Belk online payments & customer service

Do not get a belk card. Caveat emptor: they have no way of tracking payments though electronic funds transfer. I made my payment through my bank's (Very reliable) online bill pay service. Three weeks later I received a bill from belk with late fees and warnings that I had not paid the previous month's bill. When I called customer service and gave them the date of the transaction, the amount, the eft number, etc. They told me they would "file a statement" but that I was responsible for paying the whole amount again as they have no way to track electronic payments that come into them.

Do not do business with belk. I've been patronizing them for 40 years and it stuns me how much their customer service has gone down hill over the past 5 years.

the belk store service is not nice. I went to triangle town center in raleigh, nc 27616.in the misses sportswear department.an older white employee named laura was rude to me.Two weeks in a row.She saw me and refused to wait on me.She did nothing.I had to ask the store manager for help. The store manager in the same department was just as rude.He is a white tall male with white hair.He saw me and tried to run away.he not apologize when I complained to him of the one salesperson not want to help me.he also not volunteer to tell me about a store sale the next day. Laura rushed to get rid of me.And she talked to me in a rude way.I have seen her rude to other customers beside me.

I forgot to mention that their interest rate is now 26.49%. I will pay off this account asap. Lesson Learned! I think the BBB should investigate!

I am so unhappy with Belk, and it has been a place that I have always loved to shop. When I got my statement today I noticed a significant interest rate increase. I called and cs told me that I was late on 2 payments. How in the world could this have happened? I have this on billpay, and it comes out electronically on the same day, for the past several years. She explained that the billing cycle could have a deviation fo 4 days, and that I had paid my bill too early, and it had been placed onthe last month’s statement. So I have 2 late payments.
How can you change the due date at random.
My love affair with Belk is over1

Belk online billing system

Please get your online payment system working! I'm sick and tired of having to drive to a belk at the last minute because your system is down again. Either offer the convenience of online payment and fix the problem or shut the whole system down and stop wasting my time! Jeez - you're a pretty big company can't you hire someone who can get it up and running on a consistant basis? I feel like tearing my card up and mailing that in with my next payment

I have had a Belk credit card for 20 years with no previous problem(s), but now I have checked my credit report and I see Belk has reported me for late or delinquent payment, unknown to me.

I have tried to register my new account online numerous times over the past 3 months - it is extremely frustrating and annoying. I also tried to call belkcredit today and the phones are down. I am a person of convenience and Belk's is NOT a company for me. I will be canceling my card as soon as I can get it paid in full.

Belk pay discrimination

Belk, is the only retail establishment, that has employee's doing the same work for wages that are inconsistent, and unfair. There is no equal pay for equal work. Once you have established a set salary, their evaluation system (goes by points that they have established) they will do everything possible to find a way to lower your score, resulting in "pay cuts"
WE have top sellers, who received pay cuts. _Their HR deparment is a sham, NOT THERE for employees, only there to back up the company.
The conditions in the store environmentally, have a lot to be desired...either you freeze, or you sweat. The Store Manager, is condesending to all employees, and there is a general loathing for that position, creating stress, and poor morale. IT seems as though with Corporate greed, that the BELK"S have now joined the group of shameful bonus's while they cut the pay of their employees to wages that can not sustain then. The store manager reply to this is "scale down your lifestlye" Tell that to the gas pumps, the electric company. and the gas company...who keep raising their rates. We have a widow, whos' gas has been shut off...due to the shamenful rate of pay and pay cuts. You can expect to do multiple tasks without any recognition, unless you solitcit "credit applications", if you fail to do this...they cut your pay, regardless of how well you take care of the customers and departments. Worse company I have ever worked for in my 40 years of working! BEWARE...DO NOT WORK HERE!

I am being abused every single day by the CSM, They are discrimating. The threatend to fire me and refused to listen to me because I am not white. This is at the Gainesville store, GA. The whites stand by the register and make sales while we, the colored ones are forced to do the slave job and nothing is being done. You cannot even open your mouth, they tell you to shut up.

Also, they crammed all the departments onto the 1st floor, making it impossible for people in wheelchairs, with walkers, canes, or strollers to shop. Multiple times I have had to physically bring out each item to the customer. I believe that is against some sort of fire regulation, or handicapped provisions.

Has anyone had the problem of having to work in the store after hours with no lights and no heat or air? Also does your store count your sales that you can not make due to the store being closed while you are not open?

I agree with you %100. There are people that don't keep their departments up and don't clean out fitting rooms that make the most money, because all they look at are your sales numbers and credit apps.

Belk beware

I have noticed in most belk stores that if you do not look like you have money you will be ignored.

Experience number one, I went to a belk about a week before my wedding, wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I was looking to buy some nice make up so I could look my best for my soon to be husband. The woman at the make-up counter was not only rude to me the whole time, she kept suggesting ugly make-up that made me look like a ***. I just got up and left.

Experience number two at a different belk store, in a different state. I wanted to purchase perfume. I was dressed in a hoodie and jeans, my husband was dressed the same, and I had my daughter being pushed in a stroller with us. After I conversation with the ladies behind the make up counter about my daughter, they pointed me to the woman working in fragrances. I asked her how much the perfume I wanted to purchase was, and she slammed it down on the counter, told me the price, and went off to help another woman, who looked like she had money and was already being helped by another woman.

I'm sorry if I don't dress like I have money every day. Let me assure you I have money, and if the people at this store can not humble themselves to show every potential customer respect then they shouldn't be in service! I have also had many similar experiences with the first belk store mentioned.

These people sicken me!

This JUST happened to me this evening at Belk in Durham. I was comfortable in a shirt and denim shirt...glad to get out of my professional work clothes. NO ONE would wait on me! I left and spent my money at Nordstrom where the purchasing experience was fun and courteous. I own a business. I tell my employees: never leave money on the table. If a customer is ready to spend, be ready to help them. Belk must be making so much money they can afford to leave money on the table.

I am a Belk employee as well. And not management. I treat all my customers equally, and I couldn't care less what clothes they have on. The only time I show partiality, is to a very nice customer who has treated me with respect. I will always treat them better than a rude customers, and I see plenty of those.

I'm a Belk employee. I'm sorry you were treated that bad. I just wanted to comment because I know the range of what these employees get paid and they are no one to judge what a person can or can't afford. Seriously, some of us make a little better than those at Burger King and I can't imagine why someone on this level should have a case of the snooties. Thats very sad that they might even believe that this job is actually prestigeous. Personally, I like to shop in my ratty jeans and a do-rag just so noone mistakes me for an employee and makes me work on my off day. Besides, it gives Loss Prevention something to do. LOL

I too have been treated as if I were a child being scolded by a parent. I have the misfortune to have an issue with a return and was directed to the manager .He was condesending and spoke to me as if I were less than compotent to be able to be without adult supervison . This was not an assistant store manager but the stoe manager at the Burlington.Belk really needs to better train theri managers on how to handle customers be they in the finest dress they own or in a hoodie and jeans...never agin will I be treated that way

Belk inhuman work conditions

Belk store in north point mall in alpharetta is going out of business and as a result they completely cutt off the air conditiopning in the store for over a month. It became extremely extreneous for the employees to function properly under such inhuman conditions of heat, suffocation and enclosed environment. One employee was so stressed out today that she had to be evacuated to the hospital. Please have a labor inspector dispartched to this store so proper actions are taken asap. Otherwise, many emplyees and customers may collapse due to heat stroke and suffocation.

In the johnson city store we are talked to like we are the lowest people on the face of the earth. And no one says anything to the floor managers when they do this. The customers give us their names and say if we want to file suit they will be the witness for us. This has happened more than once in front of customers and the floor manager gets loud. I think that Tim Belk should pop in unannounced one day and see how things are ran. All these sisters, cousins, husbands and wives are so close that no one else matters so the rest of us are treated worse than slaves. I think that it is time for a few changes in management because the store manager has his little sweeties who get to do what ever they want.

Same issue in my store as well. We are required to wear our best just so we can mess it up with gallons of sweat, dirty boxes, and crap (yes, real crap) from the dressing room. Customers complain all day that they are about to pass out from the heat and the higher ups don't care. I seriously believe it will take someone dying of a heat stroke and their family suing the company before they will ever change this.

It is just the same at the Belk in in jc tn where I work we had a fan to keep us cool and the customers, but one of the reginals did not like the way it looked so we are not aloud to have a fan now. Customers have sweat pooring of them when they come out of the fitting rooms and ask why it is so hot all the time. I'm sure if the reginals managers had to work on the floor just one day they would make an adjustment on the air conditioning system or at the least let us have a fan.

Well, the Pineville NC is not closing, and we melt on a daily basis. We used to have an HR Mgr, that "cared" (imagine that) and came down a literally "measured the air temp", with a meter. Now, ( since her retirement) the heat is unbearable, causing nausea, and headaches, and down right sweatshop atmosphere. Let alone the mold comng out of the ducts, and the dust. Working here can make you physically sick, and it has!

Belk management

Management and floor supervisors treat their best employees very poorly. I witnessed four of the best associates being treated with disrespect. I have shopped here for many years these employees names are ann hutchinson, alice tennet, bruce simpson and debbie blythe. These associates have been with the company at least 15 years or longer and deserve to be treated much better than they are. Lori, the shoe dept asm needs to grow up. She will not give debbie credit for the great service, great organization, and the overall wonderful job she does. Its pretty bad when the customers will give her credit and her boss will not. Lisa is also a very poor manager. She needs to give credit where credit is due to alice and ann for their outstanding service in the house dept. And to bruce in mens. These people are very known in hendersonville and are very important people. They are very loved not only by the customers but the families of their fellow employees. Anytime you see debbie all you see around her are smiles. And I believe she is a wonderful person and a very important asset to the company. I believe something should be done about this injustice.

My name is Wanda and I have a complaint

I had my receipt on an item that was bought on Saturday. The clerk would not let me exchange a ring that was only $20.00 and on sale for @13.99. I bought 4 by the way. The one I was trying to exchange stone fell out after wearing it one day. I was told I could take it back to the store I bought it at, which is about 30 minutes away and I couldn't exchange it because I didn't have the box it came in. She said she had no way of looking it up without the box. I Had kept telling her the upc was on the receipt. To make a long story short, she would not let me exchange it. I left furious. I had spent about 400.00 in a Belk store that day (Sat) and today is Thursday (Feb 16) Had I not hard a receipt, I would understand me not getting another ring. I plan my Belk credit card off and I WII NOT spend another penny in Belk. This is not a return policy at all. Thanks... My phone # is [protected] and I am home after 5pm. I also work in retail at a pharmacy

Belk rude manager

I have been treated rudely by the Sales Manager at the Burlington NC Belk the last 3 times I have been in the store. The first time, I was purchasing several suits for my son's wedding. I could not find all of the sizes I needed at one location. The sales person that was assisting me, Will, was very helpful but needed to ask the Sales Manager, Noah, a question. Noah was very rude to this associate in my presence which personally offended me. After all, I was the one who was trying to make the purchase. The next night, I went back to the store with one of my sons to try on a jacket and make sure we were getting the right size. I could not find the size I needed. Noah, the Sales Manager, was close by, so I asked for assistance. He said everything was out and turned to walk away. I was absolutely astounded that he did not offer to help any further. I asked the sales clerk to call him back over and told him that his response to my request was rude and that he should have tried to help me find the right size. His response was that he thought I had looked through all of the jackets. There must be over 100 on the floor. I told him that it was his job to help. He was not the least bit apologetic or helpfu. Additionally, he was dressed in jeans on both occasions, entirely unsuitable for someone in his position.
Today, I went in again. This time to return a blouse that did not fit. It took a few minutes to find another blouse to complete the return. Mine did not have the ticket on it for the bar code. When the transaction was finished, the sales clerk said, "All that for $8.16." I could not believe my ears. Did she make less money because she had to make a return? Isn't it her job to assist the customer? If I were her manager, she would be picking up her pink slip right not! Of course, Noah was the manager on the floor today, and I knew it would be useless to discuss this with him. After all, she probably learned her rudeness directly from him.
All I can say is that I am through. If I can find the suits I need for the wedding elsewhere, Belk will get every piece of that merchandise back and I will never shop with them again. It is really very sad too. Every sales rep I have encountered in other stores has been exceptionally easy to work with. I don't know why Burlington's staff is so rude, but they are a black spot on the Belk employees everywhere.

The manager should have at least tried to find the item with the ITEM LOCATER feature at the register that no one seems to care about operating. True, they don't back stock and all merchandise is on the floor but when you're going to great lenths, and spending that much for an occasion, the manager should have at least made an effort. He could have found the size you needed at another store and had it shipped to your home.

As for the lady doing the return. Sometimes the system does give us trouble when we dont have a ticket to scan and if you don't have a receipt the register won't return the item at the price you actually paid. It will give you less (which is unfair in my opinion). Then if the refund is cash or gift card there's a screen of required information to collect from the customer before the computer will allow us to proceed (name, address, phone#, drivers lic#, ect..) It sounds from what you described that she may not have told you her wage but rather made a comment of how much trouble we have to put the customer through just to give them a miniscule amount. It's awkward for us to be put in the position of obtaining all that, just as it is for you to have to give it to us.

Also, if the manager was rude and talking down to the staff in front of customers, just think what these employees must have to endure when you're not in the store. Anywhere else, issues with employees are handled in an office with the door shut, very professional. However, many of us are yelled at, talked down to, written up, jobs threatened, and even cussed at All in front of the customers. It's quite humiliating.

As a former Belk employee I am sorry. Unfortunately it does not surprise me in the least. First please don't shop there anymore take your money elsewhere. Did you go to the store manager of the store just to atleast get the last say! They treat everyone rude and are a bad company to work for. I was fired about 2 months ago (after 14 years and no bad anything) for not making my instant credit goal. I would definitely call the store manager and complain...they do listen usually and practically give the store away b/c the customer is always right. Good luck.

Belk reprimanding an employee in front of customers

Friday, june 26, 2009, I went shopping to buy an outfit and shoes. While in the shoe department, a nice young man (Charles bowden) waited on me. He's always waited on my daughter and i, he's artistic and has good taste along with being friendly. I showed him my new outfit and he was pulling shoes to show me what would look nice with this outfit. I decided to try on five pairs. In the midst of him helping me, the sales manager by the name of beth, started yelling at him and asking why he didn't get done what she asked him to do an hour before. I got so upset, I kept apologizing to him. Finally, I turned to her and said he is waiting on me! I didn't buy any shoes and told charles I was so sorry. My hands were shaking, I was so upset. If he did something wrong, why didn't beth wait till he was done waiting on me and then take him in the back, away from customers to reprimand him. I went to the ladies department to pay for my clothes and the sales clerk told me she would call the manager. I explained to the manager or assistant what happened and all she said was i'll take care of it, don't call corporate office. After she left other employees indicated this is the treatment they get from management. It's clear to me your managers and assistants need to be trained on how to treat employees with respect to accomplish tasks! What was supposed to be a carefree fun day of shopping at belk's turned into a complete daymare for me.

I've often wondered if those cards actually do any good. Are they even opened and read at all? I know there have been several times customers have sent in positive feedback on those cards and the employees that gave good service we're never told that anyone gave them a complement. We find out from the customers when they return and ask if we got recognition for their comments about us.

Great suggestion. My husband has been a retail manager for over 30 years. The store manager's do not like the negative comment cards to go to corporate. The store managers are held responsible for the negaive ratings they get.

I belive that they should send to corporate. How else are they going to know if there is a problem?

Wow. That was awful. Still, not buying the shoes only punishes your helpful shoe's associate who gets paid on how much he sells. It's that pesky "pay for performance" rule (commision-ish). Besides, why punish yourself by not buying shoes that probably looked great with your outfit-since he's artistic in that respect.

Here is what you should have done:

Atfer telling the manager that she was being rude by interupting the services he was providing to you, you should have pulled one of those customer comment cards out and started filling it out about her right in front of her, narating it as you wrote. Then tell her that you would be mailing "this" to corporate offiice. Then ask her for her bose's name, business line, and the best time to reach him/her. Be totally calm about the whole thing. Trust me, the store managers hate negative comment cards that go to corporate, it puts a mark on their record. You'll see results.

Belk do not shop at belk unless you support the reasons they fire associates! do you want to be strong armed into opening a belk charge!

I am proof that you can be fired from belk for not getting enough instant credits. I worked for the company for 13 years and never was written up for anything! I missed my goal in this wonderful economy by 2 and am now unemployed. I can not believe what a horrible company they are. The other thing is they did a major pay cut and pretty much brought most employees down to minimum wage...
Glad you cut up your card. To those that aren't having trouble now with instant credits unfortunately some of those employees are racially profiling and giving free gifts away knowing the person won't be approved but wants the gift (Cosmetics). People are taking credits applications to the streets to save their jobs! Sad and shame on belk.

As a customer I hope that you will express your concern to the belk brothers who obviously don't care. Almost every member of management in our store smokes... And they are usually outside every 10 mins or so... That is really productive time for your business. I know they are picking and choosing who they fire and I hope ppl start to think twice about getting together and suing them. If you are fired for this make sure you apply for unemployment until you can find something else you will get it. It won't be much but it is something. Also cobra is not bad right now thanks to obama... The company will have to pay 65% of your coverage! Please comment on this and any other belk complaint to keep up in the rankings! Thanks for your time. :-)

Tonight at the Belk in Kill Devil Hills, NC my mother and I were at the register waiting for the cashier with her purchases. She asked my elderly mother if she had a Belk credit card. My mother told her that she did, but she wished to make the purchase with the credit card that she was holding.

The clerk continued to ask about her Belk card, and I told her, "She wants to use a different card today." The clerk didn't acknowledge me at all. She convinced my mother to give out her phone number so that she could look up her Belk card. She then turned the pinpad around so that we couldn't see it, teling my mother that her Belk card had been cancelled. Then she said, "Let me try looking it up another way.." and told my mother to key in her SSN twice. I spoke up again, asking if she's trying to sign her up for an additional credit card. She said no.

Finally after a few minutes, the clerk says, "There, I've given you a new card number, and handed her a new card brochure. Then she preceeded to tell my mother that she used her new Belk account for the purchase! I was floored.

Is this how business is run at this location? My mother is 72 years old and not in the best of health. I drove 2 hours just to take her shopping, only to have some "clerk" purposely confuse, lie to, and take advantage of her!

My mother and I had planned to purchase most of our holiday shopping from this location-but I can guarantee that we will NOT being returning again-especially if this cashier is allowed to remain and continue this practice towards the elderly.

The actions of this cashier were unethical to say the absolute least.

Not sure how a website can be down on the busiest shopping day of the year. A sign that this dinosaur is not capable of keeping up. I had 4 items on my list which I ordered at Macy's and amazon with no issue. If you can't satisfy the online customer, you might want to step aside, Belk.

I work at the cosmetics counter for Belk, and the stress nearly has me pulling out my hair. The only thing more stressful than Belk's expectations is *the cosmetics company*'s expectations on top of it. We are in a very low traffic store, but are expected to do the same numbers as the much bigger store in a nearby city. My manager told me to offer free cosmetic samples for people that open credit accounts, and said that if I didn't make that goal I could be fired (even though I'm making all my sales goals).

Where I work there is an employee that tells the customers if they give "the employee" their drivers license, "the employee" give them a discount. Then opens a credit card for them without the customer's knowlege. People have complained after receiving the cards in the mail but management does nothing and this person gets alot of praise for doing something that is dishonest and possibly illegal. Lies, deception and not to mention messing up someone's credit score. How is that customer service? That's customer abuse.

I have worked for over 40 years now, and I can verify that BELK is the worse out of several jobs I have held. Management undermines employees, pressures them without ceasing over the credit card solititation, "lies" continuoulsy with "threats" over things that are against the law ie: if you do not take an hour lunch/dinner it will be deducted anyway! Never a kind word from management, and the push to collateral duties is riduculous considering the pay. I was, at one time, in management with this company many years ago, and IT WAS NOT LIKE THIS. It seems that with the "greedy kids" being at the helm things have radically changed for the worse for anyone employesd with this company. The stress is astronomical. I know of a group in California that sued their company over "stress". Perhaps it is time to ban together and do the same. What would also stop this nonsense is a UNION. Then management would have to show compassion and "fair play" among the workforce. Remember what is driving all this is GREED, pure and simple with no regard for human welfare of the workforce. HR is a joke withint this company as well...they do not know the defination of the position: HUMAN RESOURCE...
they have taken the "HUMAN" out of it. The whole thing is just sad, and I think that everytime you have to solicit a "credit app" you should tell the customer "WHY"...tell them your job is at stake...it's the truth, and perhaps they will begin to see what BELK is really all about.

You are absolutely right! I go through the exact same thing where I work.We have people that take credit card applications home with them and try to con people outside of work to fill out applications. We even had one lady that signed up a person with Alzheimer's for a credit card. When the persons daughter found out she was livid and I dont blame her.I have suspicion that some of the employees are offering extra discounts or merchandise to customers so that they will apply for a charge card. How else does the same 2 or 3 employees always get huge amounts of applications when the rest of us are begging people to apply and still cant get them?
Our store manager has started making us take back items (for refund) that were not even purchased at a Belk store. We have refunded for items that were a JC Penney brand and even a pair of shoes that were a walmart brand...he says its not our dollar! It will be when the store closes down because of poor business management and we no longer have jobs!
Our store manager also encourages bad customers by giving them gift cards when they curse at the employees and are obviously trying to get something for nothing...even the people that physically hit employees have been rewarded for that behavior with gift cards to make them happy at any cost!
I dont know about the store where you work but where I work if you get say a $2 raise at your review...well the economy has slowed and your sales dropped and you arent getting your credit applications? Next review they take that raise and then some away from you!

I currently work at a belk as well and while i work at a larger store now, i started out at a tiny store where belks was one of the main dept stores. Trying to open a account there was like pulling teeth. At one point my manager told me i could not go to lunch until i had gotten someone to open an account. Ridiculous right?!
Even now at a larger store with the economy being the way it is, ive seen a drop in people wanting to open accounts etc. Yet the belk corporate suits fail to see this and dont adjust the number required to open.
I have actually stopped shopping at other stores (ie. Victorias Secret) that hound you to open a charge account. Being asked repeatedly thru out the transaction even after saying no thank you is such a huge turn off.
Having your job rely on how many credit card accounts you open a week is ridiculous and i want everyone to know what we have to go thru to keep our jobs.

I was terminated from Belk August 13, 2009 after employed 3 years from store# 244 Myrtle Beach (Coastal Grand Mall)due to on going matter I was called names and harrassed since I started; I am originally from New York and the HR manager Donna Blatton is prejudice against northeners and has indicated so at many occassions. I complained numerous times to the EXCEL line and the store mgr and merchandise mgr at the time supported me, but both are gone now. The new store mgr says I should tolerate the abuse from management and this stems down to the co-workers. All these comments made from management set poor examples to co-workers. This store has extremely low moral and the store manager Mr. Hebert, HR manager Donna Blatton, and Crystal Reese should not be managers because they insult the workers because it makes them feel superior. I was let go because of intolerable behavior to me from another co-worker and I stuck up for myself to the co-worker because everyone else is nasty to each other and management does nothing about it; so I told the co-worker to "kiss my ***" (I was not even on time clock; clocked out for lunch); and I was suddenly fired; but when I went to Ms. Blatton for 3 years about people making fun of me they never fired one person. Also this Crystal Reese who a ASM is the worst supervisor and she is the most evil human being and has no respect for people; I donot how they support or how they become ASM's. Why do they let anybody become managers in this company, it definitely does'nt require people skills or professionalism.

To whom it may concern,
My name is cpl golding. In sept. 2008 I was approved for a credit line for a belk credit card, and made a small purchase. In late october 2008, I was deployed to iraq and am still here as a matter of fact. I informed the company that I would be deployed until may 2009. I checked my credit report, and found that my account was in bad standing from nov 08 to about jan 09 at which time I paid off the full amount. I am requesting that the company contact the credit buraeau explaining such and that my account wasn't supposed to be in ill standing, thus fixing my trade line. Belk treated badly

I guess you are right about belk. That is right belk is the worst place to work. I had a same problem and we had been treating like that. You right about if you are known person for manager you will be treat good or if you not then they put all presure on other. I work at traingle town belk I had so many complain about those issues but they did not pay attantion. So I was tired with all management like richard, tony, lauri and linda but they don't so then I decide to call excel line. I called and talk about that. Now they called me and said why you call on hot line and said you lie to them with out investegate our problems so store manager was telling his own story and seems like they want to get rid of me because I complain about them. So they were asking some non sence question to me which is not belong to me and also they lie if they have to save somebody's job. Well I decide to quite from there and if somebody wnat to fix that problems over there so they should fire there management not emplyees. I am going to complain about this labor department soon about descrimanation.

I have worked for Belk for a few years. I recently left. They do treat their employees badly. When you take steps as outlined in the handbook to get help to resolve issues--you only create a big red target on your back. I was out on FMLA leave after my child was in an accident. When I tried to return, I knew something was wrong. Long story...I will post exactly what happened soon.
You are right, the people that are treated the worse are the associates on the floor. Management is twisted and some people in loss prevention are too. One LP person quit because she said she couldn't take part in "setting up associates" like her LP boss wanted her to. Me, along with other current associates are wondering how Belk gets by with all the devious behaviour by upper management?

Belk no credit card upgrade

I have been with belk department stores since 2003. I have always paid my balance off every time I use the card thus having a perfect payment history. To get an upgrade on their credit card you must spend 600.00 per year. Well my husband just lost his job in july and does not have an income. We use my money to buy much needed winter wear due to this cold front. I called to get an upgrade on our credit card so we would get a good discount on the clothes and was told no you have not spent 600.00 this year. It is only january. She refused to give me credit for the money I spent over the period of 2003 to 2009. She did not care that our payments were paid perfectly and always on time. Her answer was simply "no". Maybe if they would look at a customers payment history and how much money they spend without seting such a high limit during such hard times they would have more customers. The stores are almost always close to empty. I like to shop on line since I do not drive but their site is limited and use the macy.com site instead. I am a good customer of belk but am considering canceling my cards and just sticking with macys. Belk needs to know if they cannot make their customers happy they will not be around much longer.

DO NOT get a Belk card. CAVEAT EMPTOR: they have no way of tracking payments though electronic funds transfer. I made my payment through my banks (very reliable) online bill pay service.

Just complain to management and they will give it to you for free :-) I stopped a girl who was known for ticket switching and her mom was an "elite" customer and the store manager called her the next day and gave her the dress that she switched tickets on for FREE!
Next, I am proof that you can be fired from Belk for not getting enough instant credits.
Sad and SHAME on BELK

Your website is the most difficult of any other sites I use to pay my bill on line. I couldn't remember my password, although I have it written down.
All your site would do is reset my id which I did not need to reset.

Most difficult to find your site to pay bill. I usually get your page to make purchases.

I have tried for OVER A YEAR to make payments online and it has NEVER worked. I ALWAYS get a "sorry we are unable to retrieve your info - please try again later" BS message. If this were a mom and pop store you could understand - but this is crazy! I have a funny feeling it's done on purpose hoping you end up a making a late payment so they can charge a late fee. And yes, I am using the correct user id and password - I can log in - just can't make a payment.

I had a hard time paying online and wound up with a couple of late charges (once because the site was down for two days, not my fault), one of which was waived. I had charged around $100.00 just before and during Christmas and had paid about half in January and thought I had paid the rest in Feb. When I called about the late fee (charged in Jan), I asked what the balance would be after the fee was waived. I was given an amount but did not pay over the phone (there's a $15.00 charge for that). I went to the website (that's another story!) and after I was finally able to pull my account up I paid the balance minus the late fee. Well, guess what? There was a late fee pending that was NOT showing on the screen and apparently the cust serv person wasn't aware of it. Anyway, when I opened my statement I was surprised to find a $26.00 balance - a late fee! I called and was informed that there is another late fee, $15.00, owed as well. No one would waive either fee, even when it was evident that I meant to pay out my account last month. I WAS a 44 year faithful Belks customer. My account was in excellent condition. Since my children are now grown I rarely use my credit card - mostly when there's a good sale and then I pay it off in chunks in a month or two. I guess they don't want my business anymore. Their loss, not mine. We have a Kohl's now, and a Target - and, by golly, I'll go to K-Mart before I go to another Belks. Patricia O'Neal, Greenville, NC

Belk marianita montero

I have worked for belk for the last twelve years, we always had problems in our store but things really went down about 3 years ago when marianita montero was hired as a regional manager. She is the most umprofessional, incompetent and clueless individual in charge I have ever worked for, she is a dictator, she micromanages and she is ruthless to everyone that works for her. Nobody is allowed to express their opinion nor go against her ideas, if anyone goes against her they will not last very long with the company. She will make their lives a living hell until they quit. Marianita montero has destroyed the career of many people that tried to stand up for themselves or to what they believed in by either demoding them or simply by making them quit. It is very discouraging to witness the low morale in the stores, the unfair way the managers are treated without any consequences to her. I know she can not continue doing this forever but, by the time someone realizes what is happening it will be too late, the northern region will be damaged to unrepairable conditions.

She(Marianita Montero) was the worst manager I ever worked for. She will stifle you. You will not learn anything good from this woman. She has a very underhanded way of managing and has all sorts of hidden agendas. Get out from under her is my advice or find another job before she drives you to that. For the company to continue to allow her to work for them, with all the values they claim to have is really funny. Just ask anyone in Wilmington that ever had to work for her. The company never cared enough to get statements or talk to managers or associates about the way she corrupted the store and people's careers.

While I do have to admit that most of these complaints are very true. I have to leave my name and location out for the time being. The company since the beginning of the New Year has taken a turn for the worst. The company management talks down to the associates and berates them in front of anyone that is there. There company policy handbook is there for all of you to read. There is a problem with the harassment in the stores. Read your hand book under sexual harassment. Degrading, insulting or making your job harder to perform is a form of sexual harassment. I would suggest collectively that all of you go to your labor board and file your complaints as ONE. You may also consider collectively getting as many as you can and hire an attorney to stop the corrupt behavior. It does fall on deaf ears and they don't do any about it. It will take a law suite in order for them to wake up. Then again in my vast experience. HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS THE MOST in the PURSE! Make it a public issue. The are taking the down turn of the economy and using it as a tool to take advantage of the employee's. I have heard the ASM's clearly tell employee's that if they didn't like it go and try to find another job. They do cut back the hours even though the store's show great increase's and yet cry poor mouth. There are employee's that have walked off in the last several months and the count has been forgotten at this point. Most of them walk off for the very reason's listed above. They are continually harassed over the work not done but, then again they don't rehire the staff they add it to the associates plate and berate them because it's not done? They want your "pay for performance" and your "required credit card applications" to keep your job. Yet you go from sales associate to a glorified maid, cleaning crew and stock person. While there is nothing wrong with any of these jobs, it is virtually impossible to do all of it and maintain there strictly enforced "pay for performance." Not to mention that the write up's for not getting the required FORCED on consumers Credit Card applications. If you don't meet the requirements you will be terminated (threatened). I don't know if anyone has but, then again I am talking about being harassed from the company management.

Since the 1st of the year, believe it or not, Belk is worse! Apparently, they are all corrupt. I have worked at Belk Greer, SC and Belk Westgate Mall in Spartanburg, SC. Our region was combined with another, so our Regional Manager moved to Myrtle Beach. Since he left in January, our MC is the store manager. People have been fired and quit (due to being forced out). While the MC, Jennifer Stuman sits on her lazy butt upstairs with her invisible chess board moving associates out and around the store like we are pieces for her to play with. She is a disgusting and vile creature who will step on anyone to get to the top. I wish the public knew how this "family owned" company treats the people who work for pennies. Do the Belk Brothers know and just not care? Or are they fooled by people like Chris Faranella, Dennis Carusso (Loss Prevention), and Jennifer Stuman?

i wrote to bob & tim B too. she is ruthless. and they love her. she has chased associates away, asm's have left. she causes managers to leave. and the brass love her! they promoted her! all the way to charlotte.
they talk about their charity and christian ways etc... but they are all bloodsuckers. while associates lose wages and hours because they cut everything in the stores, the corporate guys still live well.
CONCLUSION: she will continue to rise in the company as long as she does their dirty work. BELK is a company that use its' employees until they break, then they throw the worker away and get another one.

I worked for belk and let me say it was the worst company I have ever worked for. I have never been so stressed out over a department store job before, even at macys or jcpenny. They purposely do not hire enough people so that the managers will get a bonus at the end of the year for paying a certain amount of employees under a certain amount of wage...

Belk employees are treated badly

I have worked for belk in florence, south carolina for two years and they just terminated me because of lateness. I really think it was unfair because of the fact that I a sick grandmother and I had to tend to her before I go to work because she was in and out of the hospital. The reason why it was unfair because I would call a manager to tell them that iwould be running a little late because of my grandmothers medical condition. I am going to honest yes they have warn me a couple of times but I was thinking if I call and told a manager it would been okay by them but unfortnately it wasn't. Also the human resource manager was very unprofessional about the situation he just told me how many days I missed and told me to just go ahead and sign the paper. He didn't inform me at all that I was being terminated which wasn't right at all. Also belk had a policy when if you don't get an amount of credit applications each week that they would also enforce of getting rid of associates who couldn't succeed in getting applications. I also thought this was outrageous because of the economy and the bail - out many people at this point do not want to be in credit card debt! I am just writing this complaint because I enjoyed working at belk but it had too many strict rules that just didn't make sense. I was a diligent, dependable worker and I was ways willing to sacrifice to help the company when they had no one in the shoe department. They would call me on my days off to come in and I always made a way to get their and still when my grandmother was sick I still went in because I didn't want to leave any of my associates out. I always should up late or not late I was there and I was one of their good workers. I just hope this situation doesn't happen to someone else. To whom ever reading my story thanks for taking your time out to read this. I am going to call the belk excel line also about this matter!

Stopped in to shop because of your big and tall selection. Understanding it is Tuesday night @ 7:00 I didn't expect much assistance and there wasn't any. After about 30 minutes I made three selections and headed to check out. No one @ any check out desk, no way to alert service, not an employee in sight and approximately 40-50 shoppers in the store. Most of which were in the men's section. After about 15-20 minutes waiting to check out I left your clothes on the check out desk. Maybe the morning crew will restock them or not. Pitiful!

Not taking into consideration there is no loss prevention in the store and we are talking about a person who had worked in this position fo more than 20 years. Belk collects money on behalf of charities and has made it a huge selling tool however Belk DOES NOT follow the guidelines for doing so and has no store tracking of the money collected. This HR Person is one of how many doing this? Who knows? Belk is now trying to back track and cover their butts and write people up who know the truth about their fake, false, and faulty collecting on behalf of charities. I will be alerting the proper authorities about this and will send the 19 page manual to the COO about Charities Fraud.

Management is not the best in the world. We never have enough staff. We are expected to do alot of things that used to be performed by 2 associates. When associates leave from a department, they are not replaced and the full time people are expected to do their job and the jobs of the others that left. We are told there are no hours available when that can't be true since everyone that has left is not replaced. Is it just me that sees it like that? We have alot of employees in our store that do not work They do not recover or anything else except stand behind the register and that is tolerated. We have associates that are doing tihings that are questionable as far as leaving the floor for extended times, getting applying for credits from people with no identification. Something is just not right in our Alabama store. No one covers a schedule when someone calls out or just quits. Does this sound right?

I worked at a belk in walterboro, sc as a seasonal employee. I was not trained well at all, I was pretty much thrown out there to tend to the customers. Don't get me wrong, everyone was really nice but can you image me leaving the customer in the middle of a transaction to ask another associate for assistance? The store is very understaffed also. There are times when there is no one working at any of the makeup counters and belk expects anyone working there to just help them out, that's the craziest thing I've ever witnessed. Anyways today was my last day there as an employee because they are not willing to work with my college school schedule. The store manager requested that I stay until they're finished their inventory, but what's the point of me assisting this greedy company when they won't work with some so important as college. This establishment could care less about their associates, their only concern is their pockets! Don't work here or in my opinion, don't shop here either with their expensive prices!

I work at a belk in north Mississippi. I have been working here for a year. I have NEVER even heard of excel line. I'm glad to know that less hours scheduled my gm gets a bonus. I have been late several times with only one warning I'm a very hard worker and I'm extremely "customer servicey" if that could be a word. Bein in a commissioned department my check has gone up about 300 dollars and that has a lot to do with holidays but I dont think my belk has near as many problems as all these others. They aren't as strict on credits. Generally trying have to have 2 a week. Which we get praised for as well as item ordering and customer surveys. Belk is definitely a numbers game tho. At first I thought it was only with sales coupons clearance etc but now I see that it's a numbers game cheating us from getting appropriate hours to keep our sales equal. Etc. I don't think it's fair that pace setter and consultant get scheduled first. They always get the best hours so they are goin to continue to get best sales also off every other wknd. I am full time too and I work every single wknd. Atleast every Saturday. And of I dare request off for Saturday I'll be closing like two extra nights too that week or working two Sundays in a row etc. it's like if you request off you get punishedwith the rest of the week some way. Also I the schedule is computer generated why do I only get one weeks worth of schedule every week? It should atleast all be up for holidays especially since we aren't allowed to take off from November 2- December 27th. Also I work with someone who has exceptionally made goals for almost 6 years now and is full time. Why can't she have a steady schedule? I mean belk could atleast do that after you worked there for 5 years but I see ppl on here getting fired after 13 years for nt getting enough credits so I guess I shouldn't say anything.

I totally agree I have worked for Belk Waynesville N C for two years and recently was called on the carpet for my language. Now I agree with the profanity rule but when they got me in there they wrote me up for said profanity and than turned it in to a personnel
Attack .They talked about how I didn't do my job in a timely manner and that I talked about my manager behind her back and that this was coming from all my co workers on the ROCC team.I have since spoke to several of my co workers and they have said no such thing. So that just goes to show how they use intimidation to belittle and you to cow tow. They may have wrote me up for profanity but IT was nothing compared to the language I used on them later. Hating Waynesville N.C. And will probably walk soon they suck did someone say class action. Count me in

I agree 100 % I have worked at belk waynesville n

Sad but true, I have been with the company for almost 5 years and my partner has been with them for 15...Eventho the employee handbook policy states that management may not date hourly employees, neither of us are in management, and its still a problem..but with that being said, other employees have dated before and this has not been an issue..time and time again we have been told by management to "not cause a fuss" over anything, because "you know he doesn't like that"...THAT being that we are both females, or THAT because we work overtime, work our days off, can pass drug screens (unlike half the employees, who have came to work under the influence) and are used in every department, yes every.. While the ones that are late, no call no shows, and are just plain rude, get all the praises..From my understanding, it is one of the last remaining private owned companies, I guess this is their excuse..would you rather not have people in your company that can do multiple positions within the store, or do you thrive on having drug addicted employees within the company. So nope, to the one that said that were all just disgruntled employees, come work in my store for a week, and I think you may see otherwise..Excel IS a JOKE...

Belk non service

I stood in three lines for a total of 28 minutes to check out at the local belk's. I wrote tim belk, ceo, but, of course, no response. I won't be shopping there again. Unacceptably poor service and customer response.

3 lines. 28 minutes. So, about 9 minutes a line? You got to tell the whole story. How many people were in front of you? Was there some lady in the front of the line that spent eight of those minutes looking through her black-hole of a purse for her credit card... or worse: the check book.
(on a side note. why does no one ever know who to make the check out to?)
Also what day and time was it? Monday morning: should just take a couple of minutes. Saterday afternoon: there might be a bit of a wait.

Also, writing to Tim Belk is kind of silly over something so trivial. I know it is important to you, and I would be angry too--but do you really think Tim Belk has time to read every little complaint? I mean, I know CEOs SHOULD care about stuff like that, but they have way more on their plate to worry about. Next time write or call someone a little lower on the hierarchy and maybe something will get done.

You should have stayed in one line the whole time. If you go changing lines, you are automatically pushed to the back of the line. I am an associate at Belk. Unfortunately, they don't give us enough help. Often times, I am the only person expected to cover 2 separate departments, with no one to cover my lunch break.
