I Purchased a GE Washer and Dryer less than 2 years ago. I did not buy an extended warranty because I believe that if a product needs a warranty the company is basically saying their product is junk and you need to expect it not to last very long. Well, the company is right, they produce junk. I called both the place I bought the washer from (Home Depot), and GE looking for a repairman, Home Depot had none, GE said they are working on getting servicemen in my rural area but do not have one as of yet. Uhm...why do these companies sell a product in my area that they admit will break and you need a warranty and they will not provide service? I found a repairman on my own, Sears Appliance Repair, they came out and told me that the control panels need replaced and would cost $1200 to get the parts! I only paid $800 brand new! I called GE back and told them I want some compensation for this. They offered a partial refund towards a new washer. I would have to be crazy to purchase another GE product. I turned down the small refund. I think this company needs to be more transparent in that they are NOT THE GE I GREW UP WITH. They were bought out by a different company who does not build it in the U.S. and have a horrible service department. Beware of buying anything from this company. Not the first GE appliance I had break in less than 2 years.
Claimed loss: $800 for the washer, $139 for the service call
Desired outcome: Refund, not based on buying another junk appliance from GE
