I rented a car on April 17 at 00:18 at Sarasota Bradenton Airport. Initial cost due to late time of night was 1192.22. The rental was used 1 day and car was returned on the 18 th back to the Airport in order to rent another car cheaper at budget rental in Venice for which I showed proof of reciept to Hertz and AMEX. Upon returning the car after1day I asked if I needed to do anything as this was returned early and was told to leave key In car no no one even came by to inspect for damage which there was none. Upon my return home my AMEX card was billed for 5 days vs 1 as Hertz indicated this was the contract I signed. I asked AMEX to dispute this and Hertz claims I kept car for 5 days which was impossible as I cannot drive 2 vehicles. I submitted my receipt for budget rental to show that I indeed did rent the car from hertz for only 1 day. The dispute states the charges are correct for 5 days which was not true. I have now asked AMEX to cancel my membership I’ve had over 30 yrs and will never rent another vehicle from Hertz again. If people return cars early regardless of the initial contract there must be a better way to track returns other than to say leave the key in the car and thus stick it to the customer for days never used.
Claimed loss: Charge was 742.36 for 5 days
Desired outcome: For Hertz to look at cameras in the lot to know for certain I returned the car inn1 day vs 5
