agregious fees
I rented a car form dollar. did not plan on taking toll road so did not get sunpass. they claim i went through toll but supplied no supporting documentation. also the route i took was what the agent said to take out of the airport. he knew i did not have sunpass. i believe this is a scam by dollar. i owed 1.05 in tolls .70 at 3:27 pm and .35 at 3:25 pm. Obviously the state has a scam going as well. two fees in less then two minutes? Dollar charged me 15.00 fee per state charge.

I had a serious issue with the rental vehicle from I collected from Dollar at Miami Airport. After collecting the vehicle.I drove towards Orlando on the I-95. After about an hour The road went over a bridge with the usual expansion gaps creating some vibration. There was then a noticeable flapping noise from the front of the.vehicle. When I was eventually able to pull of the Interstate Highway I found the plastic panel covering the driver's side wheel arch and beneath the engine (the 'splash panel') had come loose and was tangled under the front of the vehicle. I was able to pull off the mangled panel but was concerned over driving further - it was 7pm and.dark - so I had to obtain overnight accommodation. I attempted to contact Dollar's emergency service but all I got was a recorded message that the number was not in use. Likewise I had.the same difficulty in trying to contact the Autoeurope helpline. I managed to contact Dollar from the hotel the following morning and was instructed to drive the damaged vehicle to Orlando airport - some 150 miles, for s replacement vehicle. I attempted to register a formal complaint at Orlando airport but the attendant was not interested. I emailed a complaint to Dollar on their.website but had absolutely no response. I made a further complaint on my return to Miami Airport but was told I could only make a complaint online through customer support - so I did so again and still no response. To add insult to injury I have received a demand from Dollar for toll fees of $9.91 plus an 'administration fee' of $105.00 - the toll charges were largely incurred trying to exchange the faulty vehicle and then on returning the vehicle to Miami Airport as the only directions provided by Dollar took you onto toll roads. I am greatly concerned that Dollar provided a vehicle which was unsafe and could have been the case of a fatal accident. I had to arrange overnight accommodation at my own additional expense and then had the added anxiety of having to drive the damaged vehicle a further 150 miles and then spend two hours taking the damaged vehicle to Orlando airport for a replacement vehicle.
overcharged
We showed the agent where we were staying and he said there were tools and we would need to rent a toll transponder. We never went through a single toll. He said we should bring the car back empty because they only charge $1.80 per gallon and gas was running about $2.50 in the area. We saw gas for $1.75! They must be trading them to do whatever it takes for add on sales. Our pre-paid car cost us an extra $150.00! I'm going back to Enterprise.
I would never again rent from Dollar or from any other company which is related to Hertz, including its subsidiaries.
My complaint relates to a rental at Fort Lauderdale Airport. The agent at the Dollar counter failed to advise that there are all types of tolls in the area, which would have prompted me to buy a transponder. My car accrued only $12.00 in toll charges, but my card was charged "service charges" in the sum of $180.00 in additional fees for this service. It is almost as if the company does this on purpose to increase their profits. Actually, it does.
The service charge of $180.00 is nothing less than unconscionable and is reflective of a company that has little regard for its clients.
Going forward, I will only rent from Enterprise and will arrange for my own rental --- not using Travelocity or any other service which packages the airline ticket and the car rental.
When we collected the car they asked us about fuel, we told them we would return it full which we did but they still saw fit to charge us 79.78 euros, we are trying to get our money back but we paid cash and they took the receipt so what proof have we got.
false billing
Hi Dollar Rent A Car 11/19/15 Louisville airport 2pm. Talked to well meaning agent Joe for an hour to rent a large SUV. After an hour and people getting frustrated behind me I finally achieved my goal of finishing the transaction. I over paid to the amount of $700 for two weeks. They added the pre-paid fuel which I didn't want and $11.99 a day satellite radio charge. NOW keep in mind that I've used Dollar Rent A Car everyday this year. Express Member and so on...I walk it and the SUV is a mid -size equinox chevy. GOOD GRIEF ! Took it home and decided against it and decided I didn't even need one if that's the largest they had...I took it back less than 24 hrs later and explained I didn't want it and to use one of my free day awards for the amount owed for the 22 hrs of usage and 39 miles. They wanted me to pay $211.00. $17.71 which was for a fuel charge. Fill-it up a mile from the airport so no gas was used. $7.99 for the radio and so on to a total of $162. Finally finished out at them Charging me $48.00 ...Crazy..Dollar Rent A Car in Louisville is second to none in effort and service but this was and is headache.
car in terrible shape, not clean, problems trying to talk to customer service
We have rented several cars and have never had the issues we did with Dollar. We rented a car on Nov 1st at Orlando airport. We picked the car and drove away. Once we arrived at our hotel, we started noticing that the car smelled like smoke (Dollar is all non-smoking cars), the car had tape on the outside of the doors, tape residue on the windshield, and was very dirty on the inside. In our haste to leave the airport, we failed to check the car. We just thought it would be good. We decided to just deal with it. We were also told by our rental agent that we would need the $50 add on for Sun Pass tolls. He insisted that we would use the $50 during our week stay. We were not knowledgeable about the tolls in Orlando. We only used $8.00 in tolls the entire week. I advise anyone to not agree to that add-on. Then we tried to call customer service about changing our rental agreement for one day to add my wife as a driver because my flight left 12 hours before hers. We got the run around from customer service and was eventually told that wasn't possible to change the contract. We called customer service multiple times and received different stories each time. We finally drove to the airport and talked to someone there. She took care of the change and was very helpful. I will never rent from Dollar again. Our reservation number was K1863450.
You got your issues resolved right? So what is the problem?
overcharging
Traveljigsaw Ltd. [GB] Booking Ref #: [protected] Dollar Confirmation #: K0696092 Booked a car with Car Rental and received the referenced confirmation, after paying in full. Said the charges to be paid were now $0.00 The rental was from Sep 15 thru Oct 15, 2015. They charged me a fee of $404.80 as security and said that it'd be refunded, on the return of the vehicle. Happened to return the vehicle a week earlier than scheduled on Oct 08, 2015. The amount of $404.80 has still not been credited to the account. And despite returning the car with a tank full of fuel, they charged me $11.40. This is a clear breach of privilege and very unfair. This stuff should have happened automatically without any intervention. I am still waiting for the refund. And two complaints to the Dollar people have gone unnoticed.

Dollar, Only 4 of the 14 toll charges are EZPass tolls. Even if we were given the opportunity to have the TollPass at the time of rental, how would that change things? You would still be charging a $15 admin fee on top of tolls, right? Otherwise, why would anyone reject the TollPass option. All other rentals I have used just pass through the toll charges without an admin fee. Seems like the right and fair thing to do. Otherwise it is part of the cost to rent a vehicle and that wasn’t disclosed at time of rental. I see there are many complaints online about this practice. You can either waive the $15 admin fee or I will be the wiser next time and stay away from Dollar. Maybe that is why your car rental rates are lower, because you can make up the difference with after-the-fact ancillary charges. That is not truth in advertising. You can’t say your call costs X then charge more after the fact. Very deceptive and quite an interesting practice. I will be forwarding this to the proper authorities. You were asked, but didn't provide, the number for the government agency that regulates these deceptive practices. Please also send a copy of my rental agreement. hidden toll charges in florida
When renting the car, they failed to tell me that the state toll system had recently changed to an all electronic system where by even if you pay the toll at the toll plaza, Dollar still charges you for the toll and then a $15 service charge for each toll plaza that you pass through, even though you paid in cash. I kept receiving toll notices weekly for one month after the rental. BEWARE, this is a SCAM!

To whom it may concern:
On August 29th, 2015 my car started giving me problems. On August 30th, 2015 I went to Fort Lauderdale Airport to rent a car. I found the cheapest rates which were Dollar and Thrifty, so I decided to go with them. They also accepted debit cards which made it more convenient because I did not own a credit card. Every week up until September 17th, 2015 I have been renting with both Dollar and Thrifty. On September 10th I reserved a vehicle for another weekly rental and was told by the front desk representative that I should rent directly through their website because I would receive better rates. I went on there to reserve a rental which required a $75.00 deposit and the balance was due at the desk. On September 17th, 2015 I went to pick up the reserved vehicle and they advised me that the policy had changed on September 14th, 2015 and now they have to do credit checks. So I was denied the rental because I did not pass the credit check and was told that I need a credit card in order to rent. The rental was never released to me, but I did not cancel. So I requested to get my deposit back. I was never notified by email or phone that they made a policy change. The front desk representative stated they cannot refund my deposit because it is done through a third party by the name of Car Trawler. I was given the information to call and contact someone. I called and was told they are not located in the U.S. and we are 5 hours ahead of them. Finally I was able to contact someone and explained my issue and now they are saying I cannot receive my deposit because I did not have a credit card. Speaking with 5 managers at Car Trawler and their all are saying the same thing. I advised them that the credit card was not an issue because the Fort Lauderdale Airport location except debit cards. Yet the Car Trawlers Representatives and their Supervisors are saying the same thing. I was told on several occasions that I would receive a call back and I never do. I call on September 20th and I was told to hold but the Representative hung up the phone after requesting 11 times to speak with a manager. On September 21st I called and spoke with a manager and she said that she would make an exception due it now being my fault. She stated I can receive my deposit back in the amount of $10.00 with an Administrative charge of $65.00. I tried to explain the situation over and over to the supervisor to advise her that this was not my fault and I should be entitled to my entire deposit, but she kept repeating about credit card. The credit card was never an issue because the Fort Lauderdale Airport Dollar accepts debit cards and the Airport location is who I made reservations for. I am upset and will be taking this matter further if this issue cannot be resolved fairly. Throughout this entire issue the customer service has been at its worst. I have been transferred all over the place. I am speaking to representatives who are not even located in the United States. I even went to the location to speak with the manager and their customer service was awful as well. Dollar/Thrifty made a policy change without me being notified, I made the reservation before the policy change, and the situation has not been handled properly. Before coming to this point I have tried to get this matter resolved. I have witnesses that can attest to the headache, financial loss, and frustration this has caused. It is now September 24, 2015 and I have not been able to speak with someone about finding a resolution. I have been renting with Dollar for 3 weeks and have not had this issue until the policy change that took place. I am asking for someone to resolve this issue. I am stressed. I have lost money that I cannot afford to lose. I am a single parent and this isn’t fair. Car Trawler is a HORRIBLE company to deal with and so is Dollar for not owning up to their responsibility in this situation. No one wants to help me from Dollar, but Dollar was who I was renting from for the past 3 weeks with the same debit card and I have my bank statements to prove that. I made my reservation before Dollar’s policy change at that location, so I should not be held for a vehicle I never received and that I did not cancel.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received from Dollar Car Hire on my recent trip to the USA. I booked a car with Dollar Car Rental on Sunday 16 August, from Las Vegas to San Francisco. My initial booking was for 2 days which meant the car was supposed to be returned on Tuesday 18 August. I extended my stay in Los Angeles and a...

This august (2015) i booked a full sized rental car from dollar rent a car in denver for 6 days with. When i arrived at the airport remote lot to pick it up, i was told that the car i had rented only had 4 cylinders, and that i was going to have trouble getting over the mountains in it. They recommended that i switch to a 6 cylinder car. I asked them what the price difference was going to be, and if there were any available. They told me that they happened to have one for $2.00/day less than my original car. I asked them how that was possible, and they said, "well, sometimes it just works out that way." i left in a hurry in the new vehicle, a crossover of some sort, without carefully examining the contract, just relying on the word of the desk agent (Shame on me!). By the time i got around to looking at the contract, i was on my way back to the airport in denver. I noticed that the charges had gone form $434.00 to $940.00. I called customer service to see if there was anything that could be done to waive some of the charges that i had not anticipated, and also let them know what i had been told at the time of rental. I found out later that their whole 6-cylinder argument was entirely false, and the original 4-cylinder car would have performed quite adequately. The employees at the denver airport, particularly the manager, were surly and uncooperative, and i also got very little assistance from their corporate customer service. Although i feel that their actions were unscrupulous and unethical, i place much of the blame on myself for not reading the fine print in my hurried state at the time of rental. Let this be a warning to you...Do not believe what any employee tells you that you are getting in the contract...Read the fine print before you leave the parking lot! You are merely a dollar sign to these companies, and if they can "trick" you into a bigger charge, they will never hesitate to do so. They do not care if they lose you as a customer, and they also do not care about the ill will that they are creating in their customer base.
customer service
This was a horrible experience from pick up to drop off and still now ONE WEEK LATER...STILL A PROBLEM .
I made a reservation about 1 month prior to my flight, so I would have a car when I flew into Midland International airport.
Dollar Rental had no cars...I had to wait as a young lady text and called someone to bring a car...I missed my appointment. Finally brought me my car and it was parked in the Hertz rental space...which was fine
Upon return, I returned my car on a Sunday at 1pm 4 hours early and NO ONE was at the counter, they did have a drop box for the key...so I left a note with the space "Hertz" just like when I picked it up, mileage and key. The company send auto text ...about an hour later reminding me that my car is due at 5pm.
YESTERDAY 1 week later, I receive 3 phone calls and 2 texts regarding this car...is going to be reported stolen if I don't return it or contact Dollar immediately...I did only to find their office is closed on Sunday's...
Today Monday July 20th, I spend 30 minutes on hold and 30 minutes being switched from person to person ...only to find they have no record...of my phone number, the lease number only my confirmation number...FINALLY it is taken care of.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE...I WILL NEVER USED DOLLAR RENTAL AGAIN
rude thief
As I was attempting to rent a car, two gentlemen stopped in. They had rented a dollar rental car at another location and asked if they could add another driver's name to the rental agreement. The manger rudely refused. They responded by telling them that they were told they could add a driver at any Dollar location. He told them to get out and call corporate if they didn't like it. I should have up and left at seeing this, but as they are very far from the airport and near nothing else it would have been difficult to select another vendor at this late stage in the process.
When I returned the car, they found a small dent in driver's side door. It must have occurred in a parking log and never even saw it. I provided my car insurance and asked them to work it out with them. He told me it would be $1250 to repair the damage (no formal estimate was made, this was off the top of his head for the repair for a small dent), but he would take $800 now. I asked again that he work with my car insurance to settle this matter. A few months later, he decided to send it to a collection agency. He has never contacted my car insurance company. Now, I have to get a lawyer involved.
Other comments have described similar rude behavior and he insistent, "Go call corporate and get out" response to everything.
cheating consumer
I have used the Dollar.com website to rent cars on quite a few occasions. On Feb 3 2015, I searched for a car to support a trip in early March. I was provided an option to pay now to get a great deal: $88.74. I did not receive any indication that I was interacting with another site/vendor/broker. I got an e-mail confirmation from Dollar but did not open it until yesterday (Feb 14) when I was preparing for my trip. I noticed, unlike prior Dollar reservations, the e-mail required me to click into it to get the details. Once I did, I learned that while the car booked was Dollar, the booker was "cartrawler.com" a company in Dublin Ireland. Most important, I saw there was reference to the $88.74 payment, however, the voucher also stated I still owed $71.54 at the counter! I tried to call Dollar (after 12 minutes hold time, I hung up). I wrote Dollar an e-mail advising on what happened (assumed cartrawler had infected their site) and asking that they honor the $88.74. I did not hear back. Today, 15 Feb 2015, I tried calling Dollar again and learned they know about cartrawler (the customer rep did not come out and say this until I pressed for it), have an arrangement with them, and they would not guarantee the $88.74 (3 days plus 2 hours) that was originally cited as the total. The "best" they could do was provide a mid-size SUV at $40 per/day plus taxes (original car was a compact). I asked to speak to a supervisor and after a few minutes was told I was being transferred but ended back where I started- on hold via the general Dollar customer service line. After 5 minutes I hung up. Need to find a rental car for my trip elsewhere.
I will no longer use Dollar or any other company that does business with cartrawler. I am just glad I caught this in enough time to stop payment via my credit card.
over charging
On 12/8/14 I flew into Denver for a family emergency with no rent car arranged. I rented a car for one week, agreement # [protected].Two things happened that I am very disturbed about. #1-when I needed to extend my stay by one day the rates quoted of $39/day for the week rate or a $78 for daily rate became $129/day. #2-last week I was sent a bill of $72.20 for 4 tolls ranging in price from $1-$2.00 each with an administrative fee attached to it of $15.00 per toll. I was quoted $279/week but with charges it would be $386.58. I was actually charged $445. And then I got the bill for tolls.

overcharged
Was asked at counter if I wanted insurance option and I stated no. The agent
then said ok and sign the keypad. I did not read the 1000 words they had on
the screen as the agent said this has been waived please sign. I was charged
59.00 for this and called customer service who was very rude and stated do not
even ask for a refund as we have your signature on file you selected the insurance
option. Besides arriving at 10:00pm and no Vans wre available and was told to
stand in line that I was the 5th one to get a van and they could not tell me when that
was going to happen. Standing there with 3 children at night and had no idea when I was going to get a van...Unbelievable

rip-off with hidden additional charges
I rented a car with Dollar for 4 days. It seemed like a good deal when I got the estimated total to be $225 (including taxes) but I ended up paying $305 with all their additional fees and taxes. Which is fine if they were all legitimate charges and fees, but what ticked me off was they gave a compact car when my reservation was for a midsized car. I would advise caution while buying their "Prepaid Fuel" option. The compact car they gave me had a 12 gallon tank but they charged me 16 gallons and when I called their customer service they agreed to refund the difference for the down grade but denied to refund the difference and the lady was rude and said she can't do anything about it. WTF?. I would never rent from Dollar again (of course, unless it is really a very good deal) and never would buy the "Prepaid Fuel" option form any rental.
Goodbye Dollar!

I do NOT recommend Dollar Rent A Car, we had a very bad experience with them when we went Wyoming recently for funeral. They basically asked us to drive a car that wasn't safe and when we refused, they sent us a new car, but made us pay the $935 towing fee.
I know this sort of fraud happens to many people. I would suggest checking out this company:
There is some great news regarding car rental fraud- a nationwide company with over 1, 500 agents launches February First. They will go, in person, to verify an item, location, or business for you to make sure it is legitimate! The company is called Wegolook.com and here is a general description of them:
WeGoLook is an online service that provides visual confirmation and a personalized report, completed by a real person, to verify a prodcut, person, place or thing. WeGoLook customers will be better informed, avoid costly surprises, plus benefit from unbiased confirmation without having to travel.
It might be helpful to you and others to utilize their services before getting scammed- especially high-end items.
improper charge
6/25/2014 to 7/02/2014 I rented a car from Dollar Rent a Car (Rental Agreement #1J0237112) from the Providence airport (where I flew in and out of) to visit my sick mother in Groton, CT. A few weeks after the trip I receive a notice in the mail (Notice #[protected]) from a sub-division or agency Dollar sub-contracts tickets/tolls issues with (Dollar Processing Services) whereby the notice accused me of going thru a pay-toll in Chicopee, MA (near Springfield) and that since I did not rent the Dollar transponder I was being penalized the toll of $3.85 and a $15.00 administration fee.
The issue I have with this is I was nowhere near Chicopee, MA during my trip and I have not been in that area for years so the alleged toll charge at Chicopee, MA is erroneous and not valid. I have contacted Dollar, the agency citing me, and MA DOT in an effort to nullify this notice/charge and I have asked for pictures showing the license plate and vehicle associated with this toll charge... to date I have not received a reply and it feels like a "hung jury" as there is no evidence and only a false charge.
At this time I am not sure if this was just an honest error or is it some sort of a scam done by the car rental companies... I would like to know how many other people have had similar issues.
dishonest with car rental
I rented a car at sanford airport for a week through dollar rent a car. When I went through the website I got a conformation that said my rental would cost 196.32 for a week. I thought great this is nice until I got the bill. I declined the insurance 3 times to the sales person. I have insurance. I was charged anyway in the amount of $97.93. I asked about...

I am absolutely disgusted with Dollar Car Rental.
I go to rent a car on 2nd July 2014 at 10pm at the Pittsburgh International Airport. They say they have only on car which is white in color when i ask for other color options. The car had more than 20 scratches with paint off, dents on the bonnet and chips in the windscreen.
I have to walk back to the inside of the airport to report the problem.
When i start driving after having wasted half an hour I realised
that the car is stinking of urine and an orange sign shows up on the dashboard that explains a traction problem.
Then I pull over to a gas station, speak to them on their phone number and they ask me to return the car, When i go back which takes another 20 minutes they issue me a Gold Colored car. So they LIED as it appeared from the heavens!
The next day when I call the customer service number on the envelops I am tossed around for one and a half hours!
From a customer service representative to road side assistance! Then I call
again and then they say they are reservation and they transfer me to some other department which does not apply to me! All i wanted to let customer service know was they they LIED to me and wasted so much of my time and first gave me a car that was broken and offensively smelling.
So i finally wasted 3 hours of my precious time and am finally writing this because there was no customer service to reach at Dollar Rental!
