fraudulent accounting
Their accounting practices are fraudulent and designed to create maximum fees. Had pending direct deposit, showed as available, yet they charged a series of automatic bill payments a day later and still charged overdraft fees! So they held the deposit (regular payroll deposit) 48 hours in order to send through the bill payments a day later. The Local manger was almost completely useless. 800 # customer service reps worse than useless. This happened 3 times! This is an evil bank! Avoid!

I used to be the biggest fan of TD Bank. Opened my account with them 10 years ago or so! Got all my family to transfer money there and recommended it to everybody. Commerce WAS the best and the most convenient bank. Never had Any problems with them and WAS in love with their customer service. That was back then, good old times lol. When it became TD, - I did some research and it looked like it was going to get better. TD was one of very few banks which pulled their investments out of all mortgage mess that country going through, -oh god was I wrong. All started with overdraft fee of $35. They repeatedly lie to me that they send new rules & regulations out to me and I will get it any day. I canceled my overdraft protection back in 2001(it’s a checking account not a credit card is my philosophy), but the very first month they introduced $35 overdraft fee, they let through 9 bogus internet transactions in the raw to go through and charged me $35 each time (looks like bankers and hackers working together now), not to mention that in 10 previous years I used my card 5 times ( if that) over internet and supposedly I had some anti theft protection from TD ( I know that because most of the times I travel from NJ to Fl I had to call them to get gas, - it wasn’t going through), but if they making money all protection goes to hell I guess! I asked them why I have an overdraft protection when I canceled it long time ago, their rep told me, that as I favor they gave it to me so my mortgage payment check wouldn’t bounce! What a BS ! So they made a note on my account in front of me not to let any payments through unless there is money in there! Then, just to make sure I went to different branch, and the confirmed that the note was made. Guess what, month later I was negative $1.99 because of some internet transaction again. Of course that famous computer glitch took my $850 deposit, for some miracle I didn’t throw away receipt ( they should have advice people that week to keep their receipts and say we have a problem not “ out computers temporary off line”). On top of that, for 1 year and 3 months I couldn’t get my statements send out to me. I called and requested it 8 times over the phone, and 4 times in person in 4 different branches-NOTHING. All that coasted me tons of time, money orders (while they investigate), and most important millions of nerve cells. But the last drop in the cup was when my mother receive her statement last month, she noticed $3000.00 deposit through branches ATM(which wasn’t made by her), then two days later $3000.00 withdraw(which wasn’t made by her). When she called, rep told her that one of her family members must of got a hold of her bank card….! When she said its just her and a cat, TD rep got angry and told her to call police if she wishes ( I wish she did), when she got supervisor on the phone, she told her that as a favor they can try to investigate…….
I don’t see that most convenient BS commercial any more, I guess even TD bank themselves don’t have the balls to say it!
P.S. Closed all my accounts there, refinance my car with some one else. I don’t know if TD Ameritrade rep will talk me into staying with them. Capital One looks pretty well as a bank, just compare their interest rate for checking TD Bank-0.25% Capital One-1.3%
Wow, what a differents.

real time banking???
Somewhere from the purchase order date to invoice date BBT alleged I had a negative balance. In the middle of the night BB&T hit me with 35 dollar overdraft item fees per transaction then told me I had a negative balance several days ago?. MY records show I did NOT have a negative balance and I made 2 deposits within the week which in turn should of prevented the overdraft fees and so called negative balance?
BBT REAL TIME ONLINE CHECKING HAS A MAJOR DELAY BUILT IN FROM THE PURCHASE ORDER DATE TO THE INVOICE DATE. THE DELAY IN THE REAL TIME PURCHASE ORDER TO INVOICE DAILY BALANCE OPENS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE BBT CROOKS TO HIT CUSTOMERS WITH EXTRA FEES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT..! I AM FORCED TO PRINT OUT MY ACCOUNT BALANCE EACH DAY TO KEEP TRACK OF BBT THEFT!...Hmmmmmmm.
SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME TWO OVERDRAFT CHARGES, AND SUFFICIENT FUNDS IN THE ACCOUNT.
wrongful overdraft fees (who knew?)
Hello all,
I recently became fed up with these embezzlers. I have been banking with BB&T for over 4 years now. I have the student free checking, and in lieu of charging a monthly account fee, they transfer money from checking to savings. $25 dollars on the fifth of each month.
My account was running a little low, the lowest it had been in months. I hadn't overdrafted in about 3 months or so. I had also been keeping a dilligent register so BB&T could not screw me.
Well...on the 5th, I bought $20 in gas. The transfer also happens on the 5th. Neither one of these transactions posted until the 8th, which was a monday if I'm not mistaken. Because of this, BB&T deliberately chose to credit the $25 dollar transfer BEFORE my $20 dollar gas purchase, causing me to overdraft 3 times total, for $105.
If this transfer had not occurred at all (if there aren't sufficient funds, the transfer won't happen), then I would have still been in the green.
Simply put, I never went over my funds, so it is technically and literally impossible for me to have overdrafted. My register proves this. Any way this is cut, they come out looking like crooks.
I can personally attest to this companys dishonesty. Withholding information is far too commonplace.
90% of all overdraft fees hit the poorest 10% of all bank account holders. What does that tell you?
Sincerely,
Hunter M Barker

one more thing on my first comment...just because it is written in your register doesn't mean the transactions have cleared the bank. I can write that I deposited a million dollars, doesn't mean I have a million dollars to spend.
YOU SAID:
90% of all overdraft fees hit the poorest 10% of all bank account holders. What does that tell you?
tells me that that 90% should not have checking accounts. You can't be charged overdraft fees if you use cash.
either the money is there or it isn't. if it isn't, then don't spend any money until your withdrawals and transfers have occurred. BB&T doesn't screw you, you get charged for overdrawing your account. It's not BB&Ts fault.
overdraft fees
I recently incurred two overdraft charges on my checking account at bbt. I deposited a check and was told that $100 would immediately be credit to my account, when it actually didn't go through until the next day. As a result, instead of the $144 I should have had, I only had about $70. Then, over the weekend, I made purchases, assuming I had my full check, not half of it. My account again overdrafted, resulting in a balance of -$276. I went into my local branch and attempted to resolve this, informing them of what the teller had told me when I deposited my check. I even asked them to simply adjust that overdraft, then if the second would have still occurred, that I would resolve it. They refused, saying that it wasn't their fault. Then, I receive a notice saying that after 7 days a $30 charge would be placed on my account, a notice I received 4 days after the charge was applied. I am currently unemployed and have no steady income of any kind. I like this resolve in some way that I can close my account, even if it means a $0 balance in my account. I will no longer do business with bbt and will strongly discourage anyone I know to use them.

fees
I have not used my account in more than two years. I keep it open in case I got a job that required direct deposit. As of December 1, 2009 I had $0.56 in my account. Yesterday, I received a letter saying that my account was negative $35.44 which shocked me. I call my local branch and asked why I was overdrawn when I hadn't even used this account. She informed me that during the months of Dec and Jan when I called the customer service number on the back of my card and ACTUALLY talked a representative they charged be $2.00 PER phone call. They charged me $6.00 total in fees for the phone calls and THEN charges me $30 for an overdraft fee. I told her that this was complete ###. What kind of company charges their customers to speak to a live person through customer service!?!?! They told me that the overdraft fee might be waived but the phone fees I will have to pay. Yeah, Right. Sorry, this girl don't play nice when things like this happens. I am NOT paying ANYTHING to them because I feel what they did and do everyday is wrong. I will going to my local branch tomorrow and closing my account. PERIOD.

These people are ridiculous. I got a mysterious $8 maintenance fee on my statement, with no explanation after having an account for 4 years without this happening. SO I called and they told me it's because I didn't meet the $2500 that month. Nice, so they were going to keep charing me $8 until my savings account was empty? SO fine. I transferred funds into the account and the lady said everything was fine I shouldn't be fined next month. OF COURSE, I get next month's statement and another $8 fee, then I look at my balance which remained over 2500 since I put the money in. SO I call them again. I get put on hold 3 times and get told a supervisor will call me back because of course she can't figure out why I got charged. Of course, 5 hours later no supervisor has called me back. SO I get on the phone and call again. I explain everything to a very sweet woman. SHe tries to figure it out and is again perplexed. She finally claims it's because the average since last month is not over 2500 I got charged again. This sounds ridiculous to me. I said well I don't think I should pay this since your employees are lying to me. I asked the lady last month if I would be charged for this month and she said NO. She starts sputtering about talking to a supervisor puts me on hold where I get to listen about BB&T's values (YEAH RIGHT). Then they tell me they can't take maintenance fees off my account, I have to talk to my local branch. THEN WHY THE HELL HAVE I SPENT 30 MINUTES AND 2 PHONE CALLS DISCUSSING THIS WITH YOU PEOPLE! So she gives me the local number. I call them and get an earful of attitude. They start asking me if I've been writing checks from this account, I SAY NO (shouldn't they be able to tell if I've been writing checks from this account?) and that I called the 1800 number and they all said it was about the amount of money in the account. She says I'm going to have to call you back. YEAH I'll be holding my breath. Incompetence doesn't even begin to describe it.
The fee is for talking to their 24 hr 800 number customer service (never call that # to talk to someone unless you have an emergency... such as you lost your card/ checks) call the branches during working hours... its free ... yea... you have to look up their numbers on the website or google it... but in any case... its peferable because then if you need to follow up you can always go in and see that person face to face
Charging a fee for service might seem unfair, but it's not "wrong."
Thanks to this website I am more prepared for the confrontation I will be having at BB&T tomorrow. I opened my accounts in Louisville, KY several years ago and never had a single incident. I have never overdrawn my account (until now in SC). BB&T holds every check I deposit including government checks. They have pulled out checks and left them sitting on the counter. They have charged overdraft fees when their holding of the deposit was the cause. Most recently, I made a deposit written by a local business. As usual, the deposit was held. Then today I pulled up my account and saw that they credited the deposit and PULLED it out again.
I am not a rich person, but I do manage my finances responsibly. These practices are RIDICULOUS and hopefully illegal. I will join any group that is putting together a class action suit. You have my input and support. I do not plan to make another deposit with BB&T just to watch them sit on MY money interest free. I have another deposit to make this week. I intend to take this post to BB&T personally as well as to my NEW bank.
Anyone interested in participating in a class action suit against BB&T please contact me.

taking money without notifying me
Last week I noticed a large withdrawal from my BB&Taccount. When I inquired about this with the bank they told me that it was recovery money from an account in 2004. When I called they referred me to another number which I called and they told me it was from an account in 2004 that I had with my son. I asked why I was not contacted in some manner (phone, letter, etc) and they said they had contaced my son in 2005. The money they took was $236.00. I am 73 years old, I unfortunately have to live on my Social Security check due to a failed investment. I have had a couple of times NSF which of course they charged me for that. If I'm guilty I am guilty but there is no excuse for them sending the check back, charging the NSF immediately and then maybe 3 or 4 days letter they send you a post card telling you about their actions. If I didn't do online banking I would have not known about the NSF or the illegal withdrawal they just made. That is half of my mortgage payment and that is automatically deducted from my account (my permission of course). If I had not known about their illegal act my mortgage payment would have been sent back. I cannot afford to lose my home, I can't work and now I either pay my electric bill and be behine on my mortgage or pay the mortgage and lose my electricity (no lights, no heat). I cannot believe they did this. My son and his wife had a problem with jobs, etc. so I co-signed for a credit card for my daughter-in-law. It ended up maxed out for over 7, 000 dollars. I took out the present mortgage to help them and also to pay the +7, 000 dollars to BB&T so they wouldn't lose their money. I did the right thing for them so needless to say I'm dumbfounded they would do such a thing. I am going to carry this complaint on with Better Business Bureau and consumer advocate groups. I have absolutely no documentation regarding this incident from BB&T, just a big surprise. Wonder which employee has my money in their pocket? I know feel that my money is no longer safe in BB&T if they can just take you money when they want without even letting you know.
They do whatever the fell like at the moment which is anything but being honest.
they feel like taking a vacation then fund it from customers accounts

I MADE A $8000 DEPOSIT ON DECEMBER 3, 2009 . BUT ON THAT DATE I HAD A CHECK COME IN AND WITHOUT THE $8000 DEPOSIT I WAS OVERDRAFT. SO THEY IGNORED MY DEPOSIT AND CHARGED ME A OVERDRAFT FEE ON DEC. 3RD AND ANOTHER OVERDRAFT FEE ON DEC. 4TH. MOST BANKS DEPEND ON POOR PEOPLE TO MAKE THEIR MONEY. THEY PAY MONEY TO RICH PEOPLE IN THE FORM OF INTEREST. I BELIEVE MOST HAVE FALLEN INTO OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE ADDICTIVE SYNDROME. I BELIEVE THIS IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CLOSING MY BB&T CHECKING ACCOUNT.
TD Bank rep offs Girls scout troop.
It’s time to return TD bank back to Canada. Today started out as a proud parent of two young girls when I brought some of their Girl Scout Cookies to sell at my office. Returning home I told my girls that I sold 4 boxes of cookies at work. They were so happy over 15 dollars they ask me to deposit the 15$ into their nonprofit checking account at TD bank in Chalfont pa. Good day so far. Looking for a deposit slip my wife told me that TD started charging the Girls of America 25$ a month fees for their account. The only started few months ago. These poor girls are working so hard for some arts and crafts. I think this wrong and TD bank should reimburse these fees. It’s Ironic that a Canadian bank charging the girls scouts of America for a small checking account. Go back to Canada.

unjust overdraft fees
BB&T has the worst overdraft policy of any bank. It is criminal to charge a customer $35.00 per transaction per overdraft occurrence. And it's not even a real transaction as shown by BB&T's online banking interface.
There are two amounts in the online interface, current balance and available balance. I have some dirty comments about the current balance, it's a device to throw the average consumer off of their actual balance. This amounts to be a petty scam by BB&T's evil empire of banks in the eastern US.
Here's my story:
I am a college student(Software Engineering and Computer Science, thank you!), I went to pay my tuition and fees, and buy books at my university. I spent $124 on tuition/fees, as I have some nice scholarships, and I spent $409 on books. I had just about $500 in my account. I thought I had track of it, and I knew with the way MOST banks work I could bail myself out if I had overdrawn with no consequences. I went over just a bit after those two purchases.
Those two transactions are still lingering in the pending section of the online interface. So that would tell my logic that they have yet to process the payment, and pay that amount to my university. Since they have yet to do so, why would they charge an overdraft fee? Or, why would they charge an overdraft fee on my last 8 transactions that are still shown as pending?
Why would they still charge an overdraft fee after I went to a branch with plenty of money to bail out the account? I was at the bank this morning paying for the overdraft fee and supplying adequate money to get the account back to normal. They stood their ground and did not let me bail the account without applying the $280.00 in overdraft fees. I do not understand this, I am a very regular and honest customer to this bank, and this is the first time anything of this nature has ever happened to me.
I fail to understand two aspects of their policies. One being that they would not let me fix my mistake and push the fees. Number two being that their online banking interface shows pending and posted transactions. It takes BB&T two business days to post a counter deposit, but it did not take them anytime at all to start hitting me with overdraft fees online.
If BB&T fixed their online banking UI to where it did not scam people by splitting things, and inspiring overdraft fees, maybe they would be likable.
I will not go back to BB&T, I will bad mouth them whenever I see their logo, I will not say positive things about them, and I sure will not trust them with money. These guys are con artists who thrive on throwing asinine fees on their customers to make that extra buck.
The representatives at the BB&T branch kept trying to reflect this back on me as a huge mistake. They urged me to keep a ledger, and I told them I did not want one with BB&T's logo--Haha.
I wish to warn others of BB&T's unethical policies, and bad customer relationships. At a local bank, if I had talked it over with the VP of the bank/branch, they would have at least taken my situation into consideration.
Final words: When you do overdraft with BB&T, they will not charge you $35.00 because your account is overdrawn. They will charge you $35.00 for each transaction that they have not processed when you have overdrawn. These are the transactions that show up as "Pending" in your online banking interface. Please be wary of them if you are a current customer, and find a way out. I strongly advise against BB&T. They might be part of the US economy problem.
I have included a picture show others where BB&T will mess you over at. The transactions in the pending section are all subject to a $35.00 overdraft fee on each transaction, this is fatal to your balance, if you slip up and make a small mistake like myself. I tried to bail myself out this morning by adding in a $100.00 deposit, but they persisted with the fees.

This bank has a deceitful online customer account interface. They have robbed me many times by charging unfair NSF fees. The online account does not show the customer what the the bank is actually going off of to determine and assess these NSF fees!
I am having the same problem. I have a transaction right now showing pending on the online interface which they are charging me an NSF fee for. I called Truist customer service line and she stated I was being charged for the fee for the pending charge. However, when I click on the NSF fee charge for an explanation of why the fee was assessed it states it was for a different charge that would not have overdrawn my account. I don’t understand why they offer an online interface to view your account when they don’t show you accurate information. We should be able to see what they say and are going off of. Because according to what I see online I should not be charge the fee. I have been robbed over and over again by Truist and their excessive over draft fees and deceitful online interface.
I have been a customer of BBT for years. I recently had money transferred out to pay a bill and normally you would expect the transaction to take 24 hours. I was told that it would take several days. So I went ahead and took out some money to pay bills, expecting that my deposit, which would be on the first of the month, would more than take care of any transfers or other checks. Suddenly my transfer went through ahead of time - which then gave them the chance to stick me with a $36 overdraft charge.
And here is the twist - I never opted in for overdraft in the first place.
How can you trust a bank like this? You can't.
I saw your comments, I fully agree. I thought it was just my fault. But, I have started making copies of the online statements / with the pending daily.
I had items in pending (Debit card items that could have been processed that day they were posted)
these items were in pending for at least 3 days. My current balance/ and my avaialble balance showed a positive balance. I did receive a check in that would have given me an overdraft..
That is one overdraft. The bank paid the check first, then charged me fees on everything that had already shown in pending.
This happens and they cannot or will not explain their mehods.
I have had other problems, now becoming to numerous to even believe. The bank representaive's state they can not offer a line itme balance, as there system is "not that sofisticated' what a stupid thing to say to a bankin customer!
My account looks just like yours. When you overdraft with them, they pay the biggest thing first so they can get more fees out of you. I had a hold put on my account by a company that was not allowed to. The hold was taken off however because of the hold, everything that was out bounced. They charged me $560.00 in FEES! Can you believe that crap. I will be closing my account with them and I would suggest everyone do the same. BB&T sucks and is the WORSE bank in VA!
worst policies in banking
We have had all of our business and personal accounts with BB&T. I don’t know what is going on, but they are a curse to anyone trying to survive in these tough economic times.
Issue One: We have a mortgage with them on a house my husband built as a model (he is a contractor). The mortgage is at 8.75% and when the bottom fell out of the housing industry, we contacted them and asked if we could refinance at a lower rate (they were around 4.25%). They said “we don’t do that for business customers”. We attempted to sell (impossible!), found a renter (which left us without a model) and held on hoping things would turn around. We went back to the bank six months ago and they agreed “to take a look at it”, asked for new tax returns, financial statements, etc. We told them we could not continue to make the payments, and talked with their collections department in North Carolina who told us to make payments of $50 per week until they made a decision. Okay – so we did that. They told us to bring the mortgage current and they would refinance; we did which they first applied to “late fees”, then applied to interest, then principal. That, of course, didn’t bring it current because of the “penalty” charges. We kept calling and asking if they had made a decision; they said “we’re looking at it and we’ll get back to you.”
Fast forward to December, 2009. We received a call from our branch manager who left a message on our telephone answering machine stating they were willing to do the refinance BUT would require we pay $25, 000 in penalties, principal and interest before they would do the refinance because it had taken so long. It TOOK SO LONG because BB&T kept stating they were "working on it". What, are they crazy? If I had $25, 000, the mortgage would be current. Yesterday we received a letter from an attorney stating the bank was foreclosing.
If they had refinanced, the rental payment would have covered the mortgage and we would not be faced with bankruptcy. My husband is in his late 60’s, has been in this business his entire life, and has never dealt with such greed and unwillingness to assist a customer.
Issue 2: My husband receives two retirement checks on the last day of the month which are wired into our account. They always show as pending funds on the last day of the month. We pay my health insurance payment with BB&T Bill Pay – the payment is $270.00. On December 31, 2009 the two checks were wire transferred as usual. However, BB&T decided to process the check for $270.00 first (there was $200 in the account) and HOLD his wire transfer until January 4, 2010. They cancelled my health insurance payment stating there were “insufficient funds”. I wrote to them and they confirmed the processed the BillPay at 7:00 instead of midnight, and didn’t process his wire transfer until the 4th of January. I checked our account activity for the prior six months and never ONCE have they held the deposit until the 4th of the following month.
Thank you for having this website – until I stumbled on it, I thought it was just me! Avoid BB&T at all costs!
Thought you might be interested in the following:
In September, 2009 BB&T Corp. decided to eliminate overdraft fees for customers who overdraw their accounts by less than $5. They also said it would not charge more than four overdraft fees a day. The changes are effective Jan. 1. In addition, BB&T also said it would provide overdraft alerts at its automated teller machines.
“Client satisfaction continues to be our top priority, ” said Donna Goodrich, a senior executive vice president for BB&T’s deposit-services unit.
“The changes we’re announcing today, in addition to tools and services we already provide, will help our clients better manage their deposit accounts.”
BB&T states it offers several methods for customers to monitor their accounts and avoid overdraft fees, including online banking, call centers, e-mail alerts, mobile banking tools and ATMs. Consumers who go beyond their monetary limit get tagged with fees that can run as much as $36 for an overdraft of just $1.
Some consumer groups call the overdraft fees the electronic equivalent of speed traps. They say that banks allow consumers to spend more than they have in their accounts so they can charge overdraft fees. Banks, for example, push the use of debit cards as a convenience to consumers and an efficient way to handle transactions. But debit cards are a problem “because most people assume they can’t spend more than the balance of their checking account, ” said Kathleen Day, a spokeswoman for the Center for Responsible Lending in Durham. In fact, they can spend more than the balance; that’s where the overdraft fees come in.
At the heart of the issue are the rapid advances of technology into everyday, and everyone’s, finances, and the inability for banks to provide, and consumers to receive, dependable real-time account information.
Until this decade, “if you didn’t have enough money, the bank wouldn’t accept it, and you wouldn’t owe anyone a fee, ” said Jean Fox, the director of financial services at the Consumer Federation of America, a consumer-advocacy group based in Washington.

Overdraff Fees
In these difficult times, where money is always a problem I encountered myself depriving me from things that might well be able to afford them but I can’t because I have to support my daily life(Bills, Rent, Food, etc) … but it CITIZENS BANK with Headquarters in Providence, RI has taken the task of charging People multiples Overdraft fees to bring checking accounts in red balance just before they get a work direct deposit (that’s what been happening to me in the last two months and Sir I can prove it!) when I say swindle I’m not been dramatic they have charge me $78.00 for $2.86 and $7.68 that’s more than 700% more! And is not only me but with many people with whom I normally see at work, train or even on social websites. There anything you can do for us? How can we not suffer this kind of bad business practices? Only two weeks I have been charged an average of $ 300!
I make a normal complain and this are there answer: "Like a Courtesy we are going to return the amount of $78.00 to your checking account and two days later I have $117.00 in overdrafts fees again! with no apparent reason.
Please help!

I went to open a checking account when i found out that there was a negative checking account through Woodforest National Bank being reported on my consumers report. I took the proper steps in Having this removed and sent in requested documents plus more. I ended up talking to one of there supervisors who tried to talk in a blaming type of tone and requested more documents. I was unable to obtain the requested documents so i called to find out what would be my next step in having this fraudulent account removed. I was put back with the same supervisor who disrespectfully told me that its Friday and she was not going to have a bad day dealing with me. So when i started to state my rights for obtaining the information she claimed to be accurate she told me she was going to hang up on me and while i continued to make reference to the FTC she rudely hung the phone up without any remorse.
I had some automatic payments to my checking account and forgot about an annual payment. My account had enough money for 1 of my auto payments and I did see it being withdrawn and had a balance. Unfortunately I had the annual bill come in that put my account in the negative. They switched the order that the bill was paid so they could charge me for both bills so I had to pay $74 overdraft instead of the $37 for the 2nd bill that came in. This is not the first time they have done this to my account. Closing this account but i think something should be done about this type of practice. How greedy do the banks have to get before someone puts a hold on them.
This bank is the worse ever! They hold any check to overdraft my account. Their tellers gave me wrong info. they told me if I deposit before 3:00pm it wont overdraft, THAT IS A LIE! I run to the bank trying to avoid the $37 fee, after I deposited my check was on hold, so they charge me the fee. The tellers wont tell you is on hold. The Fed. Regulation CC says the bank most tell you that your deposit will be on hold so you can agree to deposit or not. They never did. I closed my account after it was in zero, two minutes later they called my house to letme know that it was overdraft again! because a new fee just came. A FEE! for what? People please save your money. There is not a manager NEVER available to help.
Multiple unauthorized charges placed on a bank card. These were international purchases that incurred international charges. Do not want to explain here due to the personal nature. Please contact me so we can discuss this further and resolve this issue. Thank you.
THE BANK HAS STOLEN $915.00 FROM MY CHECKING ACCOUNT OVER A PERIOD OF 3 WEEKS, TAKING $305.00 EACH WEEK. AND THEN, THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT AND THEY HAVE NEVER AGREED TO RETURN THAT MONEY TO ME AND GIVE ME BACK MY CHECHING ACCOUNT THAT I HAVE HAD SINCE 1970 (FOR 40 YEARS). I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
We apologize for such a difficult experience. We would like to look further into your situation. If you’ll send an email with your contact information to SocialMedia@woodforest.com, we will get in touch with you.

Have a small business and Percival account. Recently got new Truist cards, accidentally used business accounts card to pat this month's bills and some small charges. My fault, made mistake used wrong card, but instead of declining charges, it just kept taking them
Result 13 overdraft fees in two days $468.00
I pleaded my case and asked why, said I wanted the card to have a limit, then decline, they said they don't do that on business accounts, they don't give you a choice to limit transactions and deline them. Pretty good racket at $36.00 a pop. Now 1500 overdrawn and no way to put limit on payouts.
The same exact thing happen to me.
Had to close my account. Lost work behind it.
Too hard to get a loan but to easy to get fees
They overdraft my account at least 1,200. I dont know how or why, I even stop everything that was overdrafts my account. But it still was being overdraft. I even went to the branch banking location on pilot house in newport news va to try to get them to put me on overdraft protection, so I could get a handle on everything, only for them to tell me I didn't qualify for overdraft protection. So it just stacked up, I left and open a different banking accout with someone else and explained to them the situation and they thought its was absurd. Right now they have a collection on me, I had been with them from 2008 to 201017 when all this mess was occurring. At one point I thought they were on some ponzi scheme, like giving out more then they could allowed to be borrowed and overdrafting certain customers to compensate their lose. Who knows, just my theory or opinion.
I had two mobile deposits at the new Truist bank I hate. The first was from a personal check approx $2k I could understand a hold for ten days on something like this. The second was from insurance company from hurricane IAN payout. Business check! Again a ten day hold?! Why? The super easy commercials says next day funds availability if you use mobile direct deposit. I'm glad I didn't need the money right away and I'm glad nothing overdrafted as well assuming funds would be available the next day if deposited be 9 pm the day prior. I want to sue Truist for miss leading with their commercials! Why not just say we need to have a hold on each check so we can be active in the banking world.
I am extremely upset since Truist took over BB&T. So many problems. You are supposed to trust a Bank with your money, Truist I can't. Since Truist took over I have had SO much fraudulent activity, and no one answers the 1800 number and every day there are new faces in my local bank who haven't been able to take care. They are understaffed. They also have posted fraudulent activity that happened after debit purchases and have charged me so many overdraft fees for purchases that I had money in my account to purchase. If I didn't have money in my account, I would not be allowed to make a purchase. Everyone that I speak to has given me a different story. I met with the manager at my local bank, Ben, who agreed this was not right, and he filed a claim. He told me I would get a credit for the fraudulent activity and all of the overdrafts. He told me within 3 days my account would be in the positive. He lied and it never happened. I wrote to the Better Business Bureau because who do I turn to? I also opened an account with a new account. I can't close my Truist account since my disability check will be deposited this month. To my surprise, I checked my Truist account and found another fraudulent activity on my account and since it is Sunday, I cannot call the Bank. It is impossible to contact their fraudulent department because they do not answer. I was told they are understaffed, many people are complaining about the same problem, overdraft fees and fraud activity.
Truist has their software set up to make you go negative for the purpose of charging you overdraft fees. Since this merger, is used to have SunTrust, I have been repeatedly charged fees because of how their system processes the posts of a transaction. I can have a posted balance that’s positive yet still have been charged overdraft fees. They also predate postings, meaning when I look at a specific transaction the transaction date and the posted date are the same. Meaning that their system is predating it to catch you negative. I have been charged hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees the last two years. To the point it go so bad I recently changed banks to Capital One where I have my credit cards at.
Yes. I’ve reported this. I’m looking for an attorney to do a class action lawsuit. I closed my bank account with them and kept Capital One. Never had a problem with SunTrust or Capital One. Prior to closing my account in called to ask if I’d have access to my bank statements if I closed my account. The representative told me yes. I closed my account and when I reported them to the BBB, the North Carolina Consumer Board and the FDIC they unmediated revoked access to my online banking.
This bank is now horrifying I have been charged 43 overdraft fees since this bank merger. I have reported Truist to the CFPB now 8-10 times and nothing ever gets resolved.
I closed my bank account, but before I did, I asked the representative, if I'd have access to my statements. They said yes. They literally locked me out of my account. I've requested my statements, and they refuse to send me my statements!
I am having the exact same problem. How do I get help?
I am having the same problem and will get a lawyer if they do not fix my account.
I opened 2 accounts with TRUIST, checking and business. Within just a few weeks my business account was hacked and someone deposited a fake $4,500 check. So it was temporarily closed for investigation. Then I was notified that BOTH of my accounts will be closed permanently. I went to my branch and was basically accused of being the perpetrator of the fraud. It was absolutely insulting and offensive and the accusation was made without proof.
The person who deposited the false check lives hundreds of miles away. I myself cannot sign into my account without a CODE VERIFICATION, but that person obviously bypassed the same. Also, my phone is recognized and registered with TRUIST, yet they allowed access via an unregistered phone. Clearly their own FIREWALL IS INADEQUATE and they have the audacity to blame a client. I have had accounts with other banks for decades and never had an issue. TRUIST is bad news. Stay away!
I am a victim(customer). Elderly and on a fixed income. 2nd time my acct has been debited with fraudulant charges. $250+-. Was told they would loan me the money while they investigated. It would be in my account in 5 business days. Meanwhile, i'm broke. Have no backup money. Have an auto-immune disease that feeds on stress. I will run out of groceries soon. I'm closing my acct and hiring a lawyer. Good bye Truist. You will not touch another penny of my money. I'm ashamed of the federal regulatory agency that governs you.
YES! I was a Suntrust customer for decades. Since they've switched to Truist, I have lost over $1000 total in overdraft fees. There is something shady/unethical about the way the choose to withdraw transactions. Some show as pending and reflected in the stated balance. Then later they are withdrawn and were not really reflected in the balance shown. I NEVER had issues like this before. I am closing my account.
If you have been charged overdraft fees they are doing a class action suit investigation. Please go to https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/investigations/overdraft-fee-class-action-lawsuit-investigation/ and fill out the form.
Can you tell me how to get help. I keep charge of my account and am supposed to have protection against overdraft fees and they just charged me 3 overdrafts when my account was in the positive.
Hi Dorothy, sorry. I’m just seeing this. You would need to get all of your bank statements together for at least the last 6 months. You can try contacting an attorney that does lawsuits. However, it is hard if you’ve closed the account. They honestly refuse to send bank statements.
I was charged excessive nsf charges for transactions that all cleared fine under BBT systems. I then withdrew about a 50 balance so both my accounts were at -0- and dropped letter in my BBT branch to immediately close accounts. Bank failed to close account. No other charges should have went thru because I changed my Direct Deposit to a new account. Some auto charges for streaming services did not get updated fast enough then Truist rekeyed into new Truist system using different dates. Item that were paid with no issues were removed and order of payments changed to create the most excessive fees they could charge. Automatic charges that come out monthly for streaming services (5-9 dollars each) all came with a 35.00 overage fee. They are charging over 400.00 in overage fees to me. Their business practices are horrific!
After the BB&T PNC merger one of my accounts was scammed and Truist froze ALL of my accounts while they investigate in case I was involved in the scam! I’ve been a BBT customer for 25 years and that meant nothing to Truist. It’s been over a month and my accounts are still frozen. The scam took place in North Carolina at an ATM. I live in Maryland and was no where near North Carolina a month ago. That did not matter to Truist. I just called to get the status of their “investigation” only to be told the affidavit I signed inside a Truist bank a month ago has never been acted on. Of course this was after sitting on hold for over an hour. There has been no investigation and once the affidavit is actually linked to my claim, the minimum investigation time is 3 months. So needless to say I will never do business with Truist again and as soon as this “investigation” is over I will be closing all of my accounts with Truist. They are horrible. A 25 year relationship gone in a matter of days!
So Truist knowingly allows scammers to deposit fraudulent checks at ATMs and then knowingly allows the scammers to immediately start withdrawing funds from the fraudulently deposited check to then realize the deposit was fraudulent. Then they freeze the accounts of the law abiding citizen they’ve done business with for 25 years! Why am I being penalized because of their inadequate quality control?
Stay away from Truist!
bank fees
BBT claims to be a hometown small bank. Well they have gotten WAY to big for their pants. They now won't remove overdraft fees even on 5.00 overdraft items which they in turn charge 35.00 per item to the customer unless you have the proper BANKING relationship with them. I.E lots of money in their back earning you 1%! They have become just as greedy as Bank of America and the big banks. How does congress allow these crooks to charge 35.00 for a pack of peanuts and a coke that overdrew your account because some merchant's software screwed up and double debited your checking account? tarp schmarp..lets give the money back to the American citizens and stipulate they use it to pay down debt to these crooks instead of throwing good money out of the door to the the bank thieves themself. Contact your senator about it.

excessive fees
Are BB&T customers aware after 2 calls to customer service within a billing cycle that they charge you $2.00 per call to speak to a customer service rep.? I got one on my statement for a 3rd call to find out why my new debit card had not arrived. I was told that one had not been ordered according to their records. Can you imagine getting charged for following up on a mistake made by the bank itself? The rep had to clear with a supervisor in order to refund the charge.
I am calling local credit unions today to compare charges. BB&T advertises that they are the favorite community bank. That is a very hard promise to live up to especially when the bank employees have attitudes that make it hard to like anything about them.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
All the banks that I know of that have a 1-800 number charge you to speak with a representative. They also have it listed in the "schedule of fees" by law. It's better to call the branch if you want to speak to a live person.
remodification nightmare with bbt
BBT has been grossly insensitive to the needs of the customers. I have been asking BBT to reduce the 2 digit interest rate on my mortgage for almost 15 months. No one will listen to me. I kept on paying because I want to protect my credit. When my job advised me that my hours will be cut In July 2009, I knew that will pose a problem with keeping up with BBT'S exorbitant interest rate. I knew I am qualified for loan modification. I went to Christy James at the Hwy 85 branch submitted ALL the paperwork required for rate reduction and loan modiification. I did not hear from her again. I called her weekly, she didn't have the decency to return my call. After three months of calling, I was able to reach Christy James. She said, I have 3 addresses on my credit report and that was a concern to her. I told her the address was my mom, my sister and myself. I went to her office with my mother who had originally giving me $27, 000 as down payment for the house 3 years ago, and my sister and myself. All three of us showed her our GA IDs to show that the addresses on my credit report are my mom whose house I used to live and my sisters. And she said BBT prefers houses to go into fore closure than to modify it. Her statement shocked me. Is this the true mindset of BBT. Will BBT use any form of excuse to be taking peples home from them. I told her that I was not willing to walk away from the $27, 000 investment on a $120, 000 home and that all I am asking for is a rate reduction. Interest rate around the country is as low as 4.5 percent, why will BBT insists on 2 digit interest rate at this time and in this hard times. Christy James said she will send this to the underwriter and she will get back with me the following week. I did not hear from her. I kept calling, calling again. Six weeks later, I was able to reach her and she said, loan modification is denied. I said, what do you want me to do, she said I dont know. In my life, I have never seen such iinsensitivity and such un professionalism. I still dont know what to do.

overdraft fees
Got slogged $245 in overdraft fees after a check from another bank was deposited!
Total purchases were under $40... Then tried to close the account numerous times and they ignored all requests. They then used all the balance of my account in fees which threw my account into a negative balance... Then to top it off they sent me a letter stating that they were going to charge me another $30 to close the account and that my details would be sent to collections... All this after I had tried sooo many times to close the account!
Anyways I stuck a letter to the worthless manager on their front door stating how I felt and that they were no better than criminals and guess what... I got slapped with a trespass order this morning for all bb&t banks... Ha ha ha!
They really don't like you telling others what they are actually like "criminals"
Anyways now they are refunding the additional fees, closing the accounts and sending me a check for the balance... I had to go through all this to get my account closed... Unbelievable... To see the notes I posted on their front door type in cathryn miller on facebook as I posted them there!

overcharged fees
I wanted to take the time to voice my concern with recent service I have recieved. After reviewing my checking account I noticed that I was charged a thirty five dollar return item fee. This was a surprise to me because I was under the impression that if for any reason the funds where not availible in checking that for a seven dollar(which is now ten dollar)fee would be charged and the money would be taken from my savings account. After reviewing both my checking and savings account I saw two previous ten dollar transaction fees charged. That I expected and gladly paid for since I did use the service. There was also enough funds in my savings account to cover all of the transactions that where made. After discovering that a bank error occured I visited a nearby branch to discuss this matter. I was told that the only person that could help me was out to lunch and I could wait about thirty minutes for him to return. I decided it would be best to return later instead of waiting and requested to leave a message for him. When I returned he was assisting another customer so I patiently waited to speak with him. Shortly after another gentleman arrived and was also waiting to speak with him. What made me so upset was that he took a moment to run to copying machine and handed me a print saying here I was able to return eight dollars. I was very insulted because clearly an error had been made and I didn't feel that it was corrected. I asked him why this had happened, and to please explain why I wasn't given a full refund. The response I was given was, " I don't know Sharon is out of the office she can explain it to you tomorrow". Now I found that hard to believe seeing that he was the manager and didn't know. What manager doesn't know? If that where true then how was he able to do the small return in the first place? This was very disturbing to me because not only was I insulted by the amount refunded but I also felt brushed off that he did not take the time to care for my needs as a customer. I sent in a message online to customer service hoping that this issue would be resolved. I have been waiting for three days now with no resolution to this issue and no response why?

This banks deposits and credits are designed to assess fees on checking accounts. When other banks process deposits the same day, BBT holds the depost in hopes of adding fees.. I have been six weeks trying to get an answer and Cindy Holder will not return my call. I have asked for the corporate phone numbers and she refuses to give me any other contact.. I guess the officers do not talk to customers. BBT(Bad Bank in Town)

customer service and charges
We opened a BB&T Student Account two years ago for my son while he is in college. We selected BB&T becuase they specifically offered an account aimed at students. It has an ATM card only, no check book.
A few days ago, he made a miscalculation of his available funds and made three transactions of between $1.08 and $3.67 which were AUTHORIZED by BB&T (as a courtesy) for which he had insufficient funds. The sum total of his overdraft was $6. BB&T charged him $140 - $35 for the $1.08 transaction, $70 for the $3.67 transaction, and 35 for the final $1.46 $2 transaction.
When we appealed to the bank asking for leniency given the small amounts and the fact that they had not rejected the transactions they were extremely clear: the charges stand - get lost. We closed all our accounts there and then.
Any potential future customer needs to understand this awful company's approach and take your business where it will be appreciated.

Just as an FYI, your bank services agreement tells you that items post Highest to Lowest. Dont like the policy? Dont sign the dotted line. I believe there was news effective July 1st that customer were heard and have changed the policy to items will post in order they are purchased. SO if you come close to OD your account and you purchase a Big Mac that cause you to OD, it would be paid, but if that mortgage payment comes out later and is rejected, dont complain. People dont like Highest to Lowest. Big Mac must be more important.
Why people waste their time (and money) with those small crappy banks?
What a freak!
Who is this idiot named "Maggie" -- she seems to be talking to herself. Maggie - do you do this when you walk down the street? Hearing voices is a serious sign of mental illness. Please get professional help and stop posting your gibberish on this site.
BBT will hold onto your smallest debit charges in a "Pending" category then move it to the "Posting" category when it fits their needs. Example: If you had make 6 -$10.00 transactions and 5 days later make a $150.00 transaction, mistakely think you had the money in your account, they will process the $150.00 charge first, then process the smaller amounts so they can charge you 6 overdraft fees versus just one. That is shading business no matter how you look at it. Their response, "Some businesses accounts process quicker then others". "I say that is crap they know it we know it and they don't care"...They are a business preying on the working class and no one regulates their practices to protect the consumer. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time on their accounts, no one is perfect, but for this company to blantantly practice business this way is criminal in my book.
Whose fault is it he overdrafted?
A student account has a ONE-TIME refund with it at BB&T. I assume he already used that and didn't learn his lesson the first time.
Are BB&T customers aware after 2 calls to customer service within a billing cycle that they charge you $2.00 per call to speak to a customer service rep.? Maybe your son can stop sucking on the teet and learn to take care of himself. He made the error. There are consequences for not understanding how a debit card works.
Deposits and fees

My husband cashes and deposits half of his check at BB&T every Wednesday, has been for a year now, today he left me the card because I'm going school shopping for kids so I knew at lunch it would be on the card, well I check balance and it's a low amount I asked him how much he deposited and he said 600$, I called again thinking I heard it wrong but no it wasn't there, it's not showing he made a deposit but he sent the pic of the slip, I've checked all over the automated system and nothing . The only thing I seen was a credit of 100$ and this has never happened before, also his payroll check banks with BB&T as well. So I really don't understand nor like thus at all it feels like money is just dissapeared
So is cash available immediately from BB&t? I put cash in to cover a check coming in that night but still got charged the overdraft. What is the policy on cash? When do I have to have cash in to cover debits?
I know this is three months late but I just wanted to email you to let you know that I read your post and wanted to email you to help you understand the process of depositing checks. When you deposit your check written from another local business that is not the issue, the issue is the check is from another bank ie first citizens, bank of america, etc... you see when BB&T gets your deposit of say $500 and $250 is cash and $250 is check from another bank the order will look like this, the $250 in cash goes in immediately and the first $100 from the check goes in that night due to federal regulation(according to federal regulation every bank must make the first $100 available that night) then anywhere from a 2-11 day hold is placed on the remaining amount, usually a 11 day hold would be for a item drawn out of the country or unusually large deposit. You might be wondering why the bank would place a hold at all on your account. You have to thank the 1000's of scammers, thief's, and fraudulent checks for that. You see when you hand any bank not just BB&T a check written for any amount of money, you are not handing that bank us currency you are merely handing them a piece of paper much like an I.O.U from a friend. BB&T nor any other bank has any idea of whether or not that check is good because they do not have access to the other banks accounts to see if they can cover the check. If they let you have access to the funds and then you spent the money and the other bank calls and says the check is no good or that account has been closed, BB&T then has to come after your for the money and ends up not getting any of it back most the time. So I say all that to say this, it is up to you the customer to either take payment in cash or to cash the check at the bank it is drawn off of to get your cash immediately seeing as no bank has anyway of knowing whether that check is good. Also sometimes at the banks own risk they will allow you to make a deposit of a check and have access immediately but this only happens when say you bring a $500 check in and you have $50, 000 in your account. I hope you ended up staying with BB&T before you found out that every bank including Bank of America, Wachovia, Wells Fargo, Fifth Third, and any other bank have the same process in place. For note I worked at BB&T for 6 years as a Relationship banker and in customer service and am currently continuing my education. I also have friends that work for ALL the above mentioned banks.

I have had that problem with US Bank. I checked my account before I went shopping and had more than enough money available (I hadn't gotten gas either). Well when I checked it a week later, my account had been charged almost 400$ in overdraft fees. It happened to me once and I got it straightened out, but the second time I called, the tellers were useless. I asked them to have someone higher up call me to straighten it out, and they never called. Every time I tried to get a hold of them, the manager wasn't in. I still don't have a clue where the balance came from that over-drafted my account.
