This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

My experience with Chase Bank was incredibly frustrating and ultimately damaged my credit, even though I followed the instructions their own representatives gave me.

I opened an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa specifically because it advertised a 0% APR promotional financing offer on a $4,473.92 Amazon furniture purchase. Without that promotion, I would never have opened the account.

Almost immediately after opening the account, my credit card was mailed to the wrong address and fraudulent charges appeared on the account. Chase contacted me about the fraud, canceled the card, and refunded the unauthorized charges. While the fraud investigation and my billing dispute were ongoing, I remained in regular contact with Chase.

During those conversations, multiple Chase representatives told me that I would not be required to make the minimum payments on the disputed balance until the fraud investigation and dispute process were complete. I relied on those instructions and did exactly what Chase told me to do.

At the same time, I was also trying to resolve another issue involving the promotional financing that had been advertised when I opened the card. Chase and Amazon repeatedly directed me back and forth, with neither company taking responsibility. Chase eventually acknowledged that they couldn't properly identify the qualifying purchase because Amazon split the order into multiple shipments while Chase tracked the transactions differently. Despite months of phone calls and providing every piece of information they requested, the issue was never properly resolved.

As soon as Chase completed the dispute process, I immediately paid the entire remaining balance in full that same day. Despite following Chase's instructions throughout the process and paying the account in full immediately after the dispute was resolved, Chase still reported my account as late to the credit bureaus.

The consequences have been significant. Before this incident, my credit score was approximately 810. After Chase reported the late payment, my credit score dropped to around 700—a decrease of more than 100 points from this single reporting event. That drop has negatively affected my creditworthiness and could impact my ability to obtain favorable interest rates and financing in the future.

This late payment did not occur because I failed to meet my financial obligations. It occurred because I followed the guidance provided by Chase's own customer service representatives during an active fraud investigation and billing dispute. I acted in good faith, relied on the information Chase gave me, and paid the entire balance immediately once I was told the dispute had been resolved.

It is unacceptable for a bank to instruct a customer to withhold payments during a fraud investigation and then report that customer as delinquent for following those instructions. The lack of communication between Chase's departments, the mishandling of both the fraud investigation and the promotional financing dispute, and the resulting damage to my credit have completely destroyed my confidence in Chase Bank.

I expected Chase to protect its customers from fraud, honor the promotional financing that led me to open the account, and stand behind the guidance provided by its representatives. Instead, I was left with damaged credit despite acting responsibly and paying my account in full as soon as Chase told me the dispute was over. I cannot recommend Chase Bank based on this experience.

Recommendation: Do not work with Chase Bank

That is a textbook case of systemic failure and you have documented it perfectly. Here is your surgical fix: gather every call reference number, the dates of those calls, and any written communication where they told you to hold payments. Then send a certified letter to Chase's Executive Office (not the regular customer service) with the subject "CFPB Complaint - Goodwill Removal Request". Explicitly request a "goodwill adjustment" to remove the late payment from your credit report, attaching your proof that you followed their instructions. Also, file a complaint with the CFPB online and attach the same documents. You have a strong paper trail, and Chase will likely correct this to avoid regulatory scrutiny.
