I became a UOP student in March of 2017 I couldn't complete my paperwork there uless I signed up for a student loan. I was a single parent at the time with 3 teenages at home one being my nephew. I was making $25, 000 a year and on food stamps. I did FASFA the beginning of that year and qualified. I ended up with a $3500 loan through Sally Mae because of UOP not to mention only 1 of their credits transferred to another college. I am so upset with all this crap that I have been through with UOP it just makes me sick. I can only imagine how many others this has happened too!

UOP hater!

I really have only one complaint with UoP and I have done my BSM and MBA through their online program. (Run-on sentance much?)
This is a simple request (insert comma here) yet some students can barely form a whole sentence.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Hello, Felice:

I am very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. The University has an office dedicated to hearing student disputes, such as yours, and doing their best to find a resolution. If you would like to file a formal grievance, please contact the Office of Dispute Management at UofPhoenix@phoenix.edu or [protected].

Hello there,

Thank you for sharing your insights. Please understand that part of the mission of the University is to provide access to higher education to everyone. Additionally, in order to be admitted to a graduate program, a student must have completed an undergraduate degree from an approved regionally-accredited or nationally-accredited institution and graduated with at least a 2.5 GPA. Also keep in mind that due to the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act, instructors cannot share any grading information about another student with you. Other students may be getting coaching from the faculty member that you do not know about. Should you have a problem with any learning team member, I encourage you to bring it up to the instructor and your Academic Counselor. If you have any questions about the University's mission, goal, or admissions requirements, please visit www.phoenix.edu.

I spoke with a UoP relations specialist and she assured me that they are continually looking for improvements in their educational methods. So that was good to hear, that they are changing their ways. Or at least we can hope..

I was also tricked into thinking University of Phoenix is a great school and enrolled. I was very disappointed with their online degree program after jut 1 short week so I withdrew from the school.

I was in shock when University of Phoenix "decided" that I owe them $750 for withdrawing after just 1 week. And the thing is, they don't tell you any of it and they keep insinuating each and every student to just try it.

The top people who are running Univ. Phoenix absolutely do not care about the student's well-being. They JUST WANT YOUR MONEY ANY WAY POSSIBLE.

I am very disappointed that this has happened to you as well as myself. I was a student at Axia and I was attacked by a student who told me I needed to open up an African American history book not to mention I am from a mixed ethnic background and i found that to be very racist and prejudice. my feelings were hurt and I too went to my academic advisor and he told me that there was nothing that he could do. there are truly no numbers that you could go to. I feel bad because you are in my grandmom age range and you should not be treated unfairly.

UOP has been notorious for this! I applied for my grants in January of this year UOP has received my monies in June 30, 2017 and still to this day have not received my disbursements. They are eager to assist the new students but when it comes to returning they blow you off. I am not even sure I am doing the right thing here? I am almost finished with my BSIT and now I am hearing that many companies will not even look at my resume because of where I obtained it! I have just received a notice that my financial aid will not be reviewed or dispursed until October...meanwhile I have receive two bills for payment on my loans that I still have not received! But UOP has! There are a growing number of concerns here and one of them is why did I go into debt only to find it was a useless degree! Wow I am pissed.

I am in the same boat, I called the education Approval Board. I am in Wisconsin. Pat Sweeney there has been handleing it with me however there are times I think they pay him off too. He is always really supportive that he talks to his "contact" from UOP and he gets all cr---py with me. I think the gov. is on this too. This whole world is full of scammers and losers. We just happen to be the losers until we get educated on how to scam like they are.

Good Luck,

Pell Grant Problems at UOP,
Who ever may be interested. I have graduated from UOP. I am please about that. I am still waiting for my Pell Grant disbursement. The problems I have incurred with the financial office is simply outragious. I must have submitted my paper wotk a dozen times. Lost by UOP many times, either a new advisor has been appointed, one leaves, again missing information. what ever the reason i have placed hundreds of calls, emails thatbounce back as unread. faxes sent with the same information over and over. I think they are hoping I'll give up. Now my info had to go to professional review. What the heck. One office is pointing fingers at the other. Is there an official office to file a claim againt UOP for mismanaging Pell Grants. Of course I they got all the tution out of me. Some one out there must know where to go to get help. Please!

I am in the middle of trying to collect the 'refund' or credit balance due to me. UOP Campus level FA department lied to Sallie Mae delaying my funds, they instructed the loan company not to release my money due to 'non-attendance' when I was enrolled and attending my class everyday online. I had to get Sallie Mae and UOP on the phone at the same time with a conference call and document the lies I was being told in email, and phone calls to even get the ball rolling to have my funds disbursed from Sallie Mae. Now because of an illegal business practice I am still waiting on my funds and have bills I can not pay timely. I am a single parent borrowing money to attend an overpriced school that appears only some of the classes transfer that I have spent thousands of dollars on already. UOP knows I want to transfer schools due to cost and they are doing everything in their power to delay the process by messing with my funds. I will be filing a complaint with FAFSA, Sallie Mae and Direct Lending that the colleges are now using for student loans.

Not to mention the fact that 2 of the 4 classes I have taken are totally useless and the syllabus is cookie cutter molded so that EVERY class for ANY subject is exactly the same, the instructor is not even teaching. The STUDENTS teach themselves the class you pay $1000.00 or more for is a complete WASTE of money and time.

I have attempted to contact management level and the Dean even to no avail. Appears no one cares what is going on to a student needing their money.

I feel I am only one in the long list of people who have been screwed over by UOP. My advice keep searching for a less expensive community college who will allow you to obtain an Associates Degree online, one of those degrees no matter where it is obtained I have learned is as good as any other obtained from an over priced online University. A couple of online community colleges I can recommend having recently learned about them is Dallas Community College and Lone Star College System, they are both Texas based schools. Now that I know about them I will be transferring as soon as possible to one of them.

University of Phoenix is an excellent school to obtain an AA, AS, BA, BS, Masters or Doctorate. I earned a BS from there in 2017 and am now enrolled in a Masters/Doctorate program.

Yes, University of Phoenix believes in team learning at the undergraduate level. But please, don't look at this as a negative. In the real world it is important to understand the importance of being able to work with a diverse population. Some of us do not ever have the opportunity based on our current job situation. Working in teams allows you to build leadership skills, one of the foundations for professional growth at University of Phoenix. Unfortunately, working by yourself in school does not give you that same experience.

If you are ever unsure about any program you sign up for... do not hesitate to do more research. Your unhappiness is the result of lack of research or worse... lack of motivation on your part.

I attended UOP for 5.5 years, first finishing an Associate's Degree that wasn't quite completed 13 years prior, then receiving a Bachelor's Degree and finally, taking all the classes necessary for a Master's Degree. I'm in debt $55k and have not been able to utilize my education. While I do not feel it is a sub-par education (because I did learn from the cirriculum), I did not like the "Learning Team" environment.

With that said, my last class was "auto-dropped" for "nonattendance" on the LAST DAY of class. Upon discovering the mistake, I contacted UOP immedicately and was told there was nothing they could do... that technical difficulties were not their responsibility! I had a 99.59% going into that last week of class... now tell me WHO would be okay with the SAC's denial of my dispute? They want me to take the class again!

So, 5.5 years with no breaks (3.95 GPA), sometimes stacking classes, $55, 000 debt, no prospects, and NO MSA degree because of a "technicality"?!? SOMETHING'S AMISS!

My main complaint is that I cannot find a person to help resolve it. It is my belief that they are just passing me around until I give up!

I am also having a problem with UOP and their billing. As I read some of your respones, I know that it is UOP employee posting them. Saying that the person is at fault and not UOP. Guess what THEY DO LIE TO YOU AND THEY DO CHANGE THE PRICE ONE YOU. ALSO THEY DO HAVE INSTRUCTORS THAT DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO WORK THE INTERNET, AND THE SCHOOL IS PAPERLESS. My last class I physically had to up to the intructor and show him my work and how to use the internet to open the assignment. But that wasn't just me it was the whole class. One more thing, they told me because I was in the reserves I get a discount. well I did for the first class then it went up to regular price. Every time I talk to them about it. They keep trying to find out more about my personal life and how much MONEY I AM GETTING AND FROM WHERE: WORK, GI BILL, GRANTS, LOANS. Yes they want more money. but still I have to keep fighting with them to get my discount which has been 3 months now and still no discount for being military.

I am enrolled in UoP/Axia college, and had some of the same concerns that I have read here. I can say that I have had no problems, as of yet. I have 2 email address' and 2 phone numbers to each of my instructors. If I have questions, they answer in a timely fashion and make sure that I am clear about the assignment, they have never just brushed me off. As for the extra money from my loans, I have had no problems receiving that either. It usually takes about 10 days, but I do receive all that is suppossed to come to me. One of my classes did require that I buy an actual text book, but all other reading materials are provided online. All in all, I'm happy with UoP. They have also been great in regards to me getting sick and having to drop classes and start them up again at a later time.

I have two more classes too get my bachelors in IT. Every class you will have individual assingments and group assignments. Most of the time, the group assignment is split up and everybody on your team, which usually consists of 5 classmates to make up a team, then the work can be spread out so each team member has a section to work on. You really do not communicate with oter members of the team that often. Most of my time was spent on the individual assignment. When they say group learning they basically mean you will have to work together to get one assingment done. Nothing major.

I agree. I've been with this school for 3 years and have had a great experience. UOP's accredited nationally and then has separate requirements from state to state (so people should check their state website for accreditation before attending any school) just because a school is nationally accredited does not mean it is in every state by their commissions. Furthermore, AIU is far worse than UOP. I know from personal experience about 5 years years. UOP has helped me alot! There is always contact information and tech support 24/7 at this school!

If I were you I would ask the state school about all of this and see what they have to say, at least you can trust them. Good luck to you both. I had the misfortune of ending up $4, 000 in debt and for nothing, none of my credits will transfer to the community college I am attending now. Never trust the for-profit schools.

I am extremely distressed about the handling of funds at uop. They are holding everyones money, promising them pell grants, taking my loans and not sending the
excess after loans have been submitted. i call, i send emails to my financial aid advisor, and she keeps promising that it is coming, my fiancial aid period ends on jan th 2017. They do not have a problem charging on your account for classes you have not even started. But, they refuse to help you with the money that is due to you for the financial aid period you are in now. I call the 1866# and they finally get my financial aid officer on the phone that says i have to call the processing center. she does not know anything after 16 weeks of waiting. I call the processing center they tell me this has already been processed a long time ago that they are already processing me for 2017. Where is my pell? Where is my refund from my loans? no one knows, runs me in circles, treatsme like junk because i want to k now. Does anyone out here know what to do? no one is available to talk or to find out. do i really have to join a lawsuit to find out? why is this happening? help me please zimmerlifamily@yahoo.com

Lookie Lou,
Please reconsider your choice of educating facility. This is not just a few bad apples. This is a greedy and corrupt institution that cares about nothing except profiting, mainly illegaly and unethically. If you have read the amount of complaints, then you must realize that there are a whole lot of rotten apples in that business.
If you are bold and brave enough and really want to be sure, how about calling up your academic advisor and say that you have changed your mind about attending UoP. See what their reaction will be. I can say with 99.9% certain that they will try to retain you at any cost. However, if they behave in an appropriate and ethical manner, you will then know whether you should attend UoP .

However with University of Phoenix being nationwide could it be that there are always a few bad apples in every bushel. Please response if anymore comments.

Anyone who reads this complaint needs to know that it is full of CRAP! What kind of school would not provide books or contact information to instructors? Sounds like this lady's daughter has issues of her own and needs to get herself together! If there were no books, then how did she pass the first 3 classes? Sounds like she doesn't know how to utilze her resources properly!

Just a thought. You took classes.. did not complete them... shock it is on your credit report... and when you pay the company with a check that is written on the back (which you are not to do unless your endorsing it) was rejected you are shocked again. I am confused.

I am a UOP student. The reason counselors ask about personal issues are to ensure that you are a motivated student. It is not prying it is uncovering motivation. If I said that I wanted to save money for a new car and every time I pulled out my credit card someone would say what about that car... I may think more before the purchace.

As for posting. Attendance is ONLY 2 days a week. So, if your husband is that close to being dropped then I doubt he is doing all the assignments.

Grant money. Let's say you got a total of $5000 in PELL grant money for one academic year. The government ONLY will release half of that money at a time. So, the first $2500 is for 12 completed credits.

I have a hard time understanding how you would get the impression that UOP would KEEP your husband from attending another school.

Now, what you may have heard and misinterpertated was

IF HE DROPS FROM THE CLASSES HE WILL THEN OWE THE MONEY.

OWED MONEY WILL STOP YOU FROM ATTENDING. Not UOP.

The best thing to do. COMPLETE 24 CREDITS. That is one year and Financial Aid starts over. Next best thing complete 12 credits since that is what your first grant money was sent for. The third best thing is DROP AND USE THE GRANT MONEY TO PAY FOR THE MONEY OWED.

Hope this helps.

I also am currently enrolled in UoP Axia College, so far, I havent had a problem. I have contact numbers and direct email address' to the instructors. I have only one question... the extra money from my student loan, that is supposed to be sent to me in two separate disbursments. Has anyone had a problem receiving their money? Am I safe to assume there will be no problem receiving my money as scheduled? Or should I worry?

I am newly enrolled in UoP Axia College. I have been reading all the complaints regarding the financial aid and student loans. Almost all the complaints have something to do with people dropping out and/or not completing the courses for one readon or another. My question is regarding the extra money from the student loans that are supposed to be forwarded to me. Can anyone tell me if they had a problem receiving that money?

You academic counselor is not getting paid to help you, he/she is paid to put you off and to take your money. I just got burned by UOP and no one will get back with me. I am ready to put up a fight and I will take this as far as I can and those of you that have been taken need to sue, not complain. If you are ready for a fight get on board, if not I am going without you. Cathy

UOP provides books online in an adobe format as well as 2 emails and 2 phone numbers for each instructor and the instructors are required to keep regular office hours so they are accessible. If your daughter is having problems, it's likely because she is not following through. If her assignments are not posting, she needs to call tech support, which is available 24/7 and they can take care of it for her.

Nancy,
Your academic counselor should have had you request a leave of absence, which would have let you stay out of school for as long as you needed without being dropped from your classes. I'm sorry it didn't get handled better in your situation. I'm surprised that your loan went into default so quickly. It usually takes years before they consider you in default. If the school hadn't followed their strict guidelines, they would have lost the ability to offer financial aid to anyone, putting them out of business. UoP is a for-profit college, so they have to consider their bottom line as well. There are things you can do to correct the situation. Go to www.nslds.ed.gov and find out about your student loans. You can contact the creditor and make arrangements to get yourself out of a default status. Once you do that, you can go back to class again and the rest of your loan will be deferred. I also highly recommend that if anything happens again, you keep in touch with your academic or enrollment counselor. Usually enrollment counselors can put you in touch with the right person and work for you to make sure things get done. If you have any more questions, you can email me at mytquinn39@yahoo.com.

That really sucks, and I hope you get this matter resolved, and even more so I hope your health is good. I will however also add that this same situations could have happened to you at any school and at any time. I strongly urge every person thinking about taking out privet or federal student loans to really understand all of the rules and penalties for not following their guidelines. Loans can be a means for a better life for many people, but understand what exactly they are. Take education into your own hands, it is more work, but less headache in the long run. The 29 day rule is not a UOP thing, it is a Financial Aid thing, that every school must follow. They probably should have been able to handle it better, but I am sure there is some self-accountability things you have not fully disclosed. Like when you got sick, and stayed out for more than 29 days, did you or a family member notify the school. A lot of the timeline things you mentioned, dont really make sense. People---Schools have to follow very strict regulatory guidelines from Federal Financial Aid and Accreditation mandates. When push comes to shove they will choose to do something not in favor for a student, but that preserves their accreditation/federal funding because loosing that would effect hundreds of thousands of students. Again it sucks what happened to you, I think I know exactly why. And for lack of a better explanation, you fell in a grey area to them, they made a harsh business decision too play it safe for them. YES EDUCATION IS A BUSINESS.
