Zenni Optical review: bad service ( 77 comments)

I purchased two pair of glasses from Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com). When I recieved them I found that one pair was good while the other pair was distorted in the right lens. I immediately called the Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) customer service and was informed that I needed to return the defective pair for inspection. I promptly returned Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) as instructed. After not receiving a response for approximately three weeks and not receiving any answers from phonecalls to Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com)customer service, I received and email stating that the glasses were not defective and I would need to pay $4.95 to have them shipped back to me or be refunded only 50% of the purchase price. I immediately Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) called customer service inquiring about the email and they said the same thing. Once I mentioned that the other pair I received was fine, Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) seemed confused and requested that I respond to the email. After responding with this information, Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com)requested that I send back my GOOD pair so that they could compare. When I asked for another alternative due to the fact that I am wearing the other pair and need them to see, Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) would not do anything and again said that I could pay $4.95 to have them shipped back to me (as is) or I could be refunded 50% of the purchase price. Needless to say, after being both patient and cordial and dealing with this situation for over a month, I informed Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) that I would be complaining about their business and would not be a customer in the future. I hope to receive my 50% refund, but I have my doubts. Basically, Zenni Optical (zennioptical.com) took approximately $25 and I received nothing in return. DON'T BUY FROM ZENNI OPTICAL! YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Wow, I live in New Zealand and have ordered about 6 pairs of glasses from zennioptical over the last 2 years. I have had absolutely no problems with the company at all, and they took only 2 weeks to arrive after ordering. Until recently it cost between NZ$500 and NZ$1000 for standard single vision glasses here, online ordering seems to have been a great way to force the frame suppliers to lower their prices. And even with the recent lowering of prices, at between NZ$20 and NZ$100 per pair after the exchange rate it is still an amazing savings.

All these ppl who do nothing but rave about Zenni just haven't used their services for long enough. I too was an avid fan and ordered many pairs over the last few years. Give them enough time AND YOU WILL GET BURNED. I paid for higher index lenses and got the standard thickness. It was very obvious as I buy the same frames and lenses all the time. When I sent back the glasses they have now dissapeared for 2 months and finally got a response back saying the lenses were correct! Clark Howard and other proponents; wise up! They may be cheap but who has time for this nonsense!? I think I'll try goggles4U next time...

I purchased four pair of glasses from this company and received them after three weeks. I wore the reading glasses for four days and noticed that they had some sort of film on them. After using the cloth they sent with the purchase, caused the glasses to scratch. I called zenni optical to complain that the glasses were scratched and ask what happened to the scratch resistant coat that I paid for and that after four days they should not scratch that easily. I was told to send them back, when I complained that I needed to wear them, I was told that that was all they could do because the glasses needed to be inspected. I returned one pair and have never heard from the again. They stiffed me for $78 dollars. I am now stuck with a pair of glasses I can't wear. The second pair again are scratched and are of no use to me. Buyer be waer, I now have to go to another home based company to get everything redone. Total cost to me was $178, thanks for nothing Zenni Optical, you suck!

I ordered a pair of glasses from zennioptical on may 31/2010~~Very nice fashionable frame~~progressive~~all for a total of $66.80~~a fantastic deal as I would of had to pay

over $500.00 regular here at any eye place~~I followed the mail tracking # which was very informative~~June 17/2010 they were held up in Vancouver at customs~~I

received them yesterday, June 28th/2010~~they came in a bubble package and plastic case~~I Love them they fit perfect and I can see great.~~I live in Alberta Canada~~

My Invoice said San Rafael California, US~~ but my tracking number came from Hong Kong~~Considering they came from such a long distance and were everything that I

hoped they would be, I was very impressed~~Yes I will order from then again~~Im very happy with their glasses. :o)))))

I have ordered 2 pairs of glasses, and 1 pair of goggles from zenni, and have had great service. My glasses all arrived within thee weeks. I incorrectly entered the rx on the goggles, and they caught it and emailed me. I was able to get my order corrected, and still got it in 3 weeks. Zenni delivers a good product at an amazing price. I will continue to use them.

All of these comments are lies. I have purchaed pver 5 pairs of glasses from zenni and I have gotten ever last pair in a timely fashion. My only complaint is that the perscription seems a bit off but other than that...Ive never had a problem with them EVER and I am cynical towards anyone who has.

I tell people to buy from them ALL OF THE TIME and none of the people I have told to buy from the site has had any complaints..

And for the person that spent $800 on 4 pairs... Your a [censor]ing liar. Their glasses arent even that expensive. Even if you buy 4 pairs of sport bifocals your still not going to spend over $200 for four pairs of eyeglasses. NOTHING ON THEIR SITE IS OVER $40!. So WTF?

ANYWHO! Ive had the last pair of glasses I bought from them about a year and a half now, Im going to buy new ones soon but from Lens crafters. i REALLY WANT RAY BANS but they dont cary that brand lol But my point is their glasses are sturdy.I bought them for $9 and I have a REALLY HIGH prescription so I need special lenses and the bill still didnt go over 25 and thats including tax and shipping. I couldnt be happier with this company. BUT the only bad thing I can say about this company is that their prescription seems to be a bit off.Watered down if you will.

Other than that, go get you a pair boo! Buy a $8 to star off to see if your like their service.

My 4 week old glasses are cute, but the nose piece already fell off, and now the "film" for scratch resistance is peeling off. NOT impressed. Too much heaedach to return, but a waste of money! WON"T BUY AGAIN. Too good to be true...

I am a state Licensed Optician in the great state of Nevada. Yes it is true that buying online glasses can save you some money. My question to all of you out there is what happens when you need an adjustment on your new eyewear? Do you send them back to the company that sold them to you? No, of course not because a good eyewear fit depends on you being there in person. What happens when your lens falls out because the screws have loosened? Or you accidentally fall asleep in them and they are now sitting crooked on your face. The truth is that when you visit your local Optician you get personal service and somebody that you can talk to if there is a problem that arises! Good luck to all you who order your eyewear online. Just remember that we are doing you a favor by adjusting your eyewear for you at no charge. Of course if you purchase your eyewear directly from us (a real physical location) free adjustments and cleanings for the life of the glasses! This is just my two cents about what a scam online glasses ordering is...with the one exception of saving a few bucks usually comes with a giant headache following right behind!

I bought a pair of $8 glasses from Zenni a year ago. When they arrived (I think it took 2.5 to 3 weeks), they sat very crookedly on my face. I emailed customer service and they offered to send me a replacement frame and a tool. I had to put the lenses from the other frames into the new frames myself, but it wasn't hard at all. The prescription is fine and the fit is fine. My only problem with them is that the lenses pop out very easily (like when I'm cleaning them).

I ordered a pair of prescription sun glasses from Zenni today. Here's hoping that I don't end up with some of the problems that others here have had. I'll update once they arrive.

I purchased two pair, recieved them within the stated two week time frame, prescription was perfect, progressive lenses oriented correctly, anti glare and anti scratch coatings performed well to this date, 3 years, ( my prescription has not changed). Titanium spring loaded frames have held up extremely well. Will order a spare set soon. RAD92@aol.com

Had the same experience with this company. My right lens was so out of focus, that my eye would hurt by the end of the day. No wonder this company makes lens so cheap. Because that is exactly what they are cheap. Shame to this company. DO NOT USE ZENNI OPTICAL.

I don't know about others but I've found Zenni Optical service to be stellar & the glasses have beengreat! I've had the best lenses I've had in a long time through Zenni. I don't have insurance & I need a prescription change usually every year so they've saved me a great deal of money. Some of the rimless glasses which normally are $200 or $300 have ear stems that are poorly made which I've given feedback about as they've broken. Ohter rimless that are hingeless, however were wonderful. I'm extremely grateful for the product & service! They've quickly & efficient rectified complications via emails.

I ordered 2 pairs of glasses from Zenni. Both prescriptions are perfect. Both pairs of glasses are nice although one is is kind of cheaply made. I was going to order one more pair and they are having a buy 2 get 1 free so I ordered 3. I order the ar coating and a tint and I've been pleased. The first order did take 3 weeks, this new order is now at over 2 weeks. I had written to them twice and both times received a polite answer. For the prices they offer, they really area bargain For 5 pairs of glasses with my prescription I paid less than $100. My one good pair that I recently purchased on sale was $260 so I am a fan of Zeni

The lenses on the glasses are all wrong. I am unable to use them. Ordered glasses from Zenni and I am still wearing them. This time, the glasses are unusable. Contacting Zenni is impossible. The phone number they provide is automated and you can only leave message, which they do not respond too.

I ordered to pairs with all the bells and whistles at around $120 each. I wore them three times over a period of 4 months and when I picked them up they were all bubbled and unusable and it was only on one lens but on one set and the other set it was on both lenses. I'd call this a defect. One pair was in the car so I can understand possibly from the heat but the other pair was in my house. I asked about why they did that and zenni gave a stupid response of :
"I am not sure whether the bubble is caused by the oleophobic caoting, and we have not heard other customer complain about that before, I just advise you not to place the glasses in the car since the heat may damage the coating"
BE AWARE THAT COATINGS WILL BUBBLE!

I have ordered from Zenni for about 6 years. I've even referred many people to Zenni. Recently, I placed an order which was not correct. I then tried to work with them closely to fix it. It was still wrong and they seemed to have little interest if it was even right or not. There are now many, many other companies to work with. I NO LONGER RECOMMEND ANYONE ORDER THRU ZENNI OPTICAL. If this is the was they treat loyal customers, just thing how bad they will treat you!

I had my glasses for 35 days, literally 5 days out of their lame '30 days' warranty and they cracked! I have been ordering Zenni's for over four years and during that period of time I have learned that their glasses are either hit or miss. Some of the glasses I have ordered have lasted for 1 year approximately, which is okay because that's when I should be replacing them anyway with a new prescription. However, there have been numerous occasions over the years where most have only lasted a few months before the frame cracks for no reason.

If a frame is very thick, you may not have problems with it at all and they may last with no problems. Other times, it may be that the hinges completely come off from the arm, glue and all. Once, they did send me the wrong prescription lenses but that was corrected.

My most recent purchase, I placed an order over a month ago and received my glasses a little over a week later. I got these super snazzy plaid glasses that looked great..until they broke. I took my glasses off to wash my face and I felt a give from the frames in my hand, when I looked the frame had completely snapped on the bottom right side! I tried emailing them and they could only tell me to order another frame and take it down to an optician to get the lenses put in. Way too much effort and trouble, not to mention money, for $21 glasses. You truly get what you pay for.

I overlooked all those broken glasses but this was the last straw. I have never had them break this quickly, and I really take care of my glasses (I am really blind without them! I can't even cross a street). True, their glasses are cheap and you can just order more and replace them, but I am way too blind to wait 2 weeks every month or so to receive new glasses. Not to mention it is asinine to keep having to replace what should be perfectly great for many, many months of extended wear. Haven't we come a long way in technology to expect more for less? I realized after looking at other eyeglass websites, that their warranty really is pathetic for eyeglasses when most places I have seen are offering a 1 year warranty. I'm not going to go back to ordering glasses from an optician, I still like the online option, but I will never go back to Zenni and I will never again recommend them to friends.

Pros:
Cheap
Convenient
Way more funky selection than locally

Cons:
Cheap quality to match price
Takes 2 weeks to receive glasses
Customer service is terrible
Very limited 30 day warranty

I was so excited to get prescription glasses at such cheap prices. A year ago, I bought one metal and two plastic framed glasses. I wore the metal pair for about a month when one of the lenses just fell out. I thought that maybe a screw had come loose but that's not the case. The lens itself is just not shaped right. Zenni offers EXACTLY a 30 day warranty and since I didn't notice it until 32 days after my purchase, too bad so sad.
The plastic frames are my sunglasses that are rarely worn and a spare pair that I've never worn. I put my sunglasses on yesterday and the frame was just split. Busted. I've worn those sunglasses maybe half a dozen times. I got into my drawer and pulled out the other plastic framed glasses that I purchased as a spare pair and guess what? The frame is split in exactly the same place that my sunglasses split and they have NEVER EVEN BEEN WORN.
My opinion of zenni optical is that if you want inexpensive glasses that you can literally throw away after not much use, then go for it. Their selection is awesome and so are the prices. Please be aware that the color you receive is often quite a bit different than what's pictured on their site. As someone who can't see without glasses, I'm going to find another place to shop.

Please beware, Zenni does not customize the segmental height of your progressive eye glasses. I have just been told this. This Seg. Ht. is an important measurement for progressive lenses. In my case the Seg. Ht of the glasses I received is too high so in order to see relatively well at long distances I have to maintain my head at an awkward tilted position resulting in neck pain.

They sent the wrong prescription and charged me for returning them. They charged an extra $10 for a different pair despite their mistake and they will take at leas two weeks to replace them. This is not the "service" I expect and I shall not be doing business with them again. I would encourage you to go to a store and save the hassle of dealing with them.
