We booked a Viator Tour for the Mini Cabot Trail Tour, St. Anns Loop, a 4 hour tour from Sydney Nova Scotia. We were told that we would be in a van. When the van arrived it already was occupied by five adults. The driver told us we would have to sit in the final 2 seats in the third row. We told the driver because of our age and agility we would not be able to access the back two seats. He then asked the two passengers in the middle seat if they would change with us. These two passengers were middle aged and very tall people. They would have been uncomfortable for 4 hours as well. Because we were not keen on travelling on this long tour in the minivan and having to watch two people that we had dislodged get into and out of the van, we did not wish to take the tour. We had mentioned our age and some infirmity in booking the tour. The van left and we called the people in Sydney and asked for a refund, which was flatly refused. We had previously used Viator in San Francisco, and had a pleasant tour. We feel we are due a refund since we paid for the tour and were unable to use the accommodations given us.

Claimed loss: $218.99 US

Desired outcome: Refund for a tour we were unable to take.

That is unfair. You disclosed your age and infirmity and were still given the back row of a full van. Send Viator one written refund request with your booking number, the tour operator’s name, and screenshots showing what you disclosed. State clearly that the tour was not accessible as described and the operator refused to accommodate you. Ask for a written decision and a case number. If they refuse, dispute the charge with your card issuer as services not rendered. Also file a complaint with the Nova Scotia consumer protection office. Keep every message and the driver’s name.
