Morrisons review: Complaint: wrongly accused and searched by security, Canning Town store, 12 October 2026
Dear Morrisons Customer Services,
I am writing to complain about how I was treated by a security officer at your Canning Town store on Monday 12 October 2026, at around 1pm.
As I left the store, I was holding everything I had bought in my hands, with the receipt clearly visible on top. A female security officer stopped me and accused me of hiding a bag of crisps in my pocket without paying for it. I told her I had not and offered to show her my bags and pockets. She then asked if she could search me, and I agreed and emptied my pockets. There was nothing there.
I understand that stores need to prevent theft. However, my receipt was in plain sight, and instead of checking it or explaining her concern, she accused me outright. I was approached in an intimidating way in front of other customers and treated as a thief. Once it was clear I had done nothing wrong, I received no apology or explanation. The situation became tense enough that another customer had to step in.
The experience left me feeling humiliated and singled out, and I am concerned about why I was targeted.
I would like:
- an apology for how I was treated;
- an explanation of why I was accused and whether your procedures were followed; and
- confirmation of what steps will be taken so this does not happen to other customers.
I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Michelle
Desired outcome: A written apology, an explanation of why I was accused despite having my receipt visible, and confirmation that the incident has been reviewed with the security officer so it doesn’t happen to other customers.
