CONGRATULATION! Your mobile number has won (USD)497, 000.00 Dollars in the ongoing NOKIA MOBILE PROMO. For claim call; +[protected] &Email : nokia-promo@asia.com

I send e-mail requesting for further info. The next day they send me e-mail for me to fill in my particulars. The next day they send me e-mail requesting me to pay Courier fees 750.00 pounds through WesterUnion Money Transfer...they call my handphone and urged me to do it quickly because the parcel is ready to be flown by air (DHL Service) Such a short notice to do the same day. They try to convinced me by attaching "Deeds Of Guarantee" but they are stupid because this time they was mistaken by stating I won $4970, 000.00 (Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Great British Pound) and the other attachment was a Photo of the parcel carrying the Chegue..but what a big parcel..it is not obvious at all.
It's all fake...ha ha...! I told them they are a LIAR. Nokia please check OK..?

A leading mobile company has warned its users not to respond to a message that tells them they have won thousands of pounds.

A number of Nokia mobile users in the country said they received a message in their inbox that read: "Congratulations! Your cell phone has won £165, 000 [Dh1.2 million] in the ongoing Nokia UK promo."

The message also featured an e-mail address and a telephone number for claims.

Gulf News got in touch with Nokia Corporate Communications in the UK for clarification. The company said the message is one of several hoax sms's that are circulating around the world, and Nokia has nothing to do with them.

Confirmation

The mobile manufacture apologised to its customers for any inconvenience.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several Nokia mobile users who received the message on their mobile phones sought confirmation of the promotion by contacting Nokia UK online, while there are a few who tried to call back on the contact number provided for claims.

R. Vasudevan Nair, an IT professional, said he had been informed of similar messages making the rounds through e-mails and immediately got in touch with the mobile company in the UK when he received an SMS on his mobile.

"I wrote to Nokia Corporate Communications in the UK and they informed me that the message was a hoax."

Dennis Fernando, a salesman who also received the message, tried calling the telephone number provided at the end of the message.

"I dialled the number from a landline on a Friday when the rates are cheap. I made several calls on that telephone number but each time it gave me an engaged tone. I finally gave up, " Fernando said.

"I was warned by my friends that the message could carry a virus that would get my mobile jammed, but still I went for it. Luckily I did not lose anything."

Another Nokia mobile user said the telephone number provided for claims was one from an African country.

"I checked out the telephone code. It was from Nigeria."

hi,

i too recieved an SMS stating that my mobile number has won some X thousand GBP pounds in "Nokia Mobile Raffle Draw in UK" & there was a mobile number and email ID provided alongwith the SMS to reach back to the sender.

pls note that i reside in India.

a few things that made me research the possible validity of the SMS are listed below:

1. the mail ID mentioned is mail2nokia@yahoo.com ... no corporate business would use a public mail ID

2. the amount/fees to be deposited in advance for recieving the parcel was very high ... in fact, the courier fees were comparable to charges of a flight ticket of an individual/adult for a return trip from India-Uk-India ... courier charges just can't be that atrociously high

3. the name and the account number provided for depositing the fees were that of an individual ... i would expect that payments for such needs to go to a corporate rather than an individual.

4. there is no reason why they can't ship the parcel to the local Nokia office to which the winner belongs and let the winner collect the same from there.

should you agree to the above, you can very easily come to a conclusion that these messages are fake and the motive is to eat into your hard earned money.

BEWARE and STAY AWAY.
