I would like to raise a concern I observed while visiting the Checkers store at Seadoone Mall in Amanzimtoti.
I am an Indian and took my elderly mum that resides in Amanzimtoti to do some Christmas shopping. I don't live in KZN but the Northwest Province. I was extremely upset to sense subtle discrimination inside your store. Whether it was gross or subtle it makes for a very unpleasant experience and should have zero tolerance in society in South Africa.
Such behaviour indicates a social issue within this town because I picked up the same vibe even inside the carpark as well as at a restaurant chain. When such issues are not reported and corrected it causes major problems with social division and unrest in this country.
I kindly request that Shoprite Checkers investigate this store from Senior Management down to floor level because it appears that senior staff maybe encouraging such behaviour leading to arrogance amongst their staff, so they think such behaviour is acceptable. Is there a policy in place and are staff trained and made aware that racial intolerance whether gross or subtle is not the standard within Shoprite stores and that disciplinary steps will be taken for deviation from such standards.
As a customer I can only raise the concern but not police and enforce store policies regarding social conduct and etiquette towards customers.
Desired outcome: Kindly look at staff training and have a policing mechanism in place to curb unwanted racist behaviour.
