Sleep Number 20 year warranty

I bought a sleep number bed about 8 years ago, we loved the bed and promoted it to everyone that was looking for a new mattress, We noticed a problem with the mattress and called the company, we were told that there was a 20 year warranty when we bought it, the problem was a defect in the mattress but the company wants to charge us almost $500 to replace the defected parts! We paid $2800 for the bed 8 years ago, they want us to pay for the replacement parts of their defected bed! The bed is wonderful until something happens to it and the company wants to charge you to have it repaired, I won't be buying another sleep number bed!

Sleep Number poor product severe back pain

My husband and I bought a select comfort bed in 1998. The bed was fine for about a year or two then it started to have problems keeping air in the chambers especially my husbands side. The center began to sink leaving no support. Trying to pump more air into it did not help the matter at all. Now both sides are sinking in the middle. We bought two pumps, the second one was refurbished costing 120.00. still problems. These beds are not cheap ours cost about 1500 dollars. We have a multitude of back problems that are costing us money, their customer service people are extremely rude they are ripping people off bigtime. NO MORE SELECT COMFORT BEDS FOR US.

Bought bed in Jan 2007. Since purchase have had to replace 2 pumps, 2 sleep chambers and placed some lift under mattress. Complete ripoff. Bed sleep experience has no consistency. The customer service people are like speaking to women from an alternate universe, they keep repeating over and over the same mantra of well sir we have done all we can to make your sleep experience as comfortable as possible. Basically their warranty is a hollow one that doesn't give two hoots if you are satisfied or not with the sleep experience. Don't buy one of these disasters!

This bed sucks! It sags terribly in the middle and doesn't hold air. I have tried calling and emailing these people to no avail. They tell me that because I am a single person that I should have bought the 'bed' design for a single person! PLEASE! there is supposedly a warranty, but they continue to say that I have to buy this, or buy that piece of extra foam - I hate this bed - unfortunately like the others that have commented here - it was so expensive, now I can afford another bed. DON'T BUY SELECT COMFORT!

I could not agree more! We purchased our bed less than 2 months ago, both long rails on the foundation buckled! My wife and I are normal sized people so no excuse. They set new standards for not caring about customers!

They must have reduced the quality. W e bought ours in the fall of 2002 and it has been trouble free. I did hear that they have reduced the qulaity of the bladders.

Sleep Number back problems

I agree with everyone the bed is a piece of crap. I spent $3500.00 on the bed 3 years age the middle sinks in the left remote doesn't show the numbers, my back problems are worse my husband can't sleep and is grochy all the time. I hope they take it off the market soon, I made the mistake of telling my grandparents that I loved the bed after owning it for 4 months so she bought one too, now she has major sleep and health problems .

Sleep Number poorly manufactured

I have read many complaints and having experienced there customer service first hand I would never purchase another bed. The problem I had is that the plastic crossmembers can and will warp, their customer service team will tell you it is normal but that does not mean much when you are constantly being pulled to the center of the bed. I over came this by using steel croos bars placed under each plastic cross beam, it cost me a couple of hundred dollars but it solved the problem. Don't bother calling the factory for reimbursement, they know they make a sub standard product and do not care to fix it or make it known in their stores.

I purchased this bed for about $3, 000 two years ago and already, the foam topper that sits above the air chamber has a large (approx. 10 inch long) hole in it and several smaller holes all over it. Also, the foam piece that sits between the two air chambers is compressed and so the middle of the bed has a sunken spot, which is very uncomforable. In addition, the display on the remote has already gone bad. First I went to the retail store to show them the pictures I took of the holes and brought the remote for replacement and they could not help me...they referred me to the 1800#. When I called, they would only cover a portion of the cost to replace these defective parts. I waited 7 weeks and the parts never showed up. When I finally called, they told me the order never processed and they had no reason why. They would not do anything to make up for this error, I asked if they could expedite the shipping, maybe 2-day FedEx and they said NO, they only use UPS Ground. I then asked if they could remove the $8.95 shipping cost from my bill, since in 7 weeks they never shipped it and they said NO. This is a terrible product with terrible customer service. When you open the bed and see the cheap parts (e.g., thin airy foam topper over vinyl air mattresses), it's clearly not worth the money. I do have pictures on my cell phone for proof if you need them. But I'm not sure what if anything can be done to help the situation. I just hope this spreads the word to others NOT to buy from this company.

BEWARE" Won't Buy I'am very disturb on the amount of bad customer service for the amount of money spent up to $8, 000.00 a bed up to $24, 000.00 a lady bought 3- and they want her to pay shipping on now 3- motors that have gone bad? Sleep Number awful product

This company should be put out of business. Please do not trouble yourself with this company. We purchased a Sleep Number 5000 on July 20, 2008 along with 2 pillows, and a mattress pad. We did not receive our bed until August 15, 2008. We were told delivery would be within 7 - 14 days. When they finally arrived to set up our bed, they informed me that the legs and headboard brackets were not on the truck, and that they would have to put the bed on the floor, and order them. Once they arrived, I would have to call customer service, and schedule a time to have them come install them. In the meantime, we had to use our new bed, on the floor, pushed away from the wall so the pump could be used. We have an infant, and it is very hard, and uncomfortable to get up and down off of a bed that is on the floor holding an infant. Especially for my husband who has had back surgery. So for the first 2 weeks, we were not feeling any benefits from this bed.
Finally on August 29th, they came back and put the legs on. That morning, in anticipation of the bed being taken apart anyway, I washed all the bedding, including the new mattress pad. After spending $299 on a mattress pad, you would expect it to last. Not so with this one. It started coming apart, and this was the first time it was washed. My husband called, and they agreed to replace it, but would not refund our money. I still have not opened the new one. I feel like we should receive a refund. I do not want to have to pay $299 for something that is so cheaply made and going to fall apart. All they will say is that they have a no refund policy.
Now, back to the bed problems. Even with the bed at the proper height, we have not been able to notice that it is helping. My husband has been waking up feeling worse than he did with our old innerspring mattress. When inflated all the way, it fills as if you are on a bubble of air. When you adjust it to find your sleep number, you fall into a hole, and can feel the plastic foundation below. You have to constantly adjust your sleep number to the position you are laying in. If you are laying on your side, and roll to your back, the number will change.
After deciding we did not want to pay all this money for such a horrible bed, we called to return it within our "30 Day Trial". Well folks, guess what. They never tell you that when they say the trial is risk free that they are full of it. When you call for a RMA number, you are informed that you are responsible for paying return shipping, or for paying for a pick up. And get this. They charged us $149 to deliver and set up, and take our old mattresses and dispose of them. They are charging us $200 to pick them up. OMG! Why is it more expensive for less work. I mean to pick up you don't have to dispose of my old mattresses again. I have looked through all of our paperwork, and nowhere does it state that we will be charged for return shipping should we decide during the trial that we do not like the bed. I did, however, finally find that statement. It was in the book that the delivery men left called "Welcome to Your Sleep Number Bed". Wasn't it nice of them to leave me the complete return policy, after delivery. We won't even go into the fine print on the warranty and how it is all prorated. So don't even let the 20 year warranty fool you.
Needless to say, I would not recommend anyone purchase a Sleep Number bed. Your money would be better spent on a traditional mattress.

I agree, we have the sleep number bed and the only way not to feel like your sleeping on a slope is to air the mattress up all the way. If you don't you feel as if you are both sinking towards the middle of the bed! (The outer foam sides are taller than the middle between the mattress) Don't waste your money(almost $1, 200 for ours) was wasted

Sleep Number dissatisfaction

We bought a Sleep Number bed back in 2003. I slept on it for about a year and a half but started to get back aches so I began sleeping in the extra bedroom on a regular bed. My husband still sleeps on the Sleep Number bed but is constantly complaining about back aches. I really regret buying the bed but we spent so much money on it that we feel we need to use it. Kinda silly huh. I wouldn't recommend this bed to anyone. It is starting to sag in the middle. Every once in a while I'll sleep on it with my husband but would get up in the middle of the night to go to the other bed since I'd wake up with backaches. This was one of the worst purchases I've every made. I won't make that mistake again.

I agree with maria. I have had this bed for 4 years now and hasnt helped my back, I still wake up with back pain. When I purchased this bed I was under the impression it had a 20 year warranty, but now since my had controller is loosing the numbers on the display I have to pay for a new pump because its all connected. I should have been more aware that the 20 year warranty is limited, for every year you own this bed after 2 years, a 4% reduction is what you get stuck with. I have a regular posturepedic queen bed in my guest bedroom and find it more comfortable. For the money you spend on this bed, you would think the warranty would be better. I wish I never bought this bed.

I am sorry to say that we also had a bad experience. Not only the product hasn't delivered the promised "no more back pains", but now after only 2 years and 2 months of purchase (we did not assemble it until a few months later when we moved), the pump has gone dead.
I can blame my back pain on little of exercising, bad posture... but we paid a very high price for a pump that stops working for no apparent reason after only 2 years of use. New buyers beware, the company only ocvers 98% of the cost of the pump in the first 2 years, after that only 72% ($114.83 withTx&S&H) with 4% reduction every year after.
Ohhh, wait! Maybe the pumps are not made for uncomfortable costumers who actually can't stick with only one pressure setting because the bed is not any more comfortable than any other.

Sleep Number not what you expect!

My then 80 yr old Mother and I went to the Mall to look at the beds.We laid down on several.Felt wonderfull! Mother ordered one for herself and one for me as a suprize.
Soon the two beds arrived. 2 boxes, about 2.5 high, 2.5 wide 3 ft long.Yup, the whole bed.
We opened one and out pops several strips of grey foam, what looks like 2 plastic floats for a pool, pump, controls, and a quilted mattress cover with a zipper. It was easy to put together as theres not much to it.The controls had no numbers, within a month the mattress sagged, the foam moved.( I weigh 132lbs, my lover weighs 150lbs)the foam down the center made a ridge.
It was a very expensive mistake.A queen size one in fact.
Notice the only reviews to read on site are the ones that sound like the company wrote them and most don't leave a name or its a first name?
Hint if you're buying a bed.Take a camera, unzip the mattress cover, take a picture of just how thick the cover is, the foam, everything!Remember, the box springs are not included.
Good luck

Purchased a Queen M7 mattress, it felt great at the store. We have been with the mattress for 3 days and it feels nothing like the one at the store. After a few hours of laying on it I start feeling flu like symptoms, I have been sleeping on the couch. I measured the mattress and it only measures 10 inches. As per the website is supposed to be 11 inches. I have seen a youtube video and it looks very different than the one I have. I have been trying to attach pictures but for some reason is not allowing me. I called customer service and she offered to send some padding . My concern is that, I am paying for a product that feels unlike the display at the store, makes me feel sick measures 10 inches high and it doesn't even feel like memory foam. It seems as false advertisement to me.

I agree with all the complaints i have read. Unfortunately my husband and I purchased our sleep number bed on 02/12/2010. I had called once to complain that my husbands side of the bed had also collapsed, he weighs 330 lbs. I was told they would send out side walls, which I never received. I hope these people sleep at night for their lies. We paid close to $2, 000 dollars for our bed. We could have gone on a nicely needed vacation or paid off other bills. People wonder why this world is falling apart, it's because of this kind of attitude from companies like this. Mrs. Burd

I have to agree with the above people. I was not only lied to within the store by the MANAGER about how the bed would HELP my wife with pre-existing neck and back pain (her husbands personal experience and "her own customer testimonials" was a big crock). Now my wife has lower back, hip and leg pains in addition to the pre-existing pain. The store manager also pushed us into the closeout model with statements like the newer one is not better. Buyer beware of the (pressure) tactics this unscrupulous organization uses. they DO NOT have a 20 year warranty that covers the entire bed mind you. ITS CONDITIONAL and does NOT cover many of the main components of the bed. Needless to say the returns dept wouldnt take the bed back - which is 100% new, barely used. If it were such a great bed they wouldnt have a problem taking it back as most people wouldnt be returning it as often.

Im not really sure how they even justify the costs of a $5000 bed, when the material they use is less expensive and even breaks compared to the GOOD beds that have only a cover and foam that is natural which is extremely expensive and better for your health. I.e. DOES NOT GIVE OFF TOXIC odors or a by product of plastics.

research and you will find this is not the bed to get. I found out too late.. hopefully you can protect yourself and stay away from select DIScomfort products. ALSO.. for those that dont want their beds you can research good housekeeping seal of approval.. im not sure how the beds made it onto that list. but they will take the return if its within 2 years of purchase.. im still in the process of that complaint - so we will see... im not really sure how much longer it will be on their list. I will talk to my PI atty and begin legal action... maybe even see a class action atty. this site does not have as many complaints as I have seen elsewhere..

My grandmother has made the same mistake! She spent $5500 for UN-Comfort! The bed needed replacement pumps and foam within a few years, and cs wants to charge $300! RIP OFF! Sales people at sleep number are on commission, that is why they talk up the 20 year warranty, yet do not disclose the details! This company should be ashamed of themselves!

James Freund,
I have an 80 yr old mother who bought one of your expensive beds, and she wants to return it. Many issues, pump failure, leaks air, very hard to use, and terrible comfort. I asked her how the heck she would go out an buy something without researching the net. But she is older and doesn't know how, and she didn't ask. Anyway all of these failures happen within 30 days and now that she wants return it they say she has to pay hundreds of dollars of shipping and something about the pad...
I own my own company and I would die if I had the complaints you guys have, but such is your business it seems, I guess you make money from stealing from poor old ladies with your excessive fees. Now to the point. If your in customer service give us a time to call you and arrange pickup.
She has no contract from your phone sales, no sales reipt since the sellers were in such a hurry to collect her money, and no contract that specifies any of your preditory terms. The local store screwed up so we may have you cold if I get an attorney involved.
People should not have to jump through hoops to try to return defective products to your warehouse when they purchase from a local store. Very clever tactics, sell a bed 100 times and make people pay you $400 each time for nothing.

How would you feel if this BS was pulled on your mother? People Beware of this preditory company and their tricky agreement and did I mention their very nasty people on the phone when you have issues. They had my poor mother in tears.

Hi, I work for Select Comfort and we want you to know that help is available. We have and still do sell a bed that comes without Sleep Number controls as this allows us to provide a lower price point. On our 3000 Model bed, the difference between a Sleep Number control and a non-Sleep Number control is $200.00. Customers who purchase this 3000 bed do have the option to upgrade to the Sleep Number pump any time during their first year of ownership.

Because our bed conforms to the shape of your body it's not unusual to be able to see where you were laying after getting out of it. For customers who want the bed to look nicer when they're not in it, we recommend setting the bed to it's maximum firmness after getting out of the bed. This will cause each chamber to fill more and give a more level and even appearance across the top of the bed.

If your air chambers appear to be sitting lower than the foam sidewalls, we have chamber lifts [1" thick foam pads that go underneath the air chambers] to raise the chambers so they are level with the sidewalls. We send these out free of charge to anyone who requests them during their first year of ownership.

I'd encourage you to give us a call at [protected] so we can discuss and address the aformentoined issues and any other you've experienced.

James Freund

Sleep Number remote has no display

Hey everyone that has a Sleep Number bed. What's your number? Me? I can't tell you. Both wired remotes lost their displays within a week. Talked to Select Comfort. It seems their warranty does not cover the wired remotes. Because it is wired to the pump, it is too costly for them to cover problems with the remotes. I cannot find anyone that has parts for them. Anyone have an idea where to find the displays for these remotes, please let me know.

Sleep Number does not rasie or lower position

I purchased a queen-size sleep by number in May '05 at their
Menlo Park store. It had controls to raise/lower, the head and
the foot positions. I moved to point Pleasant NJ 8/1/06 and
ever since these controls do not work. I was sent a new remote
control (charged for) and fax messages to try to correct the problem. I have not been able to get anyone to come to my home
to fix this problem and, to my knowledge, it is not their practice
to send repairmen to the site. How can I fix this bed by fax message when I am 75 years old with severe back problems ?
I wish someone would help me for I thought the bed was under
20 year warranty.

We purchased the queen super with all the bells and whistles. Whenever we used the head raising control, the gears all broke... and had to be replaced. This happened two times Now they want to charge me. I have yet to get to sleep in the 6 year old bed with the head raised because it broke every time I tried to raise it. We do, however love the rest of the features so we bought another one for a guest bedroom and now have a new problem. We have to unplug the bed that is not being adjusted because if one remote is changing the sleep number setting both beds start changing... I'm tired of trying to get a response from these people. So my advice is... if and when it works, it's a great bed (5 stars). If you are handy and can fix it yourself get one.. the reliability of this bed is substandard and the customer service is worse.

I am on my second set of remotes, fisrt ones replaced under warranty. Now I have to dish out some cash for another set. Must be a common problem since they get bid up like crazy on e-bay. Obviously there is a problem with these remotes. If select comfort stood by there product they would take care of these customers. I love my bed and its been a headache since the remotes do not work right, my wife has been sleeping with almost no air on her side of the bed complaining of a sore back until I finally tried to get it more comfortable for her, even though the display on neither remotes work. I have contacted customer service and they can only give me a discount on the new pumt that cost around $400.00 Either way I could get one cheaper on e-bay and can't even afford that right now. If you stood behind your product you would take care of this obvious problem. Remotes are probably made in China or Mexico.

It's funny. We purchase these beds with an assumption that Select Comfort stands by their product. What is my sleep number? I can't tell you because both the wired remote displays went out. No warranty. What happened to the twenty year warranty? I guess it doesn't cover the wired remotes because it's too expensive to send a whole new pump. I was told I would have to buy a new pump. Hey Select Comfort! Don't you have any parts laying around? Send them to me., so I can fix your remote!

Hello, my name is Kristin. I work for Select Comfort in the Customer Service Call Center, I am so sorry to hear you are having problems with your adjustable foundation not raising and lowering. Select Comfort does not actually manufacture the adjustable foundations; therefore we do not warranty them. Your warranty holders are actually a company called Leggett & Platt. You do have a 20 year limited warranty though them as well. I know they do offer service calls depending on what stage of the warranty you are in. I recommend checking with them for the clear facts on the warranty policies of their product. You can reach Leggett & Platt at [protected]. We value feedback from our customers and appreciate you taking the time to let your issue be known.

Sleep Number not one

I would love to hear from someone who purchased one of the better models of Select Comfort either the 7000 or 9000 if you are interested in selling you bed, and are in Texas. I would love to buy one but I'm completely perplexed at the feeeback. People either LOVE them or HATE them no in between. I think I would like one but I don't want to take a $5000 gamble. If yours doesn't work for you email me with particulars, age, condition, location, and price to [protected]@gmail.com

Hello, my name is Kristin. I work in the Customer Service call center for Select Comfort. I am so happy to hear you are looking to purchase a new Sleep Number bed! I do have a little information for you from a company standpoint vs. customer feedback. (Well maybe a little customer feedback since I am an owner of a king 5000 model and just love my bed!)

One thing to keep in mind is that with the purchase of our beds is that you do get a 30 night in-home-trial. Of course, that means if you are not happy with the bed for any reason you can return it within the 30 night trial. We do also offer extended financing plans and even sometimes cash discounts. Feel free to take a look on our website www.sleepnumber.com to check out the promotions we currently have running. Depending on the model and size you choose, you can also look into purchasing an outlet model. These are discounted beds because they are a previous year’s model. If you would like more information please feel free to call our direct sales department at [protected] or stop into your local store. I would also like to direct you to http://www.beds.com/greatsleep/greatSleepConversation/SNC for more customer feedback about our beds.

Sleep Well,

Kristin Prahl

Select number beds are nothing more than a couple of air mattresses with a hard plastic frame and an air pump. Probably about $200 worth of materials. They charged $2, 500 for the one a bought. Worst $2, 500 I ever spent. One of the "air chambers" (I call it air mattres) leaks. I called the help number and they sent me to plugs to plug the hose lines to...

Sleep Number crap warranty

5 year old $2500 bed. A 10 cent chip goes bad on the pump circuit board and they want $150 and insist the entire pump must be replaced; what a friggin racket.

Dear [protected],

Thank you for contacting Select Comfort Customer Service. I apologize, but unfortunately we are unable to replace just the circuit board. The entire pump unit will need to be replaced.

Should you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

That's a shame; the pump was used so little. May I simply purchase the pump circuit board only? The compressor and valves are fine. I don't want to bore you with my woes, let's just say $157.50 is a lot of money to come up with.
I realize the circuit board would not be considered consumer replaceable, and while I might list certified qualifications that would keep you reading for some time to come, I'll spare you...
Please, I so appreciate your support.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Pump does not respond to any commands; no beep or click, even when plugging/re-plugging unit into verified electric outlet.
Controller displays remain blank and unlit when a button is pushed.

I look forward to your resolution,

Dear [protected],

Thank you for contacting Select Comfort. I apologize for the issue you are experiencing with your Select Comfort Bed. In order to best address your concern, I do have a few follow up questions. Does your pump respond at all to any commands? Does it make any noises as though it is trying to move air, but is unable to? Is there any display on the controller face when you attempt to make an adjustment? If you were to unplug the pump from the power outlet and then plug it back in, does the pump make any beeping or clicking noises? This information will help to isolate the issue so that we can take the best corrective action.

Thank you.

I have one last warning and statement. It is my opinion that any company that manufactures a product that is targeted towards the elderly or infirm and, has a poor product with a high profit margin is by definition predatory. If you have trouble getting out of bed and are looking for a similar product, do your homework with various independent search engines and look at reviews (like this one). It is YOUR money, and money talks. Let your voice be heard by giving honest constructive feedback, but be unforgiving in your child like honesty. Any company that ignores the feedback from customers or its image online is doomed to suffer financial hardship because people will stop buying whatever garbage they are pitching. I say again it is my honest, educated, and first hand experience-based opinion that this company (Leggett & Platt (L&P) Adjustable beds, (brand name, Select Comfort, "sleep number" beds) is predatory on a vulnerable section of society and is profiting therein. Vote with your $$, and vote often. Caveat Emptor!

Our precision comfort sleep number bed was bought in 2010 and it has stopped working totally (it cost us $5K). We called the customer service and they sold us a control box (emergency down box to lower the bed if power is out) and that did not fix the problem (that little worthless box was $50). I agree with the USAF TSgt above that stated they try to sell you cheap components that may/may not fix the problem to suck whatever cash out of you. This product is without a doubt, poorly made and poorly supported. The customer service is callous and non-helpful. If you pay $5K for something and it stops working 4 years later, my advice is to hear and heed all these complaints as a warning. For what it is worth, save yourself trouble, heartache, frustration, your money, and ulcers. DO NOT BUY anything from Leggett & Platt (L&P) Adjustable beds, (brand name, Select Comfort, "sleep number" beds). This company will not support you when their product breaks; their product WILL break within 3-4 years, and you will know the taste and meaning of regret. Caveat Emptor!

My pump, not with numbers, but with hoses to two sides of a queen bed, seems to have stopped working on one side. Is there a way to have the company check the pump by taking it to the local outlet and letting them deal with it? I should think it wouldn't be necessary to purchase a whole new pump (we just re-inflated both sides with one hose), but it would be nicer to have both sides working. I've read all of the comments and complaints, and wonder if there isn't room for refurbishing some of the used pumps that stop working?

Thanks!

My pump went dead as well. Remote wouldn't "wake up" the pump, and just gave a "00" number. I figured they would want a fortune for a new circuit board (which I now see they won't even sell).
After poking around the circuit board with a VO meter, it turned out to be a little 30c bridge diode became 100% shorted, which also blew the fuse on the board. Total cost about $2, and they were easy to replace.

I actually like the comfort of the bed but, agree with others that the pump and the customer service are really really bad. I like joe's idea of fill and capping the tube, a plastic stopcock and bike pump should cost less than $200.

I agree with all the complaints. I bought my sleep number bed about 5 years ago, two years later I wake up the next morning with debilitating headaches and still had to go to work in an auto plant. My remote haven't showed a number in 3 years Now after just 5 years of owning the bed, I'm sleeping on my couch wondering where I'm going to find the money to pay for an $800 mattress set. We should all get together and get a lawyer, and make a class action law suit against this "bed maker". Would-en it be nice if the Better Business Bureau had infomercials to warn the consumers about the faulty products that"s out there. I'm so agree reading about all these complaints, and how the company responds to their customers.

WE Bought the king size adjustable head and spent around 9K. We thought the very best so we wont have to return it or buy a better bed. WRONG! This bed is absolutely the worst value for the money. The side supports sags the foam on top ripped, I feel like I need to be strapped down so I don't fall on the floor.
The customer support is world class ###. "I'm sorry but any foam components are not covered under our warranty! I said the bed mattress is covered except for the foam? The entire mattress is made of foam and air. I didn't ask if the air was on warranty.
TELL THE WORLD THAT A SLEEP NUMBER BED IS MADE BY SATAN AND YOU WILL END UP IN HELL IF YOU DON'T HEED THIS WARNING. LET US ALL REPENT OUR SINS OF BUYING THIS DAMN PRODUCT. AMEN

We bought a sleep number bed, 3000.00, and absolutely hate it. To return it was going to cost over 500.00 in shipping fees. They don't tell you these beds do not suit overweight adults. Biggest mistake of our lives was buying this bed. Customer service sucks too.

We agree with all that we have read above. We had a power surge which burnt up one little capacitor. We have asked them to give us the number of the capacitor so that we can replace it. The bed has been out of the one-year warranty for several years, but they will not give us the information we need. They told us they will not supply us with a new circuit board or a schematic. Here we are needing to replace a ten or maybe a fifty cent piece of equipment, but the company insists that we must buy a whole new pump for $450.00. Then they had the nerve to tell us that we could buy one on EBAY or Craig's List, if we wanted to save some money. I let them know that they gave no customer SERVICDE. They had the nerve to tell me that I shouldn't have opened the housing for the pump. They said that on the back of the case, it tells you that if the case is opened, it voids the warranty, and that the case should only be opened by authorized repairmen. The only problem is, the only authorized repairmen are at their factory. One of the customer service(?) people told me that, if I agreed to buy the pump, they would send me a new pump, then we should send back the old one, and they would repair it and resell it. How's that for making lots of money for a company that provides no service for their extremely expensive beds? We wouldn't buy another bed from them under any circumstances, and we will tell anybody we know to not to even think about buying one. Thanks for your information, and the opportunity to express our views about this lousy company.

Sleep Number no follow up service

I am disgusted with my Select Comfort sleep number bed. I paid over 8, 000 for it and it will not retain the pressure it is set at. Noone will come and fix it, expects me to fix it myself with instructions on the phone, and to replace parts myself. This is totally disgusting for the amount of money we spent. Someone should be able to come to the house and fix it for me, it has never been right since I bought it 8 months ago.

Is there nothing that can be done legally for purchasing something that has never worked as advertized?

Sleep Number mold issue with the foam

The interior of my Select Comfort Bed is moldy. I asked for a replacement foam insert and they want to charge me $650.00 to replace the moldy parts. This appears to be a common problem with their beds. I have been sick sleeping on the bed but did not know why until we took it apart to move.

Ian,
I had mold on my bladders and foam, which I discovered after ordering replacement foam. Not only did I not get something for free, but now I'm told I can't even return the foam for credit - and I never even opened the box!

Hi Penina,

I'm Ian from Select Comfort, creators of the Sleep Number bed. Our record indicates you emailed stating you needed to purchase a new pilowtop mattress cover and that your foam topper pad was moldy. When we offered to ship any affected parts for free, you said "I am very happy with your solution. The parts that are moldy are the two air chambers and the foam insert." We then shipped a free foam topper pad and two free treated air chambers to the address you gave us. I am sorry for any misunderstanding. In order to reach customer service, please do feel free to call [protected] or email customerservice@selectcomfort.com anytime.

Sleep Number beds offer no spine support

I bought a Sleep Number bed 4 yrs ago (the dual control type). I noticed I started waking up with terrible back pain and it took me a while to realize it was the bed and that even at the highest air level of 100, it was in no way firm or supportive enough to support or conform to my spine. It was only when I noticed after sleeping at hotels or staying with friends, that I was NOT waking up with unbelievable back pain like I did at home. I work out for over an hour 5-6 times a week so anyone who tries to blow off these complaints by saying that they user's back hurts because they are just out of shape, is dead wrong.

I ended up having to have back surgery to fix hernited disks that I feel had been caused by the years of sleeping on this bed with NO support - leaving my spine to sag along with the mattress. I actually avoided fusion of my spine simply by changing to another type of high quality/ firm mattress.

If the Sleep number bed would allow people to inflate it MORE to say 180 or so, they might be able to offer people better support. But for those of us who need more than 100 (top air level), this bed is frustrating, limited and expensive when you add up all the medical bills. I do have to say it is a -itch to put together too by they way.

Sleep Number misleading and hidden info on financing!

I had been looking at the sleep number bed for some time and had received informational material from them. I was at Woodland Mall while waiting for my car to be worked on. I stopped in at the Select Comfort store in the mall looking for some more info before deciding if I wanted to buy. The store manager, Jean, took a great deal of time to work with me. I told her that at present I did not have the funds to purchase a bed. She suggested their financing.

I told her that I was recovering from Bankruptcy and probably would not qualify. She encouraged me to fill out the top half of a block form and she would check. I never paid too much attention to the form since I was sure they would not approve my request. A short time later jean comes up to me and tells me that i was approved for $3000 of credit. I say okay. Being a retail store I figure financing would be about 22%.

After making my selections and choosing the Queen 5000 bed which I was told was on special being a closeout bed. At no time was the financing package explained to me nor was I given any paperwork that outlined the terms. I just received a receipt and some business cards of the store manager. On the receipt it stated the customer agrees to pay according to the finance agreement. I did not think to ask about it thinking that it was similar to those of JC Penny's and Sears which I have had in the past. Jean also indicated that there was no interest for the first 90 days. I had explained to Jean that I only had approximately $100 a month available for payment and she assured me that the monthly payment would be less then that.

After the first 90 days was up I send in my payment on November 3rd. When I get next statement I see $200+ added to my account plus a late fee. I noticed that my payment was not credited to my account until November 12th. I contact Select Comfort and they tell me there is nothing they can do and in fact are very unresponsive to my complaint but instead instruct me to contact the finance company. In this case HC processing in Arkansas. They tell me that my payment must have got delayed in mail and therefore I am late. I find out that my finance rate is now 29.75%. In subsequent correspondence they tell me that I should have received information on the financing at time of purchase, which I did not. If I had been informed about the ridiculous terms I would have never purchased the bed. They also tell me that the 90 days without interest is a special. What good is it when I had clearly told the store manager Jean that I only had about $100 a month available for payments. In order to pay off without interest I would have had to be able clear more then $800 a month after all other obligations were satisfied. Clearly very deceptive and not straightforward in informing the consumer (me) about their financing terms.

I am very unhappy and even more so both Hc Processing and Select Comfort's lack of interest in trying to satisfy the customer. I worked in retail for several years and even when the customer was wrong we did what was necessary to make them happy even if it meant a complete refund.

My advice do not purchase a Select Comfort Bed using their financing. They are bent on cheating you. There on-line bill payment is bad as well. they only allow for electronic checks drawn from your checking account. They use a third party processing company so you are not credited with any payment until it clears with the thrid party vendor. Again this delay will cause you to be delinquent resulting in another late payment fee. Very Dishonest.

I did not purchase a sleep number bed, but a treadclimber, much the same way though. I put in a finance request thinking I would be turned down. I didn't receive a confirmation and thought I wasn't approved. As my husband and I were walking out the door a year ago, the UPS driver was dropping off very heavy boxes of treadclimber equipment. We didn't sign a contact either. We didn't receive any contract or paperwork form HC processing in the mail (as they claim). We were leaving town, decided we'd deal with it when we got home. Got home, they refused to come and get it.
HC processing has called my neighbors and harrassed us and our interest rate is somewhere around 29% as well. Also, our balance is up $1000 from the purchase price! how is that possible?
I have called treadclimber, with no luck. I have spoken with HC Processing to try to settle, no luck. I make my monthly payments and probably will till we die. I would like to get in on the class action lawsuit but cannot find it anywhere. Please let me know how to get in on this lawsuit.

I have experienced a similar situation with Sleep Number/HC Processing. In the store at the Mall of America, the terms I signed were no interest and no payments for one year. Before my bed arrived I was switched by the vendor to 3 months of deferred interest, just like you.

The first I heard of this was when a collector called asking why I had not made my payment. I have worked with both the store that I purchased the bed from, as well as Select Comfort's corporate customer service and am still working on getting relief. These collectors are relentless. They call me at home, at work, and they even harass my retired parents in Chicago.

The worst part is that I have paid off the bed in full according to the terms I agreed to. They are after me for delinquent penalties and interest. It is bait and switch, plain and simple, and bait and switch is illegal.

They are making negative marks on my credit while I am trying to buy a house. Instead of caving to their extortion and bullying tactics, I may just hire an attorney, since my credit report now needs repair. I also saw a class action lawsuit against them that I might be interested in joining.

Sleep Number poor product!

I purchased a select comfort bed in the year of 2001. Between 2001 and Jan 2008 I had to replace the air pump four times, and two air chambers. Although under a prorated warranty ( 70 Percent during my problem period), the air chambers cost about 50 each and the air pumps are over 150. I have also had to sew my mattress seam back together by hand to keep the zipper from becoming unattached. The air chambers can fail due to O-Ring Failure, cracked plastic air-intake nipple, rubber seam failure or air hose connector malfunction.

One needs an experienced pit crew to keep this bed system in operation. The bed sleeps good except for the dreaded trenching effect. That's where one person slides into the other sleeper because one person chose a lower sleep number than their partner.

I'm sorry to hear all these horror stories. I'm glad I didn't read them before we bought ours. We did have one failure of the dials not being readable after a year or two. They sent us a new pump and dials for no charge. Yes, I did have to get under the bed and stuff, but it wasn't that bad - I'm 65 years old. The really good thing about the bed is that I like it soft and my wife likes a hard mattress. She runs at like 75 and I run at like 25. We're both comfortable, whereas before it was either she or me.

Sleep Number terrible experience!

I purchased a sleep number bed do to a couple of herniated discs in my back. I had been sleeping on the couch and we had heard it helped with back problems. When we first got it it was amazing I never had a back problem again and could have been a spokes person for them until... We had remodeled our home and had to move our bed when we went to take apart the mattress to move it we noticed under the cover it was filled with Black Mold (and my husband is highly allergic to mold) we contacted them immediately and they sent us a new mattress for US to set up and we had to find someone with a truck because we had to send them back the old one. Ever since we received this new mattress we lose air and there is a crater in the middle and it is high on the sides, it slips off the boxspring all the time and it just seems to big for the boxspring. We contacted them again since I am back on the couch and the sent out these caps for us to try to see if they would work to stop the air loss and no they didn't. We will be calling tonight and demanding them to send us a new bed and if they refuse or do not help us out with all the money we spent (they are not cheap) I will make sure there will be blogs, media attention etc... What bad business, first of all to have people with back problems buy their beds and then expect them to return these unbelievably huge boxes so they can hide the fact of MOLD...

I have had Mold in the parts of the mattress and a severe cough that only happened as I slept on my select comfort mattress. I would cough constantly thru the night,
The company replaced the inserts of the mattress and assured me that it was not going to happen again .
Well the cough started again, so I opened the mattress to find that there was not any mold that was visible but the inflatable chambers were wet and I am now wondering what the mattress chambers were treated with as I frequently awake in the middle of the night feeling overheated and still coughing.
I am very concerned and the company refuses to help.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I recently purchased the top of the line Dvx from sleep train. I was told this was the same as the 9000 model. When I asked about the problem with the mold, I was informed they have corrected that a few years ago. The problem I am having is that my bed will not stay at 100, it deflates down to 80 on both sides. I Has anyone else had this problem? First my pumps were replaced then the whole top mattress. I do not understand how sleep number gets away with selling a product that is a danger to consumers. Mold is very dangerous and an extreme health hazard and I got charged $200 to have this dangerous material removed from my home! NOT FAIR not only do I get charged $200 to remove the mattress that smelled so horrible that even my dog would not come in the room, but they even kept me waiting for over a week to get it out!

I got the run around from the company, they are not cooperative they did not care that I have asthma and that the smell was bothered me.

OMIGOODNESS! We have had our select comfort for 9 years (supposed to last 20) and because it has felt so awful the past few years, we finally decided to get a new bed. Well, this morning when we took the bed apart we were HORRIFIED to find it full of black mold! My husband and I have both suffered sinus infections for the first time in our life with this bed and I have had bronchitis and a chronic cough. I will be contacting the company today but I first went on line to see if others had this issue and have seen several reports on line of the same thing. I wanted to make sure to warn others. Perhaps if there are enough cases of this, something can be done. I don't want another bed from them but I would like some refund of this rip off! DO NOT BUY!

I have had my sleep number mattress since 2004... my husband and keep trying to find our number... so we have experimented to no avail... cannot find our number's, I called the store where we bought it and they said to check our air hose's... not knowing where they were, the store clerk guided me throuth this.. I pulled up my mattress and discovered MOLD, MOLD, MOlD and was horrified by what I saw... I have suffered, allergies, breathing problems, face hives, body aches, and, stiffness with joints. Could not figure out where all these problems were coming from... untill I saw the MOLD... I've always been fine until I go to bed then all of a sudden all these ailments are there... I took off my bed skirt since it's just a dust magnent and clean and vacuum all the time... Well guess what I am sleepint on top of a disaster...MOLD... make sure you check out your bed... and make sure you're not sleeping on the MOLDE I discovered...

Sleep Number scam and cheating!

I hate this bed. We purchased the Sleep Number bed several months ago and I was out of the country when it was delivered so I missed the 30 day return window. I set the number at 50 when I go to bed and wake up in a couple of hours with it being too soft or too hard. Sometimes it's 70 and sometimes it's 35. I have a back and neck ache every morning. Now I'm stuck with a $1600.00 bed I'm gonna be paying for for years.

Thanks for nothing, Sleep number!

Sleep Number sink hole!

We purchased a sleep number bed with duel controls about 6 months ago. After a fews weeks my half sunk in, I almost have to be helped to get out. I made the bed harder and after a few days back in a hole i was. I called customer service and they sent me out a pad to put underneath the air mattress, because i could feel the hard bottom. That didn't work ! I called again and was told sink holes weren't under the warranty and at that time was told to vacuum the top cushion. Which hasn't helped. My husbands side is fine and he weighs 90lbs more than me. I realize that mattresses do sink some, we're talking about a 6" inch depth and after only a few weeks, and another thought if it's air and i get out shouldn't it re-distribute itself ?. Well. it doesn't. the hole is always there. When i get up and my husband moves he falls into the hole. We are paying over $2000.00 for a bed I'm ready to change. I thought it would last me much longer then a few months.

SO I WOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE PURCHASING A SLEEP NUMBER BED. I have pictures of the hole if any one would like to see just email me and I'll send u them. A DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER!
