Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands www.besthealthmag.ca/wii

My name is Sylvie Robert and I work for Reader's Digest Canada Customer Care.

If you are trying to get to this URL - www.besthealthmag.ca/wii - to enter the contest, please don't use Google, Yahoo or any other search engine.

Just type the address in the address bar at the top of your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). This will take you straight to the page and you will be able to enter.

Good luck !

Try cliquing on "File" then on "Open".
Type in the URL (www.besthealthmag.ca/wii) in the box.
Click on OK.

If that doesn't work, I would suggest that you try with a different web browser.

The site is up and the contest ends August 31, 2009.

Before she is to cash this check, she is supposed to contact a Mr. Ron Pittsfield, a representative, phone No. [protected] ext. #1. with the prize claim #. This check is a citibank check, drawn from Strategic Focus Cities in New York city, New York. This enveloped my wife received appears to have come from Canada. Yea. I won a surprise gift. That is what the card read that came with my latest copy of Readers Digest. I hurried to my computer. Free surprise OPPORTUNITY reads the screen. What a sneaky way to solicit for the CD Club. Two free CD's and then one every 6-8 weeks that I can purchase. SNEAKY SNEAKY SNEAKY. I am disappointed with the sneaky tactics to get someone to join a CD or book club.

I had a subscription, bought and paid for, THEN, because of my own recklessness, when one of the things for entering your contest came, (if I ordered a subscription) thinking my subscription must have been nearly over, (don't keep track of those things very well knowing you will remind me, I ordered, to get into the draw. THEN, I started to get 2 subscriptions at once. I found the phone # somewhere and spoke to a very nice young man who understood perfectly, AND, he just added the newest subscription to the one I was already recieving.
NOW, a few days ago, I recieved the 2 duplicate magazines again. I contacted someone by e-mail and asked them to once again SORT IT OUT. Yesterday, Friday 15th, I recieved a message on my answering service that there had been some mistake and one of my subscriptions had been cancelled. I could not hear very well, my answering machine is cheap and doesn't work very well, HENCE, I keep following thru with the contests to try to win. Now, it just so happens when I recieved the last message, I was sitting at the kitchen table going thru the lastest contest, AND, LOW AND BEHOLD, I could enter if I placed another order. HELP ME

Anyone else out there as disappointed as I am in the so called Reader's Digest : "Win 1 of 3 Sony GPS Devices"? I've been receiving this magazine for more years than I can count and I do enjoy reading them, obviously or I wouldn't receive them anymore. But this is the second time this contest has had no web site to enter. Also with this issue I received a letter stating that "We've earned Canada's "most trusted" magazine reputation". Well, I think that reputation is about to take a nose dive. Come on guys! If you're going to put the junk mail in with your magazine, then at least make sure it's not a scam. I can go online if I want that.

In my attempt to log into your given website-( www.rd.ca/ssvault)
the site appeared but there was no opportunity given to enter the
combination No. given on the Free Entry slip . Instead - a request to send in a complaint.. which is what you are reading!

This is about the 3rd or 4th time I have found the same result.. which I find to be very negative publicity. Is that your aim?

This is one of the many scams of Readers Digest they make you believe you are going to win and when you want to register or find out no such possibility is available. The only thing they want you to do is subscribe to another magazine or bookscam

It seems unlikely that Readers Digest would mess up like this as they have always had a very professional media system. Therefor, one must assume this contest is not genuine, even someone has gone to some large expense in printing and arranging distribution through bonefide companies. READER'S DIGEST NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE!

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands No free gift for preferred subscribers

As many people stated, I am a preferred subscriber that received a card inside the Readers Digest magazine. I tried to log on per the instructions on the card, but to no avail. Nothing!

Readers Digest has been, in the past, one of the most subscribed and reputive magazine, so for this scam to be associated with this magazine, astounds me. I cannot believe that they do not stand behind whatever it is they are offering.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Misleading Advertising

I ordered a Canadian Music/Artists CD last year from a card that was enclosed with our RD subscription. The price indicated was $28.00 and change on the card plus shipping and handling. There were a few good songs on it and I remember the $28 standing out clearly in my mind because I have ordered maybe 3 things in my life from a mail-in. I do all remote purchasing on line where you can see the shipping, pricing, and have a contract and buyer protection (it was around the time I was spending postage stamps like pennies on the RD sweepstakes contests that I finally got sick of trying to keep up with).

I received the CD which had the expected music, feeling it was a bit pricey for what was offered, but since I'd ordered it knowing that, I'd pay for it. Then I saw the invoice was for over $88.00!

That was a LONG way from $28 and change! Gosh I wish I had the card - there wasn't any asterisk by the price or fine print apparent saying it would be 3 payments of $28 plus shipping. It was false advertising if my memory serves me right.

I wouldn't care HOW good the music was, no CD is worth $88 to me...

So now the collection calls have begun. I told them keep calling.

Information included in the monthly subscription indicating the existence of a website where we are directed to go and enter a special access code provided to enter for a chance to win a specific prize does not exist. The most current example is the prize to be drawn for Nov.30/09 for a Wii sports deluxe package at the www.rd.ca/wiisports . There is no such site and this is not the first time this has happened.

Readers Digest marketing practices are very much misleading. My wife got a letter, saying that she had won thousands of dollars. She just needed to reply to the mail in.

Thinking that Readers Digest Canada as a very old and reputable company, she mailed in thinking that she has won.

They kept sending a ``free copy of their magazines``every month ...

We were surprised to find out later that they wanted my wife to pay for the magazines. We have ignored they invoices.

This is a very dishonest marketing practice and we intend to contact BBB and report the situation.

As a long time customer of RD, I was expecting to be treated somewhat better than I have been.I am receiving a bill for a gift subscription tha I started a few years ago.My son, the recipient of this gift.has moved from Ont to Alberta..That was a year ago. I spoke to someone in your organization many months ago and cancelled my subscription.I now receive my monthly threat to pay a bill that I DO NOT have. I do not respond well to unwanted correspondence . If you believe that your threats are going to force me to pay, you may have to rethink what you have stated.

Reader's Digest----Bloody rogues! They forced me into buying a book I did not ask for. While they send you(the subcribers) countless letters, tempting you to enter competitions, somewhere down the line, they cheat you into paying for a bk they drop at your doorstep. If you question them, they simply tell you that you requested for it and then start sending you letters issuing legal threats into paying up. they refuse to take the book back. ###s!

This is in response to cliff wilson, Judyds and Claire Rice.

My name is Sylvie and I work for Reader's Digest in Customer Care.

I am sorry to learn that you have been unable to enter the draw but can assure you that the website exists and the contest is valid. The same was true in 2009.

Allow me to explain that, if you are trying to find the link readersdigest.ca/nikon through a search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.), it is possible that you will not be able to access the website to enter the contest.

To access the URL provided on the card you received, you must type it in the address bar of your web browser (if you need help locating the address bar, perhaps you can contact a friend or your Internet Service Provider).

You may also click "File" then "Open" in your web browser (for example, Internet Explorer) and type the address in the space provided. Be sure to type the address in lower case as upper case may not work.

I hope this will be of help to you and I wish you the best of luck.

If you have any questions, you can view our FAQs at www.rd.ca/contact. You may also write to us at customer.service@readersdigest.ca or call us at [protected].

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Fraud and lies

I received in the mail a letter from Reader's Digest. The letter came in a plain white envelope, post marked from Canada. It also had a check in it for $3, 481.10. The check was made out from AIG Annuity Insurance Company

The letter said I had won a lump sum payout of $255, 069.00. The check I received was to cover any charges that may be required before I receive my funds. It was singed by Jonathan Walsh, Prize Disbursement. Nice picture of him too.

To receive my funds I was to contact Paul Givon or Erika Cohn at [protected] to activate my claim before I deposit the check in my bank.

When I called the man was very Vague about how I won the money. He said I had to put the check in my bank and then call him back. At that point he would get the information he need to put the rest of the money into my account. Big Red Flag went up in my head.

I looked Reader's Digest up on the internet. Checked for Sweepstakes rip off and found out the letter was a rip off. My big concern is people who would take this serious and not think to look in to it before they put the money in the bank.

It happen to us same people and details. Normally I would check into but my computer was down. I said if it clears in my bank I know it was real. My bank cleared it and after I sent him the money then they came back and said the check was no good. So we had to pay it back. I made out a police report and the sheriff department turned it into GBI. I am leaving it in God's hand my heavenly Father. I know it will be taken care of.

I got this scam today in the mail as well. I feel better about though. you should be insulted by them trying to scam you for $3481, they were going to use me for the upfront price if $4736. I too worry that this scam will attract people that are financially struggling. It just seemed to good to be true to me so I checked into it. my details are different and they seem to vary with each case, mostly with the names, my required contacts were Peter Gilane and Rhonda Orwood and the check was from Aviva, payable through the Bank of Montreal.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Fake Checks

The letter you recieve Will say it's from Readers Digest but it is'nt It is fake.
The Check that comes with it will be written to you for what ever amount mine was for 3, 797.06 it said to be from their insurance company to use for lawyer fees and so forth so you can recieve your actual winnings mine was $255, 069.00. The check company name said it was from HiLite International Broadway, Carrollton Texas (usa) I followed up on the address through the net this is a automotive tech company. Then I called the bank listed on the check whitch said National city Bank Asland Ohio The bank ran the account number on the check it was not there, then they ran the company name and they have a warning on these fake checks it is under investigation. So Please every one check out the check before you deposite it because these scammers are wiping out your accounts and overdrawling your accounts.

I just got (almost) the same thing in the mail. It is obviously bogus, upon careful reading, but very well-executed in contrast to the more familiar email scams from displaced heiresses, etc. I heartily applaud your diligence in contacting the bank.

The plain white envelope, no return address, mailed in Canada is a good tip-off that this is not from either Atlanta or Dallas. Here's a wonderful irony: the postmark says "Fraud - Prevent it!" (also in french!) That postmark seems to include a canadian postal code--perhaps V6B 1Z1 which is downtown Vancouver near the public library.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Billing Scam

After receiving and responding to a Readers Digest Sweepsakes e-mail, I received a Readers Digest "Gift" book in US Mail approximately 1 week later. The packaging read "Your Free Gift". This was not requested/ordered from me and I assumed that this was a thank you gift for participating in their sweepstakes. Shortly thereafter, I received a bill from Readers Digest in the amount of $43.15. After inquiring with their Customer Service Dept, I have their permission to return to book providing I pay for shipping costs. Please be leary of anything Readers Digest sends you labled "Free Gift". Don't get taken like I did.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Collection Harassment for book never ordered

I received a book I never ordered. I emailed Reader's Digest about it and never heard back so I donated the book. I have too many books for my book cases as it is. They sent me to their collection dept. and I am being harassed by them to pay for the book. I canceled my magazine subscription as a result and they had the gall to charge me for another year just recently. They charged me for another year in January and my magazine subscription does not expire until February. I never re-subscribed. I have to go to my bank now and tell them that was fraudulent charged. Yet, I am still being harassed for this book I never ordered and had no interest in. It was a book that contained new writers' short stories, to try and get those writers work out there, or something like that. I don't read books like that. I don't read books by any new writer. There are plenty of classics I have yet to read, history I still want to learn about and this piece of junk, in my view, they want $26.90 for. I'm done with Reader's Digest. Further, I never pay what I don't owe. No matter what.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Won't let me cancel subscription

I've repeatedly sent them back their bills with a note saying I don't want their magazine and now I'm getting a " Third Notice" . I do not want this going to a collection agency and they do not provide a telephone number on their bill so I can contact a real human being to get their attention.

THis is bordering on harassment and not the first time I've had this problem with Readers Digest products.
Hope you can assist.

Sincerely,
Heather Donald

Hi there, I also wanted to cancel my subscription, which was easy enough to do via the telephone. Just give them a ring at [protected] and tell them you would like to cancel your subscription. Their number is hard to find but it is available on the magazine website if you have a look for it.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands false free draws

Readers Digest over the past 5 years have always sent me documents that I was in the top 3 numbers in our area. What I find funny is Tahsis only has a population of 450 people. I posted a letter on the bulletin board to see how many people subcribed to the magazine. It turns out their are quite a number and they have all received notification that they were also in the top three. Leading people that they may actually be winners. I have taken it one step further and contacted a corporate lawyer who is also a relative. He is compiling quite the file, not just based on Tahsis but also other communities. Its amazing what he has found. Ive been buying readers digest products for years but now realize they are just a scam. Im totally disabled so of course Id love to win. I figure I have a better chance buying B.C.649 Lotto tickets. At least you dont have to buy products and you do stand a chance to win. Its a Canadian magizine but is open to the world.SCAM Carol Dopelhamer.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Fraudulent company

I received a letter from Readers Digest stating that I had won a lotto contest from a recent drawing. I called the number and asked to speak with the person identified and was told that I needed to deposit the insurance check enclosed to insure the delivery of my prize.

While I wanted to get more details on the contest and tried to look it up on the internet and wasn't finding anything. So I decided to call RD and I spoke with a rep from Customer Service. I read him the letter and he apologized and told me the letter was a fraud.

I was devastated of course considering that this really had my hopes up due to me battling Leukemia. This was like an answer to my prayers but turned out to be another blow to my life.

The person on the letter that I spoke with stated to me that I was entered in this contest through my utility company and that I had won a lump sum of $525, 000. The were very reluctant to give me all the info until the insurance checks were processed through my bank which is what raised a red flag.

I am so glad that I id not tie the check in through my normal bank account nor did I give them my account number. I just cannot believe that this happened.

I received a book in the mail from Readers Digest along with a bill for $30.71. I never ordered this book and now I am receiving a past due that I better pay this by 2/22/2017 or else. I have never been on a Readers Digest site so how could I have even ordered this. I see from the complaints that this happens quite often. I will be calling the 800 # that appears on this site on Monday to clear this up. I don't want to spend the money to send it back either. Waste of my time. Readers Digest used to be a reliable company but I wouldn't subscribe to that anymore. What a disappoitmen.

I order a subscription to Readers Digest, my credit card
was charged immediately on 9/22/08. The person for
whom I order the magazine never got it. I am a paralegal and know my way around the court system. If the magazine is not sent immediately, I will sue you in small
claims court.

I understand you have had numberous complaints before, and I wil not hesitate to take you to court.

I will give you 15 days to send the magaZine and extend the
subscription by 2 months.

Okay, so I've read a lot of complaints about this "Surprise Gift". I also read that it wasn't a scam, just no instruction on how to enter. I would think Reader's Digest (web designer) would have put a little more into it. I am joining in on the 1000's of complaints. Trying to log in, I got denied. So "PLEASE!" let the Reader's Digest readers know what is going on with this web site.

I would appreciate any help!

Yesterday I received an entry to a contest to win a wii sports from Readers Digest, when I entered the code the only thing that came up was a link to the complaints board. This kind of thing has happened several times before with R.D., the websites they give you are invalid this is a time waste and smacks of being a scam, someone should have the authority to investigate this ongoing practice of R.D., this kind of ploy just isn't acceptable.

I just received a card in the mail with my readers digest monthly magazine advising to go to specific readers digest site and enter my access code. When trying to find the Readers Digest Site it cannot be found and no longer exists. My daughter really wanted an IPod for Christmas and this would have been great. The contest supposedly closes tomorrow and we cannot get the site. I also tried the normal Readers Digest site and looked at their contests and there is no contest for the IPod touch listed whatsoever.

I have been a loyal readers digest customer for more than 15 years with the monthly magazine as well as a gift subscription for a relative and the condensed books subscriber as well.

I will seriously be reconsidering renewal of my subscriptions with all Readers Digest products as a result of this false advertising.

Rd supposedly gives you a chance at a free ipod touch with an access code to enter but entry address is not there and this constitutes fraud in my books. This to me is a sellers scam and not worthy of the product nor the company!

The inset card said a free surprise gift is waiting for you...
Found the website but it offers gifts for sale. Nothing is mentioned about free surprise gift.

Readers used to be a quality booklet but in the past 15 years it has been falling on its face.

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands Paying for Nother

I ordered the "free trial" from the book club. I didn't like the condensed version of a favorite author in the 1st book and decided to cancel. I sent the book I didn't want back immediately b/c I didn't want any excuse to be billed. Instead, I've been billed ab $30 for the book I returned. There is no direct contact info. Wasn't able to find anything on-line, either. No one responded to my letter...I just keep getting the ugly invoices. I just got cheated out of $30 for a book I don't even have. (At least 2 books would've been worth the $). Others told me it was a scam. I should've listened.

I am writting in regards to a bill my sister received. She is ill and does not have a computer. This notification says she owes $60.13 but she nver received any books or magazines for that amount. I have looked for a phone number to contact your magazine and I have been unable to locate any phone numbers. Her acct. number [protected] and we would like to have this cleared up. We have no problem paying this but she never received any literature from your company. We would have sent it back as she is not able to comprehend. She no longer reads and does not have the knowledge of receiving any other bills from your company. Thank you very much and I would appreciate hearing back from you on this acct. Her name is Tina Martinez of 717 Greenfield Ct. Upland, Ca. and my e-mail is [protected]@verizon.net. Thank you very much

Reader's Digest / Trusted Media Brands unsolicited mail

I keep getting unsolicited mail from these guys. I have told them repeatedly via email and phone that I don't want anything from them. They tell you, "oh that's another department" and things of that sort. I used to respect Reader's Digest but not anymore. Don't ever give them your name or email or anything. They're horrific!
