How responsive is Dollar General's customer service?

Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Dollar General handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Dollar General and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Dollar General inside theft and poor customer service

I caught the store managers daughter swapping price labels in her store... I'm appalled!. The manager treats the customers poorly. I have lived in this town a long time. I know that the old store manager had banned this girl from OUR store for the same thing. I shop here all the time. And ever since Marie Hartzog showed up she treats her customers ugly. She has been complained on before and was completely over looked by the District manager...Same way with a employee named Betty. She is rude and treats the other employees like they bother her when they need help with something. She os always outside smoking when the cashiers need help or get backed up, we have complained several times to the manager and yet she is still there. No smiling face nor a friendly greet when you walk in. Our store has a Kimmie that works here and she goes above and beyond to make sure we find what we are looking for always a friendly greet, knows most of us by name and HELPS with the DGcupons. Miss Kaity is a very bright and helpful young lady. We only shop there when certain people are working cause they take their time to help. Clayhatchee is a very small community and we are all very friendly but the store manager has made hateful comments about some of the people and thats not how a manager should talk. If this keeps going on I feel I need to contact the BBB and see what they say. Obviously the district manager doesn't care how his managers treat the customers. Please get her and Mrs Betty out of this store.

You should treat people like they treat you. If they're rude to you, retaliate by being rude back instead of threatening their livelihoods. Did they threaten yours?

Dollar General store and manager

The manager is extremely rude. Raises her voice and rolls eyes at customers. She has no concern for the store or customers. We were told we could go shop elsewhere. We now drive to the next town to Fred's. The store is a complete mess. Stuff is blocking the aisles and you cannot get a cart through the store. The floors are dirty. The store is in total dismay. Even if it got cleaned up and straightened out, the manager is so rude, she will continue to run people off.

Dollar General the employee and manager

I live in sulphur louisiana I went yesterday to dollar general store on 2974 n beglis pkwy store# 10317. And was purchasing some items and tripped over a stuffed stool that was in the middle of the isle and twisted my left ankle and hit my left knee on the shelf the witness went and told the employee and she came to help me and my son went outside to get my friend then my friend asked the employee to give her a accident report the employee laughed and called the manager and the manager came and she also laughed and then it took 20 minutes before my friend was able to get the report. And they wouldn't give their names. I'm going to hire me a lawyer if nothing is done! They don't deserve to be working with the public at all!

Dollar General customer service/ cleanliness

Hello I am writing you as a frequent shopper at the dollar general. My store of choice has always been Warfield Dollar General in Warfield Kentucky #3407.
I have always loved this store and it had the best Customer service when a man named Nick worked there. The store was always clean as well and items were easily accessible. For the past three weeks I have been traveling an extra distance to go to the Kermit Dollar general in Kermit West Va. due to a rude employee named Kay. I have been Noticing that the store has went downhill in cleanliness the past few months. I went to the store today just because I was running late and didnt have time to travel extra and when I walked though the store I was shocked at the mess. I am writing you only because I have commented on both the rudness and the cleanliness and nothing has been done about either. If I owned a business I would not want my store ran like that or look the way it does. I am attaching pictures so it can be known how Disorganized and dirty your store is. Thank you.

Dollar General wireless gear sync & charge cable return

A few minutes ago I went to the Caruthersville, MO Dollar General to return a 6 ft. Wireless Gear Sync & Charge Cable for iPhones (Model #G0536, UPC [protected]) and I was told I could not return the item without a receipt. They said they would accept absolutely no returns without a receipt which I know for a fact clearly goes against Dollar General's return policy. The policy clearly states that any item still in the packaging with no damage can be returned without a receipt for up to $25 cash or store credit for anything over $25. The manager on duty would not even give me an explanation as to why she would not accept the return and was honestly pretty rude about it. When I tried to tell her I had just read the return policy a few seconds before I came into the store, all she would say is "no exceptions you must have the receipt." Now the item in question was given to me by someone so obtaining a receipt would be impossible and even though it's only about a $10 item, it is the principle behind the matter I am concerned with, not the money. If one store isn't going to accept returns without a receipt then all stores should have to adapt that policy because allowing a manager to override company policy as he/she sees fit is only going to create chaos. So my main question to company support is this, How am I going to return this item since your policy I read online & on the wall in the store states that I can? And furthermore why is this manager able to override corporate policy without even so much as an explanation to the customer? It just seems like every time I walk into the Caruthersville store it is something, either the store has overstock spilling into every aisle making them impassable, it takes forever to checkout because only 1 cashier actually has a drawer in & the other cashier will only accept debit/credit cards, items are either not priced or they are mispriced, and I've even witnessed the employees with their cell phones out listening to explicit music which included the cashier while in the process of checking myself & my 5 year old daughter out. Just to give you some perspective too, this is the first time I have ever felt the need to file a complaint on anything or anyone in my entire life but rest assure it will not be my last if these issues are not resolved very soon. Just to be completely honest though I am about ready to just stop shopping at Dollar General all together or at least the Caruthersville location. Thanks for your time. I hope to receive your helpful response in a timely manner because despite all the problems, you cannot beat D.G.'s prices.

Sincerely,
Disappointed Customer

Dollar General dollar general

This takes place at Dollar General at most of them in the Kansas City Kansas area. They always have different people working all the time. It's like revolving door. The store is almost always a mess. Boxes in the isle's. Most of the employees are very unfriendly not to mention they never ask you about the digital coupons when to put your phone number on the key pad.

Dollar General advertising

You Fayetteville, Ga location has a handwritten sign in the door that is telling your customers that Police will be called on them if they enter the store with a pull over hood that is weather appropriate or a hat/head wear. As a mother, this is an uneasy feeling to think about a misunderstanding can go fatally wrong. If this is indeed business practice and within store policy, perhaps the request wouldn't feel as invasive if it we're printed on store literature or on a store sign.

Handwritten signs like that are prohibited. If there's such a rule like that, it should be verbally communicated to someone only if someone enters the store like that.

Dollar General management

The manager at the wildwood NJ dollar general is rude and ignorant. I've witnessed on several occasions him yelling and arguing with employees and customers alike. On another occasion I heard him talking with another person about how he got the job. Person said I thought you need a high school diploma to get a general manager position here and he said you do but I lied on the application and they don't look in to it

Dollar General new store manager

Let me say this I work in Philadelphia as consumer brand manager. I just move to area from North Jersey was impressed how the store was being run. When the store had the tall African American gentle man working their. Everyone was happy the employees was polite the smile at everyone when they was walking through the door. I was like wow this is the type of store that I don't mine spending money at. Which I was spending over 100 dollars week at. I have all my receipt to prove it. I even went out of my way to do survey for the employees because it was warm feeling when I walk through the door. Even when I am having bad day I could walk in the store and they would put smile on my face. Tall store manger was such great leader his employees would been over backwards for him. His leadership style was Transformative which was great for everyone. Even the customers that shop here. Now I know that this store goes through manager like people change their underwear. But, when he was their the turnover rate was low. It was clean and always was stock with help from the outside which did great job of stocking the store for him. Now this new African American Lady that's at the store is by far the worse thing Dollar General could do. If the company or the regional manager would look at the numbers and the turnover rate. They would see that by her being their it did not help the company. But by her being autocratic Leadership style it's not right for the store. My shopping at the store has gone down since she came on board. If the regional manager would ask the employees how the feel about her as leader. I can promise you that they would all say they would want the other guy back. I don't know any of the manager personal I just know them from me coming to the store almost everyday. I willing to drive 20 mins for gallon of milk then by something at the store while she is their. I really hope the employees that Dollar General stay. But, it really don't seem like it. Now you have whole bunch of non smiling miserable people working at the store. I would hire them in heart beat they have all the basic skills that we look for in employee. I know this will go through one ear out the other but, only thing I can say look at the you are about to loose a lot of great employees because of this lady. She don't smile don't say hello don't say thank you. It's like she shouldn't even be working their is you don't like dealing with customers. I had couple employees that work for me that act like this lady. I let all them go my numbers went up. I have happy employees my turnover rate went down to 2.38% after I took care of the problem.

She is. She is 1 of the employees there that wants to stand around gossiping and not do her job. There have been several customer complaints about her attitude and unwillingness to help customers. When I took over the store it was in a mess! I worked long hours and spent time away from my family to get that store back organized, clean, and shelves stocked. I expected my employees to work. The ones that did would get the hours and the ones that didn't work would get less hours. I am no longer there which is a good thing! I am not going to be told to keep employees who are lazy, rude, and disrespectful because certain powers to be are afraid of something being said because of the race of said employee. This employee has my # if she needs to get something off her chest instead of being anonymous on a website. What a joke 😂😂😂

Dollar General check process system

I have plenty of money in the bank and when I go to the store to write a check your check system declines my check and I have not trouble anywhere else.

I was recently in Pigeon Forge, TN and they ran it through three times and it finally took. I was at the store in Lebanon, TN on Main Street and it did the same thing.

The manager knows me and accepted my check and he is taking to Regions Bank.

I have no trouble anywhere else writing a check and it going through.

Please advise. I have almost $2, 000 in my checking account and just checked it again and it is there. I have over 6, 000 in my savings.

So what is the problem. Please give me a call at work at [protected].

or my cell phone at [protected].

My name is Judy Westerman and I retired from the corporate office in Risk Management about 15 years ago.

You shouldn't advertise on a public website how much money you say you have in your bank accounts. It's too dangerous in today's world.

Dollar General district manager

The district manager Kimberly Russell has her niece Jaye McMillan working at store #18224 and favoritism is definitely being shown and as well as Kimberly bringing her boyfriend on the job with her and he is antagonizing the employees in the store. Her niece should not be allowed to work in any stores that she is over and this is definitely a problem

Dollar General assistant manager

Hello I have had my concerns with your assistant manager Mariann at a Dollar General located at 1 Dominic Drive Ballston Spa NY 12020! My concerns are she is very inappropriate towards customers that are spending their money in this store, she is very inconsiderate when it comes to appeasing customer service, she is always out smoking instead of working, there's never a doubt you will be disrespected by this women when you shop there! I have had the greatest experience with the other employees but she turns a lot of people away with this demeanor. I stated I was calling district and reporting her after she made obscene comments about moving a cart or a rolltainer as she called it out of the middle of merchandise an elderly women was trying to purchase and she replied with "if you don't like how I run my store or talk to you then don't shop here my managers aren't going to do anything"! I really hope something is done! I know a lot more than my self has complained about her and we see nothing has been done since last summer about these complaints! I enjoy dollar general and shopping there and I would hate to have to stop shopping because of one narcissistic employee! I'm sorry if this seems rude in any way as I'm not trying to be but I am very disappointed as im a customer service associate my self and this is not what customer service nor retail stand for! Please again address these issues!

Dollar General manager

I am a daily customer and I have saw the manager try to bully the new girl who comes to work, looks nicely dressed and clean, and is nice to the customers. She actually put the new young lady initials of her first name on all the totes and it was anywhere from 16-20 totes and this lady was the only person ringing up every customer as well as doing totes and etc. Anytime the young lay calls her name and she comes up to do something the new lady needs her to do she is grunting and not wanting to do it. I also saw that she goes directly into the office when the young lady is working her totes and ringing up customers. She is taking her position to a bully level.

Dollar General store manager and assistant manager

I am writing to inform the district manager of some Shaddy stuff going on at the Dollar General in Winter Haven FL Us hwy 17 Motor pool winter Haven FL! First the older lady, I believe she is the manager is so rude, to her customers and employees to the point that they (employees) complain about her, and how she can not run that store, to her not ever really working and just always looking for the "penny deals" Whatever that is. Seriously this is what is talked about while a lime of customer s wait to get taken care of. I have witnessed Mareen, Isis taking grey totes out to their car. Enough is enough with these 2! They both need to be investigated. They even talked about how someone's draw was short $100 instead of taking care of customers. Isis was the manager on duty that day, I have never witnessed anything like that. The store manager always talking to who ever will listen to her, and how she talks to the employees...! I was talking to my friend that goes there and she said she caught the manager and assistant manager taking grey totes to their car! It needs to be looked into!

Dollar General the store has gone downhill since the new manager took over.

The store has gone downhill since the new manager took over. My local store is cressona, pa in the cressona shopping mall. Ever since the new manager took over the store has been a mess from Uboats being everywhere to just not having things stocked or visible. I've been going to this dollar general for 4 years now and don't want to even go in anymore. Everyone's constantly standing around (including the manager).

Dollar General employees

Im visiting in Hildebrand North Carolina my name is Jennefer Davis im currently writing this because I myself and my grandmother where in the store on November 21 2018 around 2:30 or 3 o'clock p.m. and where getting our last few items for thanksgiving dinner and we needed a oven bag for our turkey we looked for awhile and could not find it and was going to ask the cashier Jules, however she was very busy with checking everyone out before us so we decided to wait in line when we approched the counter she was very professional and well mannered she asked how we where and even doubled bagged our heaviest items for us i proceeded to ask if they had any oven bags for turkeys and she replied they where currently out at the moment which was very understandable, however when i asked her was she the only employee in the store working today she replied no that her crew was throughout the store somewhere that she could get someone for us to help us if we wanted she had already answered our question so we told her it was fine that she didnt have to reach out to the other employees. After we paid and the very bright young lady said goodbye to us and welcomed us back to the store we where over ecstatic and very satisfied with shopping there. Then we got ready to leave in our vehicle and seen 5 of the employees that Jules said was in the store out back smoking and goofing off while she handled a line full of customers all on her own in a fast paced and very polite manner and never got overwhelmed or rude. Im not sure if Jules is a leader or any kind of management but however someone needs to look into what i seen yesterday and give this young lady recognition for the very hard work she is doing for this dollar general because the other employees in there didnt care to come help they where outside smoking and playing games between themselves and one boy had a nasty orange sweat shirt on that didnt look appropriate and had shorts on as well. Jules made our shopping experience wonderful but after everything i dont think we will be going back there anymore.

Dollar General discrimination of employees

I worked for the Dollar general store number 15683. And the store manager constantly made discrimatory remarks about the job I worked before I came there. I am a cna and she constantly called CNAs butt wipers even after finding out that I am a cna. To me it was a very hostile work environment with her around, she would put some customers down if they came in wearing scrubs she would tell me they were butt wipers and laugh and say it was a disgusting job to have. Something should be done because to me she kind of acted like a bully that's why I left and went back to cna work because I could not tolerate the bullying and her belittling me.
