I am from sri lanka. I am a customer who bought a brand new corolla 141 model car which has send sri lanka. We have been informed that the fuel consumption rate of the above vehicle will be around 12 - 13 km per liter, at the time of placing the order. Since our decision of purchase is more on the fuel consumption rate we placed the order. But after we received the vehicle we realized that the actual rate is only around 7 - 8 km per liter. We are totally dissatisfied and disappointed. Earlier corolla model were much more better than this. With new technologies such as vvti and etc these rates should have been improved. Please tell us is there any way to get this improved. At the moment we are in trouble by buying your vehicle, there are other brands who's fuel consumption is far more better than this. So it's very very important to get something done on this to improve the fuel consumption rate. Somehow we need a improvement. We need a quick reply for the betterment of the car. Vehicle id no issued by sri lanka rmv - [protected] chassie no jtdbz 42e209029249, engine no 3zz3101369 - melani

Hi this is Delon from Sri Lanka. recently brought my 141 lx 2008. i am totally disagree with most of the comments in this section above. for me its a very good vehicle with good fuel consumption. its rather big and comfortable car, with a 1.6 engine and a big body this car is doing fuel very well.
for me in city drive traffic (11km per ltr)
Long Drive (15km per ltr)
in total run i have checked manually its doing (13.5km per ltr)
so what else more we can expect from a giant 1.6 vehicle gentleman? also good fuelling is depend on your driving skills.
for me its a good car physically /Technically with good fuel consumption. Recommend to buy it 🚘

if you willing to buy a vehicle only for more better fuel consumption, you guys can buy a hybrid toy 👍🏻

Thank You

The Toyota 141, 2008 series is a very good looking car and a car that can can two sides to a story. The Honda Civic 2008 also does about 8KM per liter of patrol and these cars can improve running kilometers by simply following a few things by the driver. Some of the things are always use 95 Octane Fuel and in IOC stations and their fuel is clean and there is no need to add Soltron. Secondly your service has to be on time. Driving with excessive acceleration and high speed can be a another cause to doing between 7-8 KM per liter. Just a another advise for all drivers to practice when pumping fuel to always fill them during evening. You will get the best fuel at this time when its not highly exposed to the heat. If your Odometer reads average 12 and 14 km per hour, you have a good running car. After all do you think other cars run 14 plus except for the modern hybrids. Love your car, keep it clean and drive safe on the roads which is the most important element of being a good driver. No road rage. Hope this helps.

Low fuel efficiency is a myth propagated by car vendors about this car to lower its second hand price. Probably, 141 corolla brand imported by the permit holders is the only brand new Japanese car available on the roads nowadays. I have been using this car for nearly 8 years by now. No repairs; no engine troubles. Done nearly 90000km. It is highly fuel efficient on long distance traveling ; definitely more than 15km/l. All cars do poorly in city limits.

ms Melani,

i and my father decided to buy corolla lx 141 as we were considering about the inner space to be quite enough four the six in our family. but all my father's friends were disagree of buying a 141 as it was condemned since its lower fuel consumption.
but finally we could be the third owner of well maintained 141 by toyota lanka and automiraj. the car was at Anuradhapura where the second owner was. so we had to drive all the way to Embilipitiya after buying the car :D. it was 310km and we had 14.5km/l avg. for your information when you do out station, reset you meters(avg fuel, avg speed) by giving a long press in relevant meter. again we went to Bandarawela via Ella rd and we had 12.5km/l for climbing up and had 16.4km/l for climbing down.
so we had impressive results for out-station and father told me it was 10.2km/l at Embilipitiya town. so if you are a city runner change your gear to d-3 and try not to accelerate continuously and break frequently and also 25 days in office and two three day out station doesn't help your over roll fuel economy. as above, calculate separately. 141 is having 4 speed gear auto 1.6l vvti engine and the body is considerably heavier than axio. mr Pradeep Dissanayaka was to right about the method to drive. and also try super petrol rather than 92oct as it gives you the results rather than the difference of rs.11(present price)
maintain it with care. it's a good roomy car which offers you a wide range of performance. so first you have to understand the vehicle and then observe the performances well and complain if you have. hope you'll figure it out (y)

Hi all,
Just came across this thread and thought of sharing what I have found out about this issue. This is solely for the 141 Corolla only one doesn't represent any other variants such as Axio, Altia or Verso etc.
The original 141s which started to roll out from the factory since 2007 (I believe) have the same 3ZZ-FE as the 121 with a remapped ECU. This map has been optimised for low rpm rates and the engine is coupled with a 4 speed automatic. With the above setup and being heavier than the 121, it is quite straightforward why 141 has a low fuel efficiency.
However, the face lift (2010 onwards) has a newer engine/ ECU map which have increased the power output. This has also been coupled with a CVT and this setup has resulted in delivering better fuel efficiencies as good as the 121 or better.
I hope this information would shed a light to some of your questions.
C.

Dear Melani,

I hope you have bought Corolla 141 Altis version it normally does 7-8Km/L but if you bought Corolla 141 Axio version you could find 13-14Km/L consumption. All wrong with Toyota World they told lies to customers. So sad!

i am an ower of 4 141 cars 2bluebirds and 2 alllions...i'm happy to say that my 141 is working 11.9-13 in town areas...and i have tested that its...working maximum 16.5 in long distance trips..with a/c...
so i'm telling that...it's depending on the driver of the car...because some of my drivers drive it for hires...then i cant get that much fuel working on the same car...normally i propose...go to the eco bulb..(.but it's very hard to pickup with the eco bulb in traffic)...and dont much use the acceletor...

Initially i also very sad about fuel consumption of my corolla 141.Then i staterd to practice many methored .finally i'm rellay happy to say im very happy with the fuel consumption of my corolla 141 .Specially guranteed if you are good driver you can drive above than 15km/l in out station. But initial 30, 000 km dont expect much performance & practice with current fuel consumption in out station.Specially try to keep constant your accelarator & then will nortice automatically your RPM is coming down, Then fuel consuption is going high.If you are familier with the road start to reduce speed(Without using break) at least 1.5 times than normal 121 or any other smaller car.Your speed will not reduce. When you drive in a city CHANGE YOUR GEAR TO 3RD DON'T DRIVE WITH D" thats too impotent (please see above comment on Mr.Amitha Athauda).Main secret is try to keep your accelarator in constant possition.Specially arround 70 kmph -80 kmph gave optimum result for me.

I am writing this because many layman has written incorrect data which confuse a non tecnical person .So here is all the data i have found out correct to best of my knwoledge and ability. As end of the day its the fuel consumption that matters. As most of us drive cars in the city. Axio has proved its self that its more economical than 141. brand new cars needs to loosen up only 5000 km to improve fuel consumption. 1.6 3zze engine in 141 is an old 2000 built a older engine compared to Axio 1.5 1NZfe 2007 engine ...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZZ_engine.
So what Toyota did is to sell cars to Asia including Sri Lanka with an old engine for new body.

ok guys you all need to understand the fact that the fuel consumption obviously varies from one driver to the other. who are a bit hard on paddle would get couple of less kms than the slow movers. so there will be a 2/3km differences in the economies you guys get. all and all do not expect corolla 141 to be economical as 121 since its obviously a bigger car. i guess the 2000cc 141 would be better on fuel than 1600cc version since the engine is powered enough to push the heavier bigger body of 141. when it comes to axio it does better than export model 141 since its a much smaller and its fixed with a cvt tranny. generally if you see domestic models have been more economical than export models in most of jap cars ( mazda 3 vs axela, civic ferio etc ) someone had mentioned about a noise from axio gear box. dude axio has a cvt tranny which should be taken care of carefully. not a big deal but just you have to make sure that the oil changes are done on time. remember this is not automatic fluid you have to pour in. it is cvt fluid. i have seen quite a few of allion260s got shattered their cvt boxes as the owners have poured normal automatic fluid. allion 260 and axio are the very first toyota cars came to SL market with CVT tranny where as honda civics came 10 years ago with cvts.so such mistakes could happen commonly by toyota users. 7-8 kmpl is the general fuel economy of a 141. the fuel economies that the agents claim are under the controlled conditions where as in practical world it would be far less when you stop in traffic inch to inch and take 90 degrees bends from minute to minute in colombo road conditions. every time you stop your car in traffic and take bends remember it has to rev back as well so obviously it consumes more fuel.

I bought a brand new Corolla 141 Diesel model car .it is observed that common material fail of the gadget built for air condition flow vent regulating device (register)there are four numbers clips (left and right 2 and in middle two). the technical name of this is "register"but it is called for complete part and braking only moving middle part for holding for adjust AC direction of this "register".
This small clips not available in local market.it is understood complete unit to be purchased very costly. Toyota company should do something in favour of customers.

Mr D.S.P.A.R.De Silva
Now I do not agree with you because I checked my corolla 141 fuel consumption from Katugastota to Anuradapura via Kurunegala. It was working 16.3 Km / lts
Then I cheeked again from kaduruwela to Batticaloa and return same way It was working 16.5 km/lt
But Anuradapura to Polonnaruwa It was working 13.9 Km/lt as we visited Atamasthana.
From Polonnaruwa to Katugastota it was working only 13.3km/lt
But normally in the kandy city it is working 8.0 ~9.0 Km/lt

Both toyota Altis (what you all called here as 141) and corolla axio is the same car [both NZE-141 model]. Only difference is that Axio is the domestic model (manufactured for Japanese standards) while Altis is the export model. There are few modifications in Altis compare to the Axio, since the Altis is being exported to countries with tropical climate (Heat package is added). Technology and mechanical/electronic components are same, but body and type of material that has been used may differ.

Toyota Corolla 141 is a fuel efficient vehicle. Most these vehecles import under government permits as brand new vehecles. therefore all brand new vecles take additional fuel in early stages. Axio is a recondition car thats why it named as high fuel efficient car. same in 121. After 45000 to 65 000 km running on the road 141 is also take low fuel for city running. Other hand most these 141's commonly used in city Aareas, if we can drive nearly 10000km in outsttion, it helps to boost overall engine performances of the car. thats the truth. please check it. I think Toyota Corolla 141 is a good car than Axio model.

Yes . It is very true. I have a 141 and it does ave 8-9 km/hr. I think it is one of less fuel efficient cars today even when compared with high power engine such as 2000 cc. That was not expected and not told by Toyota Lanka when we buy the car brand new.

One of my friends 141 had the sudden acceleration problem and it run over 8 people at Base line railway station petrol shed. Luckly only 2 persons critically injured. People thought he was drunk and people beat him hard. This was shown in Sirasa TV. Now another incident is reported in Telecom car(Corolla 141). Be careful. Toyota Lanka is dumb

I am also a owner of toyota 141. its clear that this vehicle is the vehicle having most uneconomical fuel efficiency in the sri lanka today. Before buying this 141, I searched the toyota web and got information that it works 15.7km/l. But, it works only 7-8km/l on city and 10-11km/l on highway. when I inquired this problem from toyota lanka, they said that it will be ok after running about more than 10, 000km. But, now I understood that these all are lies. The truth is toyota has manufactured this special version for permit holders to their budgets and also get the maximum profit from such a 3rd world country like sri lanka because of no law for the protection of consumers. Now we have only following options.

1. All the 141 ownwers must get together and insist toyota lanka to attennd this problem and discuss with toyota japan for asolution to this problem. somtimes this can be solve by a modification to the existing engine. They know well how to do it. We like to pay some reasonable amount for this modification

2. Otherwise, we must take a legal action against toyota lanka and toyota japan for misleading of customers. Recently in America such a incident was happened for poor breaking system installed (for the same brand toyota) and all the vehicles were returned to japan for the rectification with toyota's cost. I am sure that our case is very similar to this case and we can win.

Please send this message to everybody having a toyota 141.

I also own a Toyota Corolla 141. In outstation rides she runs about 12 km/l... On average she has run 9 km/l.. Fuel efficiency would be higher as the engine gets older... as i guess...
