We joined B.J.'s at a substantial discount. We have discovered that unlike Costco, B.J.'s gas is not top tier. At checkout, both times we shopped B.J.'s during our previous annual membership, we were unable to access our accrued member benefits from our previous purchase. Both times, the cashiers could not help us. One actually seemed impatient and unwilling to help us understand why we were unable to retrieve our member benefits. We chose not to get in line and wait at Customer Service. Should we decide to reactivate our membership, we will have plenty of questions to ask.
Yes, you read it correctly. We only shopped twice in a year. We purchase more than 99% of our warehouse needs at Costco. The sole advantage of B.J.'s for us is its location. Costco is substantially further.
We hope that B.J.'s survives. The customer traffic is minimal compared to Costco. I did not mention the other club simply because we have chosen Costco over it deliberately. We hope B.J.'s survives not merely for the sake of maintaining competition in this market sector, but because we have no innate dislike for B,J,'s. We simply love Costco and its staff. The employees at all 4 locations we frequent are kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate. No exceptions. B.J.'s not quite so stellar and the other club rates an abysmal zero.
