To whomever at Huntington Bank who set up this mess:

The Banking system operation you set up has been a real pain in my butt over and over again. The latest difficulty has been triggered by an attempt by someone who tried to scam my accounts at Huntington Bank located in Russell’s Point, OH in June 2026. It caused me to change direct deposit of Social Security check for my spouse Marlene A. Flora to a new account number which I contacted SSA about with a Direct Deposit Enrollment Form. We talked on phone with Marlene at Logan Acres and an agent at SSA office in Springfield. Then it was hacked again with the bank changing the account number again. So I had to re-set up all five of our accounts (3 hers, 2 mine). I visited the Springfield office for this modification. They said it would take 2-3 months to get check deposited in her account.

I asked Huntington to keep accounts open for receiving direct deposit Soc. Sec. checks because I wasn’t sure when the checks would change to new accounts and which ones, since they were changed several times. Local Bank staff said okay, they would keep them open. Even though they did try to keep them open, the Bank Administration someplace or maybe electronically automatically closed it and sent me a check for the balance. So the account is closed so that it can’t receive the check. So now I am caught in a mess trying to call (takes an hour each time on “hold”), with different instructions and wait times, open meeting times over a month out, and near zero accounts because Medicaid required low balances which the Bank starts charging monthly administration fees for. The system YOU set up wrestles with itself over which regulations create impossible guidelines for me to follow.

I am aging. I can’t keep up with the latest procedures. I can’t remember what they said to do unless I write it down. I can’t recall what I did the previous time to meet their obstacles. I am inventing a new mental or physical illness from trying to cope with the SSA and banking systems. It makes we want to cash in and quit “playing” all the frustrating activities required.

I have been wrestling with this problem since June. I have been through three attempts to change direct deposits to new accounts necessitated by required procedures to protect our assets and to digitalize everything so it is easier for the human services to operate. It helps these systems maybe, but at the cost of driving the citizens crazy. So now I have to call the Springfield Office of SSA again with Molly on the phone to get authorization for me to manage her finances which I have been doing for over two years. Then I have to travel 30 minutes to a meeting in Springfield to obtain “Special Determination for Changing Direct Deposit” on November 20, the earliest open time for a meeting. Then it will take maybe weeks to get the SSA checks changed to the new bank. How are we to pay her monthly $9K bill with the limited cash in her account? It is very, very challenging to figure out. I am exhausted and constantly upset over this stuff. That may take care of itself when I can no longer maintain my own health from it.
Whoever figures this operating system, remember, YOU will be old some day, too, and will be in my situation. Good luck.
