To whom it may concern,
I brought my 2009 Toyota Highlander Sport on Sept, 11th 2026 first thing in the morning to Mavis. At 10:10AM, that day, I get a call from the manager, “Hi Rich, the parts are cheap it is the labor, the computer says 18 hours so we can not go against those hours.” He basically was telling me that he cannot deviate from the hours the computer says and it if it takes less hours Mavis’s policy does not allow him to subtract those hours from 18. I walked to the shop a little after 11:35, how do I know this because I sat at the pizza place a few blocks away at 11:30 to eat, my car was sitting on the side in their lot. I asked the manager, “you waiting for a part?” He said yes. Maybe now you are asking your self why would I keep the car there? Well, being I am a 911 survivor and it was that day I really wasn’t into the confrontation.
I came by the shop a few times they had the car in their garage. Around 6PM the shop was closed for the day and my car was on the lift for the night. Next day I came by around 9:30 the manager told me. “It is finished but we have to give the car an alignment.” I waited for them to do that. At 11:33AM I am presented the bill 18.1 hours. I took a picture of that bill and sent it to retired mechanics that I know, all agreed a bit “excessive” for the work that was done. I then started to do research on the work done and how much does it costs, attached is what I found. Then I called [protected] thinking I was calling headquarters. I spoke to a Mavis Manager, I told him the story he gave me a number to call. In that conversation he told me the computer hours are an estimate and there is no rule that you have to bill for those hours. He asked me the work I had done and I told him. He was WOWed at the price I paid and then said, “sorry it happened to you that wouldn’t happened if you came here.” After I called [protected], Clair logged my complaint and told me the regional manager Greg or Craig would call me. I could not find his contact information.
Why do I write this complaint? Before, I contact the state attorney general, social media, Nassau County’s DA’s office, 7 on your side ect. I want to see if the higher ups will make this honest and right.
Sincerely,
Richard Erdey
