Checkout machines and staffing
A complaint about my shopping experience at the Giant in Dorsey Hall Drive, Columbia. 3/18/24. 2pm.
The self checkout machines are not functioning correctly. I bought 16 items and the machine interrupted me to wait for help 5 times. The staff on duty was overworked and surly. Complained about the workload. 1/2 the machines were down. Long lines. She was by herself. The process took at least 10 minutes longer than it should have.
There was only one lane open with a worker doing the work.
Recommendation: Shop somewhere else.

Customer service
#1: I was at self checkout, light blinked indicating issue, waited about a minute, asked a lady who came by for help (older woman/long dark brown hair/glasses). She said she was busy. So I LEFT.
#2: I wanted to ask an employee (red hair) who was putting up signs up a question but she seemed very annoyed & ignored me. I just walked away.
#3: I was at the Customer Service Desk, the girl working there was talking on her cell phone, basically ignoring me, I waited 3+ minutes & asked if she could help me & was told she was busy.
Giant apparently does not train their employees to be customer friendly!
After these 3 incidents, I will NEVER shop at Giant again, I am now a Harris Teeter Shopper!

Stock items and expired items
Covid emergency is over. This being the case, why is it that both stores in manassas are consistently out of stock of items that are staples. Recently it took over a month to et in delmonte italian green beans. Now there is no delmonte zucchini in tomato sauce and no canned carrots and now blueberries. Last week there was a problem with bananas. Or many times it is a yogurt product that is lactose free. I do not understand what is going on. I am 88 years old with a disability so I do curbside pickup, which is a blessing. I try to always do the substitutions but some items cannot be substituted because there are none. I appreciate the effort the shoppers make to please customers but their hands are tied when there is no product.
Also in the last three weeks or so, I have received products that are way out of date. I do not blame this on the shoppers because they do not have the time to check each individual item as they are shopping. This responsibility lies with the store personnel and really needs to be addressed. It is timely to have to keep running back to the store to turn in expired products to exchange for items that are in date. Somebody need to get moving.
Desired outcome: Get the shelves stiocked with viable and available goods

Poor service and extremely poor customer service
I went to my local giant on 41st street in Baltimore are code 21211. I was returning a few items..some out of date some I did not need and one product that was open. I bought the two items that were out of date way past the best buy date. Which that means they have extremely out dated products on the shelf. I did not have a receipt but considering it was only 5 items and I was already shopping I only wanted store credit and I thought it wouldn't be an issue. Well was I surely mistaken. The store manager and the CSM seen me returning my items and decided to come assist me personally. They had me wait while they searched the system for receipts because they told me I couldn't return them without one. Well since they couldn't find a receipt for everything because I shop at different giants from time to time they told me they couldn't return them. They also said they wouldn't take back my out of date products because they were out of date. But that is how I purchased them..out of date...than the manager insisted I had cleaned out my freezer and was trying to bring things back. Which is absolutely absurd. But even if I did pull and item out of my freezer why can't I return it if I purchased it from giant. I was at the desk for a total of twenty minutes while they accused me of nonsense thoughts and accusations and was only ALLOWED to return two items. I was embarrassed because every customer heard what they said to me and about me. And I had to leave with my items with no refund because they refused to take them back. I am appalled at this company and will not be bringing my business back there. The managers were unprofessional and rude and judgemental and unsympathetic about how they made me feel and how much they embarrassed me. they shouldn't be allowed to work with the public let alone be managers of such a well known company
Because they are causing giant to have a very bad reputation. Renee..store manager and Sarah CSM manager
Desired outcome: I wanted my refund of my items and to not be treated with such disrespect

Security guard interaction
Your Giant at 11604 Reisterstown rd. on 9/19/24 around 9:30-10:00am preceded to decide to band my grandson for life at all your stores. Reason he went in to buy juice got in line and paid for it, then remembered he wanted to get a drink, so he headed back over to where the coolers are with single drinks grabbed one starts heading for the checkout when he ran into a friend and started talking. Well, he forgot he had the drink in his hand and headed out the door, as he was heading out a security guard called him over and said he was stealing the drink. One of the girls who was close by heard and said she doubt he was doing it on purpose he told the guard he forgot it was in his hand and offered to pay for it right there and then. First of all, who in their right mind steals something and doesn't try to hide it as they leave the store. Anyway, the guard did not want to hear any of that and just preceded to band him for life from all Giant. With that said I would like to see the band lifted. If not, I will put a copy of this and your response on Facebook.
Desired outcome: Would like to see my grandsons name removed from the band for life at your stores. His name is Brandon Doame

None of the salmon items in my cart found their way to the final checkout stage. The order total was shown online as $160.28 but was reduced to $96.00 due to so many items being unavailable. Why? This is not the first time I have complained about this SAME problem when ordering from this SAME store.

Pharmacy services
I transferred a prescription to your pharmacy in order to utilizea manufacturer coupon. However was advised that your "coupon system" had been down for weeks at the Gaithersburg MD Bureau Drive location. I then called the Flower Hill location and was told "well we use the same system, so ours is down too". This person was rude and hung up on me. Not acceptable. Not only have I missed 2 days of my anticoagulant, I have to deal with rude pharmacy people who do not care at all! I'll just deal with Kaiser and as a nurse ensure my patients avoid your "pharmacy " also!
Claimed loss: May die without medication but to be treated rudely in addition, not acceptable.
Desired outcome: Hire individuals that care to service the community and provide real solutions not just hang up the call.

Read full review of Giant Food / Giant of MarylandDeli department: customer service. Ordered seafood and tuna food platters and received chicken salad platters
Good afternoon,
Hope all is well. Let me start off my saying when I am hosting an event, I always order from Giant the platters. Last August, I hosted a party and I ordered some platters one which was seafood salad and tuna salad and my guests raved about the seafood salad one. I recenlty moved from Arlington, VA to Glenn Dale, MD and wanted to host a Christmas gathering. I went to the Giant in Lanham Maryland and placed an order for a seafood platter/tuna salad platter and then a platter for turkey and ham sandwiches. I had the person in the deli to help me fill out the order form, and his named was Ron. I placed the order to be picked on the day of my party which was Dec 23. I sent my finance to go and pick up the order. He returned home with a platter of turkey/ham sandwiches and then 2 platters with chicken salad. It was close to the start time of my party so there was no time to take the food back. The order form had the labels of the food on them so I couldn't confirm what I had ordered, as I tried to peel off the labels but it was not coming off clean and the check marks were coming off. First off, I had ordered the seafood salad for my vegeterian guests, so there was no sandwiches for my veggie people. A couple of days later, I went back to the store and spoke to a Chris in the deli section. I explained to Chris that I received chicken salad instead of seafood salad. He qickly dismissed what I was saying and said, well you got 48 sandwiches and we had 25 orders that say so it was probably a mix up, but I can give you a $5.00 coupon. I told him it wasn't about the money but simple fact that they have NO quality control and someone got my food and I ended up with chicken salad and I didn't want chicken salad, we already had fried chicken. The presentation on both platters were terrible. He then said, I will give you a chicken becuase I feel bad that we no longer have the coupons. He said take this rotisserie chicken and tell them Chris said it was ok. When I tell you he was very rude and dismissive. I told him that peole raved about the seafood salad last year and he said, we changed our seafood twice since last year as if to state it wouldn't be as good as last year. I just wanted him to apologize and be sincere, but not to be dismissive like it was my issueand for ne to just get over it, The funny thing is my fiance ordered pretzel sandwiches from Safeway and when he got his sandwiches, they looked very professional. I will never order from this Giant again, and maynot order from Giant again period. You neef to have people who care about their job and quality control. The chicken salald looked dry and just not appealing. I wasn't going to file a complaint but then I figured you need to know. How is it my fault that someone gave us the wrong sandwiches and the response is that they had soo many orders and it was just a mixup but let me give you a chicken. We had 30 ppl at our party and everyone was aware of this incident, I was told that I should've just ordered from the Arlington, VA store like I did last year. Giant Food in Edgewater
Hello, I am writing about a negative experience that I had at GIant today in Edgewater. I buy groceries at that location every two weeks. I waited in line for 30 minutes behind one customer while the cashier tried to figure out what code to use to ring up her 50 boxes of donuts. The manager came over, and they talked about it for a while. I had a large piece of salmon that was going bad in the meantime. However, I was patiently waiting my turn. I watched as the cashier opened up a line next to me, and they invited the next person into the line. I couldn't go because my food was on the conveyor belt already. Then new cashier told the girl who was going to wait on me to call if she gets backed up. The cashier told her that she was fine. That made me more irritated because the customers waiting in line didn't seem to matter to her unlike her colleague. This the same cashier that I have every two weeks, so she knows that I'm a regular customer. I have never complained about her attitude before, but she never seems very nice. Half the time, she doesn't even greet me when I walk up. That seems rude, but I always greet her. She finally gets to me today, and she again doesn't greet me. She offers no apology for taking so long with the previous customer. I would have been happy with a hello of some sort. What does she say to me! She says do you have bags? I couldn't believe that she had the nerve to ask me that after I waited a half an hour in line for her to figure out a code to ring someone up. Then the manager could tell that I was getting upset, so she came over to ask if everything was okay. I was like it's fine, but I'm not coming back here again. I explained to her what happened, and I told her that I was a regular customer. I've been coming there for years, and I think that the manager recognized me. I never complain about anything, but I couldn't believe how rude the cashier has been to be in general and especially this day. My salmon was going bad, and no one said anything to me. I hello would have been nice or I'm sorry that you had to wait. At other stores, they do that, and I appreciate it. Apparently, Giant doesn't need my business. I realized today that my mom spends good anywhere. I could go to Safeway, Lidl's, Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Sam's Club or Graul's. I'm not forced to go to Giant in Edgewater. I also had a horrible experience with the pharmacy recently. I called for hours trying to get through to see if my prescription was ready. I even had to call the main store because no one ever answered in the pharmacy, and they still couldn't get anyone on the line. This is not good customer service, and it's unacceptable. People should be treated with decency and respect. I don't want people to kiss my butt, but they should be appropriate. I always was when I worked in customer service. Otherwise, they shouldn't be working with the public. These issues should be addressed before you lose more customers due to the overall apathy and neglectful behavior of some of your employees. Sincerely, Dawn Cutler
Desired outcome: Customer service training for current apathetic employees

Hi, This is Joy
I am filing a complaint against the self-checkout policies. Requiring customers to have up to 20 items will not stop anyone from stealing. I advised the corporate office to change the policies where people have more than 20 items to pay for at the self-checkout section of all Giant Food Stores. The only way to prevent people from stealing is to hire security guards to monitor everything.
Thank you, and have a great day.
Desired outcome: Have customers pay for more than 20 items at the self-checkout section of all stores.

The Hot Bar in the store at 5500 Silver Hill Road is terrible. They are supposed to open at 11:00 am. They never open on time, sometimes as late as 1 or 2:00.
