Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Patient First handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Patient First and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Patient First Bartholin Cyst drainage/Acc#4313926

I came to Richmond Hwy rute 1 in Alexandria, VA location on 09/27/2023 and explained the registrar what was my problem. I got charge $139 there. A few minutes later, I was called in to take my blood pressure and weight. The young lady asked me again what was the problem, I explained it to her too. Then, she brought me to one of the patients waiting rooms. I waited for an hour and half before I started complaining about the wait, I could see that the patient before me has left like 45 minutes ago. Then this young man came to tell me that the doctor chooses to see someone else who may take less time than me and so on. So I could had be still waiting in there today. I don't understand that part because once he finally came to the room due to the complain, he has not clue about the procedure that he need to do on me. He said they don't do such a thing there. I am so concern because not even a nurse came to check on me or ask anything. He was very dry with me of course I was complaining. Then he said he wanted to see what was the problem. If he as the doctor does not have a clue about a Bartholin cyst, can you imagine the other employees? At this point I want to clear out that bill you had sent to me because I am no paying it. I consider this discriminations against me, not even at the emergency room I had waited this long to be seeing when I am on pain. I wouldn't let someone who does not know anything about medicine to touch me so I left and requested a refund of the $139 with I got back. I had to take the pain for another day because I was too upset to go to emergency room at that time. I got in there at 5pm and let at 7:45 with the same issue. I will wait for 1 week to clear the balance if not I will seek legal help.

Desired outcome: Please clear out my balance as I was not provided with any "urgent care".

Patient First Fraudulent payments

I informed their accounting department someone was using my social security number to utilize my insurance. My insurance was charged 4 times without my approval or awareness. Their employees told me “As long as the guy, my ex bf, authenticates by provides my social they will unfortunately process any payment pending”. My social is registered under his account and they can’t tell me much further because it’s his account. The investigation they completed couldn’t be mailed to me because his address is on the account.

Desired outcome: I want to receive copies of the forms signed accepting charges and services for those visits to be provided so I can take legal action. Appointments are Feb24, Aug 8, Aug 13. There were two separate visits on Aug 13. All were done in 2023

Patient First Billed for workman's comp injury

I suffered an injury at work and was taken to Patient's First for care. Fractured to and sprained ankle as it turns out later. This was back in late feb/early march. I had four visits in total before changing facility. As soon as I got the claim number, I attempted to tell the receptionist but she said they didn't need that information. And how much I wish I took her name down then and did not listen. Later, Patient's First kept sending me bills. Ultimately, I had to call my work insurance company's claim agent to have her call PF's billing department to pass on the insurance information. The agent then called me back to let me know that information was processed. Everything was fin until once again PF sent me bills for the injury. I don't owe them a cent but now I have to spend my time and effort tracking people and information down to prove they got the insurance information.

I will never ever use Patient's First, even if I'm dying, and they're the only place available.

Desired outcome: I don't owe Patient's First a penny.

Patient First Supervisor

The supervisor on duty at 3:30 pm on 7/29 was very nasty to me and put up her middle finger at me whi h I hqve recorded. She said I was beligerent in which I apologized 3 times plus some because of my accent. I am not from here but tend to come off aggressive with no acknowledgement . I still did not put up my middle finger to her or disrespect her in any type of way. She refused to give me or the officer I cqlled that came for her information. She said to cal corporate. I can be emailed at [protected]@yahoo.com or at [protected] thank you

Desired outcome: I would like an apology as I gave her and for her to take a self control class. Working with patients is a lot and in no way or any form shoudl a nurse supervisor put a middle finger up to a patient in need

Patient First Care

I went to PF in Laurel for a physical. I believe that I was profiled or treated with bias because I am a black woman. My husband (white male) was at the same location for a physical and was treated much differently.

Elliott was scrutinizing the form that I needed to have for a Boy Scout camping event. My BP was 104/66, P 75. I have NO medical history, take no meds except seasonal OTC allergy meds and carry an epi-pen for bee stings. Elliott asked if he as supposed to take my word that I was not a diabetic or that I did not have other health issues. He wanted to do blood work and when I informed him that I had had a physical for the fire dept (no I couldn't use that physical for this form), he asked if I thought that it mattered or if there was a correlation between the fire dpt an being fit for a hike. They did not check hearing (which they did on my husband), checked 1 eye for light reaction, checked my hieight with my 1.5 in shoes on-yes this matters because there is a ht/wt ration that the form requires you use and an extra inch allows you to be 10 lbs heavier. The main issue was the extreme accusatory line of questions form Elliot and the suggestion that I was lying about my medical issues or lack thereof. My husband who is carrying 20 extra pounds, has hypertension and high cholesterol and is on meds, got NONE of this line of questioning. I believe 100% that I was profiled. Yes, many blacks suffer from diabetes, HBP and other cardiac issues. I however, DO NOT and I should not have been treated as though I was hiding important medical info. I am a medical care provider and I know how to question patients and this was not the way. Elliot was accusatory, not questioning. I have good medical knowledge and many years of experience and yet I was treated with disrespect and inconsideration. How are other patients being treated?/ I feel like I need to reach out to the community around PF to find out who else is being harmed by this poor care. The treatment here will scare away the people that need them the most. Shame, shame, shame on you. This is NOT what quality care looks like.

Desired outcome: An apology, Implicit bias training (required in Maryland for health care providers) and a Diversity, Inclusion and Sensitivity training in Health Care class.

Patient First Lab work

I sent a lab specimen (a cup full of 15” roundworms) to be tested. I evacuated the worms the previous morning and refrigerated them until I could get to Patient First to have them tested. The Lab Corps results came back negative for parasites and/or parasite eggs. Also, the previous year, I went to Patient First to test my stool for parasites/eggs and that test also came back negative. Clearly, Patient First and Lab Corps are not doing their job. I’m not paying for the latest lab results, either. Last, I’d have to get my lab results to provide the exact date, but the date provided is an approximation. Parasites are the primary cause of most (if not all) cancer, so both Patient First and Lab Corps are both engaging in willful negligence and attempted murder. Each time I visited Patient First the staff members/techs/“doctors” were apathetic, indifferent, and patronizing. I overheard one clinician tell a patient that “I am not justifying my methods to you. I’m the expert.” The patient meekly mumbled a humbled reply, while I laughed aloud and told the clinician that she had the hubris of an imbecile, which silenced her. “Doctors”, “nurses”, “medical staff” need to remember that they are in business because we write their paycheck for services rendered (and usually rendered poorly), so they are absolutely accountable to their “patients”.

Desired outcome: Totally restructuring of medical bureaucracy to include punitive consequences for criminal malfeasance.

Patient First Unwilling to provide doctors note

I recently went to patient first for a sever ankle sprain. Ankle was swollen and unable to be walked on. Doctor gave me a week of light duty from Monday-Saturday. After the allotted time my ankle was still swollen and sore to the touch. I emailed patient first to extend my time of light duty with a note and they advised I’d have to be re-evaluated first. Went back and had to wait 45 minutes for a doctor to come in, talk to me for 10 seconds, grab and twist my ankle and still send me back to work. Nurse told me it was because they can’t give me light duty past 3 days and I told her that’s a lie because I just was given a week of light duty. She told me that a primary care doctor issue and completely dismissed me sending me back to work.

Desired outcome: Doctors note

Patient First Billing issues

My account was billed as it should. I received a bill for my two children. Which was paid. I was denied services March 13, 2023 until I paid a balance which was already paid. My wife contacted thr billing department. They couldn't give a clear answer. We supplied them with receipts of payment via email. After a month of no repsone. We contact. And now are being told thr reason for thr balance was collections. Never once in the call was collections mentioned. They sent hlmy account to collections on the date the post office stamped my bill for receiving it. How does that make since. I am billed for something that happend 1 year ago. Which was paid. I never received anything from Any collection agency about my account. To be sent to collections for 22.33 is outrageous. And having a $41.31 balance for a collection I was not aware of. Not good. To be told by Elke that patient first doesn't control when mail is deliver and processed. Wait, so does that mean I can control it. Something is wrong with thr system at patient first. This is unbelievable.

Desired outcome: I want patient first to do better by patients and stop cheating people out of money. I want it to be investigated.

Patient First Patients first laurel Maryland

I went to patients first on 2/7/2023 for a pre op physical. I called first and explained that my primary care provider was available and that the pre op physical is time sensitive. I was told no problem. This isn't the first time me or my family members have received pre op physical from this location. I was told because I have a primary physical that they couldn't do the physical. I advised that I have gotten pro op physicals here before and I have had the same primary care provider. I asked to speak to the doctor and they weren't available and the nurse said call the surgery center Maybe they can do it. I told her I did when I couldn't get an appointment in time with my Doctor and they said go to patients first and that they send alot of there patients there who can't get In to see there doctors in enough time Prior to the surgery. This was very disappointing and the fact that I had no problems getting pre op physicals there prior made absolutely no sense. I can only assume that it was to close to closing and that's just not right. My name is Maurice Jeffers. My number and email 📧 is on file at patients first. Btw I have been using close to 20 years.

Patient First Derogatory comment and passing gossips.

I have been a customer since 2016 up to the present year in 2023. I'm going to report a complaint to nurse name Ashanti and I did not know her last name. Anyway, I thought I could ignore this for such a long time but it is already crossing the line. It is very unhealthy to take this unacceptable behavior. I'm expressing my voice and I demand a little respect. There is a possibility that she is going to deny it and not taking responsibility. I hope this issue will be address and be resolved. I'm a human being, I demand a little respect. Respectfully, your Mrs. Grantz.

Patient First Billing Issue

Patient First is telling me they will charge my credit card on file and refuse to resolve the matter. I had insurance on the date of service and still have the same insurance. No one will return my emails and the billing person I spoke to on 11/17, Cheryl, must not have followed through. There is no claim with my insurance and nothing has been resolved. I received another bill stating they would charge my card on file for almost $500.

Desired outcome: Just bill my insurance

Patient First Rip off

Back in April 2015. I was seen at patient first and your employee didn’t follow any steps to let me know my insurance was showing that I wasn’t enrolled and I didn’t receive a letter from Medicaid until the following week that wen I enrolled in February it wasn’t accepted. Two days later I had to go back and I was told I couldn’t been see because I wasn’t in enrolled anymore. I filled an dispute back in December 2021 and it’s not showing on my credit nor receiving any bills anymore. So how do I still have a balance? I appreciate this balance being cleared it’s 7 years later.

Desired outcome: I would appreciate some helping me with this situation

I was waiting in the waiting room and I was on the phone with another doctors office to change my appointment because I didn’t know I was gonna be sick and patient first called me to come get registered I had missed ONE call, and it was actually a previous minute. Since I was inside I walked over and she completely was rude, said she had moved on to another patient and that someone will try to call again WHENEVER they can squeeze me in! So not right she was VERY RUDE AND I FELT DISCRIMINATED BECAUSE SHE WAS COMPLETELY NICE TO THE OTHER BLACK PATIENTS BUT SINCE IM WHITE SHE WAS RUDE! And that lady knows who she is. She was wearing all white including white stockings and a Halloween mask! Very rude and repulsive!

Desired outcome: And apology!!! Cause it’s not right at all!!

Patient First Fraudulent Account

On September 14, 2022, someone used my social security number to open a $6,078 installment plan with a $195 for 60 months through patient first. The address on the account is 530 technology drive, Irvine, CA 92618. I have not ever been to Irvine, CA in my life. I did not visit patient first and did not authorize anyone to open the account in my name. I don’t know why Patient First would not have required photo ID that matches the first and last name or even the address of the person applying. It seems like all they needed was my social security number. Now my credit score is depending on some stranger to make on time payments of $195 for 60 months and the credit utilization is activity bringing my score down as I type this.

Desired outcome: Remove the loan from my credit report

Patient First Everything

I am going to keep this message brief because I have already blasted Patient First (Central Park) via the Patient Portal all morning, and I am now exhausted!

I want to report the SUBSTANDARD (UNDERSTATEMENT) care that I received after sitting 5 HOURs to be seen yesterday 9/21/2022, the SECOND appointment this week, the first being a Telemedicine call!

In a nutshell, yesterday at my actual (not telemed) appointment, the NP (Mary Pat Gronauer, FNP) failed to do her job! She shouldn't even have a job; and, I hate saying that about anyone. The doctor shouldn't either (Rober Colligan, M.D,). They OBVIOUSLY did not read my blood OR urine results or tell me the results, results that are all messed up and some seriuolsy. I did not even see a doctor yesterday. Isn't that required? I will find out. They may not care about my health, but I do! So, I always check my lab results. I am a medical person. Bad for them!

I will NEVER return to Pation First; and, I will be sending a very, very detailed messasge to the CEO (whom I just located), but I need to speak it before I explode.

I don't know about other locations but Central Park Patient First is UNDERSTAFFED and that is dangerous! I am one example. Everyone was complaining yesterday. 5 hours is ridiculous, and I see that there is no more staff there today than there was yesterday! BAD

What I need to say will also be reported to the BBB and my insurance company; and, knowing me, the AMA. Been there, done that. I don't fool around when it comes to my health. If a doctor or nurse or NP doesn't perform their job on me, that means they aren't providing adequate care for others either. I will speak for them, because who knows who else walked out of that place yesterday with the experience I had and STILL SICK OR COULD DIE IN A YEAR BECAUASE TEST RESULTS WERE NOT READ OR REPORTED TO THE PATIENT! Not everyone reviews their blood work. I DO. That's how cancer and other serious illness go missed and the patient winds up 6 feet under! I worked at MWH; and, while there, a patient died of cervical cancer because the GYN did not read the note in his chart for a year; and, after that, it was toooo late for that poor woman. The cervical cancer had alredy eaten her up. NO!

Much more to say!

Desired outcome: DO NOT BILL ME and do something about Patient First!

Patient First Misdiagnosed with the flu

On 7/29/2022 I was seen in one of the patient first. I came in with the complaint of a headache and elevated blood pressure. While I waited the right side of my body went numb and my lips and tongue also. My fiance went to the front desk and told the lady there. She got a nurse the nurse came and got me took me to a room told me they were gonna come and take my blood and on her way out said "you still have to wait your turn to see the doctor and walked out. They came and drew my blood and left me laying there for hours. My right arm, leg, and my lips and tounge went numb again. I sent my fiance out to find someone. She told the nurse again and she said there is nothing we can do until the doctor sees her. They left me laying in the room another hour before the doctor came in asked me what was going on I told her. She said well you have tested positive for the flu gave me a shot for my headache and said have a great day. I went home and I slept all Saturday the 30th. That Sunday I went to the er and they said I had suffered a stroke. And the damage was already done.

Patient First Was turned away due to lack of insurance

I went in to the patient first in Chester because I was feeling really sick and had been exposed to Covid and was wanting to receive a Covid test for work which my job told me to go to them. When I arrived and was speaking to the lady about the pre-process of getting in she asked for my insurance card and I unfortunately did not have it in the site to look it up was not working so she went to ask the nurse if they would see me and they said they would not see me unless I gave them insurance information and turned me away. I didn’t have to proceed to drive all the way back to my apartment in Richmond to get my insurance card and go to BetterMed just to find out I was positive for Covid and was running a fever and threw up as I pulled into the parking lot

Desired outcome: I would like an explanation as to why they turned me away because I’ve been there before and my mom has been there before with no insurance and has been seen and I feel like this was me being treated unfairly

Patient First Billed insurance incorrectly and almost a year later and not fixed.

Both my son and husband were seen in June and July of 2021. We use patient first for our family as our primary care doctors. When they both checked in they were never asked if patient first was their primary and under primary in the patient first system it was marked as none. Patient first billed the insurance as urgent care visit. I have called many times and have been told that it is under review and then almost a year later I was told today since they didn’t specify when they checked in that it needs to be billed primary then they can’t change that. I filed a dispute by email but I’m doubtful that I will hear anything . They just keep ignoring me because they got their money since they charged my credit card. Extremely disappointed with Patient First. We are a family of 10 and have never had any issues before these two visits.

Desired outcome: Bill my insurance correctly as a PCP visit.

Patient First Did not treat my illness

Went to Patient First for ear trouble, they made me wait 2.5 hours to tell me they could not help me and I have to go to the emergency room. Went to the emergency room to find out, it was an inner ear infection and I needed antibiotics. Now I have to pay a $100 deductible for emergency room when Patient First could have solved the entire problem. Not only did they send me to the emergency room, they had the nerve to charge my credit card on file a week later for the visit.

Desired outcome: $15.00 copayment
