no magazine
I subscribed for a 1 year membership ($20) because I wanted to get hgtv magazines. I did not like the digital version, because it was hard for me to read, so I subscribed to get a printed one. Never received a singe magazine! I contacted hgtv tons of times asking why there was no magazine delivered and they simply did not reply. They I sent another message and asked them to cancel my subscription and demanded my money and again they ignored me! Such a waste of money!
subscription I didn't order
Today (june 15, 2016) I received an email with a bill for $18 for an hgtv magazine subscription that I did not order. Like all the other folks who have posted, I did enter a contest that seems to have generated the subscription.
The good news is that I called the number provided by another poster [protected]. Spoke to a very pleasant woman (kate?). Gave her my birthdate & address and she was happy to cancel the subscription. She said that I might receive a bill in the mail but that I should just throw it away and keep the first magazine as a courtesy.
Yes, it wasted my time to resolve but it was easily done - thanks to this website!
I just received a bill from HGTV Magazine in that it states I owed HGTV Magazine $15.00, which I never ordered or received any magazine. I only entered the stupid "HGTV home giveaway sweepstakes". From now on, I will never enter this stupid HGTV home giveaway sweepstakes any more. Everybody must be aware of this kind of scam from HGTV.com
I did not order your hgtv mag acct #[protected] please cancel.
I did not order your hgtv mag acct # [protected] please cancel.
Thank you Robert Mudgett
This is a scam so beware. If you enter an HGTV home giveaway sweepstakes, you will automatically receive a FINAL notice for a magazine subscription you never initiated nor authorized. There are several laws violated here and there is no disclaimer anywhere on the HGTV site that allows them to send you a magazine, both online or in paper edition. They will however send you a bill for something you never received in hopes that at $15.00 or $18.00 (randomly generated amounts) that you will think "ok, it's a small enough amount."
I have filed a formal complaint with the FTC on behalf of consumers.
I have a bill for a subscription I did not order. I have tried going to the email on the invoice which takes me to a page (pay.hgtvmag.com) to subscribe for a new subscription or renew. The IT Department at my work blocked this site (pay.hgtvmag.com) as a scam. So HGTV I did not order not am I subscribing to your magazine. Sincerely, Acct [protected] per invoice received in the mail.
I was charged for an online Kindle subscription despite my refusing to subscribe after the first free 30 days.
I received a bill for 11 issues of this magazine. I never asked for the subscription. I haven't called them but I will if need be. I am pretty sure this kind of stuff doesn't help your magazines popularity. I would appreciate it if you would take me off of your "to be billed list". I haven't even received one copy of this magazine either! Please contact me by email: lbnakamoto@gmail.com.
This very same thing happened to me. I found this article via search and called the number you listed. I was told the same thing. When I entered an HGTV home giveaway sweepstakes I was inadvertently entered for subscription I didn't order. The person told me no problem, theyd cancel that right away. Today I received a bill in the mail and a June Magazine. I am livid. Obviously both these things were sent to me well after I spoke with someone in Customer Service. I guess I will have to do this all over again in the morning. This is NOT fair. I feel that I have been scammed.
serious issues re: subscription to hgtv magazine!
In september 2015, I decided to subscribe to hgtv magazine by mailing in the small postcard that's frequently included in their issues. I received a bill for $19.99 within a matter of approximately 10 days. I continued to receive "reminders" of the outstanding balance over the next three months - however, I never received any of the magazines during this timeframe! When I called their customer service department (after searching the internet to find a valid telephone number), I finally reached a representative who explained to me that she would send the first issue. I eventually received my first issue, but it was over two months old! I called again, explaining i'm not comfortable paying twenty bucks for a subscription when I never even got the magazine. I promptly called them again and canceled my "subscription" (did I ever even have one to begin with?) and asked that they no longer send me invoices for something I never received. I'm a bit surprised at the poor customer service and lackluster business practices this well-known brand is applying to their unsuspecting (potential) customers. Shame on hgtv! I expected much more. I will continue to look to the other home decor magazines for inspiration - they're much more affordable and, obviously, value me more as their customer.
I subscribed to HGTV magazine & paid by check which cleared. After 3 months of not receiving any issues I emailed them & confirmed they had my correct address. During this time I received several invoices. After three more months went by I emailed them & cancelled by subscription. I received a refund for the remaining issues but not for the 6 months that I had not received any issues. I emailed them again & demanded a full refund. HGTV magazine subscription is a scam & I would not recommend you subscribed to their magazine.
Ordered one year subscription. Did not renew. Continued to get the magazine and a bill for $34.97. I have responded twice by mail and once by email saying I did not renew nor did I care for this magazine. While typing this complaint, someone just answered my phone call. Chelsea. She said that my writing the company was never read because it is done by an imagine scanner. She politely cancelled everything and since I had called in, she proceeded to offer me a (paid) subscription to another magazine. Are you kidding? Oh, my. I would not have taken a free one! I have been trying to get OUT!
free gift subscription with renewal
Hi, I received an "offer" from hgtv magazine stating the above if I renewed my subscription now. So, the thing is my subscription ends in june of 2016 so this is a bit premature. The cost would be $24.00 for both. A subscription is $19.99 or something like that... So... Why so early and why the lie that the second subscription is "free"? I am not...
Read full review of HGTVentered sweepstakes resulted in subscription
Entered sweepstakes to win a dream home and unknowingly resulted in an automatic subscription. I have been entering these sweepstakes for years. I called [protected] and spoke to a lady name deja, who informed me that the sweepstakes I entered noted that I needed to click somewhere in order not to get the automatic subscription. This is a farce! I could understand if I had to click on something to subscribe (which I would not do); but to have to read further than entering the sweepstakes for something that I did not know was an automatic thing, is unreal. I am a big fan of hgtv, but this crosses the line.
hgtv contests rigged
Hgtv contests are rigged. Every winner is ready and waiting for the door bell to ring and then come tho the door (of their already beautiful home and obvious wealthy position in life). They never go to area codes that don't match their desire of aesthetics. The people that answer the door and their family and company are actors. Scam is hardly the word. Staged it the word, paid actors are the participants. As far as that lady that called in to win something, it would be no effort on their end to put a message to the callers that someone else had already won instead of leading people to believe that they had won so they thousands of people didn't continue to call. Even if the people were called ahead it time to set up the "surprise" win, why are they already wealthy and already living in wonderland neighborhoods? Hoax hoax hoax
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Exactly. You never see a single parent whom rented an apartment for years win a home. The winner is always a wealthy couple that owns beautiful homes or vacation homes that aren't in any need of a home.
Credit repare

never ordered the subscription
I am also a victim of this scam. I received an email containing my "payment due immediately." when I called the customer service # [protected]), which by the way, they do not provide on their website (gee, I wonder why?!?!) in which their email sent me to pay my "bill" & cancel this unwanted subscription that I never ordered, the csr said when I entered a sweepstakes on the hgtv website, I was automatically enrolled for a subscription! What a scam! I told the lady to cancel this unsolicited subscription immediately, because I would not be paying their bill of $18! Ugh! How do these people get away with pulling scams like this? It's a shame that hgtv doesn't put a stop to scams like this that result just from visiting their website & entering a stupid sweepstakes! I thought hgtv was a respectable & safe website! Wrong! I may not ever go their website again! Beware! Unbelievable!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I entered the sweepstakes and never opted to get the HGTV magazine. I spoke to someone and cancelled it and asked for and received an cancellation number. HGTV should be ashamed of themselves. I am going to reconsider watching this channel in the future.
I keep receiving a bill from you saying that I owe you $19. for a magazine that I didn't subscribe nor give as a gift for another. When I did years ago, I would pay for more than one year but you billed me the next year. You probably owe me two or three years now. Stop trying to get to pay for something I don't receive.
I didn't have time to call during the day, but I called at night [protected] to cancel anyway and HGTV magazine still wants to charge me for 1 or 2 magazines. I never wanted the magazines and never knew I would receive a bill! Now I Never want to do a sweepstakes again!
Never ordered any magazine, and also received i with a bill in the mail today! IT'S A SCAM! I think we were all re-directed to a fake sweepstake giveaway website. The first thing I noticed when I was about to enter the sweepstakes was, it was an exact sweepstake that already took place and ended a few months ago! Go here and cancel > https://w1.buysub.com/pubs/HR/HGT/ext_cancel_save.jsp?lsid=32410654042017816&vid=1&&cds_mag_code=HGT&cds_to_id=cancel
AND DO NOT SEND THESE SCAMMERS ANY MONEY!
I just got the magazine in the mail that I did not order either, now I have to call them!
Wow its funny to see these conversations tating back as far as 2015. That means this company has really been pulling the wool over some folks for a while now.
I called the 800 number [protected]) and they took me off without any arguments.
Best wishes
I also entered a sweepstake and next thing you know started to get letters of a bill for HGTV I DONOT want the magazine!
I to have NOT ordered HGTV magazine, I have tried to get a hold of them to let them know that I did NOT order this and I will NOT PAY FOR IT. There is no sense that they do NOT have a way to contact them. I tried to send an email to the email that was in one of the pages I seen, but of course it was no good. I hate being scammed. I just got an email that I ordered it. I am not going to take this crap.
I also received an invoice for 11 issues of HGTV magazine subscription that I did not order. However, I did enter the sweepstakes 2018 home giveaway. I called the 800 number given on this site thanks to other people that are being scammed by this company. The company is closed right now but I got the option to discontinue the subscription and if I get another invoice to disregard it. I never received 1 magazine from HGTV. Why did I even get an invoice in the first place. I will report this to the BBB and whomever I need and dispute it if it’s reported on my credit report. My signature is not on anything. I never ordered anything. I only entered to win the sweepstakes with no strings attached. This is a scam! Shame on HGTV for associating with such a company. I will never support HGTV again or any of their affiliates!
After I entered a sweepstakes on the HGTV website, I got a bill for subscription which I didn't order. I blocked HGTV on my email address but I continue receiving bills. I am not going to pay a bill that I didn't order. Any advice. HELP!
redbook 2009 hgtv dream home
Got a bill in the mail for $8.70 for redbook thru the 2009 hgtv dream home sweepstakes... I know better than to fall for this # but I trusted hgtv... Never again... Hgtv is a scam and so is redbook... No return phone numbers to solve issues...
i hate getting scammed
To the Folks at the Hearst Empire:
I am interested to know why paid subscribers, like myself, were not notified that there would be no April/May issue and that June/July is "scheduled to be sent "Mid May".
I bought and paid for a subscription for myself and another for my Mom. A "reasonable person" would presume a February/March issue is followed by an April/May issue.
You have our e-mail addresses. Why request our e-mail if you can't use it to inform your customers of a delay. You use it for a lot of other things.
Now, after an hour of online searching, I have read that 3 more issues are "scheduled" for 2012. (NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire -03/19/12).
So, can I expect?
1. Aug/Sept issue sent the end of July,
2. October/Nov issue sent the end of September and
3. Dec/Jan issue sent the end of November
If not, just say it is a quartly magazine and give yourselves the extra 30 days.
Annoyed in Florida
HGTV Magazine has problems, also. I sent in my payment for a subscription and kept getting nasty e-mails that I was ignoring their requests for payment. I sent in a copy of the check to them and still kept getting nasty e-mails. When I checked, it turned out that the company had already cashed the check. It appears that everyone has received the premier issue, but HGTV is not following up on their subscription requests. No further issues have come out. I know that HGTV is well known, but I am beginning to wonder about them.
My husband did the same thing. I just typed in the Billing address and searched it. I went to w1.buysub.com/pubs/HR/CLG/CLG_FAQ.jsp?lsid=... - which is Country Living magazines customer service. I punched in my husband's account number and all the info came up. Then on the left hand side of the screen it said cancel subscription and I did that. we will see what happens. Good luck.
100,000 contest is a rip off!
I am very concerned about the contest that you held recently for the home viewers of the hgtv dream home in winter park, co. As far as the $100,000 give away went,... When the announcer asked the audience to call in to give the answer to the mystery question, I along with everyone else in america was trying to get through. That is why, when I called and received a busy sign, I was not at all surprised.
But what really got my attention, is that one call that I made to your network did get through, as a matter of fact someone on the other end answered, I heard men talking in the background and then guess what?
They hung up on me!
Which sort of indicated to me that (maybe) the people answering the line were somehow manipulating the call, so even though I had the right answer, and even though my call probably got through before kenneth lowe's (I have my phone bill to prove when the call was made) I was not the right person that they wanted to win.
I sincerely hope that the contest was not rigged by some type of caller-id system. I did want everyone to know what I experienced.
heard its neal wilson a 53 year old man from Atco works at harris tea company for 35 years
soon to announce the winner of the hgtv dream home giveaway from NJ an Atco man
i do believe its not I'm waiting for them to come to my door neal wilson u gotta believe!
The reason I found these comments is because I heard about the scandals with, "Flip or Flop, Love it or List It, and some of HGTV's other shows", I love all of these shows and was hoping that I would be convinced otherwise and that I would find nothing. I really hope that the background check would be legally related, you know, like repeat Felons, Pedophiles, etc. I hardly believe the "credit check " comments. Hardly no one would qualify! Don't forget many of the so called wealthy that many of you are saying are winners have filed bankruptcy at some point in there lives. How do you'll know that some of the past winners are in a Sect. 8 home, it is possible to have a well manicured sect. 8 or rental home. Truth of the matter is HGTV reps should post their comments officially on their site to answer all of these questions. My question would be: "you all have a live contest drawing showing when the winner is announced, if there is a background check how is this possible, because the name you draw may not qualify, but you have announced it to the world and a lot of red tape(legally) would follow if this were true"
It is possible that they have already done background checks before any announcement is made. A company can do a background check in a few hours if necessary.
I entered HGTV Dream Home Giveaway sweepstakes for 3 years. I never won anything. I asked them twice by email to send me the names of winners. I never received a reply.
Wow, the same thing happened to me. In fact, I had 3 friends do the same thing. None of us got a list. I'm gonna do it again for the current contest. If we don't receive a list, I will speak with an attorney. There is a federal law called the Deceptive Mail Act where a contest promoter cannot claim that someone was a winner unless they have actually won a prize. So, by not responding to us with a list, they avoid violating this law. I think this says it all.
I agree that the contests seem rigged. There is no live drawing, and the prize money would pay the taxes and upkeep on these homes for at least 4-5 years running, so no credit check or background check should even ethically be applied. They put up a giveaway drawing, that is what it is supposed to be. The video confirmations of winners are short and removed fast once posted, so no public verification of these contests really exists. 2 of their shows are under current lawsuits for fraud, and it appears the plaintiffs are telling the truth about the fictional approach of the shows (Love it or List it, and, Kitchen Crashers). There is a huge credibility problem right now. The background check, other than identity verification, and an ability to show up an take ownership of the winnings, not by credit rating, but by actual ability to show up, is not necessary and very unethical, should be illegal by TV standards and FCC communications rules. (But, these are NBC derivative affiliates, so who's surprised here at the lack of ethics.) They could make be a believer again, showing the process live, accredited by independent auditors (not the fake auditors of Publisher's Clearing House -- there's a real PROVEN scam! -- ) and removing the intangible background check they use to discriminate against those their own advertized prize benefits would protect in the first place. For you naysayers on this thread saying its on the up-n-up, and any detractors are just disgruntled, maybe you can explain away the obvious flaws in the HGTV/DIY Networks sweepstakes programs. And be specific, your sarcasm convinces nobody you know better than they do.
I believe that the winners are notified prior to the crew showing up to notify them that they won. However, it seems rigged to me in that only people with money/or already own homes win. You won't see HGTV show up at a section 8 person's home top tell them that their lives are forever changed and they won the sweepstakes. My guess- HGTV discriminates against poor people because giving them an equal chance as anyone else in the world to win would just look bad for the network
And HGTV can easily eliminate most poorer people from winning by just checking credit. The vast majority of lower income people do not have good credit. What a country we live in. Everything for the already rich. Frankly, I fail to see how giving a prize to a low income family would reflect badly on HGTV. In fact, it would be the exact opposite if they were to smartly play it up. I imagine the problem comes in with HGTV's sponsors. All those pompous advertisers are not interested in low income people. But even if that is so, low income people are still watching HGTV shows and entering the contests.
Hmm. If it appears that some of the winners are well off, perhaps HGTV has learned from past experience that the average person can't afford to keep or maintain such pricey properties. You could blow through that $100, 00 cash prize in no time. And, after taxes, what do you really have left? For me, the pleasure is in viewing the finished product. I know better than to try to compete for a one in a millions shot at the big prize. Talk about frustration. What I'd like to hear about is what those people who have won in years past have experienced as the result of their win. Say, two or three years later. Do they still have the property, were there strings attached, were they required to sign a non-disclosure agreement? Nothing is ever really free. Unable to find any comments at any site, positive or negative, from a winner of this contest.
Articles about past winners are all over the internet. MOST winners either end up losing the homes, selling them, or taking the cash option and never taking ownership.
I do believe this is a scam I've been entering for a chance to win the HGTV Dream home for 4 yrs now and nothing. I never even seen when they do the drawing...do they even do a live drawing? Most of the winners appear to be elderly and already well off. These people who win look like they can already afford to purchase the home without the help of HGTV...doesn't seem like much of a dream to me just another case of the rich getting richer. They say they do a back ground check more like a credit check and you have to have a 900 or above lol. Thats really sad that hgtv would do this to so many hopefull people who don't even stand a chance!
I think the contests are a scam also. But there's no way they require a credit score of 900+. Can't imagine where you got that information. FICO scores range from 300 to 850. Americans with a perfect 850 FICO score amount to only 1.2%. So where are these people with a 900 score? Jeez. Be angry, but don't post bogus information.
I came here because I question the authentic nature of the dream home. It would be aweful to lure people in a scam, but I can see it. Some of you though claim you think it's a scam and have chosen winners but some of you seem to have a preference yourselves on who should win. If the contest is real, my message would be keep it legit. When you draw a name it's a miracle for that person and they should be the winner!
The one thing I have noticed is that the winners are all relatively young, I have yet to see anyone over 60 win anything, I think they pick who they want to win. It's all BS.
I have seen quite a few older people win.
just another cheap product
Hgtv has a bogus backyard giveaway contest. The catch, you have to answer a servey for numerous products, companies, then subscribe to some of them before you can proceed with the "contest" entry. One page asks for the last 4 digits of your social security number. This is not a contest. Just another cheap shot aiming to make more money from advertising.
I was watcing My Lottery Dream Home and Fixer to Fabulous - 2 of my favorite shows - and was disappointed with the additional voice commentary inserted into each show.
The additional commentary was unnecessary. In addition, the voice was irritating especially the way the way sentences were finished with rising intonation.
Thank you!
I cannot find information anywhere on your website about the home sweepstakes regarding the Hurrican Status of the home. What type of hurrican could it withstand? How much would home/hurrcane insurance cost, etc. If you could eiother provide we with that information aor direct me to a place where I can find it, it would be very hulpful for me.
I am an admit watcher of this network. But one can only take so much. I am so tired of watching the same episodes on Friday.i totally love," My lottery dream home," and David is the best. The reruns are making me change the channel every time. Please new episodes. So, I can watch my favorite show. Thanks DB
I just Writing this notes cause. I don’t thing HGTV sweepstakes allows New Yorks to win. It’s been year I been try. But I never say someone from New York win. I love HGTV , but I guess it’s only for certain ppl to win. Just saying. It’s alway the south or west winning. So why try and get your hope up. Smh. Hopefully one day it will happen
I love HGTV shows and watch almost all of them but recently, someone had the bright idea of adding one minute to their programs.
This makes it impossible to record multiple shows at once since DirecTv allows only two.
Why so greedy? Here's just one of many examples:
"Vacation House Rules"
June 17, 2023
6:00 pm to 7:01 pm
Please fix this now.
2 males showing way too much public affection. Since HGTV shows are rated for all audiences this really crosses lines and gives no warning to protect eyes of especially young people.
I watch hg over half of my tv viewing. I understand the need for new shows unfortunately tho the new show with Terek and his wife is absolutely aweful! Listening to her whine is like finger nails on a chalkboard. Please do something with her. Hopefully not to renew the show but if not make her more human or something.
never ordered this yet received magazine and bill!
Please stop the Christina shows. She is a horrible role model, and she squeaks when she talks, her decor is always the same and we are SICK of her.
I barely watch your channel anymore because seniors don’t like her. We are your biggest audience, please STOP and find someone good.
So much for family entertainment. Go woke go broke. Drag queen judge for real. Can’t watch your channel again.
