charged $ on refund
O'rieilly Auto parts sold ignition coils for GM 3.8L v-6.
Looked on internet and said these coils are for Honda, (had less resistance than OEM) The GM OEM version has higher resistance and high performance versions have even higher resistance.
Returned items to O'rieilly parts store, manager at Franklin Park did return transaction took back coils, but processed the transaction as a charge to card rather than refund. Did not notice until later, this is when I new manager was a punk!
Had to go back to the store and deal with assistant manager later that day.
bad experience
I had a bad experience at the Rochester Indiana O'Reily store a year ago and I told the attendant that was my last day inside the store in which she replied Ok.I tried to return a wrong part and learned about O'Reilys policies. I simply won't go back. There is a Napa Store across the street and a Auto Zone just down the street whom seem to like me buying from them. I simply do not understand the attitude of todays business that view the loss of one persons business as part of doing business. I do alot of my own Auto work maybe they are right I really do not matter that much in the over all big picture.
discrimination / unfair treatment
My name is willis l. Price. I am a former o’reilly employee by my own choice. I began working as a delivery driver for the company on february 4, 2008 at store #680. At the time of my employment, i was informed that i would have the opportunity to move up within the company; be it at this store or at one of the other stores. I resigned on march 6, 2009. During my 13 month tenure with the company i experienced many instances of discrimination and disparate treatment. Following is my summary of many of the events that occurred. (Please note: some items documented are to provide a picture of the overall working atmosphere at o’reilly.)
Working at store #680 (The hub) was an experience in itself. There was a very big turnover because of the working environment. This place was very dirty; the upstairs portion was an ashtray to say the least. There were cigarette butts everywhere, there were butts on the shelves and tossed on top of the shelving units below. My manager and most guys and women that were smokers would always do this; if the guys working the counter had to go upstairs to get a part for a customer, you can pretty much guarantee that it was going to be a smoke break. The so called break room was a pig pen; the fridge had stuff in it from employees that were long gone. I remember asking my manager why the break room was so nasty. His response was, “why don’t you clean it up; so i did. That did no good because the employees would throw their trash on the floor or leave it on the table after they ate. There were times when the trash can would be running over and they would still stack trash on top of the trash. I would inform the manager and once again his response was “i don’t care, i don’t eat up there”. I was starting to get the picture real fast.
Well after busting my ###, doing a great job and seeing employees coming and going, i was asked by my manager if i would like to be third in charge of the hub with a whopping. 50¢ / hr pay increase. All this meant was that you would very seldom have to go out on runs anymore unless someone did not show up for work or was late, which was quite often. Well before i had even taken this assignment, i was already helping brenda and john check in the truck on occasion. If i were doing runs, i would pull the totes from the top of the pallet for them. This was due to the totes being stacked higher and heavier than what the standard requirements were. It was unbelievable how heavy some of those totes were and this was an everyday thing. There were times when we would receive in forty to fifty totes daily and had to have them checked in and put out front for the guys to put away. What a joke; why?, because we busted our ### to get stuff checked in and take to the front only to come back the next morning and see the totes still sitting right where we had put them. That was strange because according to policy all merchandise must be put up before employees leave the store, but not this store.
There was a truck that had been wrecked before i started working at this location. I asked an employee why it wasn’t fixed and they responded by saying “someone” had a wreck in it. I will tell you why it was not reported; within the o’reilly auto parts stores that i have worked at and delivered to there are quite a few employees that do illegal drugs. This i know for a fact as i have been told by the employee (S) doing the drugs themselves. As third in charge and trying to do the right thing for the company, i had expressed to my manager on several occasions that if you would not let the employee go to their vehicles or home prior to being sent for a drug test you may see for yourself how many of the employees were on drugs. The manager did no investigation and would not even check out the situation with the employee in question. I did realize that had i gone up through the chain of command there would have been a good possibility that i would have lost my job.
While working in the hub they rehired a black woman who was nothing but trouble since she was there the last time. Anyway, i became somewhat friends with her and then found out she was a major pot head. This woman had her boyfriend come up to the job to beat me up without my knowing; although everyone that i worked with knew about it including hank which was my manager and brian matthews my district manager. Their reasoning for not telling me was that he said he knew him and he was not like that, it was her. This did not make me feel any better, what if he had done something to me while i was walking to my vehicle? Then what would my manager and district manager have said, what would he tell my wife if i was seriously injured or killed, explain that.
Ok, back to me obtaining a different position within the company, this gets good. I had shown interest in moving to the front counter, i was told by my manager that it’s a good possibility that they may have a spot for me with the hours that i had inquired about. I was excited and told my wife that i could be getting out of the hub pretty soon. This was my goal to move up slowly yet as quick as i could. Well everything fell into place, the position came available and then i was told that the hours were no longer available. You tell me then why can an older white man come in and negotiate his hours which allowed him to go play golf in the mornings and stop by the local slot game houses pretty much every morning, but me being black was not allowed to pursue the same type of hours. Once again i was informed about another opening at this location and what the hours were and what the job involved. I was passed over again for a white female employee who was a driver that could no longer drive because of medical reasons. She gets the job and i find out from her that she will only be in this position for around three months. So why then would you waste your time putting someone in a position and training them knowing that they were not going to stay in it? She should have been placed in the hub to help pull orders and put up stock. I have done merchandising for a major company some years ago. I have done complete resets and also handled specialty food products all over south texas, but i was not qualified for the job. I’m starting to realize that a black man was not going anywhere within this company and in this district. So now i’ve been passed over twice for employees with less experience and ambition and the drive that i have. So here we go. This is when i learned that there was another player in the game. He was none other than the snake brian matthews. I hadn’t had any dealings with this guy at all, but i soon found out a lot about him. You either played on his team by his rules or you weren’t going to play at all. Yep this guy could charm anyone, strictly a ladies man and he had no shame getting to the point and asking them out for lunch or let’s go somewhere after work this is how one employee ended up getting a dui after going out drinking with him. The employee had a little too much to drink. Why didn’t he offer to drive her home or call a cab and pay for it and if needed the employee would pay him or the company back somehow. Was i there, no i was not but word travels fast within o’reilly, trust me, do not judge me by saying this is hearsay because there’s a lot more to come. Mr. Matthews would always walk up to certain women and touch them on the shoulders or give them a little squeeze. He once asked a female employee what kind of work does you boyfriend do. The woman did not show her dismay towards him but she did show it to a few of us here. Exact words were, “it ain’t non of his f*****g business what my man does for work and if that mother****** ever puts his hands on me again i’ll get his ### for sexual harassment. ” he does not know to this day that the employee at hand is the one that got the dui. But to move up in the company; after the lady that was first in charge resigned and i refused to take the hub position; she was more than eager to fill the position.
Let’s take a step back may we. After my so called hub manager resigned, i was asked if i would like the position and that it would be salaried position which would involve working around forty - five to fifty hours per week. I was told the job was mine in fact. Then i had employees at store #680 and other stores telling me personally that the job at hand had been offered to them. Needless to say i was disgusted by this so after discussing this with my wife we realized that the best thing for me would be to decline the offer and transfer to another store. Well after everyone turned them down cold, including the young lady that is now the hub manager, they come back to me as a last resort. I’ll never forget that morning. Here comes my manager smiling. Willis do you still want the hub manager position? Nope i said i just want to get out of this hub. Talk about pissed, he was. The look on his face said it all.
He then starts to question me and tell me this is what you wanted and now you’re saying no. Now here comes the threat. Well this is your last chance. I stood my ground and he didn’t say a word to me for almost two weeks. Brian matthews would insult you by saying if you learn how to mix paint and learn how to turn rotors i will give you an extra quarter per hour for each of those. Let’s talk about team member development plan, what a joke. I believe that i’ve never received anything less than a four on my evaluations and when asked what my career goals are, i always put to move into marketing after i stop racing. I also stated that people who worked in the corporate office should introduce themselves to the employees in the hub. My first encounter with one of the unknown was none other than malcolm; this was my first and only experience with this ###. I was interrogated about a large amount of parts that i had purchased. Not a problem as all of the parts in question was for my race car. A 1985 monte carlo ss dirt track car; i was completely redoing all of the suspension, brakes and lines, calipers, well you get the picture. I felt like i was on trial for murder. I suppose he thought that i was either selling the parts or repairing people’s cars. Wrong, i am the owner and driver of a dirt track team and car. This is my fifth season and i was so excited about working at o’reilly that i put huge stickers on the top of my trunk area and on both front fenders but never named the company as a sponsor. So happens my car was voted the best looking care in the nation for the month of june 2008.
It just seemed that the corporate people felt that we were nothing compared to them. I myself am by no means an idiot; i’m educated both in law and real estate and have had dealings with some of the top motorsports organizations in this country. Sometimes i would bring a photo album when they would question my dealings, oh well i know what i’ve done and whom i’ve had professional dealings with, this is why i had aspirations to be in marketing. Did i just mention the word professional, ha! That word i believe was tabbed from mr. Chubb o’reilly himself. It’s an absolute travesty that what he set forth for his company does not exist. Most of the store managers hire a woman that is willing to do whatever they say. Here’s a good example, store #1700, a woman by the name of stephanie / steph. She would wear her shirts untucked with only the bottom two buttons closed. She always wears a tank top with her breasts bursting out of the top. This is everyday and nothing was done about it because i was told that she goes out to dinner and drinking with the district manager and that they have slept together. Well i did ask her about the rumors and she did not deny any of it. So i made a comment saying you slept with brian and she stated that he wasn’t all that. Last year when her one year review came up she was very pissed because she only got a twenty - seven cent raise. She told me that she had to get out of his district and tried to move to the store where i had transferred to. She asked me if i could help her do a resume and i responded yes. She came by and my wife did it for her. (We still have the resume in case she denies it) she was also pissed at ashley from store #547 saying that she was trying to talk to her man and that she was going to the store to kick her ###. I said what is that going to prove, and she stated that i don’t know what the f*** she wants with my man. She’s brian’s new piece of ### - in other words steph was no longer number one and now ashley has been prompted to hub manager. Steph was on probation in tarrant county for drugs of some sort, she came up dirty on a ua and she was going to be retested a few days later. She called me while at work and asked if she could borrow some money so that she could go to walgreens and get a test to see if she was clean because she had smoked some ice. This is not a lie because she had also told another employee about this. I had purchased this woman some jeans and socks when we were told that we could not long wear shorts anymore because the season was over. I do have witnesses to this and i do still have the receipt and yes my wife does know about this because i let her know while i was on my way to the store. So let’s not have any bull s*** about me trying to get in her pants because i told my wife about every dime that i loaned this woman. Needless to say she came up with every kind of excuse not to pay me. I could go on and on about this woman, but let’s get back to store #680.
We had an employee transfer to the hub, she would take forever on her routes eat and drink and spill food and drinks in the company vehicles. She actually convinced brian matthews to change the rules about this matter because she refused to stop eating and drinking in the vehicle. Brian and hank came up with a solution to allow employees to carry a ice chest in the back of their trucks and that we could eat and drink during our stops damn, this was not part of the company policies. Just goes to show you what you can do if you’re white and a woman. That store had pot heads and pot dealers and former meth heads. I saw drug deals transacted within a foot of me. I even saw an employee go to their vehicle and get a bag of pot for an employee that had gotten off of work and came back to work to pick up pot. Guys and women alike would come to work high and drunk, don’t think the manager didn’t know it. How could he not especially since his assistant day manager smelled like a walking beer can. He was fully aware of it because you could smell it on him. When i was third in charge we had an employee come in one morning a few minutes late. She walked in and her eyes were glassy as hell. She was speeding around the place and licking her lips and could not look you in the eyes. She was allowed to drive a company vehicle. This was one of our former meth heads except she was on it that morning. The same person would speed in the vehicles, be on her phone talking to her daughter and son and boyfriend and of course nothing was done about that because she would flirt with the right people and is still employed by the company today, check that, heard from a reliable that brian had his new girl ashley fire her. Her daughter has even been promoted to iss which is in store set up at the store that she works at, and she hasn’t even been employed by o’reilly a year yet. Man, just be a white woman that goes out to lunch and have drinks with your district manager and just look what you can accomplish however she can no longer drive due to her night out drinking with brian matthews. I had asked brian if i could transfer to another store and he said yes if i could find an opening and there were enough people in the hub. Bingo, got my break, opening at store #726, i would be out of the hub and away from brian matthews and my manager who had still not done my six month review. More about this later. Going to another store and district and manager was a blessing at first. I figured i’d give everyone chance as i always have. Beverly summeral, what can i say, she is truly one of the best superiors that i have ever had the pleasure to work with. She was very fair and listened plus she would respond and investigate any situation at hand. Beverly is an example of what mr. Chub o’reilly meant by professional and other employees should follow her lead. She saw how hard i worked in the hub and welcomed me to her team with open arms and i thank her for that. If she had still been our district manager, i would still be working for o’reilly, as as you will see in the short time after she left and the snake, brian matthews took over it became the boys club all over abain. Let me enter mr. Mike chapman, this man was very respectful of all of his employees, he would speak and greet you with a firm handshake and even ask you how are things going. I wish i had gone to him about some of the things that were going on within the company, but you have to remember that this is the boys club and if you stepped on their toes they would cut yours off at the leg. They would get even and then some day at store #726. I was assigned to ride with the happy hooker lacey mungia, this name is well deserved as you will see. As we pull out of the driveway of the store she has phone in hand and is texting which i realize is something that she does all day every day were driving and after a few stops she tells me i’m not wearing any panties and i need to know why this is. I also find out from her that a lot of guys that work at the commercial accounts in which we services she claims want her. Needless to say she has slept with quite a few of them. My first couple of weeks she pulled some stunts on me, she would come to me and say willis what time are you getting off today, knowing quite well my hours because they are posted right by the office. If i were getting off at five o’clock she’d say can you work until six, i’d say yea only to find out that she has taken off, she would tell the manager ben that i said that i would work until six and he would let her leave. That happened three time and never again. It’s pretty sad that the manager knows that she does this to people and did nothing about it.
An older man named tommy said she did the same thing to him when he started there. Every time that beverly or mike chapman would come to the store unannounced the first thing out of lacey’s mouth would be what in the f*** is she or he doing here. Why in the f*** didn’t somebody tell me that they were coming. This is because she followed non of the rules / polices set forth by m. Chubb o’reilly. Shirt untucked all the time this girl’s mouth would make a sailor blush. She would use profanity towards employees and commercial customers. I got cussed out by the little ### more times than i care to remember. This girl would belch really loud and pass gas right in you face and laugh about it. Ben would do pretty much nothing. His resolution was always you guys need to get along and figure something out. He would not take charge and do his job as a manager. I had never in my life been subjected to this type of verbal abuse fro many employee. She was allowed to punch in, get in the company truck and ust take off and disappear without saying a word to anyone of course ben didn’t know because he wasn’t at work. She came in one morning and was complaining about her car, so she gets in a truck takes off and comes back with a passenger, she went to one of our commercial accounts and picked up one of the owners at advance tire and auto, totally against company policy. The guy took her care back to his business for repair. She didn’t even ask for permission because she didn’t have to. She had ben in her pocket and wraped around her little finger. This girl could throw parts in the back of her delivery truck, speed in it, wreck a truck without having to file a report or take a drug test. I took pictures of the truck that will be sent with this letter. Why wasn’t anything done about the incident? Because ben allowed her to do whatever she wanted to do. There were actual witnesses to this unreported accident, it happened at one of the commercial customers accounts. The place is called corvettes north, scott parrish and ej forrest saw this transpire. . We had a bbq at ben’s house on one saturday night, lacey got really drunk and was swearing all over the place. Well at one point it was just she and i on the patio and she made a comment to me that she wanted to make out with ben. I brushed it aside as no big deal, well couple of hours later she say it again, except it was like this – i wish all these people would get the f*** out of here so that i can make out with ben. This leads me to believe that this would not be their first rodeo together. She also told me that she and ben had smoked pot together and that dino also smoked pot, but that his doctor gives him stuff so that if they ever test him that he would come up clean. Now since everyone pretty much believes everything that lacey says, will they now believe this. This girl after she transferred to another store #700 – she said to an employee when she saw me pull up in the truck that she used to drive, she said i can’t believe that ### is driving my truck. The employee responded to her comment by saying that she should not have said that and that this was not her truck and that it belongs to o’reilly. That employee told me about the incident in front of another employee so i have a witness. Needless to say when i mentioned this to brian matthews i was assured that he would investigate. Yeah right!. She is still working at that store and this is even after she wrecked another truck. She was given a drug test which was diluted and given a chance a week later to be clean. Don’t say that this is a lie, like i’ve stressed here employees talk a lot including the district managers. She wrecks two trucks, calls me a ### and still is employed by o’reilly. I will have these witnesses brought forth when the time comes. This girl was a thief, she would take cash money from a commercial account and most of the time not return their change instead pocket it. I know this for a fact because when i would make a delivery to them they would ask me if i had their change. I in turn would say who did you give your money to, well you know the answer. Lets add some more, drive right, one of #726’s biggest commercial accounts – lacey sleeps with one of the mechanics there. He drops her after sleeping with her in only a couple of days. She is blowing his phone up texting and calling him all day long. Well the owner tyler is so pissed about what is going on that he confronts me and asks me if i know anything about this. Of course i did because she told me everything. He was ready to fire the mechanic because there were police officers coming to his shop asking questions about lacey. Needless to say lacey was not allowed to go to drive right for quite a while. The store almost lost a major account because of her and once again nothing was to her. Ben must have really cared about this piece of ###. She would openly tell us and most of the commercial accounts that she has stds. This is not a lie, this girl also lied on one of the accounts, crawford and bargus saying that the owner rick had said to her, i can’t believe o’reilly hired that ### and what were they thinking when they hired that ###. This was told directly to an employee at store #726 whom in turn told me.
I called human resources and had the employee explain this to them, however nothing was done. Some of the first things that i noticed at store #726 was that everyone pretty much has their cell phones either on them or in their trucks and so did i. When i worked at store #680 i carried my cell because we had no radios, well here we did have radios in our trucks. Hell, how could the manager say to you no cell phones when he would be doing returns and talking and texting. There were people smoking in the office (Steven good) in the early morning hours they would also smoke by the back door inside the building and put their cigarette butts in brake dust where they turn rotors. That was ben’s ashtry. Steven good’s ashtray was right across from the office on a shelf in some type of cup. It would sometimes get knocked over and it was gross. I have pictures of all of this, even cigarette butts that are still under the shelves. These will be given to mr. Mike chapman to see first hand. Doing deliveries and filling out your trip sheet did not reflect how hard you worked although some of us worked a lot harder than others. Example bernardino garza’s fake back injury, my god, i have seen it all. This guy would call in and say i have just taken my pain medication and i’m not going to make it. He did this numerous times, he would come to work and then find an excuse to leave. He missed more days than were allowed by company policy and had threatened to sue and had an attorney and they were scared. This guy would come in late and sometimes bring his lunch with him punch in and then take his lunch on the clock, nothing was said. He was allowed to take one item to deliver and walk out the door, nothing said. Here the shelf is full of deliveries and guess who gets to deliver it all, me. This usually occurred when he and i had to work together or even when there was enough drivers he would still pull this stunt. The commercial guys would say just look at it this way – that’s less s*** for him to f*** up. Come on now, so the rest of us pick up the slack and bust our butts so that you guys didn’t have to worry about him filing some type of suit on the company. So what in the hell do you think i am getting at here. By the time you finish reading this you will clearly understand the jest of this letter. I believe that i actually punched out for lunch maybe twice in six months. Hell when did you have time to eat lunch, steven goode would send lacey out in the mornings in the company truck to pick up breakfast for him and her. I was instructed daily to pick up lunch in the company truck by steven goode for most of the employees in the store. Yes i would get myself something but had to eat it on the run. I explained to store manager ben that this had gotten out of hand, he said that he would have a talk with steven goode, but it did no good. Working from 7:30 am to 4:00pm and sometimes 5:00pm without being allowed to take your allotted one hour lunch. Can you say wage and labor board? I can. There was an affair going on between two employees that got way out of hand. Disagreements, fighting and sexual harassment plus stalking, nobody was fired. Instead the guy was transferred to another store but still kept his job. Man just to be white has it's benifits in o'reilly. There was a guy that lived right around the corner that was a key carrier that could not come to work on time because he would get drunk the night before and come to work still drunk, not hung over. This guys drawer would come up short at close they they did write him up a couple of times, but i do know that he got a dollar an hour raise for being a drunk and a thief because he told me. After a heavy night of drinking on saturday the key carrier was supposed to report to work on sunday morn. Well he called steven the asst. Mgr. And said that he couldn't make it. Asst mgr. Calls ben mgr. , ben calls the key carrier bobby, bobby used lots of profanity towards ben and comes in and slams down his keys on the counter and uses a few choice words then storms out of the store. Now after all of this ben tells steve a couple days later, if bobby had of come and talked to me about what the problem was, we could have worked something out and he could still kept his job. Damn, now bobby can still go right around the corner and continue to purchase and warranty parts from o'reilly. I did none of these things and are not allowed to set foot in any store that is in brian matthew's district, and all i did was answer a question that he asked me. The week before i resigned they hired a woman that had worked for napa auto parts. She tells me that she had not had a job for three years and couldn’t find one. She gives me this long story about her husband going to prison for transporting meth and that she had no idea that he was involved in such dealings. It didn’t take me but a few seconds after she told me the story that she was a meth head. I could see it by the way she kept shifting her lower jaw from side to side. This is a tell - tell sign of a meth monster. Brian brought her in to move her up the ladder and she will move up because this is how the company is run. I have had my battle with drugs and it’s all in the open on my application and i didn’t hide a single thing. I spent ten years on probation for my crimes and drug use, never had a dirty ua, never missed approbation appointment in ten years. But you have employees working at every one of your stores that are using and selling illegal drugs and are under the influence and these are the types of people that climb the ladder. It seems to me that certain people within your organization do not want to see honest hard working aspiring black people move forward within the company. I wasn’t asking for much, just to be respected and rewarded for my hard working and being a team player. I know of a hispanic employee that had an accident in a company vehicle, they failed their drug test and were given a chance a week later to redeem themselves, but they still failed. Is it company policy to allow an employee to have multiple chances to pass a drug test? I truly believe had this been myself, i’d have been terminated on the spot. I had expressed interest in returning to my previous position at o’reilly but was however told by ben that he would have to check it out with brian matthews.
I left on good terms, i thought. I was constantly told that “willis you rock, all i hear is compliments about you from the accounts”. Well i know this to be true because i have i believe twelve letters of appreciate from all of store #726 commercial accounts but you would have to think about rehiring me. I, out of curiosity asked ben what my pay was per hour before i resigned – he said $8. 00 per hour – i took a pay cut when i came to his store but was never informed so then i realized why he never pushed hank to send over my 6 month evaluation from store #680. I was also told by ben that he was trying to get me a dollar an hour raise while beverly was our district manager. He told me that she was cool with it and that it was going to happen. Well once i found out that brian matthews was going to be our district manager i knew that there was no way in hell that i was going to get that kind of a raise. I expressed to ben that we needed to get this done before brian takes over. Are you kidding, this guy drags his feet on everything unless it’s for him or his buddy. My one year review was thirty days late and i received it two days before my last day at o’reilly. I found out that there were eight reviews that were past due and six were at store #726. Not a surprise. How can you call yourself a manager when you come to work late every day? Your schedules hours say one thing but you show up one to one and a half hours every day. But never fear old steve good will lie for you to beverly when she would ask him what time did ben get here and he was always quick to cover for him. But he sure would talk about him behind his back everytime that he was late and take bets on what time he’d get there. During my last week at o’reilly i found out from ben that i had said things behind his back about him which was a total lie told by steve good to cover his own ###. My last three weeks at store #726 were pure hell. It was friday the thirteenth, i’ll never forget it myself. Steve and ronnie everage are in the store, it’s around 7:40am and miguel calls from store #700 needing an alternator which we had in stock. Steve instructs me to take it over to their store which i responded, let me finish putting the statement with the return tickets and then i’ll go. Needless to say our fearless manager would not be here today because he is sick. Then i asked him don't they have a driver that can come and pick this up? I had some items on the shelf that needed to be delivered to our accounts and going to that store was going to put me behind. Ronnie told steve that the hub driver is going to be here in about ten to fifteen minutes. Steve told me to go anyway so i did. I get to the store, go to the back door and beat on it and no one answers. So out of frustration i threw the alternator in the back of my truck. An employee saw me do this and i didn't deny it. I dropped the part off and go back to my store. I start doing my runs. Later on ben shows up and calls me outside. He says did you throw a alternator and i said yes. Then he said did steve explain to you what’s going on and i said no. Anyway i was given a first and final and i was very pissed off about that because nothing was explained to me how this process worked and how they came to this conclusion. I was just left in the dark so to speak. Ben didn’t give a s*** because he was mad that he had to come in and do this. Steve lied and told ben that he had already talked to me. A few days later when i tried to discuss this matter with ben, i was told to get over it and it is what it is. So let me explain how this is going to play out for o’reilly auto parts. Anyway, i left the company in pursuit of other employment, and things did not work out the way i had hoped they would. A few months passed and i had expressed an interest to my former manager ben about coming back to work at o’reilly. He would not give me a direct answer even though he knew that i was a very good employee. I had applied at another store in mansfield texas and the manager took my resume and looked it over and he seemed very interested especially when some of the employees knew who i was and they had told the manager that we could use him. Well i waited a couple of days and decided to go back to that store. Boy what a difference in attitude, the manager would not even look me in the face and told me that we don’t have anything here for you. I felt like i was back in the 1960's do i need to say that i was in brian matthew’s district / a few days later i went to talk to ben about rehiring me, well to my surprise he told me if it were up to him he would hire me back in a heartbeat, but brian matthews ain’t going to let me. I told ben you have to be kidding and ben told me i know brian better than you do and that was the end of our conversation. I was a bit puzzled so while on my way home i decided to go and have a civil talk with brian matthews at store #680 on matlock rd. I walked in and he was talking to one of his managers named marco. I suppose that he could tell by the look on my face that i was not too happy, so he says what’s on your mind? I said to him who makes the decision on being rehired at o’reilly? His response was human resources.
I said to him that i was told that you said that i could not be rehired, he told me again i don’t make these decisions that human resources does. Next thing he says to me is do you think i am lying. I said yes. This is all that was said, if he didn’t want to hear the truth then he shouldn’t ask. I told him as i was leaving his office that we’ll see what eeoc has to say about this and he responded i don’t care, you can go to eeoc all you want and that was the end of that so i thought. Well like the snake he is, he called my former store and told them that i was no long welcome on the property. This was told to me by brenda nash not by ben bearden which was standing there when i had stopped by the store a few weeks later. I was fine with not being able to go to that store no big deal, but when i go to store #1700 on new york ave. , less than a half mile from my home and am told that i am not allowed to be on the property and if i refuse to leave to call the police on me and have me removed. Now you talk about going too far just because you ask me a question and i tell you the truth you then decide to ban me from all o’reilly stores in your district. Now as you can see this is how it's done within o'reilly auto parts, brian calls hr. And tells them what he want's them to know and not the entire story. No one even contacted me to here my side they instead just agreed with the white man, and i thought we had freedom of speech in this country. Bobby sure did at store #726 let’s see here, i am a consumer that has purchased a few thousand dollars in parts from this company and a lot of them are still under warranty. So brian matthews has taken it into his own hands with help from the hr department to satisfy his ego. As a consumer or former employee i have not made any physical or verbal threats toward any employee or to company property i have been purchasing parts from o’reilly auto parts before i started working for them and will continue to do so. Brian matthews nor does the hr department have the right to ban me from any stores period. I have done nothing wrong except spoken the truth and brian matthews being a white male is in no way going to have a black man tell him the truth about himself. Like i told mr. Brian matthews i will let the eeoc take care of the matter. I am willing to subject myself to a lie detector test at my own expense to prove that i am speaking the truth. Let’s see if mr. Matthews is willing to do the same to clear his name and prove to the company of o’reilly auto parts that he has not in any way broken the rules withing the company such as taking women to lunch and having alcoholic beverages and asking them out to dinner and various other indecent proposals. I have people that are willing to step forth and speak up on this matter so let’s see if mr. Matthews is willing to put his job and reputation on the line. I don’t want my job back because it’s not worth the headache and besides i’m too old to be playing games with a prejudice racist, however i do want all of my back pay for not taking lunches at store #726 because i know for a fact i may have punched out twice in six months and i also want to be able to warranty all my parts at any store that i want to, especially since i was a consumer before i even started working at o’reilly and will continue to be a consumer for the rest of my life. I really had ambitions to be in motorsports marketing within this company however there was no way that they were even going to give me a chance because of the color of my skin. I have dealt with teams / owners in all types of motorsports all over this country from nascar, cart, irl, ihra, nhra, ascs and the imca. Man some people really know how to put an end to other people’s dreams just to satisfy their own ego. Everything that happens here will be done by the book within the legal system and i do realize that it does start with eeoc.
Mr. Chubb o'reilly has a slogan in all of his stores behind all parts counters on the wall. It reads professional parts people, so what happened to his dream of employees being professional in every aspect and to represent the company in a positive way. I carried myself in a professional manner and also dressed the part and was well groomed and tucked in my shirt and wore a belt.
REALLY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPANY BUT IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM! THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEES ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE AT THE BOTTOM! MANAGEMENT IS ALL ABOUT THEMSELVES AND ONLY WANT THEIR EMPLOYEES TO WORK HARDER TO MAKE MORE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES AND THE COMPANY, THAT WAY THEY GET MORE PERKS FOR THEIRSELVES! "TRUE FACT" SINCE I HAVE LEFT THAT C****Y ### COMPANY I HAVE PURCHASE 4 NEW VEHICLES AND TWO HOMES, ONE BUILT FROM THE GOUND UP! SO IN OTHER WORDS MOVE ON CAUSE LIFE IS MUCH BETTER WITHOUT THE ### KISSERS THAT YOU WORKED WITH AND FOR! LOL! I ACTUALLY BUY MY PARTS AT AUTO ZONE THESE DAYS, SAME FREAKING WARRANTY! :)
WOW! THIS MUST BE ASHLEY, FUNNY THING IS I HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING BAD ABOUT YOU PERIOD! OH WELL YOU WEREN'T THERE SO HOW IN THE F*** WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! RACIST HMMMMMM! AND BESIDES THAT MY GRANDFATHER WAS BRITISH AND MY ENTIRE FAMILY IS MIXED WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT RACES! SORRY BUT IT JUST HAPPEN TO BE WHITE WOMEN THAT I WORKED WITH AND I GOT ALONG GREAT WITH THE MAJORITY OF THEM AND THOUGHT YOU WERE ONE OF THEM! LOOKS LIKE TO ME YOU'RE THE ONE THAT'S IGNORANT AND I REALLY DON'T GIVE A ### WHAT YOU CAN'T STAND! THIS POST HAS BEEN ON THE COMPLAINTS BOARD FOR YEARS AND YOU'RE JUST NOW SEEING IT! OH! STUFF WILL NEVER CHANGE BECAUSE UPPER MAMAGEMENT ONLY CARES ABOUT THEIR PROFITS, AND BONUSES NOT THE EMPLOYEES.
Been a while since i've had anything to say about this subject. I was told to go to orielly's website and let everyone know that we had worked things out and of course i would be able to still purchase parts and be able to warranty items purchased while i was now a former employee. I did just what ron begay or bejay asked me to do and he told me that i was still eligable to work for orielly, hence the word he spoke outta both sides of his mouth. His words were do this and if you apply for a job within the company, call me personally here is my cell number and i will take care of it. Yep he took care of it all right, applied for a job at a store where one of my managers that i had gotten along with really well wanted to hire me. My friend tells me a few days later that one of my former district managers beverly summerall said that i was not rehireable. Now mind you this if you read the my orginal letter above i had nothing but good things to say about beverly. It's obvious i was lied to by mr ron begay and ms beverly stabbed me in the back, oh well that's their way of showing there little bit of power they have over the regular employees lol! As for people getting of their lazy ### and making sure that they get their raises, i worked with lots of people that were very hard working and were promised a lot by managers and dm's only for the upper level guys to drag their feet and give you your review and hopefully a decent raise and these are facts. Needless to say when i did contact mr. Ron begay about being rehired, he acted like he didn't remember a single thing that we had discussed and said he would look into it and give me a call back. Well that has been almost two years ago and i have yet to receive a single e - mail or phone call, but i'll probably get one now! Roflmbao! Right now i pretty much shop at one store, the manager at store 1700 is awesome and so are his employees, this young man has assembled a team that other stores should follow, no attitudes, favoritism or prejudice towards anyone.
I am from the store from 2810 and I was on break my managers talking to two customers in the parking lot which was parked beside me she was sitting there chit-chatting and she proceeded to tell these two customers that referring to me that I could suck a hundred dicks off the wall and I thought that was the rudest most uncomfortable thing to say she's been she says that all the time and she makes rude comments about me and I don't know how to handle it who do I get to talk to to make a complaint against I don't think she should be a manager if she's doing sexual harassment for making sexual jokes towards me to customers with two customers that she told this to will make will give me a written statement saying what she said how do I handle this
O'Reilly Auto Parts is an outstanding, overall employee related company which has developed an O'Reilly Culture ideal. The associates around the country show this in their love and loyalty to the company. The O'Reilly culture is working in the south, as enforced by their people's attitudes and excitement for the company.
The problem in Wisconsin as shown by other comments, is the employee's have been robbed of all self respect, self motivation and sense of accomplishment in their stores and maximum efforts. They live in daily anxiety that either the DM or RM will walk in and ruin their day for really no good reason. Certain District Managers and The Regional Manager are completely out of touch with the O'Reilly culture of fair and equal recognition for performance. They are drunk with the power of their positions and wield their power by intimidating and threatening their people with the power of who they are. It would be hard to count the number of people's lives that these two people have negatively effected the quality of their lives by twisting circumstances to justify their ends, with complete ignorance or disregard of the O'Reilly Culture ideal.
The management spends more time harassing the employee's, than putting their hands on in a positive display of teamwork, or training associates their expectations, or showing appreciation for their hard work. Everything is numbers, protecting their bonuses, keeping their employee's at the lowest pay possible, with complete disregard of the effects their cuts in hours and pay and pride in their job, has on their their lives, job security, and performance. They take away hours, positions, opportunities, hopes for advancement, with complete disregard of the consequences to the associate. Truly not a good team to work for. Managers have all become yes men to preserve their positions. Very few would admit to their true feelings for fear of retaliation.
Oreilly's don't let customers swipe their cards on pos machines by themselves. I handed my card to the sales guy and he kept it in front of the computer for about 2 minutes. He could have copied all my credit card info with security code into the computer or he could have memorized it (the computer screen is not angled towards customers).
When you go to supermarket or in most shopping stores you can swipe the credit card without handing it to the cashier. Why do I have to hand my card to somebody else? This is stone age customer service.
Purchased a starter in 2006 that I was told it had a lifetime warranty. Paid 179.00 for it. Now that there is an issue guess what I am being told. It only had a three year warranty. If you are doing business with these people make sure you get it in writing and not of thier disapeering ink (Thermal Paper) so it is not readable. Nice gimmick
i went in this store on waring rd in san diego ca. the guy that helped me was named randy aka store manager i needed a battery and injecter cleaner i got my battery and he threw the red and black felt washers on the counter and said you have to get these and put there own injector cleaner up there and said here you need this i said i dont want the felt washers and i dont want a cheap cleaner i use lucas and he say ours is better and your gona buy it or you cant buy the battery. at that point there was another employee there said ill sale you what you want you dont have to take this stuff if you dont want it so i said ok ill deal with you then and the store manager told me to leave his store . so i said fine i will not come back as i was walking out he was screaming and yelling at the other guy that was gona help me. so i went to another store and got what i wanted and also got a phone number to there district manager danny and called him to complain and he said owell thats my boy when randy says you have to get something you have to because its his store he can run it as he wants.
the manager is female and she will not give any other females a job in that store. The employees that work there will tell you that she will not hire females, even former employees will that you that. I don't think that is fair it's more like discrimination.
I used O'Reilly's because the company I use didn't have the part I needed this time and I was in a hurry. The first thing I tried to get was a serpentine belt for a Dodge van, I waited in line for 20 minutes, got the belt and went home to put it on. After leaning over the van for 30 minutes I found out it was the wrong belt! I went back to the store, waited in line for 20 minutes and they apologized and I got the right belt.
The next time was waiting in line for 30 minutes, then ordering a rotor for a Mercedes. I picked it up at the store and went to install, wrong rotor. Went back to the store, waited in line and they said they could get it for me by 5:00 that afternoon on a Saturday:. I went to pick it up and do an exchange, but left the box for the old rotor at home!. It's Sunday afternoon and hot in Texas and didn't make it back!. Worked all week and went back to get the rotor on the next Saturday, they had shipped it back to their warehouse! I had talked to 3 different guys, they knew I needed the rotor and they had all my info so they could call and ask me if I still needed it.. No one called". So, frustrated, I asked for a refund/. They forgot to ask and instead of giving me cash back on a debit card they credited the card which will take 3-5 business days, . I'm done with O'Reilly's, waiting in line, mistakes, no one taking any real responsibility and poor customer service.
Monroe, NC hires mostly Latinos and very popular women. That's how one woman stays...with the manager.
O'Reilly auto parts is very racist with lots of discrimination going on. A very very uncomfortable place to be employed. If your a white male you'll be A ok. Anything other than that be prepared to hear unbelievably hurtful & rude racist, prejudice, & sexist remarks.
My manager at store 4025 is being racist he keeps scheduling for 23 hours every week and sometimes I get less hours then that I feel if I'm a team member I need a equal opportunity to work as some of the other team members I keep a copy of my schedule every week and I only work nights every week and it be two of us that work night shift everyday it's 9 of us that work at store 4025 it's 5 Hispanics that work in the daytime plus the manager who is also Hispanic and it's me plus two other African-Americans that work there also plus the Hispanic workers get 40 hours plus every week and that's not fair to me or the other African-Americans that work there too...
beware
I went into O'reilly to buy a headlight for my vehicle. while talking to the store manager, he claimed he didnt know what bulb I was requesting. I even went out to the car and point it out to him. He still claim he didnt know what I was talking about. Corporate America is ###ed, to hire someone like him. My mother alway said maggets flock together.
What the *** are we coming to. Customer service has went to the gutter. People who take your money treat Customer like ***. Give me a break, pllllllllllllllllllease. She-She Stop shop of Kansas City.
back to the stone age
I moved from SoCal, and I live in the central coast area of Calif now, but I used to have local access to Autozone, who I liked. I had to revert to Kragan, who was not all that great, and they now are Orielly, who, in at least my opinion, ***. I am a very talented and experienced technician and manager, and the service I receive from the two stores in my city is piss poor.
Wrong parts, sometimes no parts, and low technical knowledge to name a few of the issues I have experienced. (I buy a LOT of parts from these guys.)
They tend to over-ride opinions with that "...we know it all..." attitude and it is frustrating to get the wrong advice when you know it is absolutely wrong. Getting some parts is a pain because the personnel just 'know' it has to be something else, or their computer "...does not have it under that name..." (Ask them for an air cleaner gasket)
I had a counter person insist to me that the distributor cap for my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 w/5.9 Magnum was the clip-on one she handed me and not the screw attached one I knew it to be. (I had to walk out because "...Mr. This IS the right cap...")
They could not sell me a 14lb radiator cap for my tractor! ("Sorry, but every radiator has a specific cap to fit it")
Their biggest problem is that the computers are always down. It is a roll of the dice that I can even pay for my parts! Poor to say the least.
bad customer service
I always go to the O'Reilly's in Swainsboro when I need a car or truck part. I have literally spent thousands in there buying parts for mine and my family's vehicles. They now have 2 country bumpkins working in there, Scotty and Bobby. They act like they are high or something! Beaver and [censored]. As soon as you walk through the door you immediately want to walk out because they are giggling like two hippies high on ecstasy. I went in anyway because I figured that they were talking about something before I walked in. They weren't. Everytime I spoke they looked at each other and started laughing. I'm not the only one that they've done like that. If O'Reilly's wants to keep lucrative business they need to hire better help and put Scootie and Booty on the go!

I think that O'Reilly's as a business is a great place but I don't think they realize the impact of having our loved ones constantly at work can be overwhelming for their families. I am overwhelmed by the fact that everytime I turn around there is a meeting being held. Most are not held in the same town where we reside so it requires traveling. I am upset because the job becomes top priority and there is more to life then just constantly working no matter if it pays the bills. Family also matters. Where does all this work pay off if there is never anytime to enjoy the fruits of your labor. To just have one day off a week and sometimes not even that. I never understand why they can't get with the program of having video conferences so that there is less money spent on travel and where people don't have to once again leave their families behind. I only get to spend time with my love one while they sleep because they are constantly working and I just think that if O'Reilly starts really acting like they care about their employees then people would appreciate working there more and wouldn't constantly be thinking about finding another job. Some may say "well someone would love to have your job" well the reality is just because you have a job doesn't mean the you are in a stable condition to just feel comfortable and with all the work that they do why are people still stuggling to pay necessary bills. Especially for Salaried workers I feel that they are used for so many reasons and it really is not fair. They take up overtime when a store doesn't have enough hours or employees cause the store is not making enough money, they have to do inventory at different store all hours of the day and all of this is really for free. They pay the lowest for regular work hours then I guess you feel better because of commission but after taxes are taken out you are right back to making a check that would be made by someone that works the front counter. I just think that the business world is so messed up that they so much care about their business that they forget that their employees are a very important value to the company making the money that they do. They just need to get it together and think about they are a family business that cares about caring on the legacy for years to come well we are families to that care about our loved ones and feel that they are not getting treated right. You either give more time or more money but I guess you want both.
sold us junk
My husband went to O'Reilly Auto Parts Store in Tuscumbia, AL and bought a bttery for our ford ranger. We put the battery on the truck in their parking lot and that did not help.
He took the battery back in and told the man it was not the battery and wanted a refund so he could buy a starter. The man told him that the battery was used and he would have to prorate the battery so my husband dedided to keep it.
My husband even bought a starter from that does NOT work and they will not take it back either they say he doesn't know how to put one on, so we are done with them.

Usually when a battery does not fix the problem, a starter does not fix the problem, then you obviously have another issue. I sale parts for a living and it is common practice for me to narrow the scope as far as I can. If an electrical part has been installed it cannot be returned as new. It's like going to get a gallon of milk, drinking half, and asking for a full refund. It just does not work like that. I would suggest checking all of the grounds, wires, and connections. From there I would suggest having the components checked to make sure they are all working properly. This includes the battery alternator and starter. Before you attack the company itself, go through what it could be before you assume they sold defective parts. Thank you and good luck with this.
employee lacks knowledge of parts
Employee was trying to install a front signal light on a truck and was cutting into the wire harness just to make the incorrect part fit.
I told him that was the wrong part when he was cutting into it and he said he knew what he was doing!
By the way, he's the owner of the white mustang that's pictured on the wall. Go figure!:)

product/no return
Attending a funeral in Nebraska during blizzard conditions, we purchased a set of chains in Branson before the trip. We did not need to use the item which is still in the sack unopened. O'Reilly said they would not refund the money spent on the chains, even though they were not used. Such business practices have convinced me to never purchase another item from O'Reilly's. I will go to Napa, or better yet Auto Zone.!

sold me wrong parts
I own a 1991 Nissan Sentra that needed new cv-joints. Im in the military and use the shop on post to do these kind of things easily and cheaply myself.
Anyways I go to Oreilly's to purchase new half shafts at 59 bucks with 45 core charge. Take them to the shop and begin the install. The Driver side goes without any real hitch, but the passenger side wont go in at all. I bring it back to oreilly's with the core from the drivers side.
The manager looks up the part for me and says well "she gave you the wrong parts, and the one that is on the Driver side right now is the wrong one too". So I say I will go take it off and return them, and also purchased two of the "correct" shafts.
I get back to the shop to remove the wrong one, and surprise surprise, it wont budge at all...ever...not even after taking it to a transmission shop. They did however look through the opening on the other side of the transaxle and were able to deduce that I definitely needed a new one because the splines and gears were torn up and a few things broke off...and...and...and!
Anyways what was a $100 job now a $953 job with a new transmission.
(the lady asked me year, model, engine size, ABS or not, automatic or manual) She didn't ask what speed it was and gave me parts for a 4 speed when mine is a 3 speed.
It ruined my transmission...and my wallet.

rude service
I shopped at O'Reilly Auto Parts store for an electrical part. I specifically asked about returns and was told that it was 30 days as long as it was not installed.
About 4 days later I decided to return the part and was surprised that the lady at the counter said I need to see a manager for the return.
About 3-4 days later I showed up at the store at about 5pm and was again told that the part could not be returned until I spoke to a manager.
I finally showed up at the store when the manager was around and he told that that I cannot return the part since they do not accept returns on the part once it is sold. I mentioned about the first visit and he said that does not mean a thing. He ACCEPTED that the part did not look used but he would not let me return it.
He would not give me a copy of the returns policy and asked me to leave the store and do what I may the part could not be returned. He also did give me a number to their corporate office on my insistance.
I called the number and to my surprise was one of the SEX HOT Line. I found the number of customer service and the rep was helpful and called the manager and to my surprise the manager told her that the part showed visible signs of abuse (after telling me it looked unused).
I was however offered a store credit and I took it. A BIG THANKS to the customer service rep from corporate. The manager told me that I could use it at any O'Reilly store in the country and I left. I am not going back to that store again.
Thanks for reading this and I hope you stay away from this chain. Try Auto Zone or NAPA which has a far better customer service reps and very helpful folks.

You don't think it's fair for this person to voice their experiences with your company? Really? Sorry, but your companies policies are deplorable. And to the other commentor, pointing out that the returns policy is on the back of the reciept does NOTHING to help us. It's too late by that point, as u=you already have our money...!
I don't think encouraging others to ban Oreilly's due to one incompetent manager is fair... 90% of our employees are willing to help customers to the best of our ability...
This is not a normal customer service occurence in many of our stores. I am sorry that you had to go through tthis. The returns policy in on the back of every reciept. We do not accept electrical parts that have been installed but should have been handled better than it was.
I am very sorry you had to go through that I am a Store manager in O'Reillys and I would have been more then happy to have takin care of you customers are the most inportant part of are who we are today and with out them we would not have are jobs I do hope that someday you will try us again! dont think that the way one person is how we all work. I give the best customer service I can eveyday that is are culture!
Thanks

awful place
I worked at store 1841 in austin mn. was given every crap job there was trying to get me to quit but i wouldent . the district manager dont like older help and made it very clear to me and others. He has made comments about others like hire the girl she has a nice *** she will draw customers and has treated her and others very poorly at this store. In june i ruptured 3 disks in my back and that was the way to get rid of me . Fired me fought my unemployment, canceled my insurance, and refuse workers comp. Teem oreilly will take care of you my ***. The old manager and me brought this store from nothing to what it was when he left . We were at aprox. 80, 000 mo. He asked for a raise that figured to .17cents per hr . was told no hired a new manager that nobody likes for less than half and sales drop 40, 000 per mo. WAY TO GO OREILLYS. Oreillys CEO people better take a long look at the district manager and manager im not the only one that has had problems its been our store and other stores in his care that has had problems with him. How stupid can you be is everyone lying but him . I can prove everything i say i have it on tape and other people with me on this that work for oreillys and old employees that have been forced to quit cause of what they have done to them. The CEO people wont get ahold of people like me that was devoted to that store they dont CARE about there help or there customers.

horrible customer service
This letter is to complain about service I recently received from Store #3415 and the staff on hand the evening of November 17, 2009. This series of missteps occurred between 5:10 and 6:10 pm. I think its important to note that these experience is such that I will not shop in this store again, and will think twice before giving business to Oreillys in the future.
While I was waiting pateintly to be helped I noticed what seemed like the manager talking on her cell phone around the front of the store loudly while 1 other employees was busy helping other customers, a line formed behind me while she did nothing she then states to whom ever on the end of the line she does not need to deal with people like us.
Then she came to help me and all I wanted was to purchase a new set of wiper blades for my wifes car and get them installed. The woman who seemed like the manager was annoyed and had a really bad attitude it seemed like she didnt want anyone to bother her. She told me that they dont do that after 5 pm I will have to come back tomorrow morning to get them installed. I was so upset that she couldnt help me install the wiper blades but I calmly left the store not seeing a sign anywhere that stated that they only offered that until 5pm. I felt that she was just being lazy when I waited in line for about 10 minutes and she saw me waiting there but she was busy talking on her cell phone. When she finally came to help she pretty much refused to help me.
I want to make this complaint for only the reason that not only will I never go back to Murrays/Oreillys that I always depended on for all my auto parts but I will tell every one I know about the service I received. You see I am in customer service, I deal with customers (many upset customers) on the daily basis. I have never seen such bad service. I am sorry that you and I will not do any more service because of one individual who left a bad impression. I really think that your employee needs to learn how to deal with customers if you are in a retail business if you dont then you will lose a lot of good customers!
If she was that rude then the rest of the stores must be the same. I always have car problems so now my business will definitely go somewhere else. That night I bought a set of wiper blades from Napa Auto Parts just down the road, they had no problem to go outside and install them. I would rather pay a little more money to get nicer people to help me because free or cheap isn't always better obviously.

as in the comment from above I am a Manager for O'Reilly auto parts and I am sorry you got treated that way! it was not called for and I dont care what time it is I go out of my way to help anyone. I have even stoped on the freeway on my way home to help to them to the store to get the parts they need and took them back to the car and helped fix it (took tell 12am) but that is how O'Reillys trains us to go out of are way to treat the customer as if they were not just a customer or a sale but as if they were are family! dont let that one bad time make you think thats how we as a whole are.
Thanks
Scott- Oregon
I am sorry that you happened to get one of the worst examples of our service. However, you stated that ALL of them must be the same. I am in North Carolina and I can vouch for myself and others that this is not customer service, Oreilly's or not. I go outside to crawl under trucks to find the problem, change wiper blades, change batteries, change bulbs, etc. Although it is not for us to do some of these things, I prefer to do so to help the customers. I do not condone any of the ones that work with me to treat anyone any other way. The motto in our store is that you treat the person on the other side of the counter as if it were you. So far it has worked for me. Again, I do apologize. By the way...I am female and a manager.
rude manager
The store in cleburne tx has a manager that is rude and uses obsene language and does crude actions i heard how he talks to employees and it is hateful and unnessesary for a manager to behave this way i was very offended and cant believe your company employs people of his nature women that work there are talked to badly and harrased both sexually and emotionally and ive been any there many times when he has brought them to tears he discusses personal things in front of other employees as well as customers and i think it is just shameful something should be done about this.

fraud and cheats
I purchased a Bulldog security system from O'reilly auto
. First thing I had to do was look up directions for installation on the internet. Then I called "Customer Support", to see why the kit did not have all the parts needed.
The tech line representitive informed me that I was an idiot! I was taken aback and asked him what he said to make sure I was not hearing things incorrectly. He then proceeded to tell I was an idiot and did I know how many cars were out there and how hard it would be to include all the parts. I then told him that I needed to speak with his suppervisor, and he responded that what I needed to do was to blow it out my ***.
Being very offended I returned to the O'reilly part store were I purchased the part to see what they could do for me about this matter. They gave me the run around for about a week and nothing was ever done. This is why I say screw O'reilly and screw Bulldog security!

trasmission fluid
Was sold wrong trasmission fliud causing it to blow a compression valve and car to stop in street. If they tell you to use any of thier mulit-use transmission products DON"T...cost me 150 to get towed fixed hope no prement damage

I disagree! The computer is NOT the only resource you have to look up correct vehicle fluids. Valvoline Fluid Recommendations and capacities is readily available from your DC and is specifically designed so the customer is not given the wrong fluids. This seems to be a major problem with OReilly...not enough knowledge and experience in the stores, and absolutely no support from "corporate" to educate employees and customers alike! The customer should not have to research their vehicles specs...that's the job of the so called "professional" at the store. When companies like OReilly and Auto Zone start paying better, and attracting people that have the knowledge and experience, or at least want to learn, and stop filling their stores with inexperienced kids that could care less about auto parts, they might actually gain some respect and confidence from their customers. Until then, NAPA and CarQuest will continue to prevail as the 'professional" parts stores.
If you come in and buy a bottle of transmission fluid and ask for help, the only resources we have are in the computer as by corporate policy for us not to use our cell phones. I'm sorry you were advised to buy the wrong transmission fluid type for your vehicle. My advice to you would be to research your vehicle's specifics as to what transmission etc... is actually in it and that may keep incidents like this from happening.
scam and cheating
I have got the wrong part more times then getting' the right part. I live 20 miles from O'Reilly and every time I have to make more than one trip it cost me. I buy a lot of parts from O'Reilly in Peoria Height. Il. Called district Manager to complain and he told me to go to Auto Zone, thanks Kenny best advice I ever got from you. They like the $2000-$3000 I spend in a month. I also don't have to make two trips for every part I buy. I will not buy from or recommend O'Reilly Auto Parts.

mistreatment of team members
There are problems going on at this specific store location that can no longer be ignored. The team members at this location need help but it will have to be from the corporate office. There was an e-mail sent but no-one answered it. There are two specific people at this store that have quick several times because they don't get their way. They are very...

I recently replaced a battery from oreillys which I had purchased from oreillys 4 years ago when it went bad I went to my local store to replace it as it had 2 yrs prorated warranty left the employee told me it was cheaper to purchase new battery at wholesale than to prorate the new one, because they prorate them at list cost. This practice is crap, I told the salesman this and he told me if I would shut up and listen he would explain. I managed a store for this company 8 yrs ago and I know this is not true .I strongly advise anyone to call the district managers when you encounter a problem
if not call oreillys corporate offices in Springfield Missouri and ask for Denny smith he will straighten out the problem. He is the most knowledgeable person in the company (regional manager) don’t let the employees bully you they are only worried about their commissions. This was a very good company to work for don’t let a few bad apples ruin your day

I purchased a battery from O, Reilly's 9-6-22 and on receipt it is core charge for 22.00 and then a core exchange -22.00. wasn't I supposed to get a credit for core charge for them keeping my old battery. Just trying to find out how they work. I have always gotten a credit for turning on old battery.
I purchased 2 Optima batteries from o'riley. They refused my 2 core batteries i bought them , because they were too small . 30 pounds each , seald lead acid 12 volt batteries . I have a warranty on my other batteries which i am trying to collect
10+ year Oreilly team member. The company's core values are better than any I have worked for in the past. Like any retail job you are required to hire a few good people and fill holes with idiots. We do not prorate batteries at list price you have been misinformed. Wholesale price is obviously less than retail even with a prorate in the first few months of proration. This is a benefit given to professional accounts who's GP % is lower but that spend significantly more money than your average DIYer.
I definitely think that individual store employees are not the problem. The O'Reilly philosophy is the problem. Because they do not care about their employees; they are treating us as if people are machines. It is difficult for an employee, if not impossible, to make it right for the customer because of the all mighty dollar that guides all of O'Reilly's decisions. Of course, call Springfield. Call Springfield all the time. A big wig will make it right, but O'Reilly will not give permission for the workers in the stores to "make-it right." I wish that O'Reilly had never bought CSK Auto Parts, Inc. CSK treated workers with dignity and wanted workers to provide the best customer service possible. It is not that way with O'Reilly and those in Springfield. --dishearted worker at O'Reilly who is looking for new employment.
ripping people off
Be very careful conducting business with o'reilly auto parts. Look close at their return policy. If you use a credit or debit card and need to return a defective part, they will only credit the original card. This means if you change bank accounts or credit cards, you will be stuck holding the defective part. This policy is an outrage. They are ripping people off. Go check it for yourself on their web-site. I have wrote a letter to o'reillys and will see just how committed they are to customer service.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
O'Reily auto parts is NOT in business to rip people off. Customers need to be more responsible for the companies that issue cards for payments. They are ripping people off. O'Reily auto parts always have extended an above board approach to it's customers. Customers always do the ripping off and expect instant service. They bring zero information on the car they drive and part name. Customers expect them to be engineers, five star mechanics and do a good job at it. I don't work for them. I'm a customer. As always in life and mathematics a bad parts clerk gets hired. O'Reily auto parts can't be responsible for that and fire them. Follow the 10 commandments and you find them a great place to shop.
The managers are sometimes don't accept some returns but later credit the purchases to their cronies. Too many complains, the Oreillys Board needs to take this seriously avoid further scams.
I just went in to do a return on $400 worth of parts that i purchased with a company card. Now i purchased alot with the company card for the company i work for and every few months we get new cards so the ones they were purchased on arent good. Do i still have them yes i do but they are cancelled and the employees at the St Joseph Missouri stores are saying im screwed and my company is screwed. They treated me like i was a crackhead when i have gave them ALOT of business. Which i will not anymore.
Returned some control arm bushings to o'reilly's I purchased with my debit card, I forgot card at home had to drive back home to get card because they wouldn't give me cash and they had to have my card to do the return. And tell me why my money isn't back on my card? I feel robbed.
Yea I don't about all of you but while I read some of these Pro O'Reilly's comments, I felt like I was reading patriotic propaganda or something to that effect;
"God Bless America, and God bless O'Reilly's Auto parts
#UpForWhatever#MakeItABudLite!"
Redirecting my digression onto my point:
The dude that did my return was (pardon my language) was a subtle snot-nosed punk-kid. That's right I went there, and I hate to say it but I'm not lying. He tried to make me feel stupid because I was confused about there social distance setup (it was more like, follow the velvet rope and see where it leads type of deal), and even though I had my receipt and correct debit card with me, he informed me that he could refund my debit card, no cash. If I wanted to attempt to get cash, I'd have to ask the manager so naturally I asked to speak with the manager and this kid had his wit already locked, cocked and aimed and them BAM!
"Psh, he already went home at 5? Sorry sir."
Finally to top it off, he "reassures me, telling me that the funds are put back on the card immediately. He looked at me in eyes when he told me this. He lied straight to my face.
So yea, moral of the story, Modelo is a waaaaaay bettwr beer.
O'Riley's is incredible when it comes to returns.. you must have caused reason for alarm. My ladies steering column was busted to hell and we're broke. However we have the VA ( veteran's affair's) on our side so they bought us the part. But the mechanics needed a column with the harness.. so, I sat there holding a 200$ pair weight knowing that there is no way I can return this because a government agency bought it ( they didn't want to return it) with a credit card.. I figured I would try to see if they exchange if for a starter compatible with my other car. And not only did they offer me a full refund in cash, but the manager even pointed me in the direction of a discounted auto parts place for my starter because he knew I was alittle down on my luck. Love O'Reilly's customer for life..
I bought a part that I ended up not needing, ok paid with check, the check has cleared my bank. Apon returning the part, they tried to say I bought it with a gift card (when it says check right on the receipt) and forced me to get a gift card for the return. It wasn't even a big return, it was only $30. That is total bs, I have shopped o'Reilly's now twice and I thought I really liked the store and found my new auto parts store. Well now because of this, I will be selling the gift card and I will no longer shop there. Back to advance auto I go (where i have never had a problem).
I read this before walking in to return a polisher that had broken internally...a plastic piece of course, regardless, I walked in explained what had happened and gave them my phone number so they could look up the purchase and I had absolutely zero issues in returning and exchanging... I wasn't asking for money in return, however, I'm certain they would have given to me (I used a debit card).
I tend to agree with all of the positive comments above. It appeared that there were some managers who commented and I commend the customer service at the O'Reilly's I just busted (Nashville TN, craighead) I also tend to agree with the gentleman who recognizes that something is amiss, if one presents an unreasonable or questionable request...regardless of motive...a company does and quite frankly, should have policies in place to protect themselves and their customers...
O'Reilly's has been on the up and up with me without fail.
So i still didn't see an answer to my question? I bought a tool at orileys on Aug 18th for 19.99, purchased it with a prepaid debit card that i no longer own, the tool i had no use never opened it or used it period, by how other similar retailers go about that kind of situation is usually as long as you have original receipt and its within 30 days of purchase and purchased with a debit card it is absolutely a cash back return/refund! Does anyone know their policies on returning something purchased with a debit card ? And returning it with an original purchase receipt? Thanks
Return Policy at O'Reily's. Google search came up with thread which didn't answer my question really. I don't know what their policy is but I needed a part that was $109. and wanted to get partial credit with some brakes that I found out I didn't need after all. Bought them at another O'Rielly's in San Francisco less than 30 days ago, never opened them and Oakland store would not take them back, not even with credit. Never heard of a franchise not taking back something from another store. Annoying, told them forget it I'll go elsewhere
