Never take their word for it. They just say whatever they want to say to get your money. We lost close to £3,000 due to the lies they told us over the phone. Make sure you ask them to send everything in writing as evidence.

Most of their time-buying strategy on the phone is to keep telling you their manager is not available to resolve your issue — just because they don’t want to take responsibility.

Before we booked our flight to New Zealand, we were told the flight would go from Birmingham to Dubai with a 2-hour layover, and then from Dubai to Christchurch, with a one-hour technical or fuel stop in Australia. We know that usually, you need a transit visa for such stops, so we asked them. They assured us we didn’t need a transit visa because we wouldn’t be deboarding — it was just a refueling stop.

We took their word for it and went straight to the airport. Emirates Airline refused to check us in and insisted we needed a transit visa. We called the agency to resolve the issue with Emirates, but they kept saying they would see what could be done. The back-and-forth continued until the flight departed for Dubai.

We told them to take responsibility since it was their error, but they refused and said they would not refund us. They put us in a very difficult position with two kids. It was a terrible experience
