I placed a reservation for a car rental and placed pick-up time as 11:30PM and drop off time at 3:00 PM. However, when it was entered at the car rental place the times were entered as 10 AM for both. When I called to change the times, I was told it was impossible, I had to cancel the reservation and rebook it and pay AGAIN and wait for the refund. No one person could do something as simple as change the times and I refuse to pay AGAIN the $600+ and hope it is correct; I am changed $100! This was someone else's mistake, and I am being charged for it. How can a company as large was Expedia not be able to do something as simple as changing a time for the reservation. I can see how they make money, they make a mistake and charge for THEIR mistakes.
Note I was on the phone for over 3 hours with the pone with Expedia and the car rental company attempting to fix THEIR mistake, and the only thing I got was an " I understand your frustration, but please rebook your reservation".
That is unacceptable and I would be livid. You are being held hostage by their broken system. Here is what I would do: stop calling the frontline drones. Send a certified letter to Expedia's legal department with your reservation number and a clear demand to correct the times at no extra charge, citing their error. Also, dispute the $100 fee with your credit card as an unauthorized charge, because you never agreed to that change. If they want to play hardball, mention you will file a complaint with the Department of Transportation, since rental car time changes are a routine adjustment. You are not paying for their incompetence.
