These charlatans are taking advantage of working class individuals. Six months ago, I called USAA to make my monthly auto payment. The representative informed me that I had been paying only the bare minimum payments and I had a debt of $1,200+! I informed her that my texted statements, and balances announced by former representatives, ranged from $160 - $250.00. Once again, she claimed those were the least minimum payments, hence I had a balance of over $1,200.00. Because I could not pay the entirety, I made two separate payments; two weeks apart.
I was ready to drop USAA, at that point, and find another insurer. However, I decided to give them another chance and see how much they'd charge me for the next month.
My next statement claimed I owed a "0 balance"! Figuring this was a glitch, I contacted USAA to find out what I truly owed. The rep confirmed, it was true, I had a zero balance for the next six months. I was stunned; with numerous questions. Explaining to her, how the rep I spoke to in the previous month, insisted I needed to pay off a gigantic, accrued balance; there must be a monthly sum for January. She explained that the $1200+ payment I made, was in actuality; the bulk of six months of future payments - that the former rep erred in her explanation. All in all, that made sense, given that the next five statements indicated a "0" balance.
My current texted statement indicates a balance of $167. Okay. I went online to pay the sum, but my USAA account claims my balance is $1,002!
This [censored] I am not going through, again. I will give them a call, one more time to settle the matter, but I will find a different insurer. I don't have money to burn.
Recommendation: Do NOT become a client of USAA Auto.
A few years ago we were loyal customers of USAA believing that they were helping veterans by giving good insurance coverage at reasonable, affordable rates! We were so stupid! They raised our house insurance quite a bit one month and when I called them, the woman said it's because we live in a disaster-prone area (South Carolina). I asked her what she meant and she said that since SC is a coastal area, we were prone to hurricanes. I told her our area was so far inland that we're about 20 minutes from Georgia and we're definitely not coastal. It was an oh-well thing and she asked if there was anything else she could help me with! She didn't help me with anything. About 6 months later, it increased again. Again, I called. This time I was told (by Kat) that due to technology and USAA having to keep up with and make changes for that technology, someone has to pay and that's their customers (us)! Still, we hung in there. 3 months later, we had a huge car repair bill so I called and asked if I could make several smaller payments. I was told I could not do this since we'd been on automatic payments. WTH? He said he could stop the automatic payments (which he did) but that meant we'd have to pay the entire bill. What is the point of stopping automatic payments if I still have to pay the entire bill? Which was the problem in the first place! I told him I'd not be making any more payments to them and to consider our policies (house and 2 vehicles) cancelled. We got bills from them monthly for another 6 months until I started sending them back marked with SCAM on the front.
