Hello I’m a professional instacart shopper, and on four or five different orders I’ve taken at the 1540 New Brighten store I have been discriminated against because of color, and hair and ask for ID to purchase cooking wine on one occasion and the next time a different cashier tells me I don’t need one. I’ve had a cashier to tell a customer and a coworker that she doesn’t ring up black instacart workers orders till she prove it legit, I informed a manager her name was Cheryl, she said that oh never mind her she’s just having a bad day. So on another occasion to avoid getting harassed I went thru self check out, The manager Cheryl runs over to me and says You can’t do that we have to keep up with all instacart orders I said but I have done it when you weren’t here and nobody says anything. I’m totally confused now, I started back going threw regular lines. I’ve had a customer to walk up to me and say why are these people following you and your working so hard? I noticed a while before she said it but I just kept working and ignored them but when I got home I cried like a baby because I don’t deserve to get treated like an criminal and all I do is coming and do my same routine every time. Produce first then meat and everything else. Last month I ask another lady manager what is it about me that make you guys follow me and assume I’m a thief she said that they were not corporate they are a independent Cub Foods which still gives them no right to talk about my hair and my skin color that’s disrespectful and discriminatory. I will be contacting an attorney because it just not right. Thank you for listening
I believe you. I've gotten treated like that, also, at Plymouth Foods Liquor Dept. They always profile me. All they see is color, even though I'm a doctor and I could buy out that store, if I wanted to. I'm sure there are plenty others with the same complaint. I've observed them following and double-checking the IDs of other people of color. We could probably get a class action suit. Cub employees are extremely unhappy and are very poorly trained on customer service and diversity. You can see it on their faces and their actions. I know that I will not be shopping there, anymore, after my experience, there, on 12/26/23. (Trader Joe's, Hyvee and Whole Foods have better selections, anyway.)
