Outback Steakhouse review: Lakewood, CA Outback Manager

Dear Outback,

On 8/13/23 at 2:30 PM, my party of 7 visited the Lakewood, CA Outback restaurant and experienced a very racist attack from the Jared, whom identified himself as the General Manager. During the course of our visit, it was observed that Manager Jared created a hostile environment for patrons, by segregating the patrons-and thus allowing for preferential treatment and seating of the white patrons.

Specifically, we asked Jared to be seated in the opening dining area, where the white patrons were seated. My party was denied access to the section and informed that the area was for another party. Jared instructed that we would have to be sat in the back of the restaurant near the service entry. When we expressed concerns regarding this treatment, Jared stated “do not note racism to me. And, if you complain regarding the service the Regional/District Manager is my friend and I will just call him ahead of time to tell him to disregard your feedback. There is nothing that will be done to rectify your concerns, so either you deal with the setting or you can get out”. Please be advised that Jared’s treatment of myself and the other patrons was abhorrent. He was hostile and belligerent. His conduct was beyond unprofessional as was he abusive and entitled. Overall, his demeanor and mannerisms lack empathy and denotes the basic ability of problem solving. All of which is greatly needed to properly manage a restaurant and build equity in relationships with the public. Jared’s comments and actions reflect racist practices, which should not be tolerated by any establishment, and specifically Outback. The customers and staff need a professional, kind manager of Outback in Lakewood. Unfortunately, Jared is both unkind and extremely vulgar and racist.
