American Family Care corporate billing office

My son received treatment for two ear infections back Dec. I provided insurance information, however my insurance declined the bill. The reason provided was that they were secondary insurance for Medicaid, my ex-wife insurance. The Local Office stated that they ran it through medicaid and received the amount due. The Corporate billing office sent me a bill for the same amount, I again went to the local office attempting to pay the amount due. Again they insisted that the amount was paid. I called the billing department and explain that I had gone up there not once but twice and the office stated that Medicaid had payed the amount due and that I owed 0. The sales representative said she could not help, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. David comes on the phone, and immediately starts telling me that AFC does not accept Medicaid and that I will need to pay the balance. Now I can understand lack of communication in a corporation, but when I ask why they don't call the local office and work out internal what the miscommunication is and then tell me what I owe, and the response I get is we aren't going to do that, that's not our job. Makes me think its either fraud, or lack of professionalism. Either way they need to get it together.

American Family Care medical care

I went to American family care yesterday with severe trigeminal neuralgia pain. This was the worst pain of my life.

My neurologist is unavailable probably because it's Easter weekend. My attack has lasted 3 days with the most intense pain that i literally want to die. Doctor wstkins tried to give me a script for a drug that I've taken about 4 years ago and no longer effective. He did give me a pain shot that gave me some relief until 3am this morning.

I called this so called doctor and he said that I would either have to suffer the Easter weekend and wait till Monday to call my neurologist or go the ER. He would not give me anything to get me through the weekend just to take the edge off the pain. I've never experienced the cold hearted nature of a physician and he's absolutely unqualified and doesn't deserve any respect. This [censor] clearly forgot the hypocratic oath. Maybe if I were white I would've been taken seriously. Dr. Watkins will one day be on the other side of the table and I wish him a better doctor than he was to me. Allowing me to suffer is criminal and I have not been able to function for 3 days. But.who cares that I am literally in agony suffering the worst pain of my life, begging for any help. The only compassion I recieved was from the staff.

I would rather [censored] than see this cross eyed clown again. I don't care if I'm on the verge of death, I'll drive across town before I see him again.

Thanks for failing a person who came to you for help and you could only provide the option to suffer until Monday or pay $100 dollar copay to go to emergency. You deserve a special place in hell.

American Family Care billing - getting bills for co-pay that was paid in cash

I went to the AFC Urgent Care on 9/23/17. Smyrna, TN location. Visit ID [protected]. Guarantor/Acct ID # 2651769. I was informed by the front desk that their debit/credit card system was currently down. She said that we could try running our debit card through, but it might charge us twice. She said that we would have to pay our co-pay of 25.00 with a check or preferably in cash. We don't carry the checkbook with us. My husband did have 25.00 cash on him. We paid before I even saw the doctor. My husband did not get a receipt, not even sure they offered to give him one. In October I received a bill in the mail with a due date of 11/5/2017 for a balance due of 25.00. My husband called the billing inquiry number [protected] on the statement. Whoever he spoke with said they would take care of it. Then we recieved another bill in the mail with a due date of 12/04/2017 for the same balance of 25.00. I called on 11/20/17, the person I spoke with told me that they had had problems of this same nature with the Smyrna, TN location, tht she would check with the office manager at that location and get it straightened out. I asked her if she could call me back, she asked me to call her back on Monday, 11/27/2017. I called back today, Tuesday 11/28/2017. I spoke with Constance, who did not understand my situation and wanted to know who was supposed to call where and get it straightened out. I told her what the person I spoke with had said, who I unfortunately forgot to get a name for. She told me the person I needed to talk to was on another line and would have to call me back. I told her I didn't mind holding, she insisted that I leave my name and number, that otherwise she could do nothing. She was not at all helpful, rude, and I did get upset with. I did go ahead and leave my number, and I got a return call shortly from Shelia Coleman, who apparently was the woman I spoke with previously. I gave her my info again, she asked if I remembered what time I was seen, were there many people there. I told her I wasn't sure but maybe around 1:00, and that there weren't many people there, they were leaving because they didn't have the cash to pay. She again stated that they were having problems with that location. She was able to pull up where I signed in for my appointment. Told me that she would have to make some notes and speak with her supervisor, who is out of town until Thursday. She said she will call me back on Thursday. She was nicer and more helpful. I want this resolved, no more bills, and a letter stating from American Family Care on their letterhead stating that the co-pay of $25.00 was paid in full at time of service. I have excellent credit, and I have never had anything like this happen before.

Visited there in Feb 2012 for insomnia and stress. They ran all kinds of tests on me before addressing my reason for coming in. I am a daily runner and have been for years. They way they do it is subtle and sneaky after they have you in a room: An LPN comes in and tells me that they need blood first and blood pressure. Okay, I can see that. Repeat scenario...

I went en last Tuesday with a bad leg wound. Came back Friday and had to pay again for the recheck that my doctor asked me to come in for. Forgot my work note. Called back on Monday and was told I would have to come back again, pay again for the recheck so he could write it. I don't think I should have to pay twice because he asked me to come back in on a...

American Family Care labor law breech

This company is in breech of labor laws for several reasons. No breaks for meals, employees are required to work more than 40 hrs a week. They lie to get employees and fire them for no good reason. This company is based on productivity, not good healthcare. I saw unethical practice in several categories. Don't go there, go to someone who treats you like a person instead of a number.

Medical Assistant Requirements in Alabama

Is any prior education or training required?

Alabama
does not require any particular training or education prior to working as a
medical assistant beyond high school.

STATE

REGULATIONS

EXCEPTIONS

Alabama

Does not restrict medical assistants from performing any specific
medical assisting tasks. Medical assistants work under the direct
supervision of physicians and are allowed to perform those tasks which
are directed and supervised by the physician.

1) Are allowed to do basic
radiography; no CAT scans or MRI

2) Can start an IV

Now this
my friends is one of the most scary things I have ever heard of. When we take
our children in for Lab Tests or vaccinations the employee sticking the needle
and the medication in our children is paid slightly more than a fast food
worker with no formal education or training...injecting medicine in
children, starting IV's on people, and mixing medicine to administer into
our veins. The Lab Tech no formal training and will be reading our
results and relying on them to do a job that they have simply watched and
assisted others before them. The reason the "Doc In A Box" business
model is so effective relies heavily on paying their "NURSES" as they
call them on their website just above minimum wage and no Licensed Nurse is required
so you can have two or three of their "NURSES" for the price of one
legitimate RN. Unless there is a Licensed Paramedic or RN picking up some part
time hours there the only licensed person for medical care is the Doctor
himself. This is very scary and most of the general public has no idea.
Also enclosed find from AFC website where they portray their staff as Nurses.
When this information was brought to my attention I will never enter another
Doc In The Box again. No disrespect to any employees they do quite well in my opinion
with the enormous stress of having to carry out these duties on a slight bit
better than minimum wage salary and NO formal education or training in the
Medical Field. I assume this is one of
those things people will have to start being hurt or die before anything is
done…….sad sad

American Family Care is the Southeastern USA's version of a Chinese sweatshop with slightly higher pay! You work 10- 13 hour days, many days with no breaks. That's right! You are expected to work these long hours without even taking a break to eat. Once you clock in for work at 7:45 a.m. you are not allowed to leave the building until your shift is over, which could be anywhere from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Also, managers have been caught deleting employees overtime. You have to print out your clock in, clock out times every night before you leave to have proof of the hours you've worked! This is a crappy, low paying, stressful job with long hours and low pay and you're expected to do it with no lunch but with a big smile on your face! I went to American family care in alabaster on new years because my doctors office was closed. Bad idea. I went for breast pain as I'm a breastfeeding mother. The doctor had no idea about anything. Literally everytime she left the room I heard her asking everyone for advice. She told me I may have staff infection and when I explained how that was impossible she said maybe my milk was infected which I also knew wasn't the issue. I had to leave work to come here and it was a waste of time and money. I had to pump milk for the doctor who never gave me any results. In the meantime she wanted me to pump and dump- even though there were no signs of infection. Do not go here unless you have a common cold- the doctors are very uneducated and id be surprised to know they had a legit degree at all.

Don't let the name fool you. We went to the AFC in Madison AL and It has nothing to do with family care. They just want to line their pockets and make you wait for hours when my daughter was in excruciating pain. My 3 year old child came in to see a doctor about a dislocated elbow. After seeing her the doctor told my wife if my girl still feels pain in the morning bring her back. Well, poor girl didn't sleep at all that night because the doctor didn't fix the elbow in the first place. So, wife took our little girl back to the clinic the next morning and explained to them that the previous doctor told her to come back. Guess what? they said it's considered a new visit and will charge us regardless of what the other doctor said. Anyway, they made my wife and our little girl set in the waiting area for nearly 4 hours because the office manager got upset at the way my wife questioned her about the multiple charges. And when my wife asked when will the doctor be available to see our little girl, they simply replied we're sorry we forgot you've been waiting this whole time! What a joke this place is! Rude and unprofessional and only care about the charges, not their patients.
