Costa Coffee stale food served

On Wednesday 15th May @ 1.30pm I was taken into my sons chosen place to have a drink and snack. We ordered 3 cream scones & 2 caramel slices (teas) Large coffee, small milky coffeee. & hot water. The assistant check the scone on display and looked for others, she asked for help from someone out of the kitchen to find them. The lady showed her and after a few seconds discussing the scone on display she presented us with it as well as our order. I checked each scone because I was not happy with what had happened. The scone on display which was served to us was rock hard I told the assistant I wanted a new scone as this was stale, she just picked it up and threw it in the bin and replaced it. No apology or anything. I was not happy about this. It makes me wonder what other things do they serve that is out of date.

Costa Coffee - Rude Staff

Had a very rude encounter with the MANAGER, 'Jennifer Saunders' of the shop today. After my friend purchased a set of cookies, she changed her mind and asked IF she could change it for a kit kat which was 30p cheaper, the staff member then showed a little annoyance and then actual fear at having to ask his manager's help. 'Jennifer' then proceeded to bang...

It seems like you are a caring and kind person. How they treated you (comments) was wrong and might get them into a lot of trouble. If you wish to take this further, contact Costa via email, they seem to be taking complaints very seriously.

Costa Coffee very rude staff with very rude manner

We went to costa coffee at Yorkshire outlet on 27 November 2012. My mate love the hot chocolate there much. She never want to have any of hot chocolate from any where else thn Costa. Unfortunately, we went there and the guy who served us was very rude in manner and he seem like so so races. Firstly we thought, it was not.But what happen is, my mate order her drink and before she pay..she told the guy, "please do me a nice hot chocolate yah". Cos she was specially come justt for enjoying costa drink and she was a right supportive customer of costa. But tht guy asking my mate, where she from. She told him From edenthopre. And he said to my mate, u should go back there to find some where else there tht u think they should make u nice coffee...This was so rude. We didn't said anything rude to him..Just only want to make sure they will do her a nice hot chocolate. Anyways, my mate still order it and myself order a cappuccino instead. We went to sit down. My mate drink her hot chocolate but she feel was not right..Cos it was not hot. I try my one, cappuccino...tht was hot hot.. Thn I went to the counter and I asked one of the female staff. She called Katie. She was so lovely and kind. I justt asking her whether she can warm the hot chocolate up for me. But she do the new one for me instead. But tht guy(male staff) come Thur and asked Katie, what i want. I know I am Chinese but I am BBC here. So unpolited of him...saying that we been sitting there for 15min ..tht why our drink should cold. But we just been there not more thn 10min. The cappuccino I have was nice and hot .Thn i asked him ..if u don't believed its, just tasted my cappuccino. If tht hot..that mean urs problem. Anyways, the was he staring at me and the was he said ..was so rude and i feel i being race cos I am Chinese not English? I know its sound abit rude here. But why i have to paid for being like mentally abuse and races? For making sure I am wrong. I saw him grate every tables that same skin colour with him . But when he walk toward my tables..he being so rude on the way he looking as us. We feel really uncomfortable. My mate ask one of the staff to have a chat with the manager on duty. The staff, I think his called Brad was so polite and nice. He apologised for him that he shouldn't have to . And he try to solve the problem. But however, why they have to employ a person, who never know how to respect they customer. I think the rude guys called James or? Really cant see his name taped. But i think when ask Katie or Brad who on duty that day, I think they might know who I might be mentioned about. We r living together in same country even though different culture but we r British. Status was same . Why just because me and my mate was different skin colour from him..That we being treat like tht. We wont be going to that place anymore! So so disappointed on the services that I get there. One of the staff was rude will spoilt the entire services of the shops.

Costa Coffee cleanliness

Since I started University in Newcastle I have been regularly visiting the Costa on Northumberland Street and every time I have been there I have walked in to be welcomed by tables covered in trays, cups, spills etc... And not only this, but there was no-one actually on-task clearing the tables. Now, on a rare occasion I could understand this but this has been the case on multiple occasions - clearly someone is not allocating the task of clearing up to a member of staff. Today I even cleared my own table because the only seats in the shop that were available were piled up high of rubbish and dirty plates and cups etc...

One other thing I have to add is why on earth do Costa continue to serve customers past the bar itself. In the store on Northumberland Street in Newcastle that I visit the queue was once out the door, staff seemed to be struggling with the amount of orders coming in and customers were confused by who had been served, who had paid and where their food and drinks were. Frankly, this makes no sense as I would rather wait in the queue, get my items quicker and have a table to sit at!

You cannot allocate someone on cleaning duty if everyone is busy. If it's a busy place and you go there during busy times, then tables will be dirty as there won't be anyone who can clean them. It is the managers fault for not hiring an extra staff to be around, when it's busy so that one can clean tables and dishwash etc. and the rest can be on till, coffee machine etc.

Costa Coffee innapropriate comments

I have visted costa coffee in malton only a handful of times, and I can not fault the girls who work there, so lovely and chatty and make me a great coffee, however on 3 occassions over the last few months I have been served by (As state on the receipt) "mikg", each time he has served me I have been subject to inapproprite comments from him. He has commented on my "low cut top" whilst staring at my chest, and even commented on my chest. Not appropriate. I have talked to a number of other women who have also had the same issue with this man, one of whom has put in 2 commplaints to head office about him, I guess nothing is being done about how he speaks to his customers. Very rude!

Okay, this problem should've been addressed because it's unacceptable. You should've asked someone who works there for the head office number and if they say they can't give it to you or they don't know it or whatever, go to another Costa and ask there, they should be able t o provide you with all the needed information...

A bit too late for that now, but in case you experience something like that again.

Costa Coffee unable rto give staff tip... as it must go to some africian charity to build schools

I visited costa coffee at watersones 20.08.2012 at 11.21 am and was served by "jodie" service excellent, as i'm disabled there was no problem in table service! When I was about to give this young woman a "tip" I noticed that all the tips went to some "charity". I was very upset at not being able to show my appreciation to this young lady and also the rest of the staff..
Surely its the customer who decides were the money goes and not head office. As you are a large company maybe you should take on the resposibilty of making sure the schools were built and let your customers carry on the the usual way of saying thank you for good service.
Yours elizabeth martin.

I appreciate your concern as I used to work in Costa. Tips are for staff's great service. It does not feel fair to take this gratitude away. Donating to charities should be voluntary, and not mandatory at the expence of minimum wage employees.

You need not worry as i'm fully aware that not all the money raised in these stores goes to the COSTA FOUNDATION, as the staff do use the money for bus fare, food ect, this money even gets used to buy supplies used to do the charity instore such as fancy dress, crayons as well as tools for the competition, some stores are lucky to raise £100 for this charity, so feel free to relax in the knowledge that should you be faced with this dilemma in future you need not worry at all. I myself many years ago manged to raise a whopping £500 in 2days for this charity and the customers were winners to as they all got gifts courtesy of other companies in the area, the prizes cost me nothing and the money raised was 100% unlike most stores, as many staff had there hands in the charity collection, to prevent this in my store I controlled the whole raising event as the same was happening in the very store I worked in, to prevent this I took control and managed to raise a large amount in the 2 days and bank the money immediately, the cause is a good one as they are trying to give an education to a lot of young children in Africa as education over there is not as it is here and the conditions are very poor, should you feel you can always give the money direct to the individual when they come to the table but be discreet.

my daughter worked in the tring branch of costa; when I asked her how much she got in tips she said she doesn't get any; I asked her to find out what happens to the tips and discovered that they go into a "transport fund for the christmas staff party" ; the waiting staff seem to have no say in this and I think it's diabolical-some staff are casual and if return to uni or whatever will miss out entirely.

Costa Coffee - verbal abuse from two members of staff

My friend and I had been sat in Costa for around half an hour and we chose to leave to meet some other friends. As my friend walked out the door a member of Staff, Holly Jennings, suggested squirting the cleaning liquid at my friend's face. I saw this and said "I don't think so, you're supposed to be a member of staff" to which she laughed. We walked out...

I went into Costa on the 26th June and ordered my usual mocha cooler, I found that it was very rushed and lumpy and tasted like milk.
this was not to the normal standard and i was very disappointed. I was in a rush so i didn't have the time to go back into Costa. to be honest i shouldn't have to.

To be honest - Costa staff training indeed is non existent, the managers are usually as rubbish as they can be and no one really cares about anything or anyone. They would literally tell their staff to watch how others make drinks and learn from them, which obviously cannot happen, the managers wouldn't really care about anything..

costa generally is the worst coffee house in the uk staff training appears to be non-existent and there appears to be no management structure. I have in the last 2 weeks been to cafe nero (bath, malvern and bristol) starbucks (clifton bristol) & boston teaparty (clifton bristol) and they are all head & shoulders above costa.

All Costa branches (including Rainham, Kent) give tap water free to all customers who ask.

It sounds like they didn't refuse to give you water, they simply said they didn't have a dog bowl, all you had to do was ask for a paper cup.

Linlithgow Leisure Centre (West Lothian, Scotland) cafe is now a Costa. Howeve, r you cannot buy a skinny decaf anything nor can you use your reward card. When asked why, the answer was "because it is a different bean". As I go there at least twice a week due to the kids activities I feel that I am losing out - not only on points but also the waistline!

Could someone please explain why this place is a "Costa" when clearly it's not.

Thank you - K. Brown

Costa Coffee paper cups & rude service

My son and myself stopped at the A1 Extra Peterborough this afternoon for a break. We ordered one normal coffee and one blackcurrant tea and a chocolate twister, I was told there were no herbal teas available and so had the breakfast blend.. The drink was served in paper cups as we were told no clean cups available. The service was couldn't care less attitude, the tea was disgusting. I object to this when you are sitting in AND paying extra for that privilege and then made to drink out of take out paper cups. I did notice that the lady and gentleman on the table next to us had proper cups and latte glasses. To be charged nearly £7 for this pleasure is unacceptable.

Most of the time if the costa is busy, the staff cannot clean tables and do dishwashing at the same time, so yes, it is possible to not have any clean glasses or plates or whatever, so this is acceptable, as already mentioned - you are being charged the same - in or away, doesn't matter. The tea would come in a cup and not a glass, so that is why they've given you a paper cup, of course they could've given you a glass, but they might've run out, depending on when the people next to you had their drinks, they might've ran out after that.

Coffee costs the same whether you drink it in or take it away, the chocolate twist would be charged more to eat in but I'm guessing that would have been served to you on a plate.

Costa Coffee service and hygiene

I called into costa coffee yesterday 30/10/2011... I ordered to large caramel lattes. I found the server to be very rude... It was 20 mins before the shop was due to close and you could see she was annoyed at the customers in queue. The guy making the coffee was to busy chatting and looking around him rather than getting on with making the coffees. Two customers where ahead of me in the queue and I still had to wait almost 15 mins for my coffees. I work in the local college in a coffee dock similar to costa, we have constant queues and can serve each customer within 5 mins of them ordering their drink... The jug which was used to heat milk was very dirty... It had'nt been washed... I am a trained barista and I know that milk will not froth in a dirty jug... The coffee machine was also very dirty.. Not hard to use a cloth to wipe down after every use... And a clean cloth at that... And to add insult to injury the coffee was not nice at all... I expected alot more for my money considering I spent almost 9 euro on 2 coffees... I will not be returning to this store..

Costa Coffee service / staff

I am writing to complain about the dialbolical service and quality of Costa goods in the Costa Rugeley shop.

I was in Rugeley visiting friends over the weekend and called in for a coffee and snack. i have to say, the staff were rude, the coffee was cold and the implements (cups, spoons etc..) were dirty.

This has to be the worst Costa coffee shop that i have EVER visited.

Your Majesty, that is the exact same thing I said to my neighbor when he asked me to turn down the music I was playing. It was so loud the sound waves made the whole town shake that they thought we were having an earthquake. Anyways when my neighbor asked me to turn down the music I told him if I did not turn it down when the cops asked me what chance does he have.

However it seems like the political leaders have a spelling problem in UK. It is spelled service. As for "Will" and "Elizabeth" it must run in the family, but Tony Blair?

I am a coffee lover and a regular customer at costa coffee but I was in Crown court in Birmingham on 11th October where i had costa coffee in their coffee shop. It was very light, like brown water so i requested to add more coffee for normal strength, the shop assistance stated that she was no able to add coffee without charging again and I was charged again the full price. I had to pay twice to have a cup of costa coffee. I am writing to complain about the diabolical service and quality of Costa goods in the Costa, they were serving weeks old pastries.

Costa Coffee accused of theft

On the 11/12/2009 we visted Costa Coffee Terminal 1 Heathrow aiport at about 3am in the morning. We were told the store was not open till 3.30am and could not sit down and wait. We purchased coffee and food at 3.37am and consumed them in the main concourse. My friend was flying to Brazil on a 7.30am flight and when check in opened at 6am we was in a queue waiting to book him in. An employee of Costa then appeared in fron of about 300 people and accused my other friend of stealing a flapjack from the store. We denied this showed him the bill and he went away no apology. This is nearly 3 hours fater we had supposedly stolen the flapjack ! I then contacted Costa Customer Service on the 11/12/2009 and I was assured that the Area Manager would investigate.
It is now the 12/01/2010 and still no reply.
I have contacted Costa Coffee again and they once again will pass the matter onto the Area Manager for investigation !
I suggest that if you use Costa Coffee in future beware of being accuserd of theft 3 hours after you have left the store !
Also Costa do not take their customer complaints seriously !

Costa Coffee suspect cheque

A number of days ago, I requested an urgent answer to the question of a suspect HSBC cheque that was sent for me to submit for clearance on behalf of a company called "Costa Coffee" . I sent all the correspondence and the cheque (Poultry Branch) for you to verify if it was indeed genuine. I am now receiving constant calls asking if the cheque has cleared. All the information and cheque was sent to your Fraud Operations, Fraud Office, Park Street. Please either advise of the status of the cheque or provide a telephone number at your office in Park Street, in order that I may discuss this matter.

Best regards, John Tildesley.
