information. The loans departments, even before the government took them over, sent out paperwork and statements letting each student know what was going to the school and what should be going to yourself. Seriously, you obviously did not read the paperwork because if you had, you would have understood that loans were being taken out. If you saw the statements and had questions, the loan company, such as sallie mae, etc, has their number listed. I honestly do not feel sorry for people that enroll in school and end up with debt. I think most are upset individuals that chose school and it wasn't the right time or understanding. I have received a statement even from the government explaining what is going in and out concerning my name. if you didnt take the time to review it, thats your problem. if you didnt take the time to ask questions or call, once again, still your problem. quit complaining, be pro-active, and ensure that you protect yourself, against anything in today's world and economy!

Hi my name is Dawn, I was told when i signed up for the Axia University of Phoenix that i did not need to take out a loan because they walked me through the Obama single mothers go back to school grant for 10, 000. I had qualified and started school. Then about 2 months later i started getting notices in mail for money owed. I talked to councelor who said the grant would take care of it. Then i got more notices at the 6 month mark. Finally after one hour of talking to councelor he said i was working off of a stafford loan. I quit immediately. Now i am in Debt for over five thousand dollars for 6 months of online school. For some reason my grant was audited and i lost it so THEY signed me up for a loan... I made it clear that i could not afford a loan nor did i want one. Now because i am broke i can not seek action against them for the loan they took out for me. I am a single mom out of work and they fooled me for over five thousand dollars.

I want to put my name on it as well. They did this to me.I was enrolled in 2008. I was supposed to be covered 100% by loans and grants. Most by the Pell Grant and the balance by my Indian tribe (Cherokee). That is what they told me at enrollment. Then after a year of attending I got a bill for 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS! I am disabled and my total disability income is 1, 200.00 per month half of which goes to rent...I told them up front I couldn't afford any out of pocket expenses. I NEVER pay blackmail and that is what I feel like this. Now they are hounding my parents and my friends trying to track me down. They have to find me and then haul me to court and even then they won't get a dime. I will go to jail before I pay the crooks.

I've read several posts that say they are $30, 000 in debt. Was this for a two year degree? If so how were you able to take out that much student loan? The Feds have limits to how much you can borrow based on your year in school. In other words first year students can only borrow $9500; second year $10, 500; third year $11, 500; fourth year $12, 500. The other question I have is about PELL grants. Your counselors cannot tell you what you qualify for, only FASFA can tell you that and it is based on your prior year taxes, dependents, etc., for them to determine whether you qualify. The max amount you can receive is $5550.00. If you don't agree with the amount awarded you can ask the college for a Professional Judgment. Granted these usually take a while to get an answer, but under extenuating circumstances they can award you the full grant. This grant, if you qualify is not repaid. The student loan, however is and only after you complete and start a job. I personally never take anyone's word on financial matters of this sort without checking it out. Start by going to FASFA's website. Another question I have is about credit transfers. No matter what college you attend, not all credits will transfer. A large majority will, but that is why you send a transcript to receiving college and determine which ones will and won't. Talk to the counselors, if you are not satisfied with their answers kick it up to a supervisor or call the dean of admissions. There is always someone higher up and they will correct admissions counselors. If it sounds too good (Pell grant will cover costs) then check it out.

Greetings all, just about every horror story on the web about UOP has happened to me and my question is when is a law firm going to take action? I have received many emails form investigative staff claiming to work for a legal firm against UOP only to find out they are UOP spies so be careful what email you answer. This is sad that UOP need to go to all this trouble to cover their butts since most of UOP staff was instructed to not leave a paper trail that could lead back to UOP. In other word, if you asked a question via email, you received a call for UOP staff. Unknown to UOP was calls were recorded thus creating evidence. In any event, if UOP goes to all this trouble to deflect blame, it only means one thing, they are guilty. I am ready to jump on the class action lawsuit band wagon any time law firms. Do not email me unless you represent a law firm against UOP,

University of Phoenix [UOPX] false advising sent to collections

I enrolled in University of Phoenix In June 2005 I drop in January 2007 when I found out that my enrolledment councelor gave me and multiple students false advising about gratuating from college. Dave said we would finish college in 2yrs and I would get my Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice but it was all a lie. They just wanted to enroll students and rip them off! I think that is one of the worse colleges ever. All they do is lie and get your hopes up. After I drop my class they are billing me for it even though I din't attend and now when I am trying to go to a new college they won't give me my transcript since it's on hold because it's in collections. I don't know how they expect us to pay for a class which we never even took. University of Phoenix is a rip off. Who ever has probles with them should contact the Better Bussiness Bureau [protected] or their website www.bbb.org

Are you serious. Let me just say this... you DROPPED your classes and are shocked there is a hold on your transcripts and are billed from classes that you DROPPED. Hmm. Weird how that works. Now, you are filing a law suit because you did not graduate in 2 years? Did you have any credits when you started? I mean does ANYONE really think it is possible to EARN 120 credits for an ACCREDITTED degree in 2 years. I am sure your lawsuit will be thrown out.

Why don't people think about THEIR own part in their complaint.
