I had a similar experience to those listed above, apart from the fact that my 'prize
money' was R195 000 and a Nokia C3, I was asked to buy a Telkom voucher for
R200 (are Telkom then also in on this scam? Nothing would surprise me about
them ...) in order to activate my reference code and then I would receive a cheque
for the prize moeny and the device by courier at my place pf work within 5 hours.
I was not asked to provide my ID number or any other personal details other than
my home address, from which I am absent during the day, and where I work. Does
this mean these scammers are tailing us by following a satellite trail on our cell--
phones? Please deal with this abuse URGENTL!

I received an sms via my sim that I use for the internet, stating I have won R250 000 in the Nokia Yearly Promotions and to phone [protected]. When I got through a Lady called Yolisa aked my ref. Nr. 0166p. To please phone back in five minutes, for her to check her records to see if i am a winner. Two hours later, I got through to her again after trying to get hold of her numeour times! Said I must pone back again so she can look it up, I verbalized that is what she said earlier, there was a few minute silence, then she said Congratulations and do i want a cheque or bank-transfer. I said bank transfer, wereby she said, I must sms my ID, phone number, address to her, as well as buy a Vodacom 220 air-time voucher, not to use it, but forward the said air-time number as well to her, as it is used to verify my price.
When I asked her if she can't forward me the details, she said, she is extremely busy, and to phone her again when i have a pen and paper, then she'll give me the information again!
IS THIS FOR REAL, OR A SCAM?

I've phoned the lady named zanele in connection with this "nokia promotion" I'm highly disappointed at the state of corruption in our beautiful country. After doing some research on her cellphone number I found that she was connected to the scam which uses nokia promotions as a front. After asking to speak to her boss I was refered to a gentleman that couldn't seem to stick to a specific accent asking me for personal details which were totally irrelevant. Something needs to be done about this by lawful authorities before the people of the land take this matter into their own hands.. Blood will be spilt if this issue is not resolved SOON. I find it highly embarrassing that the services that are supposed to protect communities against such crimes can do nothing with all the millions spent on the apparent equipment they buy with OUR tax money

I have also just recieved a SMS notifying me that I have won R950 000.00 in a random pick in the Nokia Yearly Promotion. The contact detail is [protected]. With ref NK265. I know it is a scam due to them requesting my banking details and that I will need to pay over MTN Vouchers to allow the transfer to commence.

My fiance also received an sms stating she won R150000 in the nokia yearly promotion, being the sceptic that i am i immediately googled it and found so many sites complaining about this scam, my fiance on the other hand is a very trusting person and she went and phoned the supplied number the man on the other end of the call assured her that it is not a scam and she would receive her money per cheque within 24hrs, and it would be couriered to her, the very next day she received an sms which read she needs to pay in R1400 for insurance and for the courier company, people please dont be fooled by these [censor] they make their money off trusting and stupid people.

I also received this sms from +[protected] at 01:24am on 23rd Feb 20011:"CONGRATULATIONS! your sim no has won the sum of R95, 000 in our (NOKIA-YEARLY PROMOTION)your ticket no is 0166p. contact your claim agent MPHO on [protected]". I decided to call the said agent who sounded a woman. She claimed to be in Gauteng. She asked me to call her after 20min to confirm the winning ticket I read to her. I called again after 20min and she asked me how I would like to receive the prize money. I ran out of airtime and didn't call her again. I believe this's real scam. WE MUST STOP THIS FRAUD!

I just received the same SMS today saying that I my sim card has won R95000. and that I should contact Mr Justice on [protected]. I then got to work and called the guy and told him that I'm constable form the polise station and have someone who has the SMS and wants to find out if the claim if ligitimate. Then Justice answred the phone and then said he cant talk if my number shows private and them droped the phone. I tried to call again, and he closed his number. I mean, if it was innocent why worry that someone called with a private number and them drop the phone? I then realised that this must be a scam. Thank God that I was vigilent. Johannes.

I am obviously distressed that there are fraudsters out there actively preying on the population. However, I would be more distressed if I were to find out that the police are not in active pursuit of each and every fraudster. As soon as I have posted the details of my scam sms, I will be trying to ensure that the case is taken up. I received an sms on 18 January 2011. It says I won R195, 000 and Nokia E65 in the NOKIA YEARLY PROMOTION. My ticket No. is E22 and my contact is GREG SMITH @ [protected]. When I called 'he' answered and asked that I fax my name and address to his phone and I was to call again for further instruction.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? ARE THE POLICE AND NOKIA DOING ANYTHING OF ANY EFFECT?
