I signed online for this card February 2, 2007, thinking that it was a mastercard or visa. I waited two weeks for the card to arrive. Meanwhile then took the 79.95 from my account immediately. When the card arrived I was stunned to see that it was neither a mastercard nor a visa. You have to log into a site and shop for their products and they say they report this to TransUnion. I sent two emails immediately for they was closed. I told them that I thought they were dishonest and that they had deceived me. The very next day I got three emails from this company and also called and was told they would credit me 34.95 back to my account. I said I would contact my attorney general office, then I was place on hold. Okay, we will credit you 59.95 back. I said, you took 79.95 from me, I want all my money back for I never used any of your services nor did I order any of your junk. Needless to say, 20.00 is still outstanding and it will fight for it. Below is a couple of emails from this company.

Denese-

We have canceled your account. Cancellation confirmation is 31647. Also, your refund of $59.95 was processed, it should appear back in your account in 24-72 hours.

Thanks-
Amber

Dear Denese,

I am sorry that you feel you were "scammed". First and foremost, remember that the Horizon Gold Card was designed to help people re-establish their credit. Is this what you are looking to do? It's difficult and very risky to offer high-end items to a customer base that is rebuilding credit. Plus, large items are expensive to ship.

Credit works the same whether you are using a credit card on a shopping site or to purchase gas. Our card is a true credit card that reports back to a major credit bureau every 30 days.

We do have a partner site we can provide you with that offers a Visa. They do require an employment check as well as a credit check. Is your credit score high enough to support being approved for a Visa right now?

Being very familiar with our advertising, I know that Horizon Card Services does not advertise our Gold Card with a Visa or MasterCard logo. That WOULD be deceitful. We also make ALL Terms and Conditions available to applicants during the application process. I've attached a copy in order for you to review again.

We do require all of our customers wishing to cancel to call our Member Services at toll free 1.800.251.6144.

Thank you,
Kim

I am very disappointed in this company. I never thought I was getting a card to shop online for the garbage that I see on the site. I really feel scammed by this company and will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau. I never thought that once you took the 79.95 from my account that I was not getting a credit card (visa or mastercard) you have deceived me and I am really upset about this. Your merchandise is trash.

DENESE BROWN.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Update by Denese Brown

I have received lots of emails from those who have been scammed as I have or have their own doubts about the company. Most have requested a valid number to call. Here is the number to call immediately to cancel.

I am not able to give much more help. I hope that my posting has helped others not fall prey as I did and those who did, I hope my posting has given you the strength and courage to stand up and fight back.

Best Wishes To All,
Denese Brown.

I am so glad that I read up on this company. I was going to apply today and put it in my search engine because I couldn't find the website. Thankfully I ran into these messages which has saved me from heartache and pain. Not to mention money. I'm sorry all of you have had to go through this, and I hope that you will get your money back. Thank you for your post.

Totally mis-represented card uses. Let me believe it was regular credit card to uses at most merchants.
All of a sudden 29.95 came out of my bank account and would continue monthly...this is out radious
I have to pay s/h on other credit/debit card before I
can order from there store...for there retail price.
Very small inventory.

LOL!...I'm sitting here thoroughly reading the website for this card and if you actually took the time to read the website you will find that nowhere on the website is a mention of VISA or Mastercard. Also if you read you will see that the company does in fact state that this card is for purchasing merchandise from their website only!...If you take the time to read people you really wouldnt waste so much time. After I read through everything I found that I wouldnt be interested in this card. I didnt waste my time or money because I READ. I suggest from now on you folks learn to do the same. Good Day!*smh*

If you read all the disclosures you would have known it was not a Visa/MC. They never say it is a V/MC and none of the pictures show any logos.

I have a postcard from them in front of me. It says nothing about an upfront charge (which when I get through mail offers like these come with some kind of processing fee but other companies list price up front.)

On this card IT DOES NOT SHOW ANY LOGO FOR MAJOR CREDIT CARD! So, what do you people think it was? If it was to be for a normal credit card It would have some kind of logo on it. If these card offfers you get have no logo, then assume it is for catalog buying. Just open your eyes before you apply.

I am so glad I check online and found this forum. I just received a postcard from horizon telling me I was approved for a $500.00 credit card. After reading what horizon has done to other people I ripped the post card up. Thank you everyone!

Thanks to everyone for reporting their stories. I too got their "invite" in the mail. I have worked for credit card companies in the past and noticed it did not have a logo. So I went to their site to find that no where on it does it say that you shop off a catolog or what merchadise they carry. I decided before agreeing to anything that i better look it up a little more. I am so glad i did.

Also i work in Quality Assurance for an internet company and that woman's Customer service skills leave much to be desired. On that basis alone I wouldn't do business with them.

My advise to everyone is do research before investing. While you can't exactly trust everything on the internet. At least you can make a better decision. Even the company i work for, which is honest and founded by good people who have a wonderful product, get bashed on the internet because customer's do not read everything. Always read the fine print! because internet based companies can't call you to explain their product.

However, this company is extremely sneaky and since they are not clear on what they are providing in their invites or on their site you all should consult a lawyer. you may be able to start a class action suit.

I'm sorry but you guys are all wrong. It shows the picture of the card VERY clearly, no mastercard or visa logo anywhere. The terms and conditions ae right there who bothers to check. You guys get bent out of shape because of something YOU did. Nobody sits at your computer desk and makes you navigate to this site, or makes you skip the terms and conditions, and click the accept button. This company cannot take money from your account unless YOU authorized it. It's not a case of the company fooling anyone, it's just another case of people not reading or bothering to care what they are signing up for. come one guys, this is your credit, and your credit rating, have the common sense to read the details! The attorney general or anyone else would laugh you right out of the office for the very same reasons! Wise up guys.

For the people that thought this was a Visa or M/C, sorry, but are you serious? That is not indicated anywhere on the ad, which should give you some indication, plus the photo of the card clearly shows a card with a number staring with 8000... Don't you know Visa cards start with 4000 and M/C with 5000? Wow!

My husband received the card in the mail from Horizon Gold. He to thought it was a regular credit card. I'm glad I googled them and found all the complaints about them. I was scammed last week by Tom Mark Art Galleries. To all who read this beaware of counterfeit cashiers checks that are being mailed to people saying you won a lottery. Once they start sending you scams they will continue. Good luck to all of you!

I received the little card in the mail this morning. I did however notice there wasn't a visa or mastercard logo on it and decided to google it. Thanks for all the info provided (though you had to go through all of that to let the rest of us know.)
Be very wary of anyone/company that offers ayou a $500 credit limit WITHOUT doing a credit check!

looks like your bank could do something about taking this money out of your account, if you have told them that you do not have this card and it is a scam. give them the web site and let them see what is going on.and maybe you can get them to stop taking money out of your account, if not just close your account and open one up with some other bank, that way the scammers can not get any more of your money

and told them NOT to resubmit my app- and sure enough I got my paycheck direct deposit last night and this morning its ALL GONE. I AM ###ING PISSED. I tried calling horizon and they HUNG UP ON ME! NOW IM REPORTING THEM TO THE BBB.

ALL I CAN SAY IS: THIS HAS BEEN A REAL BAD EXPERIENCE WITH SCAM ARTIST.
I APPLIED FOR HORIZON GOLD CARD, THEY CHARGED MY ACCOUNT 99.95 IMMEDIATELY.
I CALLED AND GOT 50 DOLLARS OF IT REFUNDED. THEY TALKED ME INTO KEEPING IT OPEN, SAID I HAD A CREDIT LIMIT OF FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS AVAILABLE, AND, IT WOULD NOT COST ME ANYTHING UNLESS I BOUGHT SOME OF THEIR JUNK.
WELL, I WAS OUT 49.95. THE FOLLOWING MONTH, THEY CHARGED MY ACCOUNT 19.95+1.00 WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. I HADN'T EVEN USED THE CARD.
I CALLED, THEY SAID THERE IS A MAINTENANCE FEE EACH MONTH.
I ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR. SHE SAID SHE WOULD CLOSE THE ACCOUNT ( AFTER GETTING ME ALL UPSET) AND CREDIT MY CHECKING FOR 13.95, GAVE ME A CANCELLATION #.
I AM NOW WAITING TO SEE IF SHE IS BEING TRUTHFULL, HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE REFUND YET.
HAVE TO CLOSE MY CHECKING AND FREEZE MY DEBIT CARD SO THEY CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE OUT.
THIS HAS BEEN AN EXPENSIVE LESSON, DON'T FALL FOR IT, IT IS A SCAM, BIG TIME

Read their terms and conditions. They're quite plain and clear. If you are so naive to think that you can just fill out an online application and get a Visa or Mastercard with no credit check, then you need to pull your head out of the sand and do some reading. In addition, many people are not seeing the big picture here: If the card reports to Transunion, it looks just like a Visa or Mastercard. That's an amazing product, especially when there's no credit check. That builds credit. Those who felt fooled: You fooled yourself by being ignorant about how the credit system works.

I went to this Horizon Card website and saw that they wanted your checking account details. That in itself was RED FLAG to me. I shut that website down immediately and then looked for reviews and found these. Thank God I never proceeded.

Just got junkmailed this card application, and there is ZERO mention of Mastercard or Visa anywhere in their literature, and the miniature replica of the card they show also has no logo to it.

If you have bad credit and are trying to re-establish, you're going to get these kind of offers. They don't charge outrageous interest, but the markup on the stuff they sell makes up for it. IF they really do report transaction history on their card to TransUnion (and that's a big "IF"), then this really isn't any better or worse than "secured" MC/Visa cards at 25% interest. If your credit really is this bad, you gotta start somewhere.
