Quest Diagnostics Unwarranted letter from collection agency

I received two bills from Quest, dated 2/15/10, for lab services. I was unable to pay the total bill in full, I sent a pymetn of $57.40, with a note to pay the smaller statement and apply the balance of the check to the larger bill, and a note I would pay off the balance due, on Mar 9, 2010. That check cleared my bank on 3/15/10. I received the next invoice dated Arp. 1, 2010 and sent a payment on Apr. 19th, for $50. which cleared my bank on Apr. 22. I received a precollection letter from them dated Apr. 19th, stating I owed them $150., which I answered with a letter dated May 8 and another payment of $50., which cleared my bank on May 13th. Not five days after mailing this payment I received a call from a customer service representative. I explained that I have been making payments and that I tried to call but the number supplied had to be called between 8:30-5pm and I was unable to make calls during that time since I am in transit and at work during those hours and days, and didn't have the option to make calls on my bosses time since I am a tailor, and do fittings and sit at a sewing machine all day. She said she would mark the records accordingly. I recieved a fourth notice, undated from them, I recieved about June 12th, threatening to turn me over for collections. On June 18th, I had a message on my cell phone regarding the bill. I returned the message stating the payment would be mailed that weekend, since I needed that paycheck to make the payment, which I mailed, that check cleared my bank on June 22-the final payment. On Tuesday, June 22 I received a call from the collection agency with regard to the bill and informed the agent, that I had mailed the final check on June 19th. I also received calls on June 24, 25 & 29 and then a letter dated June 23. Since I have been sending monthly payments to Quest all along, I feel their collectionletters and calls are not only unwarranted, but constitute harrassment, going well beyond my final payment being accepted and depostied by Quest.

Quest Diagnostics Billing practices

WARNING - Before you promise anything to collection agencies for any alleged balances due Quest Diagnostics, take a look at your bill! In PA, Quest has an add-on charge labled "Travel Allowance One Way" for $85. The actual bill for testing may be $29, which your health care provider pays for and you usually have a small co-pay. Quest is submitting bills for the "travel allowance" amount which, of course, was not paid by health care, to collection agencies who dun patients and threaten their credit rating, most of whom may be on fixed incomes. Think about it. A guy drives around in a van from doctor's office to doctor's office/hospital, all day collecting test tubes and returns them to the local Quest Lab for testing. A charge of $85 is added to the consumers bill for this pick-up service. If one doctor does 50 tests that morning and Quest charges the patients $85 per bill/test, that's $4250 in unnecessary charges just for one pick-up box! I wish I had that guy's job! If it's not paid, they will send you to collections for the $85 "travel allowance", not the bill for the actual service. Please, consumers, look at your health providers' bills BEFORE you pay any co-pays, dedictibles or make arrangments with an agency. You could be a 70 year old man paying for a pregnancy test!

Quest Diagnostics Co-payment

Quest Diagnostics now requires patients who are insured with Blue Cross & Blue Shield to pay them a $30 co-pay or let them keep your debit/credit card number on their system before lab work is done even if the patient's BCBS coverage does not require a co-pay.

After BCBS has paid Quest and the patient's BCBS coverage does require a co-pay Quest will keep your $30 or charge your debit/credit card. If the patient's BCBS coverage does not require a co-pay Quest will refund the $30.00 and not charge your debit/credit card for anything.

Obviously, this maneuver has been adopted by Quest Diagnostics without moral or legal consideration and violates a patient's contract with BCBS.

Have they been charging this $30 co-pay towards Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP (Federal Employee Program) members that you know of?

for the OP, all providers are by federal law, allowed to charge you up front. this secures at least some payment for the service if your insurance doesnt pay. if payment is made, obviously, you are due a reimbursement. but, they are allowed to do this and this is a common practice by many different providers.

Quest Diagnostics Group leader

I have been a temp for quest for over 10 months. The quest supervisor for this site has been wanting to hire me but lies to me and my temp lady about hiring me. The group leader over this site is trying to talk the supervisor out of not hiring me. The group leader is very rude to me and belittle's me. She harasses me all the time and keep's on and refuses to leave me alone until i get tired of her and i quit. This is very uncalled for and if she doesn't stop i will go furthur and will turn her in and will take her to court for harassment. Quest needs to do something about this adult bully. Thank you so much for your time.

Quest Diagnostics Overcharged for lab fees

Quest Diagnostics charged me $215 for a Vitamin D-3 test. This is simply a ridiculous amount. First of all, the Doctor sold it to me as a "routine blood test" during my yearly physical. All I know is that 2 weeks later Quest bills me for over $300 for the tests! Why did the Doctor not warn me? Why is Quest charging so much? Why is my insurance not paying if this is a routine physical? I called all of them, and everyone blames everyone else. The bottom line is, this is a huge rip-off. Beware before you take any blood test and make sure your Doctor does not order any tests that will result in such outrageous fees.

You are going to a participating provider, as is encouraged by the Insurance Company. If the insurance denies payment for a specific test, you should be billed at the Contracted rate between the insurance company and Quest, not an artificial List Price. Quest does not provide pricing of the contracted rate, so you will not know how little the insurance actually pays. Marie, you are absolutely right.

Quest Diagnostics Billing uninsured

Quest billed my wife over $625.00 for lab services ordered by her Doctor. We have no insurance, and when I called to see if they would discount the bill for a cash pay, the customer service rep stated that it is against company policy to discount a private pay account. Discounts are reserved for contract customers only. In other words screw you patient, we love Insurance money more than you. Even after explaining my situation, they were completely unwilling to work with us at all. BEWARE OF QUEST DIAGNOSTICS! They are not in it to help patients they are chasing insurance $$ and if along the way you as a little patient need a break (one that they offer nearly every insurance company) they will deny you the price they offer to the corporations. I have now set up a payment plan to pay my total bill, it should be payed off when our child who is still unborn is already out of diapers.

Quest Diagnostics Bad service

I went in to take blood and the technician was so horrible that I told her I wasn't comfortable with letting her touch me. She was rude, she ripped my paperwork, she was asking for things listed on the paperwork which I thought was the reason I was at the lab. It was the most disgusting behavior I have ever seen from a technician ever. I will never go back to quest again.

Quest Diagnostics Invoices addressed to minors

I have had this issue before - but did you all know that if your minor child is sent an invoice (addressed to the child/payable by the child) you, as a parent, are NOT LEGALLY responsible for the bill? Well - My 16 year old daughter received an invoice for lab work done by Quest. The envelope was addressed to her with the statement: "To be opened by Addressee Only". I wrote on the envelope: "Addressee is a 16 year old child. You want payment - address invoice property. Return to Sender". They sent out a second invoice addressed the same way. I, in turn, wrote the same note and returned the invoice. I then received a COMPUTER RECORDING call (not by a person, but by a damn computer) calling for my daughter regarding the bill. There was no way of obtaining a real person for customer service. I did learn from my pediatrician's office that Quest is quick to send their non-payments to collections. It has been almost a year and I haven't heard anything. But they need to either change the way they do billing or actually provide customer service with a voice and not "Press 1 if this is so-in-so" "Press 2 if this is not so-in-so". "Press 3 ... and so on. Need I say more?

Quest Diagnostics Making appointments

Don't bother making appointments. First you search for an appointments number. Its not on your prescription form. When you arrive at appointed time, others coming in after you sometimes get called before you.

Watch billing like a hawk.

Check box yourself, if you do not want to pay for a test that is not insured, at least at that visit for taking blood work.

Quest Diagnostics Procedures

Quest Diagnostics in Santa Paula - I signed in and sat down waiting to be called for them to take my paperwork. There was only one name ahead of me, and a lady came in after me. No one showed up at the desk for 15 minutes, then they called the person ahead of me, and then called the lady who came in after me. I asked what about me...and they continued to deal with the lady who came in after me. I got mad and left. But I called 5 minutes later, they told me my name was highlighted so it means they had taken my paperwork, but that was incorrect. They of course said if I came back they would take me right away, etc. but at that point I just gave up. If they can't do this simple procedure, yeah right, I'm going to let them stick me in the arm. I went to the Quest website to lodge a complaint but of course they have no facility for doing so. I know everyone has had more serious problems than this, but I'm lodging this nonetheless.

Quest Diagnostics Fraudulent billing

I have been trying for over 2 years to get Quest to send a bill to my insurance company. Blue Cross says the lab work is 100% covered and would be paid as soon as they received the bill. But I can't get Quest to send a bill. They have stated to me on several statements that they send the bill and Blue Cross denied it. But talking to Blue Cross they say they have NEVER denied any claim for me, and they NEVER received a bill. Blue Cross has informed me that even if Quest sent it to the wrong address...it would be logged in their computer. If they sent incomplete info...it would show. NOTHING shows in the computer...NOTHING has EVER been received from Quest at ALL.
I tried getting a copy of the bill myself and all they will send is a statement which is not enough for insurance to pay. Do I have any rights at all? Just send the bill to the insurance company and they will pay. Still...almost 3 years later...no bill to the insurance company. Just bill collectors calling and hanging up on my phone 10 to 12 times a day. Sheesh! This company is a scam

I know this is an old post but I want to reiterate that you should try another lab such as labCorp, Clincal Pathologists etc. If you do have insurance see which other labs you can use besides Quest-they are nothing but a bunch of crooks & will max out their allowable with your insurance company. Discounts should be given for a cash pay people anyway-They are getting paid UPFRONT & do not have to submit claims with insurance which takes time & requires hiring people or an outside company to take care of.

Quest Diagnostics Poor services and unprofessional attitude

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a matter today at Diagnostice Quest. I brough my daughter today for a blood draw. Her name is Melissa;she had a bad attitude to treat the customers. She asks for who is next, I came to her and tell her that my daughter name is Vivian and she answered that " You are not next" . I came back to my seat, but she called again the last name of person " Becker or Bekie" and no body answered. She looked around and asked" Its only three of you today?" . I want to make sure that I wrote my daughter's name correct and came back to see the list's name, and I didn't even ask her anything yet. She is so rude and looked at me so mad and raised her voice and said" I know your name". I did not say anything, but I told her " Please be nice and don't yell at me". Her attitude is so bad. And then, Jennifer who called my daughter to come for blood draw. My daughter is so scared to see the needle so she shakes her body a little. I tried to calm her down and say something sweet to my daughter, but, Jennifer was yelling at my daughter, everybody looked at my daughter to see what is happening. My daughter was crying and told me that the people today in the office are not nice at all.

This is my first time to visit the office, but it is so bad!

Manager, please look and review the employees work for company. It is not right that people come for help and the employees give poor services and unprofessional attitude.

I will not come back again because I feel not secure behind the unprofessional services.

Sincerely,

Customer

Quest Diagnostics Billing

Quest sent my husband a bill for services rendered in March. In May, we received a bill. I called Quest and paid the bill. In June we received another bill, dated March as well, the same date as the prior services that had been paid off. Unknowingly, my husband paid that bill. When I asked him why there was a Quest bill on the coffee table he said he had paid it and not to worry. So, now we've paid the bill, twice, for the same services rendered in March. Now Quest has sent us another bill, for the same amount. We called, and they said it was sent by mistake but not to worry. Just today I got a LATE notice from them, FOR THE SAME BILL.
How many times do they want us to pay them? I wonder if they send out multiple bills hoping people will forget and keep paying them for services already paid for - at least, this has given me that impression.

Obtained routine blood work. The receptionist checked my insurance and told me it would be $50 copay.
Two weeks later I got a bill for over $500.00. Clearly they are incompetent to give patients any recommendation on billing issues.
They also were deceptive and never told me that I was obtaining blood work that would cost over $500.00.

Quest asked me to pay my overdue bill at the lab. I have insurance that covers everything, and informed them. I them got a bill in the mail. I called the number on the bill, but their phone number doesn't let you talk to anyone. "get human" online gives another number, lots of waiting, ending up transferring me back to the first number, which had a 10 minute wait time. I tried online chatting, waited 4 minutes before the chat started. And lots of delays while chatting. After giving them all the info, they told me the doctor hadn't given them the correct diagnosis needed for medicare to pay, and therefore my secondary insurance wouldn't pay. Then after some checking, they "discovered" they did have the correct info. What's the deal with them? Trying to get me to pay for their mistake. I'm disgusted.

Quest Diagnostics Fraudulent billing

For a YEAR, I had a running battle with Quest Diagnostics regarding billing for a set of laboratory tests requested by one of my physicians. When the sent the bill to Blue Cross Blue Shield for reimbursement, Quest used a diagnostic code that was different from what the doctor used on the requesting prescription, AND also they requested the reimbursement in the category of "medical care" instead of "diagnostic pathology." As a result, of course, BCBS denied the claim and Quest sent me a bill for$626.80, which is more than six times the "usual and customary" cost for that set of tests. For a while I went round and round with Quest, then I contacted BCBS and was told that the claim would be paid if Quest resubmitted with appropriate codes. I contacted Quest with this information, but they resubmitted the bill again with the same old codes they had used previously. Finally I contacted my physician and asked her office to intervene on my behalf. It took multiple interventions on my physician's part, including formal appeals to BCBS, before BCBS finally paid the claim. The "allowable amount" turned out to be $98.11, of which I was supposed to be responsible for 10% co-pay and BCBS paid the remaining $88.33 directly to Quest. Elapsed time: one full year. Interestingly, I have not yet received a corrected billing from Quest. I sent them payment along with a copy of BCBS's Explanation of Benefits. We'll see what happens. I don't trust these folks.

We had three experiences wher Quest billed us 6- 18 months after the susposed treatment and tests were done. Every other provider was paid promptly. Quest has changed their reason for sending the bill to us many times. I really believe that they count on people's laziness to look up past medical records or fear of a bad mark on their credit report to get these payments. Once they charged my wife more than the doctor doing the treatment for just being in the room when the sample was taken. My wife insists there was no body else in the room.

Quest Diagnostics Lousy service center

This is the 3rd and final time I am going to that lab! First experience, I waited 3 hours with my 3 year old son in tow. My request for an update on how long it would take was met with, "We don't know. We'll call you when it's your turn." While we waited, the Tyra Banks show came on the flat screen TV in the waiting room. She was interviewing lesbian couples and she was showing video clips of these women passionately French kissing each other. I asked for the manager who was sitting right there at the desk and requested that she change the channel because I felt it was inappropriate content for children to be watching. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Second visit, I submitted the lab slip from my doctor and was told they couldn't make out the handwriting for one of the tests. I told them the name of the test my doctor ordered and they IGNORED me! "We have to call the doctor and verify the name of the test." Once again, I told them the name of the test. They continued to IGNORE me and told me to take a seat. They wasted a bunch of time calling another Quest location after they were put into the voice mail at my doctor's office. Finally, they told me, "The Teterboro, NJ lab will have to call your doctor when they get your blood and ask what test is supposed to be done." INFURIATING! Finally, today, I took my 3 year old son in for blood work and requested the smallest pediatric needle they had. I was told that they only had one size butterfly needle. I had prepared my son for the blood work by telling him what they would do, step by step and helped him practice deep breathing so he would be relaxed. He did fine until the blood stopped flowing and the lab tech started DIGGING AROUND IN HIS ARM FOR THE VEIN! I finally said, "You're killing me! Can you please try his other arm?" She ignored me until my son let out a blood curdling shriek followed by uncontrollable crying! It took 3 of us to hold him down so she could draw the blood from his other arm. Outrageous! Then she put 6 inches of medical tape on top of the gauze on each of his arms before we left. Later that day, he screamed and cried AGAIN as I tried to remove all the tape from his arms. His poor skin was red and swollen from all the excess tape used. Why don't they have competent people working here!

Quest Diagnostics Overbilling uninsured

I am pregnant and have no maternity benefits with my insurance. My doctor negotiated a lower rate to help me out. The hospital negotiates a lower rate to help me. Yet Quest claims they have no such thing and that I must pay in full unless I make under 40K per year for a family of 4! Of course my family of 4 makes more than that as most do. I wish I could simply find some help online about negotiating with these rip off artists.
This is for $1400.00 in lab work charges that I KNOW they would accept 10-20% in a negotiated rate from an insurance company. They typically negotiate that amount with my insurance for their overinflated bills on covered expenses. But they won't negotiate a single penny for an individual on their uncovered expenses (maternity benefits).
They are gouging the "little guy" so bad and I have no idea where to turn to get them to lower their obscene charges!
Does anyone have advice?
This is a nightmare with QUEST!

I also had a similar problem with Quest. I have no insurance as I am retired. I am new to the area so my doctor suggested Quest for my yearly blood work. They charged me $901.86 . I was FLOORED. After which I found another lab and asked what they would charge for the same tests, it was $322.00! If I had been familiar with my area I could have gone there! Talk about ripping off people! How can they get away with this?

Farrah KLP B18 is the worst representative I have ever spoken to. She was rude, unhelpful and acted like she didn't care at all whether a customer came or stayed, and how they felt. She put me on hold indefinitely when I asked to speak with a Supervisor, saying hang tight. I will request for none of my labs to be with them at my doctors. Worst rep ever

they do it because they can get away with it. just like so many crooked banks and corruptions. Make sure when your doctor takes a blood test that the company is not quest diagnostics and ask your doctor the prices of the company he uses.

and to the dumb second comment (crispycreme) millions of americans dont have insurance at no fault of their own. they cant find jobs due to the economy and or cant work due to their medical conditions. And no-one is asking for a handout we are asking not to be ripped off that is what this company is doing their are many other companies who offer the same services for a lot less so obviously quest is doing something wrong. And regardless of how much money people have everyone has the right to have children. Having children is an amazing gift regardless of how much it costs and if people just stopped having children because of money then society would really not be able to function! and all because some people may have a hard time affording children does not mean they should have an abortion and take their lives. I am sure those children would like to be alive being poor then not be alive at all! the problem with the world is not the poor but the ignorant selfish hateful people like yourself. Having children is what makes so many poor suffering people able to go on with their lives and you have no right to tell someone they cant have children!

Quest Diagnostics is horrible. Just like several other people have posted all over the web, they will not negotiate or discount their rates for individuals. I am willing to pay them immediately if they will agree to a 20-30% discount off their "retail" pricing. Our hospital, Ob-Gyn, anesthesiologist, and even the other lab we've used (LabCorp) all offer discounts to self-pay patients. Not Quest. I will never use Quest Diagnostics again and I strongly recommend everyone else avoid them as well. 75% discounts to multi-billion-dollar insurance companies; 0% to individuals. I'm not saying what they're doing is illegal, just plain dumb and (long-term) unwise.

I know this is an old post but I want to reiterate that you should try another lab such as labCorp, Clincal Pathologists etc. If you do have insurance see which other labs you can use besides Quest-they are nothing but a bunch of crooks and will max out their allowable with your insurance company. Discounts should be given for a cash pay people anyway-They are getting paid UPFRONT and do not have to submit claims with insurance which takes time and requires hiring people or an outside company to take care of.

I am with you. I've been through the same with this company, I had to take a blood test that my insurance doesn't covered for my age, unfortunately, I didn't know that quest diagnostic will charge this amount. They asked for 400 hundred dollars, however, my insurance only will pay 53 dollars for the same test, they did that to my husband and this is what he paid.
You can see that is less than 80% of my bill. I asked for a discount and they told me that the don't do this kind of thing.
What do that means? First of all for them the individuals doesn't have any right, pretty sad. The money is the same with insurance or without it. They are abuse with the unisurance person because they can. Really, shame of them.

We have also had the same problem. I have discounted amounts with my doctor, anesthesiologist, and hospital charges, but Quest refuses to make any adjustments. I was charged 300% higher than the negotiated rate with my insurance company - by the way I am insured, but without maternity benefits. Is asking to be charged fairly for the same services asking for a handout? I think not. Perhaps the idiot crispycreamy above likes to pay 3x the amount that others are being charged for the same services simply because their insurance does not cover it.

Same problem with both me and my husband. We had to do some blood tests and urinalysis as a requirement for adopting a child. BlueCrossBlueShield, our insurance, did not cover it, although we didn't know a that time. So Quest has sent us each bill for more than $1000 (about $2200 bot both of us). We have checked online, and other labs in our area have exactly the same standard tests for 11 times less!

They called me to setup a payment plan, but I think this is an outrageously high charge, and have requested them to come bakc with "more reasonable" charges. Anybody has had any success with a similar request? Also, I'm curious what is the worst thing that can happen if I just refuse to pay an arm and a leg for the equivalent of peanuts?

I'm having the same problem! We have medical insurance but just no maternity. Unlike what ignorant crispycreamy said above, I'm not looking for a hand out, I'm asking to be charged fairly! Anyways, I'm getting some hefty bills from Quest on my blood work and I'm just apalled. Let me know how you resolved this situation. Thanks!

Perhaps you should not have any more children if you can not afford them. You are not entittled to a handout just because you got pregnant and do not have insurance. Birth control is much cheeper, try that next time.

Quest Diagnostics Illegal balance billing

Be careful about paying bills from Quest Diagnostics. Both my husband and myself have been "balance billed" by Quest for labwork. Quest is a preferred provider for both our insurance companies. Our insurance companies secure deep discounts from Quest for services (ex. insurance pays $30 when Quest billed for $310). Quest is not happy about this despite the fact that they freely enter into these contracts with the insurance companies when they agree to be preferred providers.

My insurance company has a co-insurance amount for labwork. My husbands does not, so he owes labs nothing for services provided. Quest first sent me a bill for the total amount they billed to the insurance company, and noted on their invoice that I was to remit a copy of my insurance company "explanation of benefits" if it showed I owed a lesser amount. I included the payment I owed per the explanation of benefits, and remitted a copy to Quest patient billing. At that time I thought my business with Quest was done.

Two weeks later I receive another bill from Quest. This bill showed my payment credited to my account, and a balance due for the difference between the entire amount billed and my payment. I called Quest and spoke to an extraordinarily rude individual who advised me to "just pay it" and when I asked to be transferred to customer service, she hung up on me. I called back and spoke to someone else who gave me a fax number and told me to fax a copy of my explanation of benefits to her. I did as I was instructed. My balance was not resolved after two weeks, so I called my insurance company. My insurance company advised me that Quest engaged in "balance billing" and that, after reviewing my records, I did not owe Quest anything other than what was indicated on the insurance explanation of benefits. My insurance company said they would contact Quest about the matter. A week later I received a letter from my insurance company stating that they sent Quest a copy of my explanation of benefits, and that they informed Quest that I owed only the amount per the explanation of benefits.

Today (two weeks later) I receive a letter from Quest advising me that my account is past due and they are going to send it to a collection agency. Their letter also informed me that "based on the explanation of benefits received from [my] insurance company, this balance is [my] responsibility". Funny how MY insurance company told me it wasn't. Guess my insurance company is trying to ruin my credit, huh? More likely Quest is trying to shake me down for the money. I am in the process of writing letters to Quest, my attorney, my insurance company, several news media agencies, my state representatives at the state and federal level, the New York State Health Insurance Department, and the New York State Attorney General's office. Quest has run afoul of the New York State AG before - see http://www.oag.state.ny.us/media_center/2003/jun/jun25a_03.html.

I can only quess that Quest engages in this highly illegal practice as it is so profitable for them. I have the education and the resources to fight this injustice. Quest must find that there are many people who will just fork over the money to avoid a hassle or because they fear collection agencies. Quest has tried to victimize the wrong person this time.

My wife and I both continuously receive invoicing in tandem from quest for yearly routine bloodwork from December 2021. Each time we have to make the daunting phone calls to our insurance carrier BCBS. Each time the customer service agent calls Quest during our session. We receive the same story (verbatim), "The invoice has been taken care of but will take up to six weeks to clear the system. This will be the sixth time since Dec 2021 and we still have no satisfaction. I guessing the upcoming routine visit to Quest will result in a denial of services.

Quest billed me 240 for a pap smear which is 100% covered by my insurance. I messaged several individuals via their website and kept records of the conversations. They had messed up my information completely. My insurance and I both called. They are supposed to re submit the claim. We will see.

I just finally got a grievance going through my insurance company today (April 18th 2022) after I dealt with Quest Diagnostic’s for a bill for $2878.64 that they said sent to my old insurance company Premera, back in October of 2021.

In October (for a July bill) I go “No Premera is my old insurance, you guys are billing the wrong one, my not so new one is Ambetter and has been since July 2020” then they keep sending different bill amounts every single month…that still has my old Premera insurance company on it. Different bills for different amounts (one even being $140 with no insurance company named) to try to get me going on a payment plan.

Then in January they finally sent me the same bill for $2878.64 with “most recent insurance claim filed to Ambetter” in January when in actuality they didn’t even send it to them until 2/28/22.

Judging by multiple claims being present on the same day it looks like I was double billed. So Ambetter covered the submitted request by my naturopathic who had to sent Quest my blood for the labs, but then Quest was trying to collect from me for some reason?

In February Quest then had the audacity to send the bill to collections in my name. I had to conference call them and Ambetter since Quest Diagnostics said my member ID didn’t exist so they couldn’t find me in Ambetters system (even though they had written it on the January bill). I was lucky I recorded the entire conversation and have it transcribed because this is seriously not okay.

Quest Diagnostic’s sent the bill to my insurance February 28th, 2022 AFTER they had spent 5 months trying to collect from me directly, and 2 months of it sitting in collections in my name as I’m looking for work….all after the same service billed from my doctor had been covered.

Can you say fraud? Sure they didn’t get money from me but the hours of time (were talking practically a part time job it felt like) is worth money. The time I spent going into further debt while dealing with this while also trying to find work is unacceptable.

They knew I was unemployed and was no longer receiving unemployment and could barely even pay bills….STILL they were trying to fraud me. There were a view convos I was in tears but they still they kept up the act, whatever it takes to get their money due to not filing it on time/double billing or whatever shady thing is going on here. The stress of thing and finding work together almost had me, I feel less like I’m drowning less today filing the grievance, but I’ll say my mental state severely suffered from Quests intentional scamming.

How do we get a class action lawsuit going? I’ve never sued in my life but this is a soul-less way to do business. Judging by a quick google search too it looks like it might not be the first time for them either. I’m sure there are others that may have been in similar situations to me and it was the thing that tipped them over the edge. This should not be happening to people ever, but especially to someone unemployed without unemployment insurance and still struggling to find work in the middle of this pandemic….

If a class action lawsuit does occur from all of this greedy deception, anyone with details please email me at saveonwforests@gmail.com

I'm currently going back and forth with Quest about a recent bill for some bloodwork. They are trying to bill me for "non-billable" work according to my insurance company. I do not have a copy of my invoice since they don't provide anything, just a balance due and a way to pay it. They are trying to bill me $500 for a service that my EOB is showing only $150 is due. When I first called Quest, they told me I had to reach out to my insurance company. My insurance immediately called Quest when I reached out, and said that they were trying to bill me for work that was "non-billable" per their contact. My insurance faxed over their contract and told me I should receive a new bill from Quest. I have not received that bill, and was jerked around via email when I reached out to Quest asking when I should get the new bill. At the moment, they are trying to say that my insurance denied part of the service and want another copy of my EOB. The insurance didn't deny anything, Quest just doesn't want to fulfill their portion of their contractual agreement and wants to get their money from their patients. I really hope I never have to use Quest ever again. Illegal business practices all around.

Reading all the comments here, I am really scared. At the time of my blood draw the woman doing the draw said I owed money so I thought I was paying her $84.00 for the draw, she said nothing about putting my card in their system and that I was authorizing them to take money from my account at a later date.
So, I am going to my bank and file a fraud charge on them and close my debit card out and get a new number.
If I don't, I'm likely going to get a "balancing" bill which will come in my email the same day they do another withdraw from my account. What is super strange is I have an online account with Quest and was able to see what the original bill was before it cleared the insurance company. Now, that is gone and I need a Billing Account number to get into my own billing but was never given an Account number as I don't get the Paper Bill. So, I can't even go online and see if I can withdraw my "Auto Deduct" that I never authorized willingly but was led into via deceptive business practice.

Hi. I went in for a blood draw on 12/15/2021. The woman that did the draw asked for insurance card and she did her computer entry real quick and then said I owed $84.00. I still had not received the blood draw but I trusted her and gave her my bank card. I thought she was taking the payment.
Well, the amount was never deducted from my bank so I called billing with a sinking feeling. The CSR was very ignorant and could not follow what I was trying to say; that I thought something wasn't right about the "transaction" I thought I made. She said a supervisor would call me back by the next day but nobody did.
Anyways, today I checked my email out and saw an email from Quest. They said my bill was ready and I owed $25.07 based on my insurance. So, I thought I could just pay online but can never open that part of my online account because you need an Account number which they never gave me. I just happened to open my Bank Account up and saw a Deduction for $25.07 from Quest.
I never authorized this knowingly, but obviously that deceptive woman who took my blood, must be getting incentives of some kind to get our Card numbers on file and most people won't do it. She told me point blank that I owed $84.00 and needed to pay so I thought I was doing that. I should have known better, as I thought $84 was kind of high for my insurance I have.

I would like to file a Deceptive Business practice or something. I don't care if it was only $25.07. It bothers me they have my card number. I am calling them tomorrow to see how I can have it removed but my guess is they will say they will do it, but How will I ever know for sure?

So, I am going to close that card due to fraud (cuz that is what this is) to ensure they can never get access to my bank account again.

I also have been being overbilled by this company. I have contacted them and given them proof of payment as least 5 times. We are a private pay client and pay up front for a time of service discount. I have documentation showing we paid this in full at time of service. When calling them, they try to tell me this is an additional charge and I am not understanding my statement. Well, little did they know that I am a Cycle Revenue Administrator for a large healthcare organization and I understand coding and billing much better than the general population. When I called her out on this, she transferred me to a supervisor. My bill is still not resolved to this day. Worst company EVER! I will never give them my business or refer any of our thousands of patients to this company.

I have had the same issue with Quest illegally balance billing me. It is NOT an occasional mistake either, but every single time I have had testing at my Dr's office over the last several years. It has to be deliberate. Also, as stated throughout the thread, their customer service agents know NOTHING and aren't even worth calling (and they're rude and arrogant to boot). All they are going to tell you is to fax them a copy of the EOB. First, who has a fax machine anymore... LOL? Second, THEY RECEIVED THE EOB WHEN THEY GOT PAYMENT, why is this even necessary?

Just so you understand the enormous amounts they are over-billing, I'll just mention the amounts from my last 2 encounters and move on: 5/2019 testing (billed $160; I owe $8) and the 7/2019 testing (billed $533; I owe $21)

So this time I thought I'd be smart and just avoid the stress - As soon as I received the erroneous bill, I mailed the correct amount due along with a copy of the EOB. After all, their own invoice says to do just that right under the "Amount Enclosed" box. Additionally, I highlighted the EOB copy calling out the pertinent info: "Amount Allowed" and "Remarks/Codes". The remarks/codes area especially relevant because they clearly state "REQUIRES PROVIDER TO ACCEPT ALLOWABLE AS FULL PAYMENT". Then I draw a arrow between two. I am thinking, anyone who is literate can understand this and the issue should be closed. But no, 3 - 4 weeks later I get another bill still trying to get payment for the additional $160. In another week or two, I fully expect to get another bill for $480.

I am not even going to touch that they are charging such INSANE amounts for testing. I'll just note that both were for run of the mill testing (urinalysis and general health bloodwork). That's another fight for another day, but them billing me like this is definitely illegal.

I could have written this! I have the exact same complaint. I’ve had it and will fight these balance billing charges to get refunded for the money they deducted from my credit card, and the money I was forced to pay yesterday, as they refused to draw my blood without my paying a bill I did not owe!

Quest Diagnostics Unsafe and unclean patient practices

Quest lab tech did NOT open the needle and syringe in front of me, he took them out of a box, already opened. After drawing my blood, he dropped the gauze on the counter and then picked it up to put on my wound.
The place was shabby, dirty and very unclean. I am furious that I didn't realize what was going on. Blood diseases can be very serious and even fatal (like HIV).
I am very unhappy and complaining as much as I can.
