My wife and I went to the La-Z-Boy gallery in Pleasanton, California, on September 4 of last year to take advantage of your Labor Day sale. It was advertised as a no interest, no down and 30% off. We were enticed by those terms.

After looking at several models, we chose one couch and an armchair that suited our needs. The salesman checked our credit and learned we were eligible for up to $4,000 credit—far more than the $2799 cost of the pieces we selected. The deal we signed up for was that we would pay no money down and pay for the pieces on credit; no interest wold accrue for 2 years if we made at least the minimum payment each month until it was all paid off. It would take about two months to construct our furniture, and we would receive the pieces in October or November. Synchrony Bank confirmed our loan and sent us a La-Z-Boy credit card.

Over the next 2 months we made payments to Synchrony of $500 and $100, each well above the monthly minimum. We learned in October that our furniture was ready, and we arranged for it to be delivered on October 25. But on the 24th we received a call from a woman in the Pleasanton office saying that we had to pay another amount of over $1,000, in cash to the store, in addition to the money paid to Synchrony Bank, before the furniture could be delivered. This additional money entirely eliminated the "sale" and is not what we agreed to.

We feel that this is bait-and-switch, a fraudulent sales tactic not legal in the state of California. We will not submit to it. To protect our good credit rating we will continue paying minimum monthly payments to Synchrony until the matter is resolved, but we will not pay another cent toward the agreement we thought we had made with La-Z-Boy, and we demand a repayment of the money we have so far paid and received nothing for. You can sell the furniture to someone else.
