Hello, I work on at a school and my students did a bake sale fundraiser to help some families in need in our area. I went to Dollar tree to get the most for our money. I bought toiletries and a few snack items and ended up spendinhg $84. When we packed up the gift bags we had extra of some items so I went to return it. I found out that the kids couldn't get their money back and the girl said I couldn't get store credit. She said all she could do was exchange each item for exactly the same item. That doesn't make any sense. I'm asking you to please make a refund exception for me. It's only about $20 and that amount is inconsequential to the Dollar Tree but could mean alot to our little charity and what we are trying to do in the community. All of the products are new, nothing has been opened and there are no food items. I also have my receipt. We would even take a store credit for the amount of the items. My local store #[protected] E. 14th street suite A San Leandro, Ca 94578. Thank You for considering.

Desired outcome: A refund on the unused items.

I'm not sure what this dollar tree looks like inside with regards to signage, but we have the No Return, Exchange Only policy posted on each register, a poster sized sign right in the front of the Check-Out area, and on the receipt. Plus you could have just asked a Manager prior to even shopping. We are not Macy's or Wal-Mart where 99% of the items are well over $1.25. A refund policy would be silly for this type of business which is why we don't have one. If you can't find a replacement item for $1.25 in a store that carries so many categories of things...somethings off. Exchange what you have and get something for the kids for their efforts. I'm sure they would be very appreciative.

Hello, I'm an Assistant Manager of a Dollar Tree in NJ. While it's true that we do not offer refunds or Store Credit, ( it says it on your receipt), we do offer EXCHANGES for other items. Are you sure that the cashier said basically same item exchanges? If so, she is incorrect. You can bring back a gift bag and get pencils in it's place. And, at least in my store...if you have. ..say 10 items to bring back but can only find 5 items to replace them at that point, you can come back another time and do the same for the rest. If you haven't already, go back and do what I mentioned. And just an FYI, the only time that we do not do exchanges at all is on seasonal (holiday) items after the holiday has passed.

The issue is that it was not clear that they didn't have a return policy at all. What store doesn't offer returns? The return policy is printed on the receipt, but you get that AFTER you have made your purchase. It should be made more clear because it is a reasonable expectation to be able to return items with a valid receipt.

I do be believe the manager on duty misquoted the policy but she was also very sure of herself so I didn't argue. I did call another store and have them advise me of the correct policy. Ultimately, it's just makes me not want to shop there anymore knowing that they care more about keeping $20 then keeping a customer happy. I know in the grand scheme of things, I won't be missed because they are a multimillion corporation and I'm just me. Thank you though, I still have my items and my receipt and I will exchange 1 at a time if I have to.
