A few months ago, My bill was raised to over $130. I called Optimum customer service and they said the discount package I had expired. They said to wait a few weeks and call back in and it could be adjusted because they were coming out with new discount packages, I got this month's bill and they had raised it again to over $160! I am an 83 year old veteran on fixed income. Locally T-Mobile is selling unlimited internet for $35 per month guaranteed for 5 years. I have been with the cable company since 1979! To change services, I would have to change my email in dozens of locations. That is the only thing that has stopped me, but I am considering it now anyway. Due to a law suit by our state, Optimum is supposed to have our customer service centers in West Virginia. Both times I have called them in the last 24 hours I was answered in a foreign country. Was there another settlement with the WV PSC that I am not aware of? They refused to transfer me to the retention department and said Optimum had ordered that they not do that unless a customer was disconnecting their service. My neighbor just went through this and AFTER he changed to T-Mobile, Optimum called him time after time offering him steep discounts to come back to their service. Why wouldn't they do that BEFORE he left, just like my case? Optimum is over priced an about to lose one of the oldest customers they have. The TV cable boxes are another example of a ripoff. All modern TVs handle HD without a box. I will never use pay per view, but I must have the boxes to get HD from Optimum. That should be against the law.
Claimed loss: Service overpriced by at least $40.
Desired outcome: $115 or less per month and get all the TV channels I am paying for without using their cable boxes and directly connecting to the cable.
