The Pep Boys review: Malfunction of 4 brand new tires (gross negligence)

On Friday, November 5, 2021, I purchased 4 new tires from Pep Boys Auto #630. The tires were Kumho KU22 205/50ZR17 for a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser. It took almost four hours to have the tires installed. I had a scheduled appointment and arrived around 12:07 P.M. I did not get a call back to pick up my car until 5:32 P.M.

When I arrived, I looked at my car and noticed that the tires were dirty appearing to have grass, dirt and dust. Before paying for the bill I told Ali Mansoor, (the person in charge at the time) that the tires were dirty. He stated that they were new tires... my sister who was with me also said the tires appeared to be dirty. Ali went ahead and wiped off the tires and I went on my way.

Approximately five minutes after leaving Pep Boys the car started to wobble and shake along with making unsual sounds; like metal. I immediately stopped and called Ali Mansoor around 5:55 P.M. I told him I felt the tires were going flat and the car was violently shaking. By then, it was Pep Boys closing time and Ali said I could bring the car back in the morning or else have it towed back. I preceded to drive home because my home was not far away. While driving home down Manchester Blvd in Inglewood, the car started to shake violently as if it were an earthquake. I was in the right lane and all of a sudden the front left tire on the driver's side "flew up into the air" like a balloon thus, denting the left drivers side door and rolled away. With the car rattling and shaking I managed to drive to the side of the curb. Some pedestrians rushed to the car to make sure I was okay. It was a very traumatic experience... I called Pep Boys back but the store was closed. This was Gross Negligence to have defective tires, I could have been killed or someone injured or killed! This whole ordeal has me totally shaken up and Pep Boys is to blame! In a matter of a few minutes everything went haywire as a result of improper tires and installation.

Where the car ended was on 802 Manchester Bl, which was a dangerous location where there was a lot of traffic especially during rush hour. I called Inglewood Police and they sent the Parking Enforcement to direct the cars and for protection. The Parking Enforcement later found the tire a few blocks away. He said it appeared that the lugs were not on the tire and the tires might have been the wrong size. I waited for my Roadside Service to arrive. They arrived and unfortunately I could not get out of my driver's side due to the damage to the door. Now my car has to be repaired due to the physical damage. On Saturday, 11/07/2021 I called Ali Mansoor at Pep Boys #630 and told him about my ordeal.

I don't have any transportation and I have several appointments this week. This has to be fixed soon. On Monday, 11/08/2021, I contacted the Customer Service Department and spoke with Wellington. He documented my complaint and gave me the Case Number 796537. He also informed me that he called Pep Boys #630 and left message for the Manager to call me back. This is a real liability.
