Economy Car Rentals – Beware – misleading insurance and no response to complaints

I booked a rental car for my holiday in Croatia through EconomyCarRentals. The booking confirmation clearly stated that the car was fully insured, including all coverage.

However, when I arrived at the local rental company, Carwiz, they refused to give me the car unless I paid an extra €331 for “additional insurance.” I showed them the confirmation from EconomyCarRentals stating that all insurance was included, but they still insisted. Standing at the counter in a foreign country at the start of my holiday, I had no choice but to pay.

I have contacted EconomyCarRentals twice with full documentation, including the original booking and the receipt for the forced charge – but they have not responded at all.

After 20+ years of renting cars around the world, I have never experienced such a misleading and dishonest situation. EconomyCarRentals’ advertising does not match the reality, and they do not stand behind their promises.
