Subway would not accept a coupon that reads buy a sub and a 32 oz. drink and get another sub of equal or lesser price free> The coupon expires 8/31/10. It doesn't say anything on the coupon about being a participating party> They said they didn't have a key on their register to accept coupon! We don't have a problem with the prices of your product as you are very reasonable priced but if there is a coupon we like to use it as you know everyone has to to save when ever they can! We still bought the subs without the drink but I don't think this fair to your loyal customers! Thank you!
A Similar thing just happened to me as well. The employee said that her boss told her to just not accept them anymore. Even though the coupon says valid through November 16th. Owners can just decide to not accept whatever coupons they want? Doesn't seem fair? Then on top of that she was not there or reachable to have her employee verify? She just lets her employees take the brunt of it with out them having any support? The employee told me her boss watches the cameras to make sure they don't accept them. I WAS a regular customer here (North County Fair mall in Escondido, CA) and someone who is a GSM in retail understands the importance of customer service and the frustration of communication that is contradicting and in this instance it I feel that she just didn't want to except a lower sale to get more money for the same purchase. There was no reasoning behind it nor was there another deal that might be comparable suggested. Well I hope that was worth the $6 since I will no longer be eating there. Along with the rest of my team who will not be eating here either. I'm held to a very high standard of customer service and I believe anyone is this industry should be as well. I do not agree with her decision to clearly make whatever rules up that she wants. They say "the customer is always right" and how in many incidents I would love to argue that saying in my everyday job, the saying is true. In the end your customers control how well you do as a store/company and your customer service will make sure you get there. Good thing there 2 other sandwhich shops on the mall. They have officially received my business instead.
I guess the only branch that accepts coupons is their moon branch. Just got a coupon from T-Mobile for free 6" chicken and got rejected at 2 stores. In both cases I decided to skip their sandwich and bought in another place as I don't like to pay scammers.
If the coupon didn't say 'at participating locations' only, or something along those lines, than it was almost certainly produced by a franchise owner that didn't know that the above line must be included in anything that includes the Subway brand name. I'd definitely call the [protected] hotline and let them know someone is distributing coupons that do not include the proper information.
We're told to accept any Subway coupons that come in so we don't alienate any customers, but as a manager I can say that I regularly remove old and unused discount codes in order to de-clutter our register because it decreases the amount of time it takes to ring someone out. I can't even recall the last time that coupon was distributed officially, it's been removed from my system for, at the absolute very least, 3 months (last time I purged old codes), probably much longer.
If the clerk didn't have the button to ring up the sale correctly for a coupon that the particular store was unaware of, there really isn't much they could have done. Coupons are required to always include that line for the sole purpose of avoiding situations such as this.
Subway restaurants are all franchises. They're not required to accept every coupon. Sorry.
