Spirit Airlines poor customer service and incorrect info provided

Scheduled on flight 713, (4/14/16) scheduled to depart IAH @5:45pm. I received 18 emails telling me the flight was delayed at various times. The last email stated flight was delayed till 10:58 pm. Arrived at the gate at 10:10. There was issue and the TSA was there to remove someone from the flight. We were blocked from getting on and then they closed the door and would not let us board. Then to add insult to injury no room and we have to wait 2 day to get the next flight! Total bull! So this 'cheap' flight is costing me 2 nights in a hotel, meals and I hope I don't get fired!

Spirit Airlines airlines

I had a flight out of tampa on january 24, 2016. I received an email on january 23rd with an advisory to call the airlines due to weather. This call was made at 11:00 p. M. On january 23rd. I was informed the flight was cancelled. They were not able to put me on another flight until wednesday, january 27. I checked the website early sunday morning and the flight for january 24 was showing on time. I called the airlines at 6:00 a. M. On january 24th and asked to be put on that flight. They said the flight was full. How is this possible. It is cancelled the night before and by 6:00 a. M. The flight is full.

Very dissatisfied with the service through spirit. They don't care about the passengers.

Spirit Airlines the whole thing

After my current experience with Spirit Airlines, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The seem to make their money by ripping off the flying public. After I made the reservation, I discovered to charges on the final bill that I did not owe. They tried to bill me 35 dollars for a carry on when I said no carry on at the reservation screen. The also tried to bill me $50 dollars for a seat up grade that specifically said $32 on the website. I called them on it and the did refund the extra $18 for the seat change but only wanted to issue a voucher for the carry on fee for a carry on that I wasn't carrying on. Then I discovered that the flight that I thought departed at 9:45AM actually departed at 9:45PM. When I tried to cancel the flight, they wanted to charge me a $110 dollar cancellation fee. Bunch of crooks running this airline. Never, ever fly on them.

Spirit Airlines flight cancellation/ poor customer service

If anyone flies Spirit Airlines, be warned that if your flight is cancelled they do not care nor is it their problem. I had a flight cancel 12/14/2015 due to weather. I do not know what weather they were referring to. I saw no bad weather conditions in the country that date. The weather conditions from where I was and my final destination was both great. Despite asking multiple times, they would not reveal where the plane was coming from and the weather. If you use weather as an excuse, then they have no obligation to help you with hotel or basically do a thing for you. They cancel a flight that is fully booked and do nothing to make sure you get home. A whole flight is trying to get on seats for the 2 flights out the next day and it booked up. In fact, they over booked. They do not care if it takes 2-3 days to get home. They offer you to go on the next available flight, which again, may not be the next day. Or you can get a half your money refunded. I landed up having to spend extra money on hotel, food and had to book on another airline to get home. It landed up costing me atleast $200 out of pocket. I was promised a different amount refunded on the phone and once home it was decreased. Despite multiple complaints, they refused to give me the extra $60 they promised me. They do not even offer you airline miles! Nothing! I complained to the BBB and they did not even respond. I have never had a company not respond to a BBB complaint. They honestly do not care about their customers. They figure their lower rates will keep people coming given if you are nickel and dimed. So if you fly them, have a plan B if your flight cancels.

PS. You should always have a plan B on any travel, and weather cancellations happen with every mode of travel and with every airline, bus, or train.

Due to the unusually warm weather across the country in December, many severe thunderstorms caused tornadoes in unlikely places. There were tornadoes down here in Southwest Florida recently too, and we do not get tornadoes. Weather in California or New York can impact Florida flight travel. When a flight is cancelled for weather, it does not have to be local weather. When a flight is cancelled, you are booked on the next available flight. Remember a full plane has to be reseated on another plane, that also may be full. They can not magically enlarge a plane. Sometimes, you have to wait, and if you are nice, they will book you on another airline once travel is back up. But only if you are nice about it.

Spirit Airlines flight cancellation

My wife had a scheduled departure flight from Santo Domingo on January 15th, and the flight was cancelled due to bad weather in South Florida. If that wasn't bad enough, Spirit had a plane full of customers that now didn't have a flight or way out of the Dominican Republic, and Spirit wasn't very clear on how they would resolve this issue. After being stranded at the airport for several hours, they were told they could ask for a refund, or cancel the trip, but Spirit did not automatically schedule their flight. I called Spirit from Miami the same evening, and was told the next flight would be Saturday 23 January, a full week after the original flight. My question is why would Spirit cancel a flight, and not schedule continuing transportation to their destination. I spoke with customer service, and they told me our only options were to take the later flight, get the refund which would take up to 7 days, or get Spirit credit for another flight. This was the most ridiculous logic and poor customer service I have ever heard of. Spirit is officially the absolute worse airline I have ever had the displeasure to use.

Happens with every airline during bad weather. It is not that they do not care. It is that they cannot magically make the weather better or make another plane appear from the sky. Personally I would rather my plane not fall out of the sky due to a bad storm.

I had the exact same situation happen when they cancelled my flight home from New York City. They treated it like it wa snot their problem. They di dnot careif it took days for me to get home. You have a fully booked flight cancelled and nothing is done to see you get home. They even lied to me about how much my refund would be. I reported them to the BBB after several complaint emails, and they did not even respond to the BBB.

Spirit Airlines airline tickets

In July 2015 I booked a vacation on cheap carribean.com for a 7 night stay in cancun at an all inclusive resort and unfortunately picked spirit airlines as the air carrier. In october 2015 my family found out that my mother has terminal cancer and I am a primary care giver. I won't be able to take this vacation until November 2016. I had to cancel the vacation. cheap carribean took pity on me. I tried explaining this to spirit airlines. I found out that when canceling airline tickets that they charge approximately 130 dollar per person cancellation fees and that if any airfare credit if left over it expires 60 days after cancellation. I cancelled on 28 November 2015. I have a credit left over of 193.76 that expires on 29 January 2016. My reservation number is B9M2WW. I have been begging spirit airlines to please extend the expiration date on this airfare credit until their flights for november 2016 open up and they won't make any exceptions even under the current situation I am facing. They can't even tell me when the flights for november 2016 will open up. Can anyone help me with this?

Spirit Airlines lost luggage

So i flew from Atlanta back home to Ft. Lauderdale on Oct. 12th, 2015. My luggage never came back. I immediately filed a claim with Spirit in their office in the airport. The guy working there thought that it could be delayed and possibly be on the next flight which came in a few hours later and that i would've have the bag that day. Well that didn't happen. I had to fill out the claim forms that are on their website and write down everything i think was in the bag (and ofcorse i overpacked, who doesn't!). I had to go to the bank and get the form notorized like it says to do and then i mailed it. About 2 weeks later I got a call from someone who works at Southwest from the ATL airport and somehow she had my bag. She said the handle was broken on my bag and the destination tag fell off. She said what airline were you flying and I told her Spirit. 2 days later someone from Spirit called and had the nerve to ask if I would drive to the airport (about 20 miles from my house) to pick up the bag, I declined and so someone would deliver it to my house. I finally got my bag with all my stuff in it. I followed up and wrote a complaint on Spirit's website. Someone finally wrote me back on 11/11/15. Stated: We received your claim requesting compensation for cosmetics and a hair straightener, unfortunately, these items are not covered under our Contract of Carriage, so I am unable to issue compensation as requested (even though I had to go out and buy these items because i didn't have for 2 weeks and included the reciepts when I mailed everything) And only issued me a $25.00 voucher...LOL! I should be compensated for my luggage that was broken (which is $40), reimbursed the bag, and atleast a free flight and all they can offer me is $25?!

Spirit Airlines damaged luggage and poor service

We arrived in Detroit, MI from Las Vegas, NV on Sunday, November 7, 2015 and had to wait almost an hour and a half for our luggage because they didn't have enough people working to unload the planes! We had spent almost all day in airports and on the plane, so when we got our luggage finally, we left. Two hour drive home and didn't see the damage, a big crack until the next day. TOO LATE! Only a FOUR hour window to file a complaint about it. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have only gotten to use this piece of luggage twice, once in July and now and it is ruined. This is only the second time is has been used and it looks as though it was dropped on something sharp. This airline and the people working there don't care at all about you and I have tried to talk to them and they just say it is past the four hours. I just want my luggage fixed or replaced and no one will do anything. Date: 11/1/15, Confirmation #FCW63K. I would like my luggage replaced or repaired. I have photos of the damage and I have tried unsuccessfully to contact the airport baggage in Detroit and they recommended filing a complaint with the CEO. I spoke with Amanda from Spirit Customer Service and gotten no where. Please help.

Spirit Airlines travel - terrible!

Never fly this airline! Horrible! They lure you with cheap fares and then charge a fee for EVERYTHING! Even to just have a decent seat an adult can reasonably sit in! So its no deal and you end up paying the same amount as another airline. Horrible customer service. Rude staff. And unfortunately, they JUST DONT CARE whether you are upset or not! Its like they are taught to be mean to customers. Luggage you ask? Of course they LOST THE LUGGAGE! Then attendant said I will do you a favor and let you buy a few reasonable price things to go to your event tonight. A favor? SMH. I flew 8 family members to Chicago on Spirit. Never again. They were all so upset when they arrived it could have spoiled our event. Same thing happened on the way back! Such incompetence. Such poor systems. Such horrible customer service. Save yourself some trouble. Stay away.

Spirit Airlines had to pay luggage fee twice

I booked the following one-way flights with Spirit for 2 persons via Bravofly:
08-05-2015 ~ €220.82 ~ 20:45-21:55 ~ NK369 Baltimore – Chicago
08-06-2015 ~ €275.66 ~ 18:10-22:11 ~ NK426 Chicago – Lauderdale
08-07-2015 ~ €168.28 ~ 20:18-21:19 ~ NK676 Lauderdale – Orlando

For reasons unknown, I couldn’t log in to my hotmail account to print the E-tickets. I still can’t access my hotmail account properly. I can’t open certain e-mails and I can’t download files (PDF, Word, etc.) attach to certain emails, either.

This, however, wasn’t a problem, because I was never asked to show the E-tickets. Unfortunately, the lady who had to check us in on the flight Lauderdale – Orlando claimed that I had only paid for one luggage for that flight. She wanted me to pay $52 for the other bag.

I kept telling her that I already paid and she kept saying that mistakes are made when bookings are made through a third party. Then she talked to her manager and I still had to pay $42.

So now that I’m back from vacation, I sent Spirit the following e-mail:

Hi,
For reasons unknown, I couldn’t log in to my email account to print the E-tickets. I still can’t access my [protected]@hotmail.com account properly. However, I was never asked to show the E-tickets. On the flight Lauderdale–Orlando [protected], 20:18-21:19, NK676), the lady claimed that I only paid for one bag and wanted me to pay $52 for the other. She also kept saying that mistakes are made when bookings are made through a third party. Then she talked to her manager and I still had to pay $42.
I made screenshots of the E-tickets and the Visa bill. I hope Spirit repays me the $42.

This is Spirit’s reply to my complaint:

Hi XXXXX,
Please know, all our baggage charges are one way; per passenger; per trip. I see that
you've paid for Salome bag only online $42. Our agents collected $32 for your baggage at the airport. No additional charge was collected for your baggage. I'm so sorry for any misunderstanding.
Thank you for choosing Spirit. Have a nice day.
Best,
Bisson
Spirit Support

I made screenshots of the E-tickets and the Visa bill, because I can’t download those files and send them to Spirit. On the screenshot you can clearly see that I paid for 2 luggage (1 passenger A and 1 passenger B) for each one-way flight. I never booked a round-trip. Also, you can see on the Visa bill that I paid USD 42 or €39, 23 at the airport, not USD 32.

So I don’t understand why Spirit is saying that I paid $32 etc. I paid for the luggage in advance because it’s cheaper that way. But I had to pay $42 again at the airport because Hotmail had technical problems (I couldn’t print my E-thickets) and because either Bravofly or Spirit made a mistake.

It’s only fair that I’m reimbursed the extra $42 I paid at the airport, because you can see on the screenshot of the E-thickets that I paid for 2 luggage when I booked the flight. I'm sure Spirit can see in their system that we had no additional bags to pay for, either. And on the Visa bill you can see that I paid $42 at the airport, not $32.

Regards,

Jennely

Spirit Airlines overbooking scam

Early on 8/10/15 I got an email informing me that 756 from SJO (Costa Rica)to FLL was delayed from 12:30 to 2:52. So, I arrived at SJO at 12:50 and found an angry group of about 20 customers, all who had been bumped bc we weren't there two hours before the ORIGINAL flight time. Agents were incredibly rude and seemed to make a joke of it - needless to say there were no apologies that I heard to anyone. They did offer to get us back to the US TWO days later! Agents refused to offer any compensation or help book, even at our expense, on another airline. It is clear that Spirit's way of handling overbooking is to delay the flight, knowing enough will adjust according to their delay email and be "late" - thereby relieving them of the need to pay compensation. What a scam this airline is.

Spirit Airlines the cost of a delayed departure

Flight #756 from SJO (San Jose, Costa Rica) to Ft. Lauderdale was 24 minutes late departing. It was supposed to leave at 12.30 pm, instead it took off at 12.54 p.m. Enough time for my daughter to miss her connecting flight 619 to Houston. When the reservation was made, we did not choose this flight plan, it is Spirit Airlines that offers to its clients. So, the end result, make a hotel reservation for my 19 yr. old daughter at a Ramada Inn close to the airport, costing an additional $86 dollars. Spirit Airlines does not offer to pay for your hotel overnight, it only offers information where you can choose to stay. So if you are considering Spirit Airlines for its low price, think again. It might be better to book direct flights that cost a bit more but get you to your destination without extra expenses -- hotel and extra meals. Our other option: to sit at the airport for the night an wait for a flight next morning. I do not know of happy campers on this one!

Wow, YOU were lucky. I had the same flight booked for 8/10/15 and it was delayed from 12:30 until 2:52, and customers received the email early that morning. When I showed up at 12:50, I and 20 others learned we were bumped bc we hadn't gotten there two hours before the ORIGINAL flight time, and we couldn't be flown to FLL for two days!

Spirit Airlines flight canceled

Congratulations for my worst experience ever Spirit Airlines.I bought a flight ticket 2 months ago to Las Vegas.

My brother and I were supposed to meet there. He is coming from Brazil today to visit me here, but because you canceled my flight and just gave the option for tomorrow after 24h of delay. He's going to be alone there. I haven't contacted him yet because he is traveling, and now Spirit?

Why can't you just put me in another flight from another company? 24 hours of delay? REALLY? and about a car that I rented?

Who is going to pay the new fees because I'll be there after 24 hours?

WHO?It was my first and last bussiness with you guys!

Spirit Airlines cancellation

Booked a trip by mistake thru Travelocity. I called and explained what happened and Travelocity promptly cancelled trip for me. Told me to call Spirit about the one way portion of the trip. Called the very next day and talked to a rude agent. Was told there would be no refund or credits. Asked for a supervisor and was told they would definitely call me back. Still no phone call! They could learn a lot from Southwest Airlines! I have never been on one of their flights, and certainly never will!

If you call right after booking they would have helped... What you did was wait until the next day and it was a Discount from Travelocity. Because it was a discounted price, they advertise that it is not refundable.
The agent was probably not Rude but was just following the rules.

Spirit Airlines refund for flight change

Letter I wrote to spirit airlines for my son. Their response was no refund. I find this appalling.
Y daughter-in-law has had to travel to the mayo clinic in rochester, minnesota since march 2014 for a clinical trial. She and my son travelled on spirit on saturday and were to return on monday. My daughter-in-law suffered some health problems while there and is now hospitalized. It is unknown when they will be able to return. When my son phoned to be check out how to change the reservation when catrina was able to travel, he was told he would have to pay $150.00 per person to change the return tickets. He even had a doctor's note.
I am appalled that an airline would charge under these circumstances. The costs they have incurred flying back and forth from dallas to rochester is enormous. They cannot afford an extra $300.00 to change a ticket. They are travelling every two weeks for the clinical trial.

This has caused unnecessary stress for them to endure. I am contacting you for my son as he is staying with catrina and does not have access to a computer.

Thank you for your consideration.

Medical issues are difficult, and I'm sorry you and your family are going through this. That said, Spirit is very transparent about the fact that all of their tickets are non-refundable. Most airlines have multiple levels of airfares, and if you want it to be refundable, then you actually pay for that option. I'll bet your kids flew Spirit because their fare were much lower than other airlines. But Spirit also makes it clear on their website that if there is a possibility your plans would change - which clearly is the situation with your daughter-in-law - they encourage you to purchase trip insurance for $14. If they would have purchased the insurance, then they would have gotten a full refund.
Finally, it's not your dauther-in-law's fault that there were complications and she was forced to miss her scheduled flight. But it also wasn't Spirit's fault. It's very difficult for airlines to sell seats with less than seven days before a flight. That's why most airlines charge extra for the right to get a refund.
I wish your family well.

First off... Sorry for your problems you and your family are having...

That said, I do not see why you are upset with the airline company. They have rules just like anyone else.

If your son went out to get something to eat at the same restaurant every day for 2 weeks while his wife was in the hospital and could not stay to finish the meal that was already ordered and cooked one day because he had to rush back to the hospital for an emergency... Should the restaurant not charge him for that meal?

OR

If he made reservations at a hotel and could not keep them at the last minute then should the hotel not charge him ?

Again, sorry for your issues but if he agreed to the terms of the airline tickets when he purchased them then he has to stick with his choices. It is not always someones fault that things happen.

Spirit Airlines worst trip ever

Prior to buying our ticket through Spirit airlines we read all the reviews and had prepared ourselves for what to expect when booking with Spirit. No leg room, no snacks pretty much nothing extra except a flight to your destination. Boy were we wrong. The day before our flight Spirit had changed our flight with it leaving later than when we had booked the flight. That was fine, we could handle that. This is where things took a turn for the worst. Once we arrived at the airport with no warning were told that the flight would not be arriving until midnight due to the fact that the crew needed to rest. As our trip was only planned for three days this instantly took away one whole day of being in our destination of Las Vegas.

If that wasn’t enough the customer service that we received was the worst than I could of ever imagined. As there were three staff members standing there not one addressed our concerns or questions. We were simply ignored and I wondering if any of them had a brain and thought for themselves. As upset as we were no one acknowledge us until after 20 minutes or so after handling another customer at the same time. Are you telling me that only one person can be helped at a time when there are three staff members standing there looking at you like you have three heads. Once the manager turned his attention to us we were told to call a customer service number if we were not satisfied. Not acceptable by no means. I am the paying customer and I deserved better than that. I was told I would be given $50.00 in food vouchers with a layover in Kansas City for five hours. Nice, way to make me feel special. No I paid for a plane ticket to get me to Las Vegas by 12:00 noon that day. I understand things do happen with weather and delays but to be told the crew needed to have sleep was not acceptable to me in any way. It wasn't like this was just planned the day before. Staff should of be scheduled appropriately.

Needless to say I work in Customer Service as well and I would of never treated any one the way I was treated on this day.

You truly lived up to your status of being the worst airline ever.

Thanks for nothing.

You are very self centered, the crew on the plane are not robots, they are human beings as well, they need to rest just like you do. If you had a brain yourself you would know that yeah one person can be helped at a time. Where was mommy? I am sure if mommy had been with you she would have scolded you for not waiting your turn. You don't understand that things like weather happens because if you did you would not expect them to get you there on time and risk everyone's lives. This shows how self centered you are. Where do you work, because wherever you work needs to be investigated, there are child labor laws and it is illegal to hire six year old kids like yourself. The crew members are (unlike you) are human being, and to function properly they need to rest, Perhaps when you grow up you will realize that the world does not revolve around you?
