Vons review: Customer service

Greetings, I have been a shopper at Vons for over 35 years. It use to be my main grocery store. The past few years I have been avoiding Vons because so many of your young workers are rude, uncooperative, and more focused on chatting and yucking it up with other employees. I’m referring mostly to cashiers and baggers. This is a buildup of a 5 year span so please bear with me. This evening I made a quick trip to Vons in Clairemont (San Diego 92117) at 7:30 pm. I had only a few items so I chose self check. When I scanned the mandarine oranges advertised at $2.97 they registered $5.99 less $1.00. I activated the help button only to find myself standing watching the young man designated at the self check laughing and yucking it up with two other employees. I patiently waited, but after a few minutes I politely asked for help. He told me I had to purchase two bags of mandarines to get that price. I informed him that’s not what is advertised, and he replied that’s how it is. I declined the item, and on my way out I grabbed the printed flyer and brought it to his attention that it does not indicate need to purchase two. He looked it up and down; I figured he has a hard time accepting his errors as he pulled out his phone and scanned Vons website as if it would support his statement. Finally he told me that I need a Just for U app. To get this price. I said I have one, and proceeded to leave as he followed me saying, well did you mark it on your Just For U? I said yes as I continued to leave. Then he says, we’ll I can fix it for you if you want. I said, No thank you, as the situation was very demeaning to me and not worth my time nor the $2 savings at that point. I have never had issues with management or the more seasoned employees — and from past experience I am confident there would be no issue from them and they would have fixed it for me right away. I have stood in line with Vons checkers literally waiting for them to be done with their conversations with other employees before starting to check me out. I have had them tell me I am not using my Vons card correctly only for them to realize the issue was not on me, but on them. Now that I’m older I feel some think I’m an old, dumb lady. It seems every time I go there now it’s something, and I find myself saying to my husband, “I hate Vons!” He urged me to write this complaint. I am sorry I have to send this, but I think my husband is correct — it’s overdue. Thank you for your time.
