After reading info on this website, my3cents.com, /link removed/ and the recent lawsuit settled in California I was concerned about Citi.

I am retired and unemployed. I attempted to negotiate a payoff offer with Citi a few months ago. It didn't happen because I asked to speak with a manager and he was so rude and condescending I gave up.

I tried again recently. I talked with a Ms Nolan (she was the third person I talked to; I asked to speak to someone who can make a decision.) We agreed upon a payoff amount and she gave me a due date. I asked her to fax me a confirmation (having read that Citi had received a final payoff, then demanded more money). I waited over an hour; no fax. I called back and got a person who identified herself as the "answering service". I left a msg with her for Ms Nolan that the fax is ready. Feeling uneasy, I typed my own confirmation and faxed it. I think it is strange that the fax number on my fax receipt is 2677772 and not the fax number I dialed as shown on their website.

Over an hour later I called again. Spoke to a Ms Strickland and went through the entire scenario again. She told me Ms Nolan didn't complete the "settlement macro". (This is not my problem.) She said their department doesn't send confirmations until after the payoff is made. (they need to tell Ms. Nolan) Then she asked me what do I plan to do if this is not accepted? I told her it is already accepted and I have a due date. Then she said, "oh, the manager had accepted it, he was just waiting for the "macro" to be completed." I was asked to call back in two days.

I called back in two days and Ms Strickland told me they are not accepting any more settlements and I would have to pay the full amount or do an amendment (to stretch out payments). I told her this is not right because I have an agreement and I do not intend to prolong my relationship with Citi. The call ended with me telling her this is why Citi is in so much trouble. . . you pay when you don't treat people right.

I am not protesting the mounds of interest I have paid; that was my mistake. I am protesting the way companies such as this play with people's lives and jerk them around. I don't know if it is incompetence or dishonesty, but whatever it is, it is out of control.

I filed a complaint with the FTC because Citi and its representatives cannot be trusted.

I have concluded that there is a conspiracy to ensure that middle and low income Americans never OWN ANYTHING! One of the problems is that no one cares about the fate of Americans because these companies are not run by Americans. I guess they haven't heard the trite expression, "When America gets a cold, everybody sneezes." I hope if anyone is considering Citixxxx, they will read some of this info before proceeding:

i will never do bussiness again with this company. do you know that they charged me 15.00 a day for late fees of my car payment so if i was 1 week late because i have to wait for my unemployment it is 105.00 more for that week plus the car payment. 15.00 dollars a day is alot and how can they get away with this. how come they don't help people the way they were bailed out . citi financial are just a bunch of cooks.

Feel that they are taking advantage of many people, myself included that are overwhelmed financially. Will NEVER do business with them again. For all Citi customers, join a Credit Union bank.

I got my amendment by stating that I had all the phone conversations with them recorded stating that I was approved.
I told them if they do not play fair since I have done my part by sending my paperwork in and actually said being approved,
my lawyer will be contacting them next.

This worked for me as I was dealing with someone in upper management, not some floor manager or a customer service person playing manager.

They Faxed my paperwork the next day and my loan was lowered from 700.00 to 410.00 a month.

I just called them up to get an explanation as to why they did not tell me I should do the loan adjustment instead of the amendment and why they told me I could get the loan adjustment after the amendment if I still needed it. Here is the basics they told me:
First I have to make regular payments for 12 months before I could qualify for the loan adjustment. The loan adjustment is the same as the amendment. I have to be 30 days late to qualify for the amendment. Now, someone please tell me - how can you qualify for an amendment when your 30 days late when they tell you that you have to be current to qualify? They didn't have an answer for that either. Besides, my paper work says amendment so how can it be the same? This is just insane and I'm furious with their misleading business practice! Who's starting a lawsuit against them?

One more comment for now, (I'm on a roll)...I also went through the same thing with faxing in the paperwork, them saying they did not get it, etc etc etc. It went on for almost 3 months before I was able to finally get the amendment. Amazing how everyone else I would fax to would have no problem and Citi was the only ones not getting it. They also told me when I originally got my loan with them, that they 15% was temporary and I WOULD get a lower interest rate of 9%. Never happened.

BTW...when I say 15%, I mean I'm talking about my interest rate. Thanks to Citifinacial I am not able to get a refinance with anyone else now because the value of the car.

Hey Citifinancial, who was it that bailed your butts out last year?! And who owns you? We the people? Knucklehead company!

I posted this also in the "Citifinicial Breaks The Law With Repo" thread and thought I'd post here too in case it is missed.

They suggested I get the amendment first and if I still needed a reduction in my payments to call them back and get the payment adjustment where they add years on to the payment making it more affordable. Now they tell me that I have to make 6 months of regular payments before they do the loan adjustment. And I didn't talk to just one rep about applying for the amendment versus the payment adjustment, I spoke with more than a handful there at Citifinancial and they all said the same thing to me about doing the amendment first. I've been paying 15% for over 2 years on my car, have only made 3 payments thus far for the new amendment payment and it's like no one their recalls what they said to me about doing the loan adjustment. No wonder why Citi is going down the toilet. Most of us here could keep our cars if they worked with us giving us a more affordable interest rate, but seems they have other agendas? Maybe the repo business is a better business for Citifinancial? Simply amazes me how they can do this to people. Just plain lies and its not just one there, its like they are ALL trained to do the same and say the same.
Also: I wanted to add, that before anyone ask for an amendment; unless you are secure with your income increasing or your situation getting better after 6 months of reduced payments, its a really a good idea to consider the loan adjustment instead of the amendment.
Yes, your car will cost more in the long run, but won't it anyways? My car cost $25, 000 2 years ago, I owe a little over $23, 000 on it now (yeah, I need a mathematician to figure out why I still owe so much) and KBB says its now worth less than $12, 000.
They have ways of helping people, they just DO NOT go out of their way at all of letting people know.

...continued from my previous post.

Citifinancial is not a very nice company and they have done nothing but attempt to cause me grief, and for what, i was only 1 month behind and trying to get caught up to date. I lost work for a short time and got 1 month behind last year. I have not been able to get caught up, but maintained ONLY 1 month behind. It wasnt like i was trying to evade them or get out of paying for the car. Due to other reasons, i had to file for Bankruptcy and thank god i did, or i might have to pay a lot more han i bargined for when i signed those loan papers.

Thanks (sorta) to CitiFinancial i am now reducing the amount that i owe them by a bankruptcy program called a cram-down and i now only will have to pay around half the balance. I found this out because of that outragous repossession they did to me and now im on the warpath!

So because they took my car, attempted to sell it and charge me even more money, i am reducing the amount of the owed balance and im going to sue them for the hardship they caused by violating the bankruptcy Order.

I would encourage others to seek info on filing Bankruptcy too, if it is in your best interests to keep your car and prevent them from reposessing it and selling it, then still bill you for the balance of what it didnt sell for against your owed balance.

I too had a similar experience with Citifinancial, but i had already filed Bankruptcy and the attempted to repossess the car before the paperwork went into effect. I managed to get the Judge to sign the order on short notice and Citifin was 'supposed' to voluntarily turn over the car by releasing it from the repo company.

Instead, they moved the car to an auction 3 days after the order had been signed (violating an Automatic Stay) and sent me a notice they were going to sell the car. Well of course i was furious and contacted my lawyer immeditatly.

My lawyer got them to release the car from the auction, but told him i would need the license plates, proof of insurance and my drivers license to have the car brought out of the auction's storage area. When i asked where the tags were (they were on the car when it was repo'ed), they said all my stuff was remved from the vehicle, including the tags and i would have to contact the repo company to get them. I did and they told me i had to pay a fee to get my stuff back or have the Bank release it. So i had my lawyer call to arrange my stuff released from the repo company. CitiFin told him they would, but never did. I called CitiFin and i was told they never authorized the repo Co to remove anything and i was responsible for the costs of them having to reo the car and any other charges involved with the reposession.

Well i decided to accept the loss of my stuff (cleaned out most stuff a few days before it was taken) and went to DMV to report the tags stolen and get new ones. I wasnt about to let them hold my car over a stupid $50 fee i had no intension of paying to get back what shouldnt have been removed in the first place. I drove 2hrs and got my car without any problems, they only wanted a copy of my driver's license for the record of who picked up the car, not even caring if i had the tags or insurance ( as CitiFinancial Rep said i needed) and put on my new tags and drove it home.

After getting home and looking over the car, i found almost everything was still in the car, only a stuffed animal and the tags missing. What! these people were just scamming me for a few more dollars!?! Im so glad i got the Bankruptcy Order and i dont have to worry about any fees that CitiFiniancal thinks they are going to 'add' to my account. Im ignoring that the car was even repo'ed on a financial level, but not on the fact they violated a judges Order, for that they are going to be sued! And the repo guys even left a reciept of the order for the towing to the auction place in the car, dated 3 days after that Bankruptcy Order had been signed.

I hope my story gives a small amount of pleasure to those of you who are Victims of Citifiancal's auto-loanshark tactics.

I TOTALLY AGREE! Citifinancial needs to be stopped. It is appalling to hear the thousands of complaints about unethical, abusive and illegal things this company is getting away with. They repossessed my car (I was 3 months behind) and now want me to pay close to $2017 to get it back. $700 of that is for "repossession fees"! My nightmare is too long to go into but I believe we have a class-action lawsuit against this company.

I totally agree! My boyfriend is a month and a half behind and was 3 months and they call and harrass him every week. We paid 700.00 on it on a Monday and then they called not even two days later wondering why we didnt put the whole 1600.00 down, he cant pull the money out of his butt! This is coming from someone that pays HER car payments on time every month and has NEVER mean behind on a car payment ever, since I am authorized on his account to talk to them, to help him out which was a mistake. They told him that he couldnt afford the car and that he better borrow the money from his mom or better borrow its from someone, they treat you like ### when in all reality their the ###. I understand that he is behind but at the same time we can only do so much. They are the worst company i have ever dealt with. I have a Citi credit card and I have had to call them one time and they were nice but like i said iam not behind on my card payments or ever late. Their AWFUL...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one but sorry to hear it at the same time! I hate that anyone has to go through this. My husbands income dropped 48%/year! I've been fighting with them since AUGUST (right when we found out about the salary change). Today (NOVEMBER!), after talking to at least 20 different people and getting 20 different answers, I'm told it's denied because we CAN afford a $500/month payment. I even sent them a breakdown of our monthly bills showing that we're $100 in the hole each month! Like I'm not stressed out enough over losing all this income, PLUS I have to file bankruptcy just to be able to survive and feed my kids! This isn't considered a hardship?! WTF is?! I'm waiting on a call back from them to argue my case, not that it's probably going to help. NO ONE has ever called me from there. I've had to call everytime. I've had to fax papers 4 times because they always claim they didn't get them. Grrrr! I'm about ready to tell them to just come get their f*cking car, no matter how much I love it and want to keep it.

I have had my car loan for almost three years now at 18%..when I asked if I could get a lower interest rate I was instructed that "we don't do that here" not talking about the department but at the company. I have never been late, and often paid more than the regular payment. I was called in the morning about eight months ago by a man I could barley understand due to a very thick accent. He told me that my regular payment I had agreed to, put my name on at the dealership and all the legal stuff was signed, but rather it was just a "suggested MINIMUM they would accept". The man told me to make higher payments, but in a helping way he tried to pass off but failed at. He said more money would be going toward the principal, so I asked him bluntly is it that you just want me to pay off this car quickly because you dont want my business but rather just the money that I owe you? I also asked him, why he was harrassing me because I have NEVER been late, and I had made payments higher than the "suggested minimum" not to mention if I didnt pay the car off sooner THEY would be making more money due to the insanely high interest I was paying. Yet he still argued with me about it. What a loon..I wonder if they train these people to argue about this stuff, even if you are A+ customer. I mean the people who have posed before me I would be even more upset, and if someone was in my house that I didnt authorize, well lets just say here in Texas its shoot first and ask questions later. Thats exactly what I would do, police or not..however police are supposed to announce them selves and if they are in your house with out just cause they need a warrant no questions asked. If the repo guy was a law enforcement officer he should know this, and posing as an officer no matter in what state is illegal if he/she is not. The company they work for not to mention Citi, hell even the duplex the lady lived in could be sued for millions for invasion of privacy and impersonating a peace officer. Just some food for thought.

I had a knee replacement in January of 2017 and was out of work for some time. In March, I spoke with someone at Citifinancial about ammending my loan for lower payments since I was getting behind on all my finances due to being out of work. A very nice woman, who's name I didn't get, told me I could defer my March and April payments until the end of the loan and to call back in May to ammend the loan for lower payments. I called in May and spoke with another rep, who's name I didn't get, and she said to fax in my pay stubs, there will be NO problem getting an ammendment in light of my finances and to call back at the end of May.

I faxed the stubs and called at the end of May. I was told that a NEW policy JUST came into effect that they need SIX QUALIFYING payments to allow an ammendment now. I explained that I had been speaking with them since March and was assured I would get an ammendment. That did not matter, the policy sticks and too bad, basically, is what they told me.

I spoke to someone in June and let him know that I have been screwed by this bank, I was given wrong information and I am not going to be punished for it. I needed to speak with someone in upper management and was not going to do a thing until this happened. I was transferred to a manager who never called me back. A week later I took a call, with the same result-I was transferred to a manager who never called back. In the meantime I received countless calls on a daily basis. In July, someone transferred me to a Laura Boah and I left her at least 4 messages, but she finally called me back. She was supposedly in upper management. We talked for about an hour and she asked if I could make THREE qualifying payments instead of SIX and then she could help me get a permanent ammendment to lower my payments.

I made the three payments and started calling Citifinancial again. A rep told me the ammendment was declined AGAIN because I didn't make SIX payments! I am losing my mind now, and I have left at least EIGHT messages for this Laura who never called back, and also for Mr Howerton who is supposedly my account manager and never called back. I spoke with two people last night, a James and a Mr Cummings, another manager, who told me tough, get a second job, get state aid, do anything you can to make these payments.

In this tough economy, instead of working with someone to where they can make affordable payments, they would rather take a loss on a $20, 000 loan. I have no idea where to turn. I am a single mother with a disabled child and struggle every day to make ends meet. The knee replacement threw me behind on everything. The man last night was extremely condescending and never addressed my personal issues, it was all about THEIR MONEY...someone help me, PLEASE?

Same thing here, my 6 month temporary amendment was approved on September 8th of 2017. I made my payment in full on August 2017. I have called and called, submitted my information and get nothing but flack from them. They say yes we will fax your amendment paperwork but it can take up to 3 days. I have been calling them since September 12th and get the same old crap. I called today, October 3rd to have someone tell me it has been denied since I have not made last months payment. This almost seems illegal since they offer the such perks for hardships, yet you get approved wait for your paperwork that never gets faxed and then denied three weeks later?

I would like to fight this somehow but was told by a friend in the Auto business it is not worth getting a lawyer and that banks are just doing WTF they want to.

Citifinancial Auto are nothing but cons! If you check /link removed/ you should see all the complaints they have there.. I think everyone needs to get together and get some kind of class action lawsuit against them. They have conned and ripped off so many innocent people, it's sickening! And how they get away with it, is beyond me .. I had set up payment were they took the money directly out of my account every month, this last time I got a call saying that my checking account had insufficient funds, well this was due to the fact they took out two payments, which was clearly on my bank statement, so "Ms. G said for me to fact my statement over and they would reverse the charges.. well I did so and nothing was done, the embarrassment of having bounced checks due to their neglect has me livid!

Report them to department of consumer services in your state then file complaint under the fair debt collection act, collectors know what that is and are suppose to follow it, if not a lawsuit could stop the threats. I use to be a collector and know the ropes fairly well and rudeness gets you nowhere. Go get them

My suggestion is to definitely pay them using a money order. I gave them my account information yesterday after being told they do not store payment information. The next day they called back again and while on the phone with the agent I checked my account... - $370.99 !
The account was drawn upon using information gained from the phone call I had with their customer service representative... This company has been a NIGHTMARE to deal with! You are better off to go to a "Buy Here/Pay Here" place to get a car. At least there you can see the person you are giving your money to... No risk of them raping your bank account and credit.

Exact same thing here. I'm trying to get the loan amended due to a drop in income and was told I didn't make enough money. My response was the same. if I made more money, I wouldn't have this problem. During the process of submitting the amendment (income, expenses, etc.) the first time, they asked for two references. They also said I had to be current on the loan to file the amendment so I made another payment of $667. Well they didn't get back to me after 10 days so I called them and finally got through to someone. The girl was very helpful but said I was denied due to lack of income. She said that the drop in my car payment would be over 60% of my net income after expenses. She then asked if anything had changed. I told her I changed cell phone plans that lowed my cell bill by $120 a month (Sprint, you should check it out). She then resubmitted the amendment request and said I should keep an eye out for a fax. No fax ever came. Now we've fallen behind again and they are using the references and calling them to collect! I called back in to check on the status and got another guy that said he didn't know what the status was and was resubmitting the amendment again. He said he doesn't "go into the details" of the formula because it's different for every person because their expenses are different. i didn't tell him that I thought that was BS, that's what the formula's for. So now I'm going to checkup again today to listen to why they've denied me again. I too don't believe they're interested in amending anything. They are simply a collection department that has gotten very advanced at doing just that. If anyone has any success, please email at xxjasonsnewemail@gmail.comxx (remove the x's)

This is basically the same thing that has happened to me!
My income was dropped in half due to the economy. So, I called Citifinacial Auto about the amendment. I faxed the paperwork twice (because they said they didn't get it the first time), called back the days they told me, did the over the phone evaluation and was told I was approved but had to wait for the final process, so I waited again and called back when they said to find out my new payment. Now I've been told that I have a late fee and my amendment was denied because I was late on my payment! I started the process 2 weeks before my payment date and was told it would be done 2 days before my payment was due. So frustrating! Now I have to pay my regular car payment, plus a late fee and start all over again on the amendment. :( What was the purpose of the whole waiting game? To get an extra late fee payment?

I'm ready to start a petition and contact the BBB if they do not stop this!
I've read to many similar stories across the WWW.
They tell you they didn't get the fax, tell you to wait, you end up having you get late charges, etc etc same story.

The exact same thing happened to me and I have been trying for over a month to get the overdraft fees refunded. I have faxed bank statements 5 times, called evry day for more than a month, on the phone at least 20 - 30 minutes each time. They keep telling me they never got my faxes, please resend. I have been screamed at, hung up on, transferred over and over to the wrong departments and treated very poorly. I think they believe if they continue with these tactics I will eventually giveup. I emailed the executive response unit 2 times for dispute resolution and have never received a response back from them. The faxes are sent to Texas yet all of my calls are routed to India where they tell me another department handles faxes and they cannot help me.

I am astounded that a bank this big can get away with this! I cannot find any other contact info anywhere for this company.
