RainSoft fraud and cheating!

When my wife and I originally bought this system, we were adamant about the fact that we didn't want this account to be like a credit card. We were assured by the sales rep that it was a fixed rate and not an open-ended credit account. An open-ended credit card account is the biggest rip-off going, and we both new that based on past experiences so therefore we wanted no part of it. Unfortunately, we were both lied to and find ourselves paying this bill off by utilizing another credit card with lower interest.

Every Rainsoft dealer is separately owned and opperated, and financing is based per dealer. The main line of credit is not a revovling account, as you have described. And this is the line of credit we try to offer to most customers. However, based on situations such as income, debt/income ratio, credit scores, etc that are out of our hands, some customers are put on a revolving account with a lower monthly investment, making the system more affordable on a monthly basis. I am sorry you were not made aware of the revolving account. The distribution agency I work for has the installation department bring out the credit contract and go over everything with the homeowner before installation. I'm not sure how the distribution agency you dealt with works, but that is supposed to be standard procedure. I do want to apologize on the behalf of Rainsoft for this inconvenience to you and your family.

RainSoft high price - poor quality

Our experience with our rainsoft watersoftener has been a bad one. We paid thousands of dollars for the softener and it has been a maintenance nightmare. Every couple of years it malfunctions where it runs its brine out on to the carpet. There seems to be no warranty that applies as we are always charged for parts and labor. The latest setback has been the timer that rainsoft no longer makes parts for. Their solution is a 800.00 updated controller that costs more than entire systems purchased elsewhere. My sister and her husband were in high pressure sales of watersofteners in the 80's. They scolded me for buying rainsoft when I bought my unit in '99. They said at the time there were better softeners out there for 600.00 Just because something costs more doesnt mean its better.

I had the warantee in my hands I took it upon myself to actually READ the LIMITED LIFETIME WARANTEE. Maybe more people should actually READ. It's not that hard and it doesn't take that long.

Wouldn't anyone notice if they had a rebuilt motor? I would think that the work order would specify that this type of work was done, this is just one word against another. There are so many people out there that are super happy with their systems. Some people are just looking for something to complain about. Yes, I am implying something.

I agree--- I think there is some shady stuff going on at Rainsoft. I called Discovery Marketing (that is who Rainsoft.com told me to call for Florida) and they said I had a PAST DUE bill to cover before they would send out a repair person at $125 for the first half hour. Apparently, they rebuilt a motor last year and never told me about it! I remember calling them last year for salt delivery and they said if I bought X amount of salt that they would do a "free inspection" of my unit. Well, I left them a check for the pre-determined amount, and that was that...until now, a year later when they informed me that they had rebuilt the motor and that I still owed on it. WHAT?!?!? I never even received a bill for these unwanted repairs! The customer service person offered to take the late charges off for me...ugh. I am digusted with Rainsoft and Discovery Marketing. What a scam!

RainSoft No one there cares if tank leaks!

I came home and one of the tanks are leaking on the upper side, unable to shut it off to keep it from leaking. My wife called the "customer service" number if you can call it that. They never decided to call us back and just go home or something, because no one else answered after that. The water is running under my house as it leaks, it will not be long before I have a pond under there. Which is not going to help the kitchen drain that they cracked during installation. Then we have the coupons for groceries and other services that you have to pay to receive, or the free vacation. Tried calling the line for the free vacation in the middle of the day, must have been taking a ciesta, because no one was answering the phones for that one. Maybe they were just giving out free vacations for the one caller they picked up the phone for. I don't know. I do know that the product is not worth the money. Their soaps , they also gave a 5 year supply of soap, in which I received, which may not actually last the five years, is no where near as strong as an actual cleaner. The whole unit, which was made to sound like it was much smaller, is plastic and bulky and not built as good as it needs to be. I totally makes my back patio look awful gawdy and there is not that big of a difference in the water quality itself. I think this is some crack junk someone is out saling, otherwise they would not be trying to give away all of this "free"stuff to get you to take it. I would love it if they would just come get this thing and put it where it belongs, in the GARBAGE. Needless to say it is not worth the $8,000.00 i spent on it.

Our rep was an hour late, but apologized and stayed about 75 minutes. I Googled his company right in front of him and showed him the many complaints. He backed off and never gave us a firm price. I have a feeling we might just all survive into adulthood drinking our tap water. We took the $30 Home Depot gift card and sent him on his way.

RainSoft rep took 2-1/2 hrs. to do what on phone they said would take 1 hr. Then hard sell. Then, when we didn't buy, he said at least get in touch w/ him within 24 hrs. We took the time in between to check the internet --- RainSoft comments on internet are about 95 negative to 5 positive. So we called back and said that we couldn't make up our mind that fast, needed to do more research on various systems, and, being honest with him, gave him the results of what we found on the internet... He got mad, said a few things, and hung up on me. I called him back to let him know I would be adding my negative comments to the internet as well! Bottom Line: RainSoft came to us through running across their rep in Home Depot. They charge you approximately double for a system that you can get lots of other places, and I'm sure they split the windfall between Home Depot and the rep. They're at least double other systems of same calibre, and that's after giving you the 'discount' for buying the same day of the demo (pressure selling).

CONCLUSION: GIVE RAINSOFT (AND ANYONE ELSE HOME DEPOT SENDS YOU FOR THAT MATTER) A WIDE BERTH... DON'T TOUCH THEM!

All I've read is true. We has a system put in at our house as well as one in my daughters and son in law.
Not only do you need to watch them but if they ask you to finance this with a company they deal with DON"T.
We had ours installed 2 years ago @ 12.000.00f or both homes. Had payments set up after 2 month on auto draft. Didn't think any more about it...to make a long story short after 2 years of paying 250. a month I still owe 10, 000. Interest rate went up due to two late payments...because the date we set up for them to auto draft was on a weekend, banks closed.
Monday payment was late...Am paying this off by the end of this month...tired of wasting hard earned $ on their B...S...

Rainsoft sales people should take note of the time when coming out to a home to perform a "demonstration" (which I'm not completely sure is not full of "tricks") the sales person arrived at around 7:00pm and did not leave until around 11:30pm.

In my opinion this is rediculous, and is a waste of time for the consumer. I do however agree with another post that I saw in that the salesperson's tactic is to tire the individual which in turn doesn't allow for clear thinking.

And what about the water test, where it looks like chicken soup? does everyone's?

I honestly think my friend got suckered into buying this unit, all under the guise of an Outback gift card!

If it had been me, I honestly would have told the guy off and would have asked him to leave!

A Rain Soft rep called to set up a demo and offered a no obligation gift (family vacation). The cheesy sales person came to our house, wasted 4 hours of our time with this weird science experiment (it was so abvous that is was full of illusions). He bacame upset that we did not purchase the system and was disrespectful. He accused my husband of not caring for his family enough to make the investment...how rude! He left, after we basically begun to turn off the lights in our house (it was 10:30p) and did not offer the "free" gift. This company is a fraud...beware!

RainSoft is annoying. I got phone call from them (caller ID) for almost 10 days - each time I pick up the phone - it's quiet.

Until today, some one says "hello". They mentioned about the gift reward from HOmeDepot I signed up a while ago.

Too sick of the past experience with phone calls from f..k..ing RainSoft - it turned me off. I told them - please do not call me again.

RainSoft's site looks nice - but I won't buy thier product because of the stupid phone call they made to my homephone multiple times (per day) and it's quiet .. like an automated machine.

Overall - good company or not - I don't care. For me - they're annoying and thats' my attitude toward "Rain Soft"

Oh my gosh, Rain Soft was installed in our house and the guy that installed it left a pin whole size leak.
We discovered the leak at 10:30 at night. We had major water damage. What a nightmare.
We had our insurance co. handle it.
We had wet walls and wet carpet. Rain Soft was going to come and bring their fans in. The man from Surf Pro the water damage people said. " What did they want to do?"
The Rain soft people never called and apologized for the damage.

Our Rain Soft System has been nothing but a thorn in our side since having it installed. Top dollar for a piece of junk! Our dealer told us how wonderful it was. We do not have soft water... the unit leaks. Our last water bill was 289.00! There are only 2 of us in this house! Rain Soft SUCKS!

I am writing to warn anyone looking to invest into a Rainsoft System, which is not cheap, to beware of leaving your equipment behind if you move. I have recently moved from a home which I installed the water system and air filter system which I paid $6,000 for. I had the system installed a year and a half before I moved. The reason I did not take the system...

RainSoft rude management!

The service I have received from the local rep has been deplorable. I have asked them to reclaim the system and refund my money many times. I have contacted the Local BBB and they have forwarded my complaint and have had no response. It took the company 9 months to install the unit and I am left with out any confidence that the unit is work properly today. The local manager is rude and has not provided any relief.

Re: RainSoft Another month has gone by and still no one from Rain Soft / Discovery Marketing and Distributing, Inc., has called me back or made an appointment to install the system; nor has there been a refund of my money which, after 6 months of unsuccessful installation attempts, is all I am asking for (plus the cookware and the free under-sink filter...
