We purchased this washer from home depot on february 10, 2018 along with a new dryer (model medb955fc) and both were delivered on april 13, 2018 (we waited for about two months to get them installed). Last night, we heard a loud "pop" and, upon investigation, discovered that the glass top of the washer had shattered. We were not using the washer at the time and nothing was sitting on top of the washer; it was just sitting there in the laundry room and the glass shattered. We discovered glass on the floor, on the top of the unit and inside the unit itself. I called maytag this morning to report the issue. I have now been on the phone with a nice gentleman (for almost two hours) who tells me the process is to have a service technician come look at the problem, order a new part, then schedule installation. I told him we would much prefer a new unit since we were not comfortable that pieces of glass had not gotten into the mechanisms of the unit (controls, motor(s), etc.). He said he was sorry but, the process was to repair first. He offered to check on the timing of getting a new glass top shipped to our house. It sounds like will be about two weeks to get the new top, then another week or so to get a service tech to clean up the unit and install the new top. This is totally unacceptable - this is a brand new unit! And, it is not an inexpensive unit! Maytag should, without question, replace this old unit immediately. There is, apparently, a defect with this particular unit or with this particular model. It unacceptable to have this brand new unit repaired (and for it to take another 2-3 weeks, or longer, to do so). Instead, it should be replaced asap. By the way, while typing this, I have been disconnected and am now trying to call back to customer service. To say this extremely frustrating is the understatement of the century! Maytag should be better than this.
