We rented a car for one day from the Hertz office in Heraklion, Crete. Hertz quoted €110 including second driver and full insurance. The next morning when we went to pick up the keys, Hertz asked us to pay almost €150. Hertz proceeded to ignore messages via WhatsApp and email.
After we returned the car, Hertz told us the higher price was a miscommunication. But when we complained to Hertz Customer Relations about the incorrect initial quote, Hertz tried to gaslight us by saying that the initial quote didn’t include VAT (not true), before blaming us for continuing with the booking at the higher price (since we didn’t want to waste more time finding another rental).
We feel it is possible that Hertz broke Greek consumer law by providing a misleadingly low quote in order to encourage us to proceed with a booking at a higher price.
This is no way to treat customers. We would strongly recommend avoiding Hertz.
Recommendation: Avoid Hertz at all costs!
