Menards - Employees actions and masks

Walked in the store to get screws for metal roof. Walked past prob 20 employees that didn't say anything to me about a mask. Get to check out lady just looked at me didn't say anything for like 15 seconds then staten I can't help you. And why? I I said. She rang her little bell and just stood there the manager walked up and stood right next to me and stated she doesn't have to check you out. Not once have they said anything about a mask yet and I asked why is that. She said cuz u dont have a mask. So I said to her if your so worried about a mask how come you're standing so close to me and as I say that the cashier itches her face and nose and I said and if your so worried about a mask why u touching your face and nose after handling product that I was just holding. Of course no response manager walks away grabs a mask from diff isle and scans it for me to buy it says if you want your items put on a mask long story short menards is a joke and only reason I didn't walk out was because I had already been to home depot and they don't carry colored metal roof screws with the rubber grommet but best believe I will never shop at menards again they are rude and absolutely ridiculous.

Last night between 7:30 and 8:00 my wife and I were checking out at the check-out counter. We’re in need of carpet for a room and were looking for a selection that would match the existing carpet in our house. I’ve done lots of business with Menards in Grand Island and North Platte. We own property not only in Grand island but also in St. Paul, Loup City, Dannebrog, and Palmer. Here in Keith County, we own property in Paxton and three properties at Lake McConaughey. We’ve spent a lot of money at Menards doing facelifts, remodeling, and upkeep on these properties.

Last night at the check-out counter, my wife was pushing the cart, as I passed by her I said, “I’ll pay” and put my mask up to my face as I passed the check-out lady. I went to pay with my credit card, there was no one around me, NO ONE. One of your employees came out of nowhere and told me to put my mask on. I lifted it to my face. He commanded me to strap it to my head. I said, “I’ll just pay and be on my way”. He said, “No you won’t. It’s too late now for that” and began taking the items I had purchased out of the sack on the conveyor belt and putting them into a cart. My wife and I walked out of the store without the purchase.

This kind of oppressiveness will only end when the business begins to feel it in the pocketbook. I will not be silent about this. I’m involved in a number of groups and with farmers in the area who have concerns over this kind of heavy-handedness. I will use this experience in explaining the differing concepts of freedom and liberty as I share this story and explain to them that my business with Menards is over and encourage them to make the same decision.

I understand when I’m there I’m on private property, in a business that can make their own choices as to how they treat their customers. The forcefulness of my disobedience to your employee oozes with becoming the foundation for large corporations (like Menards) enacting draconian policies against their customers who are forced to do business with them.

It’s obvious my business is not important to you, you don’t want it, AND clearly you don’t need it. I will now do all my business with Mead Lumber or S.E. Smith and Sons Lumber in St. Paul where my business is important to them, they want it, and they clearly need it

Menards - Customer service

st cloud mn store
I stopped at the local Menards today to buy two 2' x 4' sheets of plywood.
I am disabled and can walk so far and have to rest.
I ask the front desk if they had an electric cart for disabled people.
They said yes and pointed to where they normally are parked, none were available at the time.
I waited 25 minutes in the front of the store for a cart to return.
I noticed that they have these employees wearing yellow vest that said "customer help"
So I asked the desk if they could grab me two boards.
They woman said she needs manager approval and called the manager over.
the manager point to the wheel chair and said to use that.
I point out that it had a small basket and no place to rest the boards.
She said then you can go online at home and order it then pick it up at the gate.
I asked her if she could place the order, since I did not have access at that moment.
She decided to lecture me to use the wheel chair or go online. Firmly
She has decided that she will not provide additional customer service for a $38 purchase.
I stopped her while she was giving me advice and told her I would go to Home Depot.

Home Depot was glad to help me and after telling them how I was just treated at Menards and a bit upset they helped carry to boards to my vehicle.

Once before I shopped at Home Depot and could not find something in their store, their customer service desk order it for me online to be delivered to my home. At that time I was not as disabled as I am today.

I order a few times a year from Home Depot online.
